Ok, I am planning on going back again to try their plates out... but for now they get 3 stars. I will say that my husband being from the Middle East and having lived there for many years, we are a bit more picky when it comes to Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food. We tried the chicken sandwich and the meat gyro sandwich. The chicken wasn't very good-- lacked flavor and was kind of chewy. The meat was good. Falafel were good and the hummus was decent. My husband complained that they should make chicken shawarma instead of the chewy chunks of chicken. Let me start by saying I had the Halal Guys at NYC a week before visiting this franchise. I was soooo happy to find that they are now in Denver!!! We ordered the four combo platters - beef gyro and chicken, and the beef gyro and lamb. Taste and presentation is the same as NYC. Few things that this particular location can improve on: 1. ratio of lettuce and ratio. I got like 3 cups of lettuce and a cup of rice and a dash of diced tomatoes. I would prefer a proportionate, if not bigger portion, of rice. 2. Food is cold. I get that it is not freshly cooked but rather is kept in the warmer. My expectation is not high; food should AT LEAST be warm in the warmer, right? 3. Service.In NYC, there are only two staff members in the location. Here in Denver, there's like three in the counter and three cooking. I am not complaining that there are too many staff for such a tiny place. I am complaining, however, that my food is cold. There are very few people in the restaurant. If they are not yet seeing that much traffic, then don't cook too much food ahead of time. I want to give less stars, honestly. The food is decent but not a good value. Small lamb platter, fries and a drink hit me for $25??!! The platter was a little rice and a ton of lettuce. Not worth the price. Gotten delivery and picked up from here - both times the food was hot, fresh, and super tasty! It's easy to find off of I-225 there's plenty of parking as well. The service is fantastic and super fast as well. Everyone wore masks and food handling was careful by all of the staff. I always get the combo platter with both gyro meat and chicken. Both meats were well seasoned and not dry and the rice was fluffy and full of flavor. Vegetables were crisp and fresh - the iceberg lettuce does wilt fast so eat it quickly! As a native New Yorker who frequented the 53rd and 6th carts and their actual locations in the village, I am very happy they opened up a location here! We went twice and the first time the line was about 60 people deep and we didn't want to wait. 2nd time they ran out of food and gave us vouchers for a free platter. 3rd time we finally got it and it satisfied our craving although it is still not as good as the halal guys back home. I've had it in NYC as well and so this is a different experience and more "suburban" of course, but the food is literally the same. This is American Halal and the sauces are a MUST. There is a lot of filler with rice, lettuce and tomatoes. I enjoyed the freshness of the lettuce and tomato. The white sauce is simply a form of thinned out mayonnaise. It tastes good but nothing revelatory. The prices are a bit high to deem it a good value, $2 for two falafels as an example The folks making the food are cramped and it is uncomfortable to witness. As a result, the lobby is stuffy. Keep in mind that there are 4 tables outside to eat. The outside seating is not particularly pleasant as it faces the main thoroughfare but this is considerably better than sitting inside as it is shaded during dinner time. There wasn't a line when I arrived around 5:15. I won't be returning as I don't support PIF. That lines a business person's wallet and raises the price by 2.5%. It may seem trivial but that adds up and that is why the business crooks do it. Note that this is high for this type of fee that is creeping up pervasively in Colorado (i.e., Sheridan, Glendale city set, 9th & Colorado, Lakeside, areas within Colorado Springs, etc.). Make sure to ask for and read your receipts. There are many other businesses in Colorado charging these hidden fees and not being transparent about it except on the receipt. read more
