I came here this afternoon at 12:30 pm with a guest and my 3 month old infant in a stroller. I was…read moretold by the hostess that the stroller counted as a third person and I would need a table to accommodate 3 people which would be a 2 hour wait. I was told that if I were to leave the stroller in the car and hold/carry her, it would be a 50 minute wait for "two." I opted to go online and make a "reservation" for two and I would put the stroller in the car and hold my daughter for a reservation time of 1:00 pm (only a 30 minute wait). Why do I need to go online while standing in the restaurant to make a quicker "reservation" when I'm standing right in front of the hostess? When checking in for the 1:00 pm reservation, the hostess asked if I was going to hold my daughter or if I wanted a high chair for her. This made no sense as the entire point of me holding her was because I needed a "table for 2." If I was going to be offered a high chair for a baby that can't even sit up yet, I should've been able to keep her asleep in the stroller and still been a table for 2. How is a high chair at that point not considered a third? Her stroller wouldn't have taken up any more room. The whole experience was absurd, made absolutely no sense and was off putting. There has to be better processes in place. Adding that it is 96 degrees outside, so going back and forth with an infant was absolutely ridiculous.

Inside, the decor is perfect. From the bar to the dining area, everything was spotless. You can tell the staff really cares about keeping the place tidy. And they had New Orleans-style music playing through the sound system. Very relaxing. After looking through the menu, I was ready to place my order. I chose their fish special, which was salmon with veggies and a sauce (forgot the name). This dish was very good. It was probably the best cooked salmon I've ever had. When you see seafood with the perfect crust and a lot of flavor, you're in heaven. It did have a small bone and I felt it lacked the amount of squash and zucchini, but again, a wonderful meal. There was one situation which resulted in only a 4-star review. Out of curiousity, I saw on Facebook that they offered $5 discounts. I did let my party know and we were all ready to use them when the bill was ready. But the staff told us the discount was to be used on a table rather than an individual ticket. When we looked both on Facebook and our personal emails, none of that verbage was mentioned. Not trying to sound harsh, but please be sure to state every detail foe customers. We do want to find ways to save some cash out of our wallets. Except for the discount mishap, the visit turned out well. I can say I'll be back to give them anothee go-around. Till next time :)

I was then served a Crab Cake Sandwich, which I didn't order, so I had to wait another 10 mins for my Crab Cakes, which came out a little burnt. Overall, I wish I can say I had a better experience. We also had to wait quite a while for our server to bring over some waters. She was very nice but just kept forgetting. This spot is very cute and has a nice vibe so it could've just been an off night but I'm not sure if I would return.

There also wasn't much seafood to boast about. Maybe a scallop or 2, a very small quantity of shrimp....the crab meat and roll were the highlight. 3 STARS (for this visit). The service was GREAT! The Grey Goose has been a downtown Hampton staple for many years. Living far, far away in Alaska, I can tell you that I WISH there was such a place like it out here. The food is excellent, the updates and changes are great and the owners truly care about their business and their part in the Hampton community and economy. If you've never been, you won't regret trying it for the first time. My favorite sandwich is the Jiggedy Jog. It never fails to please the palate! The addition of their bakery line to the menu is unmatched in the area. Both of the owners, being professionally trained chefs and long time locals, make the Grey Goose a solid piece of the foundation of the downtown area. Another addition made by the owners include live and local entertainment. They have combined their love for theater and music with their love for good food and community together into a wonderful evening out called "Dinnertainment." Four times a year, they offer this fun-filled evening of great food, great entertainment all for a great price. With special dietary concerns offered on the menu, as well as their other items, you can't miss finding your new favorite! Amidst the slew of chain restaurants and fast food offerings, it's great to see a place that's been tried and true still around the downtown area of Hampton, Virginia. :) read more

If I could give this place six stars or even seven stars, I would. We were looking for someplace new and was given a good recommendation on two places to check out. We are so glad we chose this one. This restaurant is really laid-back and has an almost homey feel to it, with the small bar tucked off in the corner, the big display of pastries and cakes and pies right inside the front door and the stage for live music that takes up more floor space than it probably should. Everything on the menu looked great and we were pleasantly surprised at just how big the portions were; and it tasted even better than it looked. And to top the night off, we were given a free CD from the band that was playing. It was folksy music that was really really cool, made you laugh, and made you feel good. I am impressed with the way that the owners have rolled with the challenges of COVID 19. The Goose has managed to continue to offer high quality food and service even with restrictions imposed. Dana is excellent about supporting the needs of her customers by polling and having conversations about what her customers need. I recently had the beef brisket and it was delicious. The Grey Goose is a great place to dine with friends and family. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the owners Dana and Phillip are always on hand and the atmosphere is perfect. Choose from inside or patio seating, with a great menu and bar selection. During this pandemic they have done an amazing job to accommodate social distancing, keep their staff and patrons safe and continue to offer great meals, they are even doing daily family style meals to go. I have lived in downtown Hampton for over two years - I recently placed a to go order from the Goose ;-) on a Saturday and loved it! I had that feeling like I had been missing out on something haha. My meal was delicious and I was compelled to purchase two of their homemade cupcakes. Definitely amazing cupcakes! On another note, don't but a car from Checkered Flag VW in Va Beach! I recently had lunch with my wife at the Grey Goose. I went intending to have the Mother Clucker, how ever they were replacing the fry hood and could not fry chicken. I had the Son of a Brisket and it was wonderful. The meat was moist and flavorful. I have never had a bad meal there. I understand having to do maintenance and think it is smart to do it when business is off. I will return and I will have my fried chicken! read more

Trivia was a great until the host became unethical, follows his own rules not trivia rules, and caters to his "favorite" teams. Great place any night but Tuesday. I've been a Grey Goose customer for literally decades. The menu varies with seasons and fresh ingredient availability, but it's alway diverse and satisfying.
