It's my wife's favorite Sub shop. The service is good and the sandwiches are better than subway. The ambiance fits a sandwich place.

Ordered an #12 with works - asked for extra Mayo and vinegar. Barely could taste it. lettuce was non existent- quit skimping on the vegetables. Couldn't find the onions either. Seems they are trained to do this to save food cost. Great Outdoors used to be a great sandwich shop but when you get skimpy sandwiches and charge what they do it's ridiculous. read more

Sandwiches at The Great Outdoors are great - quality and taste are very good. Service is always good. Ambiance...it's a deli, nothing special there, although it is always clean and I've never had an issue with getting searing...even at lunch time. read more

Great service and first rate employees but horrible food, I hate giving them one star. Hot sandwiches and soups are microwaved. The chicken noodle soup I had , the chicken was rubbery. The meats in the sandwiches are no better . Anyplace that used a microwave to cook should be avoided. read more

I find it hilarious, look at the pics and the ones that say Owner Posted. Check the amount of meat in those pics vs any other persons post. They skimp on meat and that makes the bread to meat ratio poor choice for a sandwich. Could be good, just isn't. read more

I don't enjoy paying $8 for a sandwich with almost no meat, an overkill of onions (after asking twice for none) to the point where now it only tastes like onions. Horrible service and responses tonight when ordering. It's usually hit or miss with this location but this is disappointing enough that I don't want to go back. read more

My new favorite sandwich place! I know they've been there a long time but I recently discovered their club and it's delicious!! It's on a toasted Flakey croissant!! So perfect! I haven't had the great outdoors in a few years. Last time I enjoyed it, but it was the Addison location. I'll get straight to the point.. The outdoorsman sandwich was decent. The broccoli soup was runny and it had the consistency of water. No flavour. It was awful. The garden salad litteraly was made from sandwich toppings. I actually thought for a moment it was my sandwich toppings in a separate container. Lack luster, and awful. The meatball sandwich my girlfriend ordered tasted like store purchased meatballs. She could not even eat it. Also to top off everything the lemonade she ordered tasted like sugar water. Not even a hint of lemon. Another thing she could not enjoy. The best part is all of this cost over $34.00. It seems the owner of this place has given up on the passion of what good food should be, and probably needs to find a new career. read more

It's really sad because the sandwiches here are super good. It's just that the kitchen handling is disgusting. Literally every time I go, I have to instruct people what to do . The cashier will be wearing gloves handling money , then run back and start helping with sandwiches without changing them . They have this wet random rag they use to sweep the trash lettuce off the counter , then they put your bread where they wipe. People think cause you are wearing gloves you're being responsible. You have to tell them to change gloves after they touched everything in the kitchen. I'd go more often , but I don't feel like going through this all the time with them read more

Update- after two consecutive visits to GO where servers weren't wearing mask I made my previous post reflecting my disappointment. I was almost immediately contacted by their owner who apologized and then offered insight to how she was planing to improve. I was very impressed by the urgency and focus GO took my concern. I revisited this past week and all employees were wearing mask. So happy to update my review because this is one of my favorite sandwich shops!!! read more

I don't usually submit reviews but the service here is atrocious. We place 2 different online orders (about $100 worth) over an hour in advance for 12:25 and 12:35. We were strapped on time because we're in between soccer games, our order times would have given my son plenty of time to eat before the next 2 games. They did not bother to even start our order until we got there!!! Then, we were still waiting on the order at 12:55! Because of their lackadaisical attitude my son had to play 2 competitive soccer games on an empty stomach. I hope the owner and manager see this, they are losing money because of this type of service. read more

I've been twice in the last month even though it isn't close. The drive thru service is slow but that could be a side effect of the COVID staffing problem and the only reason for the 4 stars. Honestly really starting to love this place. I started coming here sometimes for lunch with my husband, and they have wonderful food. Much better than 90% of the sandwich shops located in McKinney, and they're always super friendly whenever we come in. I love a good sandwich shop. Had a ton of choices, delicious bread, and everything tasted fresh. Also had the best sugar cookie of my life.

I adore this place!! They make some of the best sub sandwiches ever. I am usually just a "just the meat and cheese" type of person because I don't trust the veggies and extras at many places. But at Great Outdoors, the lettuce is always fresh and crisp, the tomatoes and cucumbers always taste like they came from the farmer's market, and they have amazing cheese and spice blends. My favorite cold sub is the #1 - it has salami and spiced ham. This location also serves locally-made ice cream. I don't eat ice cream a lot but I have had one mint-chocolate-chip come from Great Outdoors and it was super tasty! My husband highly recommends the meatball sub with the Italian pepper blend... For those of you who like a lot of flavor on your sub. ;) Also - they serve IBC root beer here! It's the perfect finish to a sandwich you can always count on to be delicious! :) Enjoy! read more

I grew up on The Great Outdoors subs. To be living so close to one now is heaven sent. It is comfort food to me. My favorite is #8 on wheat the works with havarti cheese. It is also very yummy as a salad add mushrooms. Their ice cream is locally made - Henry's in Plano. Give it a try. read more

Based on the excellent Yelp reviews I decided to give this place a shot. I called in an order for 5 people last night around 6:15pm. The phone order process went smoothly and I was told my order would be ready in 15-20 min. When I arrived and walked in, I was told they were slammed and hadn't even started preparing my order. There was one couple already eating in the dining room and one guest in line. The two girls behind the counter were apologetic and bemoaned that they were short staffed that evening. They prepared my order at a decent pace (no one was really busting their ass) while filling the order for two drive-through customers in the meantime. The total was $59 for 5 adults... so it certainly wasn't cheap. I drove 10 minutes home and sat down to my food within 15 minutes of it being prepared. My tuna sandwich had soaked through the soft roll and was basically inedible as a sandwich. My husband liked his meatball sub. The two salads we ordered were the saddest of all. They basically just use the shredded iceberg lettuce for the sandwiches as the base of the salad, and throw some sliced tomatoes and whatever else comes with your salad on top. This isn't a real salad. This is re-purposing sandwich materials and pretending it's a salad. The salad-people in my party didn't even really eat their food, as it was so unappetizing. The cookies were pretty good. The brownie was dry. The giant pickle was pretty awesome, but it hardly makes up for an otherwise 3/5ths ruined dinner. A disappointment all around. read more
