At first glance from the outside, it doesn't look great. Looks can be deceiving. We walked in and were welcomed. The menu is HUGE! We chose to go the safe route and both had a #2 on wheat. My son added all the veggies to his. We also ordered 2 ice creams for afterwards. The people working behind the counter were so nice and patient. We were a little scared because there were 2 people sitting down and only 5 of us in line. Once we sat down and started eating, the restaurant became FULL of people. It seems to be a local favorite. DISCLAIMER: I've never had their sandwiches. When I visited I had their garden salad and chicken poblano soup. The soup was super tasty. I just wish it came in a larger size. I found myself wanting more. On the other hand, their salad was terrible, one of the worst I've ever had. The lettuce was the shredded ice berg lettuce they use for sandwiches and all the toppings were toppings for the sandwiches. So I wanted crisp banana peppers, jalapeños but instead they were the slimy ones that go on the sandwiches. I still rated it a 4 because the soup was good and my friend got their Outdoorsman sandwhich which looked super tasty and he said was absolutely amazing! read more

I'm gluten-free and unfortunately there are not a lot of options here in Dallas for sandwiches. I ordered what seemed like a grilled cheese on GF bread and requested it be heated and toasted. It was mostly room temp w barely wilted cheese. I guess beggars can't be choosers haha, but I wasn't feeling well and was craving it so I ate it anyway. I must admit this WAS my favorite sub shop. After my 2nd bad experience I had on Saturday, October 4th at the Greenville/Park Lane shop I decided to never go back. In the past month I visited that location and my order was totally wrong. I always order 4 double meat sandwiches 2 with mayo and 2 with mustard and I spend around $50 each time. The last 2 times I've gone there I get home to find all my sandwiches have mayonnaise. I let the first time go but this time I decided to call back and address the mistake. I told the lady on the phone I was trying to give them a chance to make it right and all she said was she was sorry. I called back to speak with the manager and they wouldn't answer the phone. I then used a phone with a different number and they answered on the first ring. Still wasn't able to speak with a manager so I drove back over there for a refund and the attitudes weee still nasty. I'm happen to be big on customer service and I refuse to spend my money in places where they can't get orders right and then being nasty about it. I AM DONE!!! I will admit the manager was willing to make it right but the lady answering the phone and the distance I had to drive to go back helped me to make a decision to never go back. read more

Feeling adventurous, I ordered the Summer sub with cream cheese, avocado, Muenster cheese and mushrooms along with the usual veggies. I could've had the Outdoorsman or the Great Special, two of the best subs in Dallas! I will not seek adventure again. If you've never been to this location, the parking is tricky for dine in and takeout customers. Though the address is Greenville Avenue, you should enter the rear lot off Park Lane instead. Went through the drive-thru for a quick lunch & even after repeating my order several times, hearing the employee repeat my order - they still gave me the wrong sandwich. Realized it once I made it back to work & drove back & went inside to ask to get it fixed. Kathy added the missing things from my sandwich after telling me a few times that it's best to just order my sandwich by the number instead of being able to say "Summer Sub" & get the correct one. I normally try to stay pretty nice about these type of things, but the attitudes from all of the employees here after I still remained polite about the mistakes is not okay. The drive thru worker was rude taking my order, the cashier at the window basically tossed the ipad at me for me to add tip & sign after giving her my credit card & then finally Kathy hastily added the missing components to my sandwich. I thought going through the drive thru would be less hassle, but clearly I thought wrong. This sandwich shop needs a complete renovation, both interior and exterior. The drive-thru line was long, so I avoided that and parked in the adjacent lot near the fence. Since this was my first time trying this place, it was important for me to go inside and see the quality of ingredients and the cleanliness of the restaurant. As I entered, I noticed an odd smell, possibly plumbing issues; who knows... However, that was the first flag. The second flag was that the bread was not fresh, and loaves were sitting in plastic bags. While I was waiting in line, I really contemplated leaving and going to Jersey's Mikes, but there were so many people coming in and out; I figured that this whole in-the-wall sandwich shop had to be legit, plus I wanted to try something new. I kept my order simple, got the turkey sub, added turkey pastrami, pickles with the works (lettuce, tomato, red onion, oil, and vinegar), and mayo on white bread. Two employees were making the sandwiches, one employee managing the drive-thru (which is why the wait was long), and one cashier. My overall wait time was about 10 minutes. The staff was all older ladies who were kind and did the best they could to crank out orders during the lunch rush. I added a bag of chips to my order, which totaled out to be $12, including the tip. The sandwich itself was lacking ALOT of flavor. I hated the bread as it was not fresh. Also, it wasn't enough meat, and the pickle and mayo overpowered the sandwich in each bite, not appetizing. This is hands down my favorite sandwich place that uses Wisconsin cheese. I normally get the turkey & cheddar on white with the works & mayo. Every now & then I get the hot bbq with cheddar on white. I am disappointed in the ice cream. I have tried a hot fudge sundae and a chocolate malt. Bothe times it was melted. The hot fudge was on the bottom of container while ice cream on top melted like a river. Today I thought I would try the small chocolate malt, while the flavor was there it was runny. I stopped here this morning on my way to work for a breakfast sandwich. The prices were reasonable for sub sandwiches, but the breakfast sandwiches were a little high, in my opinion. I ordered a breakfast croissant, with bacon, egg and cheddar cheese. While the sandwich was large it still cost over $6 which was tad too much when I could get the same sandwich for $2.10 at Maple Donuts. The employees were very friendly and offered me a punch card. I love how friendly the staff were towards their regulars and could call them out by name. I didn't have a terrible experience with the staff, but they just blankly stared at me when I didn't know what the works was. I assumed it was something similar to Jersey Mike's sandwich shops, the "Mike's Way". Anyhow, I got a grilled chicken salad instead of a sandwich and there just wasn't much to say about it. They essentially throw the inside of a sandwich into a box and call it a day. I was hoping for a little more lettuce. I might go back and try a a sandwich, but the salad was very disappointing. Also, I'm not sure if I was charged correctly. I noticed after I left there was a $1.25 charge for a chef salad. Perhaps, its cause I subbed out the Asian salad dressing for the works, but I was never informed of it when I asked for the sub. I used to be the most-frequent diner at the Fort Worth location of The Great Outdoors. They knew my name and order without me having to say a word. I was sad when I moved to Dallas because I missed my favorite FW sammitch. Thankfully, this location of The Great Outdoors exists, but it's actually still quite a drive from where I live in South Dallas. I stop in for a sandwich here whenever I'm going to Northpark Mall or the flagship location of Half-Price Books. It's very close to these places. I stick with the turkey and provolone sandwich with the works. They also have fantastic pickles. Like the other locations, they also offer cheaper drink refills if you bring in their plastic cup. Somehow, I always forget to do this and end up with like 10 plastic cups at my house. Service at this location is excellent. I even saw a customer get outraged at the cashier over something petty.
