Finally got to try the Halal Guys today. Figured the hype from them opening up last year died down. I went online to check out their menu and saw they had online ordering. In case there was a line, I decided to go this route and was able to schedule a pick-up time that worked for me since I was also going to be running some errands on my lunch break. I ordered the small gyro platter for $7.99. When I arrived at my pick-up time, the instructions on the website said to go straight to the check-out counter and tell them I had an online order. There were about 3-4 guys in line ordering food so it looked like I skipped them but I think they realized what was going on. I thought it was a little weird that when I told the lady my name thinking she was going to pull out my food from the counter, but she began to actually make it from scratch. She must've seen the order come thru earlier and memorized it because she made it super quick and didn't ask me any questions as to what it was or what I wanted on it. She automatically packed me a packet of the white sauce and red sauce too. The white sauce packet is about 4 times as large as the red sauce packet so I asked for extra red which cost me an extra 60 cents. I should have read the reviews on how hot the sauce was because after tasting it, one packet would have been fine. I couldn't wait to get back to work to taste everything! I immediately drizzled some white sauce on the gyro and tasted it. MMMM it tasted exactly as I had hoped. The meat was very tender, seasoned well, and the sauce was light and creamy like a tzatziki but thinner. Then, I drizzled a little bit of the red sauce on the meat and tasted it and whoa it was really hot!! I had to take some more white sauce and drizzle it on the meat and take another bite with some tomatoes to cool off my taste buds! All in all, it was a positive experience. For the price, it feel like the portion was appropriate. The taste and quality of the ingredients were fresh so I will definitely come back again. I want to go for dinner next time so I can have thai rolled ice cream for dessert at 5FX which is next door :) read more

OMG OMG finally Halal Guys has brought a piece of New York to Orlando for me!!! Halal Guys is soooooo popular in NYC they are found on about every corner in NYC and the lunch or late night after the club lines are always crazy long. First of all the location is great right next to Waterford lakes shopping center, only thing I wish it was closer to my location but maybe that's for a reason. When you walk into this place all of the staff is super friendly, greets you right away and always ask have you been here before to better assist you with ordering. The food here is awesome nothing like NYC but beggars can't be choosers I am so grateful Halal Guys has opened a place here in Orlando that I can appreciate and reminisce about NYC and enjoy the great food. The gyros are sooo good a must have, but my go to are the platters the beef and chicken over rice just wish they had lamb but it's ok. It's not terrible, just underwhelming. Meh... is just about the right description for this world famous hyped up Halal Guys Orlando installation. I don't spend a lot of time in Waterfold Lakes area and since my wife and I were going to be in the area, we wanted to try Halal Guys. The location is in a somewhat dead plaza and actually looked closed from the outside. You could still smell the delicious grill aroma from the outside, so we were good to go in. The food, however is precooked. The gyro meat was already pre-cut and warming on the flat top. There was rotating slab of meat roasting slowly on a spick in its own juices. My falafel was also warmed on that flat top. My falafel was kinda mushy and the gyro meat was very generic. Overall, the food is pretty average even with its world famous white sauce. For my first time at Halal Guys, I'm concluding with a "does not live up to the hype" It's probably not like this at other locations like in New York where they became populat, but at this branch run by college students... it's just meh... read more

Was pleasantly surprised by this little shop. You order at the counter and they prepare your meal in front of you so you can customize it. We got the combo chicken/gyro meat combo. It comes with rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and then you can add some veggies and sauces. WARNING: take it easy on the red sauce. It is incredibly spicy. I had them add extra and it blew my socks off. Besides the spiciness- everything was delicious. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Great experience overall! Also- very affordable. Great place overall. Nice and clean. I worked in NYC for a long time and the cart on 53rd and 6th was my SPOT. This place comes in close! I may not have gone to the original location in NYC, but upon trying this place, I am satisfied. To me, it's like the Middle Eastern version of Chipotle. Limited menu but done well. The best part is the portion size. Even for a regular platter, you are getting a ton of food that will fill you up at a cost of $8. What a steal in my opinion. I got the gyro platter today. The gyro meat was well seasoned and had a really good texture to it. The combination of their creamy white yoghurt based sauce with their fiery red sauce really made for an excellent combination that lifted and complements all the flavors and textures in the dish. I've been waiting for this place to open for a while. They officially opened on September 1 but I heard they had multiple soft openings and tastings too. I've been to New York many times and I always get halal guys from the original cart. Although, it's not completely the same as the original halal guys cart, it does satisfy the halal cravings without going all the way to New York for it. One down side though is that they gyro here is beef gyro. In New York it's Lamb. I always get the combo and it's a good serving too. Make sure you get enough white sauce on the plate!! If it's not enough it's not good enough! But don't drench it or else you might as well drink the sauce. Be careful with the hot sauce. It's actually hot. read more

This was everything I expected it to be & brought me back to the first time I had it sitting by a trash can in front of Rockefeller Center thinking I was in heaven. (& also when white sauce was free and everyone took it by the gallons, but that's irrelevant). I got the mixed platter with chicken & gyro and the meat was perfectly seasoned. I normally don't eat too much lamb, so their gyro ratio fit me well since it was mostly beef, so that might be a drawback to some but nonetheless amazing. Rice wasn't dry, the pita was soft and pillowy, and the small platter was enough to fill me up. I also got the side of babaganoush for my pita, and could eat it straight up. Like I mentioned before, sauce is no longer up for grabs if you want to drown yourself in it like I do, but I didn't mind paying a couple cents more for it since I'm extra just like my white sauce. Service for a fast service restaurant was outstanding. Different staff kept coming around to see if you were alright (and!) with extra bottles of white sauce since they already know you can never have too much of it so I hope they'll do this forever. I get hesitant when companies began expanding and franchising since that's where consistency and quality cuts short. I was surprised they didn't open their location near the attractions and the touristy side of town, but just like people travel around the world to eat from their cart, they could travel a couple more miles near UCF for this. I've been anticipating this moment for a while now but am excited to have them finally open in Orlando. They'll forsure see plenty more of me in the future! read more

So far, this place is pretty cool. They managed to keep the grand opening under control as everyone flocked to try the meat that, once upon a time, could only be enjoyed from a New York hot dog cart! I went alone to pick up to-go food for the family. I was not sure what to expect, but I jumped in the out-the-door line and tippy-toed to peek at the food prep as I waited for my turn. I had already chosen what I wanted from the menu posted from the soft opening, but sometimes seeing the food in person could change a person's mind. I got up to the spit-guard counter and looked around. It was pretty simple, which is probably what made the long queue move at a rather steady pace. As I watched the mountain of chicken cook on the grill, I ordered two combo platters with the included accompaniments of rice, lettuce and tomato. I saw the extras and added Kalamata olives to one of the combos before the food prepper informed me that it was $.49 extra. Ugh! Ok at $.12 per olive, I just kept them on one combo. So the white sauce, everyone was asking to drown their plates in it. To make it look like I knew what I was doing, asked the same. On the other hand, the red (hot) sauce, I asked for on the side LUCKILY! I'll get to that later. Anyways, they asked what else I wanted and I said that was it. I arrived to the counter and I asked for Baklava, Baba Ganouj, and Hummus. I didn't know that was supposed to be ordered with the food, too. Oops! My order got separated in the commotion of the food line, but it eventually came together at the register. Moving right along...I was offered a rewards card and I excitedly accepted. The cashier mumbled something was to his right. I assumed the forks and what not. I grabbed napkins & utensils to throw in my heavy bag of gold and I was on my way! I revealed the goods to the family and we choked down. I shared a combo with my daughter and hubby had his own and we both ended up with leftovers. I added a squirt of red sauce to the corner of my hubby's order to try it out and thank God that I didn't ask them to hash it all on top because that stuff was FLAMING! Every time hubster got a bite with the condiment, he was distraught. Other than that, everything was yummy! I'm picky with the way my meat is cooked because I hate dry meat. This was perfectly juicy. I realized when I got home to register my rewards card that I didn't get a receipt. I think that's what the cashier said was over to his right on the other counter. Was super excited to see one close to me than taking a flight to NYC! In NYC this Iconic sidecart is my 1am-5am drunk food to eat to get me through my weekend. It's located by UCF so they should do very well with the yuppies and college kids. The prices are a bit odd for $1 more you get a bigger size but I think that's all marketing at it's finest. Upon entering the place we were warmly greeted. It has a set up similar to Chipotle where you order and then you can pick what you put in your platter. It is definitely not the same exact way it is for the original but they do have the 'White Sauce' and at the end of the day that is the only thing that makes or breaks that meal. When asked what I thought as I took my first few bites, the three words I used were "unimpressive" and "nothing special." I got a chicken platter/bowl, and it was flavorless and not so appealing to the eye. The menu photos show green salads with garnish- this was literally just iceberg lettuce with a yellowish hue. They tossed on some completely bland chicken and some rice with a bit of flavor, then asked what garnish I wanted. The extent of the garnish was green peppers or onions (both free) and kalamata olives or jalapeños (both an extra charge). I asked why the salad looked so blah and the response was, "We are out of tomatoes." I added white sauce from hearing good things about it. That was nothing special, either. Not until I put the hot sauce on the bowl was there any noticeable flavor. The falafel was disappointing with no seasoning, and the falafel sauce was the equivalent of dipping into milky-water. Additionally, they did not put a lid on the falafel dip in the to-go container. Having eaten a variety of Arab and Middle Eastern food that is delicious and full of bold flavors along with tasty sauces, this definitely at the bottom of the list as a poor and disappointing representation. read more

AWFUL. COMPLETE RIP-OFF It's a no-frills fast food version of a halal/kebab, with a stripped down menu. Which is fine by me. I don't mind conceding a lot of frills, even a little quality, if it means a lot of savings. But just my gyro platter alone was $9.57, and I got the small one. For that you get cheap sub-par food, to put it nicely. The gyro tasted like what I would imagine cat food tastes like. The baba ganoush was really bad too, and I had to pay extra for it. The only good part was the rice. You don't even get really good service. I came in just before 10:30pm. They had chairs on top of the tables, and people were still eating. I asked them what time they were closing. The girl working there didn't even know. Finally after consulting one another, one of the staff declared it was 11pm. There were 5 staff behind the counter, all of them cleaning up. It took several minutes before any of them turned around and started serving the line of customers. Granted, I get it that it's getting near closing time and everyone wants to go home. Honestly, save your money, get yourself some Ramen noodles, it still tastes a lot better than this. I would like to start off by saying the food here is actually good and reasonably priced. I went close to closing today at approximately 9:50 PM and it seemed as though they actually do work until the time of closing. There was one thing that definitely stood out that I did not like at all was there was a woman at the register sweeping and I assume getting ready for closing, she put down the broom put on plastic gloves and began to make my food but she never washed her hands. I then asked her where she going to wash her hands she looked confused and stated that she put on gloves and kept making my food which I felt was very thoughtless and nasty. Came here for their grand opening. It was super fun! We were greeted with a gift box that contained a Halal guys t-shirt. Super excited to rock it around town. We ordered the veggie platter. I'm not a falafel person, so I just ate the rice and white sauce which were both very good. The fries were good as well. The customer service was awesome-- even though there were tons of people, the staff was very friendly, handing out bottles of water and always smiling.
