If you haven't had Halal Guys, you are missing out! I ordered the chicken and beef gyro sandwich, the chicken and beef gyro platter, and the French fries. And let me tell you, everything was on point! Though the French fries were on the "soggier" side (most likely due to the chaos of their grand opening), I thoroughly enjoyed the lightly salted crinkle cut fries along with my two entrees. The entrees were everything I would want in a meal: flavorful protein with veggies that cut through the heaviness. The restaurant, itself, has a nice casual vibe. There is a nice mural spanning the main wall and details on how the franchise came about. Though there is not a lot of space dedicated to the line, there is more seating inside with booths and tables. The interior is similar to many other "fast food" restaurants, in the best way possible. This place was always on my places to try list and I'm glad they came to Colorado. I ordered a small chicken platter and the portion was pretty large. I enjoyed that aspect; however the food itself is pretty bland and nothing to it. I've never tried the white sauce and had no idea what to expect but it was also just ok. The red sauce is pretty spicy which I liked though. Overall, it was ok but nothing special about it unfortunately. I really wanted to love it, but I probably won't be back. Plus I love that's the owners chose to open in Aurora, and one of the most diverse in global cities in Colorado. It's awesome to see it in the shopping center near other diverse, culinary options. We ordered takeout and paid the ~$10 delivery service fee (arrived via a Lyft driver) to have three bowls delivered on a Sunday evening. We all enjoyed our beef gyro bowls with a side of pita, hot sauce and white sauce. I have been here before and was definitely disappointed in the chicken bowl. Plus, we have ordered takeout and the chicken is always dry or overcooked so we no longer get chicken as the meat option. I definitely recommend getting the beef gyro instead of chicken at HG. I just got my delivery from Uber Eats and I was so excited about the chicken platter. I was also excited about Halal being close enough for delivery as I am on a very strict diet to go from 280lbs to 120lbs (almost there at 189lbs) but sadly the Halal Guys failed to impress me. I ordered the Chicken platter with extra rice and no lettuce and tomatoes with falafel and hummus added. The chicken platter in the picture looks like White Meat chicken doesn't it? That's the only animal protein I eat, other than that for health and moral purposes no meat. What I got was dark meat (barf) with no sauces at all. So the rice was all I could eat, that's pretty expensive rice I ordered. The hummus was serviceable but I cannot eat the chicken and I am completely grossed out that it was served to me. Manhattan's famous and delicious halal street cart is now open and serving up their famous late night street food in Aurora. The Halal Guys started out as a hot dog stand on the corner of 53rd and 6th in Manhattan. The owner decided that hot dogs weren't as satisfying and instead began to offer chicken or gyro sandwiches and rice platters. The menu was simple, rice platters or pita sandwiches with two choices for protein: chicken or gyro meat. What had people coming back was their famous creamy white and spicy red sauce. The cart became popularized by late night cab drivers and people leaving the clubs late, and soon, many other chicken and rice imitators started to pop up. However, 53rd and 6th became a foodie landmark for the original Halal Guys food cart. Whenever I've been, the lines have always been longer than 45 minutes in spite of other similar imitation chicken and rice street carts having no lines on the other side of the block. The Halal Guys brick and mortar in Aurora has a larger menu compared to the street cart, offering falafel as a vegetarian protein source as well as sides and dessert. The food is definitely on point. I prefer the BEEF GYRO RICE PLATTER over the chicken because it has more flavor, but the chicken is also super moist and tender. The platters are served with your choice of protein over a bed of rice, lettuce and tomatoes and slices of pita. The OG way is to smother the white sauce on top of all of that, but the brick and mortar offers white sauce packets as an option, something especially helpful for to-go orders. I would like to issue a WORD OF CAUTION to anyone new to Halal Guys regarding the RED SAUCE. The red sauce is extremely spicy. I normally cannot finish an entire red sauce packet per meal. The flavor is delicious and it really pairs nicely with the creamy and rich white sauce, however, I normally only add a few drops of the red sauce to each bite. Any more and my mouth is on fire. Do keep in mind that this place is not your typical Mediterranean cuisine. It has its origins from the greasy street cart food of late night New York City, and so the food is much more rich and heavy. The rice is delicious, but also drenched in oil. I still can't believe there's The Halal Guys in Colorado! I remember first trying it in Philadelphia 2-3 years ago and now it's only 20 min away from me! We actually went during their grand opening (which we didn't intend to but it still worked out great) and waited about 20 minutes to get in the door and another 10 minutes to get our food and pay. The hype is REAL with this place. It's almost like a simplified Chipotle where you select what you would like to add but there's already a base to your meal. Whether it's the platter or sandwich, it'll always come with the rice or wrapped in pita, your protein of choice, tomatoes, and lettuce (and of course, you can choose to omit whatever you don't like). Then you can add additional toppings like jalapeños, onions, or green bell peppers! And don't forget the famous sauces. White sauce is probably the most popular and adds such a great creaminess. The red sauce is definitely HOT so if you can handle your spice, load it up! The chicken is pretty bland but the beef and falafel were exceptional! In my opinion, opt for one of those instead of the chicken. The Halal Guys is a great place to grab food but I wouldn't necessarily go out of your way for it. The space itself is small with not a lot of indoor seating, but there is an outdoor area for you to be at. It's nestled in a large complex with lots of parking so no issues there! The white sauce was very good, not as garlicky as other places. The red sauce was so spicy! TIP: don't douse all over your meat unless you have had it before. I would just ask for a packet of red sauce on the side rather have them drizzle it on the plate. The rice was fluffy and flavorful. So happy to finally have some street cart style halal food in Denver! Being from NYC, I was ecstatic to try this place and see if it's the real deal. I got the combo (chicken & beef) platter which comes with rice, lettuce, tomato, and pita triangles. Super yummy although the taste is not as Mediterranean as I was anticipating. The service was great. Nikki (store manager I think) was great and even offered our pup a small bowl of water when she saw we were eating in the outdoor dining area! The baklava cheesecake is SO so GOOD! My only suggestions are I wish they would warm/toast the pita a little and I wish the white sauce was yogurt based instead of mayo based, but those are just minor details. It was fragrant and had a nice texture. The beef gyro was good but I normally don't like that as much as chicken. The falafel was crispy yet moist inside which was fantastic. The staff is so friendly - they carefully explained our options and gave recommendations on what to order. We also received several BOGO coupons for sandwiches and can't wait to go back! We ordered two combo platters for lunch and tried the beef gyro, chicken, and spicy chicken. Fast, easy ordering. Great balance of rice, meat, and veggies. Go for all four toppings (jalapenos, olives, green peppers, and onions). The white sauce and red sauce are delicious - it's hard to find anywhere in Denver with truly spicy food, and this is it! They seemed reluctant to give out too much red sauce as it seems other customers have had trouble with it being overly spicy - if you like spicy food, tell them to keep going with the red sauce. Pita was warm and pillowy. 4.5 stars overall - there's something about the joy of hearing, seeing, and smelling them cook and chop the meat at the food cart that just can't be captured at this location. I'm so happy they finally open I went on the first day of opening at 10:00pm there was no line, but a table inside that was sitting down eating asked me how bad was the line outside I told them there's no line outside lol, they were surprised and told me they waited 2 hours in line. Two stars because the food was edible and the staff was great. I've heard such rave reviews that I had to stop in and try it myself. The meat was dry and incredibly salty, and the salt was the only flavor it had. I'm used to a lamb gyro or lamb and beef mixture, which wasn't an option, but no points lost there. Should we talk about the tzatziki, or should I say "white sauce"? Aside from stating that I'm pretty sure it's just Mayo, I think it would be a waste of time to discuss it further. I got there early for the grand opening, because you know.. the first Halal guys in Colorado! it was a great experience seeing the ribbon cutting and eating amazing food! We were in line and we could smell the wonderful food, they checked on us regularly and got us water and popsicles while waiting in line. And when we got our food, it was absolutely worth it!
