I was very disappointed as it seems like the popular items listed here are no longer on their menu. No more of that special Mac and cheese dish, no crab fried rice, no baos. This place didn't seem like an Asian fusion restaurant to me, but more so a Korean restaurant that also served sushi. Hamachi ceviche ($15) Diced raw hamachi mixed with edamame beans and bits of sweet potato. Not sure how sweet potato bits go with raw fish. I was just confused with this dish. The ceviche came with chips, assuming to dip or scoop the ingredients it came with but the chips were not acceptable. The ceviche had quite a few slices of hot peppers but I did not taste any kick or spice in the ceviche. Overall the fish did taste refreshing. Soft shell crab tacos ($13 for 3) I am not a fan of having my soft shell crab deep fried in panko crust as I feel like it takes away the texture of the soft shell crab. This soft shell crab was panko crust fried with a crunch too hard for my liking. Gochuchang brisket beef tacos ($13 for 3) There was a decent amount of beef brisket meat but I tasted no gochujang flavour which I assumed was supposed to be the key flavor of this taco. It also came with guacamole which made me even more confused as a totally did not go with the beef brisket. Uni Hotate sushi ($15 for 3 pieces) This was slightly disappointing as I expected there to be more uni or at least half a piece of uni versus the tiny blob that was served on top of the scallop. I thought about trying their Chef's sushi Moriwise but after hearing what fish was included it was quite a turn off. I'm freaken obsessed with the haam. Mexican fusion style restaurants are my absolute favourite and I've been here so many times. I have always had a pleasant experience (with the service and the food). My go-to is ALWAYS the fish and shrimp tacos + any pressed sushi. I love the tuna and salmon ones. The food is great, the drinks are great (a bit overpriced but like... it's downtown Toronto... whaddya expect), the vibes are great. My fave menu items: tuna tataki (order it for dine-in!!! probably doesn't keep well for takeout), bulgogi tacos (the best tacos on the menu!!!), the sushi rolls that come with the tortilla bits on top, the fries (and get extra mayo), gochujang taco Menu items I would skip: the fish taco (it's not bad but, after the bulgogi taco? why settle for Good when you can have Excellent?), the mushroom taco, the korokke, the takoyaki. This place is unreal. Both the tacos and sushi are to die for. It was really nice too that if I'm not feeling like sushi and want tacos but the other way around for my boyfriend we could get two completely different cuisines and have a bit of each other's. The vibe is really cool with awesome art and an authentic kitchen in the back. I highly suggest the butterfly roll, ceviche, and shrimp hard tacos. The only thing to add is that the sushi rolls lacked rice at the bottom so sometimes when picking them up the contents in the sushi fell out the bottom, also it would be great if the tacos had an extra crunch to them like cabbage! Was expecting a greater variety of foods with a fusion restaurant but it seemed like it was just tacos and japanese food (sushi, don, etc.) Nevertheless, I was craving sushi anyways so I ordered their lunch special with 8 pieces of sushi and a spicy salmon roll. The miso soup that came with the lunch special was a bit flavourless, not the biggest fan. The sushi itself was plated beautifully and the fish looked and tasted fresh. However, after picking up the first piece of sushi, the rice fell apart and dropped onto my lap :/ I admit that I am quite clumsy but I do think they could do a better job with the rice. Also, the spicy salmon roll lacked the crunch that I look for (but that is just personal preference). It had a generous amount of salmon and a great flavour. I might come back to try some of their special rolls (they look great from their instagram page) but you might want to find a different place if you are looking for fusion food. read more

This cute spot is a perfect place for a date night. The restaurant itself was not large, but was very well decorated (Super cute for photos, theres a massive neon sign too). The staff are friendly, and the food was very delicious. There are options for those who eat meat, or pescatarians, and even for vegetarians. This is the first time that I've ever been to a place that served amazing sushi but also amazing tacos, all in the same spot. We ordered 2 sets of special rolls (8 pieces per set), 1 appetizer, and 1 plate of 3 tacos to share between 2 people, and it was pretty good! BC Tuna - This was a ceviche like dish with raw tuna, citrus juices and some creaminess. Light, fresh, and creamy. Definitely recommend as an app. [At this point at about 3/330, the whole staff ate lunch, so I just hung out and did work.] Hotate Trufa - I then ordered this roll. The Haam! I lived nearby for about 3 years and was a regular here. A cool fusion between Tacos and Sushi, I really enjoyed the food selection it as it hit my cravings on several fronts. They have a bunch of special rolls, good classic sushi options as well as hot Japanese izakaya style dishes like chicken karage coupled with a great selection of tacos. They have daily specials and we went on a Friday which was 15% off a bottle of wine. Their selection of wine isn't the most expansive, understandably but the quality of food was incredible. Found this on yelp and decided to try it out on a Sunday afternoon. We went for a super early dinner at 4:30 (right after their break) and we absolutely loved it. The decor was really nice, with different anime posters around, as well as Totoro covered menus! We got the ceviche and Jalapeño karaage to start. The karaage was not as amazing as we had hoped - I don't think I'd get it again. The pieces weren't that big and I kind of felt like I was eating balls of just fried dough. However, the shrimp and scallop ceviche was to die for. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any scallops in it but there was a lot of shrimp. The taste was just sour enough for my liking. There was a pleasant surprise in the middle of the ceviche with a glob of guac, which was amazing! Their chips to pair the ceviche were also really good - sturdy enough that even when I had a lot of toppings on it, it didn't break. As for the entrees, we got the salmon and uni don and the spider roll. The roll was pretty good - the pieces were huge! The salmon on the rice were nice thick pieces of salmon sashimi and the quality was great. They gave a lot of uni in the dish so it feels pretty worth it. However, I'm pretty sensitive to the "ocean" taste in uni and I could taste it in this uni. I don't think I'd get anything with uni here again because of that. The customer service here was great. They give you your own bottle of water to pour so you don't have to keep asking for more water. If you go to the Haam, you should ask the associates what the name means. Diving right into the food, here are what blew me away: Corn Salad - when you look at it, this bowl of salad seems very unassuming. But when I tried it, I was super surprised at the depth of tastiness!!! The juicy corns were bursting with flavors. Sambal Karaage - this isn't just another karaage dish. The chicken is marinated in honey sambal. It's got a kick to it but not spicy. Soft Shell Crab Tocos - I hesitated with this dish. I mean, it's crab, with shell. But it was indeed soft...more like soft-crunchy. It was really nicely fried, with chipotle mayo and guacamole on taco, of all things! Hotate Trufa Rolls - my favourite of the night. Scallop truffles that packed enough flavors to dazzle my palate. A must must must try lol. The Aburi Sushi - beautifully presented that I hesitated to touch anything on the plate. But I did lol. Super cool decor with brick walls throughout. Their menus are of different anime and animated movies. Very unique and quite representative of their diverse options for food. I quite like this place. I've never had Japanese-Mexican fusion before this - the flavours, if done right, can taste good together (and if done wrong, I think could be disastrous). It's a bit pricey, but I would definitely go back. The dishes are generally very unique and have lots of flavours and textures. We didn't spend a fortune, and we left EXTREMELY full. I think I died and went to heaven. There are no words to describe the feelings I had when I started eating. Maybe just a combination of "uuuuuuuuu" and "omgggggs" while I almost drowned in my food. We sat down and IMMEDIATELY had to order my green apple soju. They had a special that day where it was $5 off (my Chinese genes were LIVING!) It was our first time really exploring Toronto and we weren't expecting much, but boy did this place blow us away. Setting was casual but could work for a more intimate experience as well. The waitress was very kind and casual, giving us recommendations of what most people ordered and about Toronto in general. As for food, we ordered the Queen Elizabeth roll and the crispy shell Gochujang Barbacoa tacos. Their sushi and tacos definitely place somewhere in the top 3 of all places I've been to. The tuna and salmon tasted so fresh, and that sear on the salmon combined with the sauce really helped to bring out that savory and sweet flavor. If you want sushi that melts in your mouth, you need to try the Queen Elizabeth. The tacos were also exceptional-- flavor so savory and meat so juicy that my hands were dripping. No joke, a storm tore through my napkin by the end of the meal. Man, my stomach is grumbling now. We ordered 3 different types of tacos, to share between 3 people: the beef, pork, and fish taco. All the tacos were amazing. Of course, we also got grapefruit soju! Service was great because instead of serving us 1 plate of 3 beef tacos, 1 plate of 3 fish tacos, and 1 plate of 3 pork tacos, they served each of us a plate of 1 fish, 1 beef, and 1 pork taco. Small restaurant with a fun, trendy vibe that serves japanese-mexican fusion food. I was able to get a table without a reservation, but the tables all quickly filled up shortly after sitting down. Reservations are definitely recommended as it seems the restaurant only holds around 40 or so seats. One of the first things I noticed were the Disney/Studio Ghibli pictures on each menu, which I thought was really cute. There are more Disney/Studio Ghibli pictures hung up against the wall too. Crispy Shell Chorizo Taco: a little oily, but great flavours! Crispy Shell Gochujang Barbacoa Taco (Beef): couldn't taste the gochujang at all, but the beef was very tender and overall great taste! Soft Shell Baja Fish taco: great flavours again too. Overall, I would recommend getting the crispy shell tacos over the soft shell as it adds a nice crunchy texture that contrasts with your fillings. Queen Elizabeth Roll: omg...seared salmon AND spicy tuna? Best combination ever. That slight smoky flavour from the torched salmon just enhances the overall taste of the roll. I'm glad the rolls are decently sized too. Would have loved another plate of this...if only I wasn't so stuffed from our other dishes. Lobster Grande Roll: I was so hesitant ordering this roll since it was the most expensive roll on the menu ($21) and wasn't sure if other reviewers were just overhyping this dish. This lobster roll was SO WORTH IT. This was easily my favourite dish of the night and I have no regrets ordering it despite the pricetag. Each piece was big and just melts in my mouth. Even though the jalapeño salsa was quite spicy, it makes the entire dish come together along eith the smoky taste of the torched sushi. Pure sushi heaven. Walking into the haam, the atmosphere was pretty similar, except the menu option here is more izakaya like instead of just sushi items. I went here a few nights ago with a couple of friends. Made reservations and was seated perhaps ten minutes after so since the party before us hadn't finish eating. After being seated, we quickly ordered. And what I want to highlight here while is everything is your standard izakaya option and pricing, they have an item that was a soft shell crab in a taco. This thing was massive. I believe four of them came out to 30$. A bit expensive but as you see in the picture, it is huge! I didn't even know how to eat it but once you go at it, it became doable. I have heard mixed reviews, but as a fan of Japanese fusion food, I really wanted to give The Haam a try. During my visit, I ordered the Agedashi Tofu appetizer, Assorted Aburi Sushi Set and the Hotate Trufa Roll. The tofu appetizer was good. It's a simple dish, but the way they paired the tofu with ponzu sauce, radish and scallions was very tasty. The Aburi Sushi was mediocre, but the presentation was appealing. The Hotate Trufa Roll was definitely the highlight that night. It is a maki roll topped with scallop, spicy salmon, avocado, cucumber, kani and drizzled with truffle oil. It doesn't get more fusion than this! My friends who ordered the tacos said they were really good too. Especially the soft shell crab tacos. I think I will come back to try those. The day we went in, it was 20% Sake which was nice since it was a birthday after all. Their menu are super nostalgic. The food in the menu is good too. A lot of options to pick from to make sure everyone is happy. It's best to order a variety of items and share them family style if going with a larger group. If not, single portion options work also.
