This location near UCF was open for takeout and I was picking up meals for three students. There were three employees that I saw and social distancing was being enforced. It was HOT they didn't have air conditioning and I felt like I was in there forever as their credit cards were having issues and I had to try a few before it would function which was a hassle because I walked in with one in my hand that was perfectly useable and had to go to my car to get my bag. They are open for takeout during these covid19 times and while I usually go to the area to study to justify the long drive, Johnny made my trip worth it by packing my platters full of meats and spotting me a dollar so I didn't have to break a $20! Definitely my favorite Mediterranean fast casual place for meat and rice platters. The chicken is always moist and they give you plenty. And they have spicy chicken which was delicious. Their gyro meat is the same you'll find anywhere. I'm not a fan of their falafels but maybe I just don't like falafels. Their rice is AMAZING! very moist. Never overcooked. Never dried out. It's bright orange and has a mild spice blend in it and it's delicious. Then you can get a variety of fresh vegetable sides. the white sauce is perfect to pull all the flavors together and let you mix everything up. And the red sauce damn spicy! We ordered two platters and two sandwiches with hummus and two drinks for $45 dollars so we had to pay an additional $15. Full disclosure - Completely new experience for me. I have never been to the NY food cart and while I have had traditional gyros with lamb before I don't think I ever had a meal someplace that would be considered Halal. I opted for the sandwich gyro and went with the chicken. Very tasty and you get a LOT of meat and veggies stuffed in there. Especially for the price too ! The white sauce of course was tasty and they got my food quickly and it was hot. The fries..not so much. As happy as I was with my sandwich choice I was equally disappointed with the side. The fries were not hot and they seemed to me like nothing more than luke warm version of frozen grocery store fries. That's ok. The gyro was great. Next time I will just go with that and pass on the side items. The staff was super friendly and I was asked no less than twice if I wanted more white sauce. I don't get it. I have to be missing something. What is the hype all about? The food was okay, but not even close to as amazing as it was made out to be. The meat type, to me, wasn't that big of a deal but the flavor was"meh" at best. The baba ghanouj was also just fair. Not the worst I've ever had, but nowhere near the best either. I wouldn't order either of these items again. On the flip side, their falafel were pretty damn good. I am almost positive they were not freshly made in the house, but whatever mixture they were using was great. If I were to come back, I would get falafel everything! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and oozing with great flavor and texture. Doubly good with their white sauce drizzled on. There are a ton of better Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants in town where you can get these same food options. My family and I ordered 2 full combo platters, falafels, and a gyro. I get all of the sauces, it's a good mix. The hot sauce isn't as spicy anymore. The beef and falafel were dry. They made the 2 platters separate from my sandwich and made us pay separate. When I asked the girl about my gyro, she said she was making it after. I remember the days when they were still getting their shop ready at the Waterford Lakes Plaza and I would shamelessly stalk their website for updates on when they would be opening. According to the website, they are a big deal in New York, especially the 'famous' white sauce. Having personally had the pleasure of enjoying Lebanese food in NY and being impressed, to say I was excited to try out halal guys is an understatement, but; perhaps I was expecting too much... Allow me to explain. The Good: You are greeted by very friendly workers (at least I was) who explain how the ordering system works and it's very much like chipotle in which you can choose either the platter or sandwich and then pick out your toppings. Everything tasted fresh, especially the vegetables, and all things considered, the prices are reasonable considering quantity. The Not So Good: Apparently all toppings excluding peppers and onions are .50 cents extra, so what started out as an 8.99 platter ended up being 10.58; yikes!!! And these were simple toppings like olives and jalapeños which I though would have been included in my falafel (vegetarian) platter automatically. The portion was good, but to be honest; the meal in its entirety lacked that Mediterranean flavor I was expecting. There's another halal shop nearby on colonial where when you take a bite out of their food, it's like the song Humood - kun anta starts playing in my mouth, but that didn't happen for me here I'm sorry to say. It was bland, and I had to season it at home with hot sauce and garlic powder to make it palatable. The most disappointing meal I've had in a long time! I have easy standards for food and came here because the great reviews. It was extremely bland, half the bowl was lettuce so it was oddly lukewarm at best. We saw them cut the beef gyro meat from frozen, the bland sauce is out of a package, the lettuce comes out of a bag, so do the pitas. The gyro beef was so dry, it became dark (see photos). Olives are an extra charge, so are jalapeños, so are hot sauce packets. The best thing we had here was the fries which were also prepared from frozen. I did not have much of my meal despite coming in really hungry. And the $8.99 regular bowl is A TON of food, definitely enough for 2 meals - it comes with your choice of meat, yellow rice, tomatoes and shredded lettuce, and your choice of toppings. Unfortunately, where the meat packs huge flavor, everything else falls flat. The yellow rice has 0 flavor. The only free toppings are chopped raw green peppers and onions. It costs $1 just to add hummus to your bowl, and $.49 for olives. It's not a big upcharge, it's just the principle of it - in a world of "build your bowl", they fall extremely short with options. Sauce choices are white sauce, hot sauce, or bbq. The white sauce is decent, but again, kind of bland. If you're going to visit, order the $6.99 pita, which is allllllll about the meat, where they really shine. While it's a lot less food, it will be much more flavorful as it's not weighed down by the other bland offerings. read more

Being a NY Native, Halal guys is a staple of the nightlife post club food. The line gets really long and for good reason, it's just a great meal for a good price. Granted I might not have been completely sober every time I ate it but I do remember the few times I was sober and enjoyed it thoroughly. Just a great blend of flavor and portion. Fast forward many years later and now Halal Guys is a bonafide chain with locations everywhere. I had just found out about this location from a friend and was surprised I did not know about it opening up about a year and half ago (or something like that). Anyways, I HAD to try it since I do miss NYC at times and this would have been a great trip down memory lane. Upon entry, the first thing I noticed is that the brand has done a total 180 and has clearly moved on from its grassroots style cart. The restaurant was clean, fresh and modern. It had great pictures of the original cart that I went to visit during my 20's and it was fun to tell my friend about all the adventures I had prior to going to Halal Guys to finish the night. Customer Service is friendly and spot on but the highlight is the food. It tastes exactly as I remembered and I was very impressed. The White sauce is still as good as it ever was and eating this meal brought back memories.
