There's a reason Vinh Loi Tofu has so many great reviews. It really is that good. I'll be honest, I was skeptical at first because I'm not vegan, but this place completely changed my perspective. The meat substitutes made from soy, peas, and other plant-based ingredients are surprisingly delicious and satisfying. You don't feel like you're "missing" anything. The flavors are on point, and everything tastes thoughtfully prepared rather than just being a gimmicky vegan option. The owner is incredibly friendly and always takes the time to recommend dishes, and every suggestion has been a hit. The service alone makes you want to come back. I'm not vegan, but I genuinely enjoy the food here and appreciate the quality and consistency. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to.

Their beef egg rolls and bun thit nuong are perfect for a hot summer day! Their duck curry is also delicious and is perfect if you want a creamy, heavier meal!

Easily the best of the best. Great food, good service, and spacious and clean inside. The bun riêu is awesome! I really like it a lot! Give it a try, you'll love it too!

seems like this place gets better each time. i've been coming here for about 5 years now, it's so good. The customer service from the owner (kevin) and his wife is truly amazing, they make you feel like more than customers & give great recommendations on what to order based on what you like. the curry soup was so flavorful & filling! the chow mein with the grilled bbq duck was amazing too, the duck had a crispy crunch to it. its a casual vietnamese restaurant, perfect for families & friends.

Great find and agree with the good reviews. In small strip mall of shops. Super friendly family run operation and service with lots of local patrons the owners recognized while we dined. So many choices it can be overwhelming. ALL vegan!!! Ordered: #S9 Bun Mang Vit (Bamboo "duck") #B7 Udon stir fry (duck) #R11 Peking duck spring rolls Surprised ourselves we had all duck dishes!! The duck was so realistic to the texture, flavor and mock crispy skin - so brought back memories of what it was like. Plentiful portions and well worth the cost for a fun delicious lunch. Still busy at 2:00pm Thai tea and mango fruit drink. Chocolate and coconut cake, many desserts not available. Some may not like the paper and plastic service, but so efficient for packing leftovers. Sure it helps keep cost in line. From over 400 miles from home but hope to come back and see what they do with "shrimp"

This restaurant has a slogan: I pick you eat. Have eaten at your Cerritos location and had always wanted to try this location too. Was planning to Yelp review this restaurant and finally decided to come in today. Was told by the Cerritos owner that his brother runs this restaurant and I immediately noticed they share a resemblance. There is a video posted to Yelp of their taco which was my first choice but no longer available. So, ordered a Banh Mi sandwich. All ingredients were perfectly flavored. I came in hungry and it was just what I needed. You pay at the register after you finish eating. The owner is pleasant, restaurant is easy to find and it's ideal for a quick meal.

We came here to host our friend who has food restrictions and is GF and vegan. We came in at 11am on a Sunday right when they opened. There was a woman who helped us out and offered an elite tier of service--making recommendations and listening to every preference, even offering off menu combo items and specially prepping everything exactly to our tastes. I was very very thankful for this help since I don't spend much time in Vegan or GF spaces. The food came out promptly, and I enjoyed the rolls! The other dishes were tasty and I liked the mushrooms especially. The cutlery and plates are all disposable / paper plates and the food is served in take out containers which makes it easy to pack up and go! We sat at the table for close to 2 hours and never felt rushed or ushered out and so that was very nice since we rarely get to catch up with this treasured friend from out of town.

Got an order of the bbq "duck" udon noodles yesterday and I'm still thinking about it today! I really loved the marinade the faux duck was in and the texture of the veggie meat perfectly mimicked real meat. It was so hearty and savory. The udon noodles also had a fantastic pillowy texture. The veggies were cooked to perfection as well. And best of all, I didn't feel heavy or weighed down after eating it!

Came here after picking up my wife from work. I was craving vietnamese food and indian food, and when I found this on Yelp, all I read was duck fried rice. We get to the place and my wife mentioned it's a vegan place and I was thoroughly confused for a second because 1, I didn't read that it was vegan and 2, my stomach was committed to eating duck fried rice. The second we sit down, the waitress advised that it was a vegan restaurant, and I responded like an imbecile "but you have duck?". She chuckled and smiled a bit and said, it's "vegan duck". She did t take offense but asked if we still wanted to eat there. I said, "Why not?" It had great reviews, and I was intrigued about this vegan duck. The waitress (didn't catch her name) kindly suggested that she bring us out an appetizer and a plate to start off with that. I agreed instantly without realizing I didn't order their duck fried rice. I thought I could always order it later. The dishes come out, and to my surprise, she brought out the duck fried rice and what looked like a spam spring roll looking appetizer with a tamarind flavor dipping sauce. The spring roll was what we attacked first. It was very tasty. Lots of flavor and the dipping sauce with the hot sauce they provided were great. After obliterating the first half of my spring roll, I tried the duck fried rice. It was also very good. You get this bbq-ish flavor from the duck, which you can barely tell that it's not duck. For a vegan dish, I was surprised that I didn't really miss the actual protein. It tasted like it was real duck fried rice. The skin on the "duck" also looked like duck skin. After we stuffed our faces, I asked for dessert. The waiter (yes, male and different from the lady we started with) asked if we wanted dessert. I said yes, and he kindly asked where I'm from. I said the Philippines, and he came back out with this halol halo looking drink with coconut milk on top, some coconut jellies of different colors, and chia seeds. The restaurant is a little small and located on a small plaza off Sherman way. I highly recommend trying it out if you are vegan or would like to try a vegan dish for the first time.

Upfront this place is a five star establishment extremely clean, has a small market with the things you need to take away. You need to check out this place as it is delicious! Service was good, not great, but we are new there so it might be the norm... Let's talk about the food, look at the photos... they e nailed the look and texture of Duck, however it doesn't taste like duck, just the sauce.... However it is still something different. Food is not greasy ! The Cury soup was a tad bit watery and there could have been more cury to the dish but all in all enjoyable!

Vinh Loi Tofu Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Vinh Loi Tofu

Is any of the food safe for someone with a severe peanut allergy?

Yes, their food are vegan. You could request or tell Kevin ( the owner) you have severe peanut allergy. You won't disappoint! 😁

Do they have outdoor seating? If not, indoor dining with limited capacity and takeout? (I heard that outdoor dining will be allowed in LA from Fri, Jan 29, 2121.)

Phone not working?

In my experience, I've noticed they're closed on Tuesdays and once a year they close for about a week, otherwise they answer.

Are the tofu he uses sprouted tofu?

Yes.

I adore glass noodles with veggies and no hot spices? Any dishes available like that?

Although, I have not been there in a while, I'm sure there options with little to no spice in their dishes. Also, their menu might be on their yelp page!

Do they have vegan duck pancakes? Can't find them anywhere in LA :-(

I've never seen them on the menu, but knowing Kevin he might try to make it for you if you ask!

Do they use msg in any dishes?

No MSG is used.

Is the tofu GMO free or organic?

Kevin recently told me that they no longer make their own tofu in house. But, he did say that what the buy is organic and non-GMO.

Are there gluten free and soy free options?

Yes, absolutely! All dishes can be prepared without the tofu or mock meat.

She's been coming here since before they upgraded the space, and from what I understand it's run by brothers. The family is really nice, and it definitely has that local neighborhood spot feel. The main reason she brought me was for their **bún riêu**, but I have to be honest -- it didn't really taste like bún riêu to me. It was still good, but the broth had more of a tomato-y, clearer base and felt like its own soup rather than a true bún riêu. I was also surprised they didn't have **shrimp paste** available for it, which felt kind of odd. They do have **bánh bèo** and some other Vietnamese dishes, which I thought was cool, and overall everything we tried was okay. I've had a different soup from here before, and I've also gotten it delivered, and I'd say the experience is pretty much the same across the board -- decent, solid, nothing bad, but nothing that really stands out for me either. That said, I'd still come back because my girlfriend enjoys it, the family is sweet, and there aren't a ton of Vietnamese spots I've tried out in the Valley yet. It's one of those neighborhood places that's nice to have around, even if it's not something I'd personally go out of my way for.

The bread was perfectly toasted and had a nice, crunchy bite. The pork was still warm. The veggies were fresh and crunchy! It hit the spot. So good!! We usually order to eat with friends or pack for a trip, and they hold up well. The price for #10 was $10.25, but on the receipt it said $11.25. plus extra surcharge for credit card. All sandwiches are also $10, so go crazy and try a couple different ones, to me nothing beats the grilled pork though. It had been a while since I visited my places in Reseda and I wanted to see if they're still as good as before. Sandwich Express did not disappoint! Back in the 80's I lived in Northridge and had a Vietnamese co-worker who was a friend and fellow foodie. He introduced me to banh mi and Sandwich Express, and I'm so glad he did! Starting with their amazing banh (baguette rolls), they're baked fresh daily. They're crisp on the outside and perfectly soft in their interior. Not too dense or thick - just the right crisp and airy bread to filling ratio that you want in a banh mi! You can also buy baguettes to take home. Back in the day they were 3 for $1! Yup, apparently I'm that old... today they're a couple of bucks, but still worth it. Sorry I failed to take pics of my sandwich when it was freshly made, I was just so excited to go back in time to this little corner of Reseda that looks like it hasn't changed! The photo shown is the next day.. and that's only HaLF of the sandwich! The lady at the counter was so sweet! Don't assume rudeness for challenges with communication. I was nice and she was kind in return. There's a language barrier and at first she was shy, but once we worked through the English-Vietnamese translations with the help of Google, I was able to ask her if they sell Kho Ga La Chanh (Chicken Jerky) - and she ran excitedly to the back and produced a sealed bag of their homemade jerky! Not the same flavor profile as the stuff I buy in San Gabriel Valley, but it's a start! I'll bring them a sample the next time I get a batch to see if they can mimic the sweet spice. Theirs is a little more "five spice" forward. I placed my order for a #1 "Dac Biet" sandwich, "extra pâté, extra veggies". That's my default sammie by which I judge all Bánh Mi and I'm here to say that even a day later, right out of my fridge it's still THE best Banh Mi in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys! Bright, fresh, generously filled.. and the magic bread. I happen to know that a local chain of popular phô restaurants buys their bahn (rolls) daily from Sandwich Express to make their own sandwiches and to serve with their Bho Ko (stew)! If you're wondering for reference where my bar is set, my go-to banh mi spots in San Gabriel Valley are Bánh Mi Hue Thai and Banh Mi Hoa Phat. ~IYKYK~ What has changed at Sandwich Express? It's not just sandwiches anymore AND they have a few tables inside where you can sit down to eat! They don't have my beloved Soda Xí Muội (salted plum soda) or the lime version either. Just canned and bottled American sodas, but that's not a deal breaker. Check out the posted menu pics. Bún Bò Huě, Bò Kho.. the owner did suggest calling first to make sure these items are available on the day you want to come, but she boasts that it's very authentic! They even have broken rice dishes with grilled pork chop (Cóm Tãm Súòn)! I read in another review that the original owners sold. I don't know if this is accurate or when it happened.. but I didn't see the older people that were often in the kitchen so it's possible! Back to the changes - they have desserts now, too! They also cater! What?!? No longer cash only, they accept Visa/Mastercard. I'm so glad we stopped! They still hold the #1 spot in the area. Convince me otherwise!

We have been loyal customers for over 10 years and frequently order the beef sandwich and pâté. Yesterday, we ordered two beef sandwiches and one pâté. Since we live only 8-10 minutes away, we returned home immediately after picking up the order. When I started eating, I noticed that the pâté tasted very sour and spoiled. Unfortunately, I had already mixed part of it with my rice, so I had to throw it away. We called the store right away to report the issue, and they told us we could bring the pâté back the next day. Today, we returned to the store. We did not request a refund--we simply wanted to exchange the item and were willing to pay the difference for a beef sandwich instead. However, the staff member we spoke with was very rude and accused us of lying, claiming that we had eaten the pâté. We explained that we had to discard it since it was mixed with rice and even showed a photo that we throw it in to the trash, but she continued to question our honesty. In the past, we have had positive experiences with previous staff, and the owners have always been kind. Unfortunately, this particular employee demonstrated very poor customer service and made the situation unnecessarily unpleasant. An apology would have been appropriate. The employee declined to provide her name and appeared hesitant. She is a newer staff member, approximately in her 50s, and spoke incessantly while repeatedly blaming us for the situation. This is not about the cost--the amount is small. It is about how customers are treated. While this issue could have been escalated further, including reporting to the health department, we chose not to. What we expect instead is for the store to ensure proper food quality and provide better TRAINING for staff. Due to this experience, we will not be returning and will share our experience with others.

We were so hungry for Thai food and ordered about 3-4 items. Spoiler alert, we could not finish everything but it was all so good and delicious!!! I wanted beef jerky, a dish I always order from thai restaurants but I couldn't find it on the menu. Luckily there was such a thing when I ordered!!! The beef jerky was chewy and not super hard when I bit it. The meat was good quality, it was a bit like steak to be honest!!! The fried rice was also just regular order but it was so tasty, buttery, and yummy. I loved the honey roasted ribs because it was so tender and flavorful. The panang curry was also super super good. I don't usually enjoy curry like that because it gets too spicy but the mild level was perfect for my taste buds and so good and creamy with the chicken we ordered for it. The white rice it came with would be doused with the curry sauce/stew and it would just be an amazing combo of flavors!!!! I would definitely recommend this spot, and would be excited to come back here for more for even hangouts with friends.

The beef itself was flavored but wasn't too tasty, nothing the fish sauce helped with either. After the meal, I also enjoyed a cup of Vietnamese Iced Coffee, and this stuff was STRONG. I'm no stranger to this drink, but the coffee itself was fairly bitter and concentrated - more than normal. The condensed milk? Almost felt like a quarter can, too! Even after diluting it (through their ice) with half water, it was still too sweet and bitter - do not recommend. Paying was fairly easy, but it was through Zelle or cash - awkward!
