I came across this café after a friend posted about it on Instagram, and it looked so cute that I immediately added it to my list. It's tucked away off the main street, so it's a little easy to miss if you don't know it's there. I visited on a weekday, and aside from one other group, it was pretty quiet. I loved being able to choose my own spot and settle in for a while. As a plant lover, this place was right up my alley. The walls are covered with greenery, and the whole café has a bright, garden like feel. It was such a relaxing place to sit and get some work done.The service was quick, the staff was friendly, and my latte was really good. I am a local and usually go to the coffee shop that's located in the gas station on Ingraham, but I decided to come here today. I had been here one other time and hated it, but decided to give it another try. I ordered two honey salted lattes. After waiting about five minutes, the girl called my name and handed me one hot latte. I told her I had ordered two, and she said the ticket only showed one, but then proceeded to make the other drink. She poured the hot drink into two cold cups and added ice. I asked if they had any espresso in them because the color was basically just milk. She said, "Oh, I forgot," then proceeded to pour a shot of espresso on top of the already diluted coffee. I tasted it and asked if there was any honey or salt. She said I had ordered a vanilla latte, which I didn't. She finally handed me a "salted honey latte," and it was gross and tasted like milk. I almost asked for a refund, but after three attempts, I just walked out. Don't come here--horrible. read more

After eating next door at Rocky's, I needed a little pick me up and stopped in at The Grounds Bean Bar. I was so torn on what to order but decided on the lavender honey latte. It was so good! My husband was really excited to take me here to try the avocado toast and get some coffee when I first moved here. Unfortunately, it seems like this place is inconsistent because our iced lattes pretty much just tasted like milk. I really couldn't even taste the coffee unfortunately. The service was fine and it wasn't too busy for a Saturday morning. It is really nice on the inside and they have a place where you can grab water. They also have some outdoor seating. I loved the inside decor and the vibe of the place. The avocado on toast was alright as well. I think it could be seasoned more to be more flavorful. It was very fresh and light with avocado, micro-greens, a lemon on the side, and cherry tomatoes on it. Overall, I can't say I was very impressed. I will probably give it another try in the future but for now, I am looking elsewhere in the Pacific Beach area for coffee and breakfast. read more

The coffee was good, avocado toast was eh. I'm sorry but the service was probably the worst I've ever experienced. The lady with the black curly hair (I think) that was calling the names was pretty rude.. I took my mom out and they called my name. I went up and got our two drinks. I took a few steps back to wait for the toast. She goes "um you're going to need to scoot back so I can keep serving people." There were literally two other customers in the whole place. We looked at each other all a little confused. Not busy at all. I told her I'm just waiting for my avocado toast. She goes "yeah I'll call you up at another time." I'm like ???? 10 minutes pass and my mom goes up and my toast was just sitting there. She never called me up. Maybe if you work with people, you should do some self reflecting and learn to be kind. This is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. It took me 45 minutes to get a coffee and there were only 4 people in the shop. I also got a bagel just toasted that was left in the toaster for 25 minutes and was given to me burnt a cold. I do not recommend. read more

I stopped in for breakfast while visiting from LA to do some racing. For some reason there was an issue with my debit card and it kept being declined because it was a new city than it was used to or some other non-sensical reason. When it didn't go through for a second time the cashier told me not to worry about it and it was on the house. They could tell I was in town for the race and would need the fuel. I eventually got it resolved and was able to pay them, but appreciated how cool and thoughtful they were and how gracefully they handled the situation. read more

Terrible--I stood around in a 3-person line for over 10 minutes only to be told that the espresso machine was down. Since I'd already invested all that time in waiting, I decided to try a matcha drink. It was so unhealthy--SWEET! It tasted like sugar. One sip and my stomach churned. I asked for a refund, and they told me they couldn't because the manager wasn't in. I left my phone number for her to call me back to initiate the refund. Location is probably the selling point here - near crown point park! Next to other restaurants. Parking can be tricky on the weekends. Coffee was just OK. I did enjoy the art and murals around the shop and the homey feel. Few tables and a bar with quiet feel if you wanted to get some work done or meet with friends. read more

I waited in a 20 min long line for their açaí bowl because it is my favorite in the area. Mind you, I was moving apartments that day (already stressed) and short on time, debated going to another spot nearby for food because I needed something to get me through the day, but I waited in line because I wanted THIS açaí bowl. I checked to make sure they were serving food because I have gone before and they have been short staffed and not selling their food items. All of the people in front of me had been ordering food and receiving it, the people RIGHT in front of me ordered food and received it, then I ordered my açaí bowl and she said "ooo we're taking a pause on food because our coworker didn't come in". If you can't hire enough staff, look inward on your business. Also if you're going to suddenly stop serving food items...let the people in line know so they can leave and give their business elsewhere!! read more

I never write yelp reviews - I even made one just for this place. I went twice over the past week, the first time they had no eggs. Okay that was fine but it was the second time that bothered me. No eggs, no cold brew, and lots of attitude. So mainly, my issue with this place is the fact they can't restock anything and the vibes are poor. Even poorer than this Yelp review. A nice little coffee shop a few minutes from the water in Crown Point area. Came here to grab some lunch and coffee on my way to work. I ordered a turkey sandwich and a nitro cold brew. The turkey sandwich tasted great, but the cold brew was okay. It didn't really have that velvety smoothness typically found with other nitro cold brews. The baristas nice and quick with the items I ordered. I didn't stay long as I had to get to work, but it seems like a nice spot to catch up with people on little coffee dates, as there is a bit of seating inside. This place is great to study! They have a bar-esque area to sit at and tables on the side. I got their chai latte which was pretty good not very strong but it was tasty. They have pastries as well and sandwiches. My friend got a turkey sandwich and said it was pretty good, he'd get it again. There's WiFi available, a couple outlet extension cords, one stall bathroom (you'll need a code), and outdoor seating. They close early but they have two round bench tables outside that stay there overnight, so my friends and I were able to study over time. Visited this coffee shop as we made our way back home after spending the weekend in San Diego. My partner and I ordered the iced Horchata espresso, with oat milk. It is hands-down in my top three favorite coffees I have ever had. The coffee flavor was strong, but the cinnamon pushed through perfectly. This is a cute, dog-friendly cafe within walking distance of the bay. There is parking along the surrounding streets, but you may need to walk a little bit. The cafe itself is really cute with bright, tropical-themed decor, and there is a little bowl with dog biscuits. Service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the hibiscus matcha drink, and it came with super gorgeous layers. The drink was a good sweetness level, and I always love trying variations of matcha, but something about this drink didn't click for me. It was a bit too watery, and I think I prefer a more full bodied, thicker matcha drink. I also tasted more hibiscus than matcha and I personally prefer matcha over hibiscus. I like my espresso strong. It came with 2 shots but I think it needed at least 3. The chagaccino is something that people either like or hate. I don't like cinnamon so I didn't care for it. My bf doesn't like mushroom so he didn't like it either. We missed that part where it listed mushroom as the ingredient. I know...it's the first item listed. The chagachinno wasnt bad. It's a mushroom coffee and you can taste the mushroom. Wasn't a huge fan but it was ok. Refreshing. The sandwich was average. This is my new favorite coffee shop! This place is near PB/Mission Beach and has relatively easy neighborhood street parking. I love it's aesthetic-- bright colors and beautifully decorated. I ordered the iced Dirty Chai Latte based on the recommendation of one of the baristas, and it's definitely one of the best lattes I've ever had. I was surprised by how good it was; I finished it concerningly fast. My friend got the peppermint mocha, which is a seasonal drink, and it was also really good. You can bring your own reusable cup, FYI. We also got an avocado toast and a grounds avocado toast (which has burrata, prosciutto, and a balsamic glaze drizzle), both of which were super yummy. I will be dreaming about the balsamic glaze until I die. We elected to sit outside since it was a nice day and do work. The wifi is free and strong. Overall, it was a great experience.
