Small Chicken Platter
Stella L.

I've been to NYC many times as a tourist and have never eaten at Halal guys which is a staple in the city. Saw this was located by my work and came here during my lunch break. I got the small chicken platter and got the free toppings including the lettuce and tomatoes. And of course, I had to get the infamous "white sauce." TBH my expectations were a little higher for this. The white sauce just tasted like mayo (which is what it is anyways). The chicken was just okay too. At least the small platter was a good size to fill me up. I think this is a "healthier" meal (without the white sauce) compared to fried foods if you're searching for a late night treat. But overall I didn't find it to be anything memorable.

Go to Mediterranean eatery. Fullfilling for simple options and great if you're on a diet. I usually order the small chicken platter and add olives and tahini. I was in the go so dined in. I was full but didn't cause bloating. If you're in the area, stop in.

Order a late night meal, it's really good quality and clean. Worst $24 Doordas delivery .

This is a solid, tasty well-rounded meal. I got the small platter with chicken over rice which was still pretty filling for less than $12. The rice is tasty, the chicken is always cooked well, and I love the sauces. The white sauce is a must, and the red sauce is pretty spicy but adds great flavor. Service has always been good, and I've never sat in the restaurant. It's pretty clean in there but what's great are the hours! Great go-to meal.

Chicken platter ($11.29)

My first experience with The Halal Guys was at the original food cart and I loved it. The good thing about their brick and mortar stores compared to the cart is that they're open late until 4am most nights and 5am other nights. It's not a big space and it's more of a to-go spot but there are some seats for you to sit and eat. I ordered the chicken platter ($11.29) with extra white sauce. Unfortunately the meat was bland and on the dry side but the white sauce helped to mask the dryness. That stuff is addicting and I recommend you get yours with extra white sauce as well. Beware that you should not do the same with the red sauce because even a little bit is already very spicy (see below). It was a relatively inexpensive meal and works great as a late night drunchies spot. The staff was not super friendly and one of the workers gave me extra red sauce even when I said I didn't want it. It was pretty damn spicy and left me in pain all night and the next morning. Looking back I should've just pushed the red sauce to the side to reduce the pain but hindsight is 20/20. Regardless, it just didn't taste the same as the food cart that I came to love.

Crumbles of beef that came on Regular Platter

I hadn't had Halal Guys in years and thought it would be a great treat. I was highly disappointed as they've started skimping on the meat and it looks like crumbles instead of slices. I also chose no rice and they didn't compensate in anyway so my plate was half empty. I picked out the crumbs of meat just to take a pic and show how pathetic they're servings have become. Sadly, I won't be ordering again!

First of all, I do not recommend ordering online / pre-ordering your food because you'll have to wait more than 2x as long for your food versus ordering right then and there. They're not very tidy about it neither. I am comparing this place to the usual halal street vendor carts - This place is definitely cleaner since they do have an actual store, bathrooms and water available for themselves to clean. Food wise, I feel like the vendor carts make better better seasoned food.

First time at this location, a line out the door as expected. They were open late and they actually had beverages and dessert which would be next to impossible to have at the cart on 53rd street. They were fast friendly and worked well together. Food every bit as delicious at the other NYC locations. For sure will be back!

Order: - Chicken platter (4/5) Pros: - Large portions - Comes with pita bread on the side - Individual packets of the white and hot sauce so you can control how much sauce you want to put on your food - Brick and mortar location of the infamous cart Cons: - Chicken was a little bland. I'm assuming this is just this location as I've have other locations before and it didn't taste like this Overall: You can't go wrong with Halal Guys. Some people think it's overrated, but there is a reason why it is so popular

I recently visited this location. I love the fact that its so bright inside and very clean. When i walked in, i went directly towards the back to order my food. I asked for a beef bowl to go. I guess the guy didnt hear me because he gave me chicken. I didn't complain and just took it. The guy at the register was really nice. He told me a few times that i could go back and have the guy remake my plate. I didnt bother to because 1. It was already made and 2. I didnt mind having the chicken. The food was really good. I love being able to have packets of white sauce and hot sauce. It is alot of food so I always have left overs to reheat so having the extra sauce is amazing. The chicken plate came with yellow rice, tomatoes, lettuce and pita bread. I had them add white sauce on top. Overall i cant wait to return. I definitely want to return soon and try the beef.

I'm not sure if prices went up at the actual cart but I felt like $12 for a large halal platter and a bottle water is way more than I've ever spent for Halal Guys or Halal in general. Still, you do get a pretty substantial portion. My stomach wasn't too happy with me the next day but I knew what I was getting myself in to. I didn't eat all day and at 9pm when you're walking by on 1st avenue, the smell really lures you in. I managed to eat the entire platter in one sitting and was practically out of breath when I finished. There's not much to say that hasn't been said already in the reviews but when it comes to fast casual Halal food, in my opinion, no one does it better. If your in the mood to chow down on a ton of rice, chicken, lamb, white and hot sauce, this is your place. Having this brick and mortar location in union square is such a good move. The line was almost half-way to the door but it moved super quick. The next time you're in the mood for something hardy, meaty, saucy, and guaranteed to put you in a semi-vegetative state or a super relaxed mood, this is your spot.

Want to know if the food in the restaurant is the same as the food served from the food trucks throughout the city?

it is but get from the carts instead. they charge $2 more than the cart and give way less food than the cart.

So thoughtful, and such a great touch to start the evening for us. We decided to order the family style menu and we enjoyed the whole dinner. Walking in, it's a stunning restaurant and on this night, not too crowded which made us wonder why they would seat us next to the servers station away from dozens of much nicer tables. Note that I booked through Open Table where I have Gold status which I thought meant you get a better table. Next fail, we wanted to start with a Mediterranean dip, but they only offer that if you go with a $39 tray with multiple dips. Not something a party of two would be able to east, so we skipped apps altogether. Sucks too, because several tables had it and it liked amazing, just too much for two. For dinner I had the Yemeni Au Police Kebab, Filet Mignon which was absolutely delicious. The peppercorn Hawaii really sweetened the meat's flavor. So high marks for the steak. My wife had two small dishes which she wasn't as thrilled with, Grilled Artichokes which were too dry for her liking and Manti, which she liked. Main takeaways. Very pricey, beautiful atmosphere (if you get a nice table) and maybe a place that's better for a group than a couple.

Buns were incredibly good - a close second to a joint in Chicago we ate at last weekend. Succulent meat, plenty of sauce, and just the usual pillowy bun. The edamame didn't seem spicy at first - then my face melted. Still good but a deep burning spiciness to them as advertised. For my entree I got the beef miso ramen, adding corn and an egg. The corn wasn't just a pile of kernels - but a side slice of a cob. Cool presentation. Beef was good and the broth soothed my soul. Top 10 ramen places I've been - well done.

They had a variety of sake and beer options. The inside is small but turnaround is fairly quick. Lots of two seaters and a large table that we were able to snag after just a few minutes of waiting. There was also bar seating. Pretty dark inside to add to the ambiance for a quick date or catch up with friends. I went for the chicken and veggie sandwiches, both dressed with a mango lime sauce that genuinely were very flavorful. The tomato aioli on the side was another win. And the fries?
