Barista Botanist is such a cute spot in PB, especially if you're a plant lover. There are plants everywhere, which gives the whole place a cozy, relaxing vibe. It was absolutely packed when I visited, and finding a seat felt like a challenge. I eventually snagged a little desk in the corner. Sure, it was next to the bathroom, but honestly I was just happy to have my own little workspace. I ordered a lavender ube latte, half sweet, and it was so good. The flavors were perfect, and the temperature was spot on. Also, can we take a moment for their ceramic cups? So cute! For food, I tried their Cali vegan sandwich. It was okay, but I was hoping for a little more flavor. It felt a bit dry, and the fries weren't very hot by the time they arrived. Given how busy the place was, I'm guessing that may have played a role. Overall, it's a solid place to hang out, grab a coffee, or get some work done if you can find a table. Place is cute. It has a lot of plants. Seating inside and also outdoor but it can get pretty packed. We came on a Monday and it was quite busy. Got the lavender ube latte and it didn't really have a lot of ube on top compared to drinks I've seen that were posted online. I couldn't really taste the ube. Lavender was just ok. All the indoor tables comfortably fit 2 people. Groups larger than that would probably be best outside on the patio. I don't remember if there are enough outlets so bring a fully charged laptop. The moonlight chai was recommended to me and it was ok, I'd probably order something else next time. The steak sando was good and would recommend! I'd like to start off with the good things, this place is absolutely gorgeous. I love plants and coffee, so it was hard not to fall in love with the space. There are plants everywhere, huge open windows, and a very airy layout that made the whole café feel super cozy and relaxing for me. They also have a lot of outdoor seating, which is nice on a good weather day. I ordered a latte, which I'd give around a 4/5, and the cinnamon roll was easily the highlight for me which was super fresh and absolutely delicious, definitely a 5/5. Now for the downsides, it's definitely a little pricey, and the staff didn't come across as very friendly or welcoming. Overall though, I'd still give it around a 3.5/5. I absolutely love how cute this spot is. All of the coffee and matcha options are so unique and delicious. They offer goat milk here which is great! I ordered the steak sando and it was absolutely delicious. The side of sweet potato fries were amazing!! Unfortunately the matcha pancakes were not good. It genuinely took so long for them to come out, at least over 30 minutes. All of my friends had completely finished eating so it really took a long time, we even reminded a worker. They also didn't taste like matcha. Overall I definitely will be coming back disregarding the pancake mess. The coffee is really great and you can't go wrong with that. Late Tuesday morning Matcha on on Girls Thrifting Day! The happen to stumble across this because the thrift shop a few doors was closed. Bonus points for how dog friendly this establishment is. The barista botanist does a great job at mixing all the trendy Instagram vibes with a truly good latte. A lot of the times when I see funky flavors and cold foams like blood orange, ube, etc., it sounds really good in theory but the flavor doesn't match. I've never felt that at barista botanist. Every "fun" coffee I order tastes better than the last. It's strong, high quality coffee with the perfect amount of creaminess to it. It's not overly strong and it's not overly sweet- the perfect combo. Today i ordered an iced vanilla latte with vanilla cold foams- YUM. I didn't get one this time, but their cookies are PHENOMENAL. The restrooms and space is extremely clean. Note that parking is street parking, so it can be pretty difficult depending on time of the week/day! They really do taste as good as they look. The set up is a casual order where food and drinks are made to ordering with partial service by paying up front, picking up your drink, and they give you a number for your food to be delivered to your table. I sat outside and found a partial sunny/shady spot. The food and drinks took awhile with me peeking to see if our drinks were done which they weren't and seeing our food come out first and our drinks ready after. After the food was delivered I grabbed our drinks inside. The server grabbed our request for utensils and the fly prevention spinner. When she came back we then asked for small plates. After waiting to eat our food for awhile we realized she forgot and never came back. We then followed up by going inside to ask again for the plates . The pizza was scrumptious and stood out as our fave! It was flavorful and delightful! We also enjoyed the salad which tasted good and refreshing with with the touch strawberries and pecans. I got the iced organic Hawaiian honey latte. It did not disappoint. It was not too sweet, had lots of flavor and the coffee is strong! Just how I like it. We also ordered an Ube cookie and breakfast pizza! Both were delicious. I'd come back for the breakfast pizza alone. The service is interesting as you're expected to get your drinks, but they serve your food to your table if you order "for here." The Hawaiian Honey Latte is smooth, slightly sweet, and super balanced -- not overly sugary, just the right touch of honey. It's now my go-to. Also tried the banana bread and honestly, it's kind of perfect. Warm, moist, with a buttery edge that makes it feel homemade (in the best way). Simple but done really well. They have SO many flavors to choose from, but you can't go wrong with the chocolate chip one! I've done lots of cafe hopping and I like the serene atmosphere here of all the green and pretty flower bouquets that are on display and for sale. My order was two matcha lattes: Lavender Ube and Blood Orange Cream Latte. Both were decent, but the Orange matcha latte was more prominent in flavor than the Ube + Lavender. I could barely taste it, that is, until I put some sweetener packets, then the flavor enhanced. I do want to try the food sometime, as they have a wide variety of selections as well. Overall, it's a nice stop to have if you're wanting a drink or a quick bite. There was limited seating inside, but they have set up a few tables to dine in the front too. The Barista Botanist is the latest cafe shop to open in Pacific Beach. They've taken the space previously held by La Clochette de Coin, a fantastic french bakery cafe which relocated to Mission Valley. Parking is a challenge in this mostly residential neighborhood. The cafe always draws a crowd and there's always a line, that seems to move sloth slow. Once in line, you can be productive and catch up on your emails and texts for work or otherwise and/or chat with your furbaby with adoration. The staff behind the counter are nice but not very service oriented since they move in slow motion with disregard for the long line of customers. The menu offers terrific drinks of coffee, tea and food. There's limited seating inside and outside, so I'm deterred from ordering since there's no place to sit. Also I'm not a fan of eating from takeout boxes and plastic utensils, I prefer plates and silverware. Have only tried coffee drinks and really really liked the creative concoctions using organic, non dairy and just yummy ingredients. The Lavender Ube Latte is my fav, the lavender flavor is subtle and the Ube creamy topping isn't overly sweet. The golden cinnamon latte comes in as my second fav, cinnamon offers healthy benefits and does help reduce blood pressure and sharpen cognitive function, something some people really should consider including in their daily diet of supplements. If you have time to kill waiting in line, you might want to consider a visit to this cafe for their creative coffee drinks. And by the way, the shop also sells flower bouquets, plans, pots and vases, hence the Barista Botanist. read more

A popular PB bakery and cafe that closed several months ago has been replaced by The Barista Botanist. The suite was just north of the US Post Office and featured several sidewalk tables for outdoor dining as well as some indoor seating. The menu seemed to be more diverse than its predecessor with a focus on organic and plant-based products. The operating hours are from 8 am to 8 pm daily which is great because most of the cafes in this neighborhood have a closing time by the middle of the afternoon. Coffee, tea, matcha, energy drinks, and smoothies were available as beverages. From the list of eight Botanist Super Smoothies, I picked the Glow which was made up of organic coconut water, organic coconut cream, organic aloe vera, organic mango, organic pineapple, collagen, organic turmeric, organic coconut sugar, and organic vanilla bean. While I appreciated all of the organic ingredients, the $14 price was steep for a 16 oz serving size. I tasted a lot of mango and pineapple which overshadowed the coconut products. The food categories were Breakfast, Protein Sandwiches, Superfruit Bowls, Sourdough Pizzas, Salads/Grains Bowls. My choice was the Grass Fed Steak Sando that came with a side of Purple Sweet Potato Fries. Grass fed skirt steak, jalapeno avocado aioli, organic chimichurri, grass fed cheddar cheese, and wild arugula were stacked inside ciabatta bread that was sliced in half. The meat was a bit chewy, however the aioli and chimichurri imparted very flavorful spreads to this protein sandwich. The service I received was decent. The cost was something to be mindful for their organic items as I spent $40 after tax and gratuity for a smoothie, sandwich, and fries. What a cute place! You order at the front for self service which I love. They had healthy options from organic ingredients to juice shots. They had a lot of unique but healthy but yummy smoothies, I got the berry cobbler and I loved it! I enjoyed a very good cortado and pretty good BB avocado toast from this new coffee shop in Pacific Beach, San Diego. The place is definitely hip. I dig all the plants inside the shop. The cortado was smooth and rich. It was served in a very nice artisan cup. The BB Avo Toast was served on a well toasted sourdough bread. It came with freshly sliced organic avocado, a delicious pesto spread, cherry tomatoes, crispy onions, and micro greens for $13. The toast was tasty. It did need a little bit more avocado and the need to be careful because some of the slice still had the avocado's rind in them. The pesto sauce was very good and the cherry tomatoes were bursting with juiciness. Service at the counter was friendly, but I was a little confused because I ordered in, and they brought out my toast to me to my table, but they wouldn't bring out my cortado to me. Came here 3 days in a row while visiting San Diego. The pizza, (breakfast, the ricotta lemon one and the steak chimichurri) were all top notch. Breakfast burrito and steak and eggs followed suit. The banana cold brew is okay, it needs more banana added imo. I am interested in trying the actual food. Service is kind, but very slow. Each time I've gone, it's need a minimum of 45 to order and receive 1 drink. I'm hoping this is bc they are still relatively new and that it settles soon.
