I'm feeling 3 to 3 1/2 stars for The Halal Guys in Teterboro. If you haven't been to this location, expect the NYC experience translated into a brick and mortar restaurant with a Chipotle-style line set up. I went with the gyro sandwich, reasonable at 6.99 but be prepared for upsells on the line (fries, hummus, extra sauce, etc). The sandwich came on a cool and doughy pita, the filling had a good portion of meat but the lettuce and tomatoes were finely chopped and pretty lifeless. It's a nice try but I think you can get a better gyro from the average Greek lunch spot. Plenty of tables inside and out. I may go back again and try the chicken and rice platter, but for now, 3 stars for my first visit. read more

I agree with some of things pointed out by the critical reviews. Portion sizes are a bit smaller while being more expensive and the taste is slightly different from the street carts. I personally find that the chicken tastes pretty much the same, but the rice is slightly different. The spices aren't as pronounced. Also, the sauce situation needs to be sorted out. However, the proximity of this store to my home, offering a platter that is pretty close to the street carts, overcomes the higher price and sauce situation. Helpful tip: if your taking your platter to go, you can get two white sauce packets and one hot sauce packet. Same as the street carts. I've visited on three occasions so far. Two were late at night, with very little line and once around 7pm, with a very big line. There is a good amount of seating available, and more seating along the counters, wrapping around the front of the store. Food is served assembly line style and you can adjust your platter according to your tastes. read more

I as many others had my first platter experience in the wee drunk hours of the morning standing between 53rd and 6th in NYC. Pretty much you wait in the longest yet fastest moving line of your life pay the guy $5 and you receive a platter full of goodness and douse it in white sauce and a dot of hot sauce. My friends and I arrived at the new location in Teterboro last Wednesday around 7 PM and approached the longest line ever, not only was it out the door but people were snaked inside the restaurant as well. I will say that the line moved pretty fast and there were many people greeting us as we worked our way through the line. Once we approached the serving area I looked at the menu and noticed they offer two different size platters a small and a regular. I decided on getting the small because I wasn't starving and I must say that the portion was just ok. When I got a platter from the cart in the city the price was cheaper and the portions were larger.. and like others have stated there is a slight difference in taste. I ordered a small gyro platter and a side of falafel. The man behind the counter let me pick out what I wanted to add to my platter and I decided on onions. There was really nowhere to sit so we decided to take it to go and got two white sauces and a hot sauce to go in their little pre-wrapped packets. I have to say the falafel were wack and the gyro just didn't taste the same to me like I remembered and neither did the white sauce. The hot sauce was still consistently hot as hell and made my eyes tear. To me my spot is still Juicy platters. The prices are better for what you get, the food tastes better and their white sauce in my opinion is better. I will give The Halal Guys another shot later down the line once the hype blows over but as of rite now they just don't compare to Juicy Platters in my opinion. read more

So I'm going to be that person that bursts everyone's happy bubbly thoughts on what to expect from this place. For almost ten years I have been a HUGE fan of their main cart in NYC. So obviously, I was beyond excited to find out they opened an establishment five minutes from where I live. I went yesterday after my softball game with my friends to check it out. I expected there to be a huge line (which there was, but that didn't bother me one bit). I waited on line for about 20 minutes total which wasn't too bad. While I was on the line I was looking at their menu. They do not sell any lamb #1 And #2- which is big, they charge for extra white sauce. This made no sense because after you pay for your meal, there is a girl who goes around offering more white sauce for free. They did however offer other food items such a hummus, falafel and dessert. The prices were also a little high compared to the cart in New York which is also fine because I guess they figure those in NJ no longer have to pay the bridge toll to get their fix. What I did have a problem with was their portion size. My friends and I ordered a large combo each. It was much smaller than the one in NY and literally, more than half of it was lettuce; hardly any rice and very light on the meats. The chicken had absolutely no flavor what so ever which was also a huge disappointment. Going in, I knew it wouldn't exactly the same but I didn't think the difference would be as far off as it was. It was a total letdown. We also tried the hummus was also just "okay." Inside there were plenty of places to sit and the location is in a nice shopping center with plenty of parking. The entire staff at this establishment was VERY nice. But unfortunately, there are other places on NJ that can give me my fix that offers bigger portions and even better food. read more

Last week during their soft opening would have given them 5 stars hands down. Line was moving well and efficiently. I was greeted at the grill with a smile and a friendly hello. Beef gyro was juicy and portions were very good. Also, the owner was visible and coming around tables. I was so impressed with my visit decided to come back during their regular opening this week. Wow what a regression from their soft opening. Line moved slowly, workers on the line seem flustered and no greeting this time around just a "what can I get you?" Beef gyro was dry and skimpy portions this week. After my first visit, I was running back for more but after this second visit I may give them some time to get their hands used to the crowds. read more

Dropped by Halal guys since my boyfriend was craving it. I got the regular combo platter while he got the burrito. This rating is mostly about the burrito since I thoroughly enjoy their platters. The burrito was a bit unnecessary, especially the cheesy sauce. Don't get the cheesy sauce. It makes it much more greasy feeling than it needs to be. If anything stick to their white and red sauce, but the best option is to stick to the platter! read more

I came in last night for the soft opening and am happy to report that, as expected, it's "just like the street carts". I've been a fan of the Halal Guys for a while now and working in Manhattan I'm fortunate that I can swing by 53rd and 6th and get some whenever I want. But now that I can drive 10 mins and get my fix? Even better! I went with my usual order - chicken platter - but added a side of falafel. Everything tasted just like it does from the cart. Not sure why this location only has 3 stars. My husband and I came here for the check-in promotion to try the burritos, and are so glad we did! This was the dinner we didn't even know we needed. This Halal Guys is definitely different than the one in Newark. I like that they give you the option to add "topping" like green peppers, onions, olives, and much much more (not that I eat all of that but options are nice fro anyone). If they were closer, I would definitely visit here more often. Once you add the green pepper and onions, there definitely is a lot more flavor to the food. The restaurant is clean and has a lot of seating. The one bathroom that I went into was pretty clean, but my boyfriend said the one he went into wasn't as clean. Being that this is now a food chain, you can't expect it to taste exactly like the food stand in New York. Because it's in a shopping area, it isn't hard to find parking like it is at the location in Newark. The service was good but not great, but I guess the food makes up for it. We went on a Sunday night so the line wasn't too bad. I was torn between 3 stars and 4 stars. 3 Stars because I felt they could have been more friendly, and as mentioned in other reviews, the portion size does seem tad smaller, even if you get the regular and if you get the "salad" with it, forget it, the amount of rice they give you is sad. 4 stars for the flavor the rice had. I ultimately chose 4 stars because the food was pretty good and the service wasn't too bad (but could have been better). Don't hesitate to give it a try just don't have too high expectations. I have been a fan of the Halal guys at 53rd St. for as long as I can remember. When they opened up their 14th St. location it was closer to my office so life got better. I had to try that location it was great. When I heard a Teterboro location was opening I got excited. But as I am I had to try it. From the time I pulled into the parking I was smiling. The line was out the door of course but the line was well maintained with security and everything. They even had umbrellas for the line in case of rain. The line was long but moved quickly. I spoke with a security man and he was very nice. I was approached by a beautiful lady and a few gorgeous men that seem to either be owners managers or just truly attentive staff. All conversations were lively and smiles from everyone. The restaurant is new so yeah is clean and well lit. The parking lot is also easy to navigate. My food order was fast and accurate. I had the beef with rice platter. It comes with a salad and some sauces. I am always worried a new location won't have the right "taste" but I really had nothing to worry about today. The food was delicious. I love the white and hot sauce from the halal guys. The hot sauce is extremely spicey so be careful or just be like me and eat it till you sweat!!! It is amazing when mixed with the white sauce, rice, and beef!! Ok I may be a big fan of this place so I highly recommend anyone reading this to stop reading now and eat at the halal guys today. The restaurant is very clean, the staff works really fast, and the food always tastes fresh. Just like the one in the city. Great spot for something quick to eat. They have tables so you can eat in. There is a lot of buzz around this place and I haven't had them in a long time so I had to try it. There is usually a long line out the door and they don't take orders ahead for pickup so I ordered delivery via Uber Eats. Pretty effortless, came in 30min, food was still warm. The food is OK, I don't think it lives up to the hype. Ordered the chicken platter and the meat wasn't seasoned well, I actually thought the rice was shredded carrots for a second. Juicy Platters does a better job on both fronts. Also, they give you a few small pieces of pita. Halal Guys is mostly known for their white sauce and sure - they lived up to it. They threw in a few big bags of white sauce, which was great, but because the chicken wasn't seasoned, I had to use a ton of the sauce to make the chicken taste like anything. Bummer. I tried Halal Guys years ago when they were just a food cart in midtown and I remember them being amazing back then. Now, they aren't anything special. I don't recommend it. read more

I have come to this halal guys a few times for their chicken and rice platters. They definitely have the hottest red sauce Among all other platters spots. The quality seems good for a fast food place. The meat is constantly being prepared by the employees. This time I choice to take advantage of the new burrito which is basically the chicken, gyro, or mixed platter in a wrap. I got 2 mixed burritos since they had the yelp deal for bogo. I choice to get the burritos with white sauce, and red sauce on the side. They also have white cheese sauce option, which I got on the side as well, since I wanted to control the amount in the burrito. The white cheese sauce is kicked up with some black pepper and other spices. I was not a huge fan of it, and I am glad I got it on the side. I think it's fine just the original way with traditional white sauce and hot sauce. read more

My first love for platters, like most, spawned at the birth place of this restaurant on 53rd and 6th in NYC. When hearing about the opening of the restaurants over a year ago i was hesitant to try it in thinking it would lose its dirty grease truck roots that made it so good! Coming here for a Yelp event i got get my hands on a mixed platter before the grand opening. I can say without hesitation, and very much to my surprise, it tastes just like it should! It looked the same and tasted exactly how i would have gotten it years ago in NYC. My only gripe with the place is there is no lamb option! i guess beef is a better choice for the masses. Although there are similar places like this popping up all over, The Halal Guys are a well known name here in the metro area and I'm happy to see one just a few minutes from my house. Stopped in for lunch and got a beef and chicken gyro, first time so I asked for the white sauce and hot sauce on the side... wow good thing I did their hot sauce phew is on Fire you need to be careful if you don't like spicy foods. They do not have any salt or pepper as I wanted to add alittle to many pita. I probably would try again, and maybe even bring my own salt and pepper and some franks red hot. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would ! This is a disgusting, unsanitary place to eat at! I ordered large 3 mixed platters, and one small mixed platter. when i saw them slicing the gyro meat it was the darkest shade of gray. They also charged me for 4 large mixed platters and also charged me the small one instead of 3 large and 1 small. So i payed $14 extra. Also, while i was eating i had found a piece of something as hard as a rock. I walked up to the counter to tell them about issues i had and they said they were going to deposit the money back in my bank account cause i paid with a credit card. THEY NEVER DID!!! I also talked to them about the bone i had found in my food and they said that was NORMAL! I cant even explain how much disgusted i get when i walk into this store. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Food is mediocre. I only come here because it's convenient and I need it to satisfy my fix for the platters in NYC. BUT, this place doesn't come close. Portions significantly smaller, increase prices, meat is bland as hell. I've been coming here ever since its opening and the quality has declined week by week. The place rationalizes that since the line is so long, they can give less portions and produce shittier quality food. Pretty bad to the point that I won't be coming here too frequently and that's saying a lot since halal guys platter is my 2nd favorite food in the world. Only reason I been coming in the beginning was because you get double points during first 30 days of the membership card you sign up for. read more

I never get tired of this place. One thing I have to say is that the taste doesn't compare to the 5th ave location in the city but it's still reasonably close. The redeeming factor is that this location has a rewards card so every time you reach 50 points you earn a FREE platter! The lines move pretty quick and food is fresh. You can also buy a bottle of white sauce to take home :) UPDATE: Had to change my review to two stars because they're app isn't working and they don't let me use my number to collect my points! read more

I love The Halal Guys, and I'll follow them around the world. This particular location was unfortunately just average. The service was rather slow and seemed like it was inefficient--there were like 6-7 people on the front when there could have been 3. The changing of hands seems to take up more time than anything. I got the small chicken platter, and the chicken weirdly tasted like a burnt grill, as another reviewer said. Some bites didn't, but some did, and it was a gamble to take each bite. Some were yummy, some were butt. There were also a few pieces that were still pink in the center. Chicken thigh can be weird to cook, I understand, but I feel like as an establishment they shouldn't be having that problem. How does it taste burnt but look undercooked? I came here on a Sunday at 6pm and the line was pretty long and slow moving, but the employees were pleasant. As I understand it, they just opened in mid- to late-June. I think they're still ironing out the kinks with staffing and cooking and customer service. I had a similar experience when the halal guys near my hometown opened up. read more

My hubs liked his beef gyro sandwich and that's saying a lot. I however ordered the beef and chicken combo platter... chicken had some weird hard pieces, maybe small bones? And the rice was so, um... not great. Didn't want too much white sauce so asked for it one the side not knowing I was paying extra for it, oh well. I really really want to support this place, esp bc who else is sick of quick food options being the same ol same ol... can ya improve your rice grain, LOL... no serious. read more

**********SCAM ALART********* This place is a scam. We went there late at night on a Friday. We got two beef with rice and the bill was like around $25.58. So we asked, "why is it so high?" The cashier said, "it is because of double meat." There was no extra meat, it was a normal amount of meat (This is my 10+ times to dine here). We never told him we wanted extra. So now the casher left and the person who was servings us came to help. He gave us $3 back. But on the bill, he charged us $6 for extra meat. So after a few tries, we finally got our money back. Plz, look at your bill every time you buy anything at this place. All the employees seemed like they were all involved. It was not a simple mistake. Meh. I have a fond memory of Halal Guys in New York City, so when I heard they were coming to Teterboro NJ I was ecstatic. Now, this is usually the problem I have with most food places. They start out small serving AMAZING food and when they expand their quality drops. That's how I feel about the Halal Guys in Teterboro. The meat was dry, the rice was dry and you don't have a happy me :( I don't know if I'll go back with so many new food options popping up in Northern NJ. read more

I have eaten here a half dozen times and it's not bad . The service is good as the line moves quick but the food is not warm enough. Just tell them what you want and don't want or else you will get everything. I ordered via UBER EATS and it seems there is a little scam going on . The menu prices in the store are not the same when you order from UBER . Yes They prices are higher and even against GRUBHUB. It's not the money , it's really the principle !!! If they have a disclaimer, I would not mind . They think everyone is stupid . The Portions are a lot less than when you are at the place . read more

I used to go to the halal guys every chance that I got, which was often. I just visited the store for a mobile order where I got 2 beef gyro platters for my wife and I, as well as a side of falafel. When I got home I tried the falafel and I must say it was very chewy and dry, didn't really care for it and though "well their platters can compensate" I tried the gyro meat which tasted odd, couldn't pinpoint it, but noticed the rice was bland, pita bread was soggy and in all honesty it was a waste of money... what made matters worse is that "odd" tasting gyro meat gave me food poisoning.. needless to say I won't be returning to halal guys unless it's certain that they get their act together read more

Super impressed at how perfect it was compared to the cart. Went to the one in Chicagoland Suburbs and it was nothing like this. I'm grateful for this location. I'm grateful it tastes the same.
