It's a sad day for me. I used to get halal guys here multiple times a week, but I'm beyond over it. The platters have gone up in price while the portions have gone down. Not to mention they're greedy when it comes to honoring rewards. I could forgive all of that if the food was at least good, but the quality has deteriorated as well. Food is dried out and old, they forget sauce and/or pita half the time, and it's just generally borderline inedible leaving me feeling ripped off every single time. As The Who once said, we won't get fooled again. Edit: since I can't figure out how to reply to the comment below, I'll add to this that I did submit a complaint to the email address you listed in the reply. I mentioned all of those concerns plus the fact that they gave me the wrong receipt so I couldn't redeem my rewards. They gave me rewards points and didn't answer again when I asked why they didn't address anything I said. I went back today to use all my rewards points and be done with halal guys forever, and shocker, they forgot the sauce again, the chicken was terrible, and they wanted an extra dollar for a normal amount of rice. ***Read 1st: (Good) Hot Sauce Rant Below As you may or may not know, The Halah Guys are from NYC serving up yummy Mediterranean platters from their cart which now expandes to brick and mortar stores through out NJ. This location recently opened up near my town. I attended the soft opening and have been back several times after that. The food is really good and being a vegetarian, falafels are one of my favs! They are slightly different from the NYC cart, such as smaller pita slices and the falafels are a lot smaller but I don't mind since I'm not spending 15 bucks just to enter the city. The staff has been more than friendly, I have not had a neg experience with them. I held several conversations with them and the are nothing but helpful explaining the menu or ingredients. Now for the people complaining about long lines or being crowded, you have to understand 2 factors: 1) they just opened up, which means people far and wide will be going to want to try this place, go on a off peak time if you're in a rush 2) if a restaurant is busy, isn't that a good sign of good food? It's def worth the wait! Lastly, the hot sauce. Oh yes, hot sauce, forget about the awesome white creamy sauce. My fav hands down is the hot sauce. It's not for the faint of heart, I repeat, there hot sauce is no joke! I read reviews that there food is way too spicy! Really? If you didn't want spicy, don't ask for the hot sauce! One line of it should be enough to make your tounge tingle! I love it for the simple fact, any place I go, they're "hot" sauce are water down or not spicy at all! This place, has a really nice volcano kick to it. I think there hot sauce is made with ghost peppers, but don't quote me on it. If you want to try spicy, try a line 1st or get a packet and work your way up, me personally I go crazy and add the same amount of white sauce as I do hot sauce because it that damn good. read more

STAY AWAY. THIS IS NOT THE REAL HALAL GUYS. I vote this negative 5 stars because this place truly deserves it by the way they treat their customers and their food is way worse than the food truck although they have an actual restaurant. I used to be huge fan of the original halal guys in New York on 53rd and 6th for over a decade when they were only carts. Today, I realized that their quality and food portions are far worse than a fast food joint and that they don't care about their customers at all. I much prefer to eat mcdonalds as they are at least consistent and you know what to expect. I came here with a friend and a mid aged African American guy with glasses that takes your order CANNOT service food at all. HE IS BY FAR THE WORST and I'm not sure why he even works here. If you see him, do your self a favor and leave and don't waste your money because he's rude and sure to mess up your food as this happened to me on multiple occasions with this same guy. Specifically, my friend orders the small platter and I order the regular platter and the guy gives us both one scoop of rice for both platters and mine less portions of chicken and beef then the small platter although mine is a regular size. Now, if you know the original chicken and rice in the city, you know they are generous with their portions and that's the reason why we became fans in the first place. This guy gives you mostly VEGTABLES and little meat and is cheap about the portions and serves food as if there's none left and rations the portions tiny and army style. So I went to the register to talk to the manager (since he wore different clothes) to explain that I was not happy and that the portions are tiny and not what halal guys serve in the city and he responded , "this is not the city, and this is the normal portion" in a very rude manner. Really? How do you work for chicken and rice and not know the original portions of the food when you are representing the halal guys ? I insisted that I was unhappy and when he took the platter to the stove, he gave me attitude as he clearly did not want to want to resolve the issue and then dropped my platter by accident all over their food counter. He then gets a puts a new platter together and angrily gives it back to me with no apology what so ever with a dirty look. I WILL NEVER RETURN. If you want real chicken and rice, don't ever come here. You are better off going anywhere else. I have been a long time customer of the Halal Guys cart, but be warned - the restaurants in NJ (and CA) might as well be completely different food joints. The first attempt I had at coming to this particular Halal guys was the worst. I walked in and on the grill was dozens of uncooked chicken and meat. I have literally never seen that much uncooked meat in a restaurant just bulked up on the grill. I'm not vegetarian, but I've dabbled with being uncomfortable eating meat... and this was just disgusting. The amount of uncooked meat and how disorganized it was made me sick and I walked away before trying anything. The second attempt at the grill was a little better but it was empty and the guys behind the counter seemed too eager to leave. I got some hummus and falafels on the side and ended up spending 40+ for two bowls and extra sides. That's excessive. I won't be coming back here, at least not unless I get it delivered and I don't have to step foot in the place again. I prefer the NY carts any day. read more

Came here last night with my boyfriend 15 minutes before closing. I didn't like that they were practically ready to go. I guess after previously working in the food industry they would clean up after the doors are closed. No biggie. I wish I got the name of the gentleman making ALL the food. I understand stations, but two of the employees were of no help after they had a line of people! My boyfriend and I continuously thanked him and told the cashier he was the best! Food was mediocre. I got the combo. Mixture of beef and chicken with lettuce, tomato, rice and some falafel. That spicy sauce is no joke! I doused mine with ranch sauce making it a good mixture. Horrible service. They are slower and unorganized. You start your order and then they mix it up when it's down the line so you have to pay attention to your order or you will leave with someone's else. I asked what certain sauces are or what's in them and the workers don't even know themselves. I asked one lady what a certain sauce tasted like she said " it taste like we don't know" was funny but didn't help me. They make the wings when you order but are very slow when putting them in the fryer. One guy before me had a big order and when the worker handed him his bag he dropped it! But said it's only the sauces and the dessert! Umm, ew! You still just dropped his food. Another worked pushing pita bread down with his bare ungloved hands into a container that it wasn't fitting in. Just overall disorganized. Food is still decent and the staff is friendly but I've been going to the original on 53rd and 6th for years...the taste just isn't there any more at these franchises. You spend a lot more on a platter 8.99 and you get less food than ever. It used to be 3/4 of a container of rice with meat on top and a little lettuce on the side but now you pay for half of a container of iceberg lettuce. It's a shame franchises will kill something that I once loved. Overpriced and cutting costs by giving filler of lettuce instead of rice and what we actually pay for. Honestly this place is nice and clean, workers are friendly but the food taste nothing like the halal Guys food that you get in NYC on 53rd St..the White sauce even taste different, Also Prices are more expensive then what you would get charged in NYC. Now that I'm a responsible adult and surviving quarantine, the drunken Saturday nights have become drunken nights that end with a Y. Decided to order this on a Monday night just to be disappointed. Small portions and high prices. Half the platter is lettuce. Got the combo chicken and gyro. Original guys chopped it up so much that a 2 year old can eat it. These "guys" basically give you kebabs. When I got home I realized I was missing some of the add on options so " hangry me " called them to let them know. I've been to halal guys about 3 times and honestly it's kind of a disappointment. I'm not trying to sound like the ugly American here or bash their business in any way but their platters aren't good. Most of the platters I got from there were all cold, soggy and it had a weird taste to it and I didn't want to address that to the employees there because i don't want to give them a hard time and im not that person who's going to go off because of their food not being made properly or something. Inexpensive, mammoth portions, not very tasty, not well executed versions of the real deal street food. This pretty much describes this place. Halal guys has a limited item menu with several opportunities to upsize/add a premium ingredient to your basic order of chicken or gyro in a platter or sandwich. Massive portions but all in all not very satisfying if you are looking for that NYC chicken and rice or gyro and rice experience where the cart owner is skilled enough to crisp up the chicken or gyro pieces on the flat grill. Here everything is kinda squishy, gloppy and making you wonder if you just rolled the dice on food poisoning. JK about the last part but you get the picture. They sold out. I'm a BIG FAN of their cart in the city. We have even driven in SPECIFICALLY for a platter covered in delicious white sauce (with that daring touch of red). Needless to say, I was very excited a more convenient location opened up. Free parking? No bridge toll? Only 10 minutes away? Then YES. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I first heard about the halal guys when they only had a cart on 53rd and 6th in NY. It was such a staple for me anytime I was in the area. However, once they started launching more branches, it seemed as if the quality of their food is slowly disappearing. HOWEVER, today I came in for the bogo burrito promo and it did not disappoint. Portion wise, this location is very generous! My burrito was packed with chicken and lamb as if I was ordering it as a platter. Apparently you also have the choice of some sort of cheese. So I've both ordered delivery and eaten here in person. The restaurant is clean and modern. But the food is just different from the original. Yes, platter is more expensive and smaller. Having been many brick and mortar stores they all charge a slight premium likely to compensate for the increased overhead. $11 for a platter is not robbery, it's reasonable. What's disappointing is I get a plate of dried over cooked gyro meat that just seemed unappetizing. It's possible it's just a function of low turnover and got a bad batch. He original cart is constantly preparing food so you're guaranteed at least a fresh batch of rice, and recently cooked chicken and gyro. I have never eaten from the cart in NYC(need to though) only at a storefront in NYC but from what I can remember this place comes in behind them but hey it beats driving through the tunnel and paying the toll right? I do feel that the portion size was the same. White sauce is thicker here though but tasted very similar. One thing that kinda caught my eye was the amount of chicken the guy was cooking at once on the grill. Kinda felt like how does he know that each cutlet is fully cooked? I get it they are busy but just didn't feel kosher. The chicken was dry which made me add a lot of white sauce, is that necessarily a bad thing? A lot of people compare this place to juicy platters. For me it's better solely because I don't like all the spice in food there so being a plain Jane it's halal guys for me. This location gets busy but the line moves fairly quickly. Well I never been to the 53rd and 6th location and this is my first time trying this franchise and it came with a ton of hype lol. I am comparing it to my spot which is Juicy Platters. This location just opened up and I thought I would wait it out because of all the hype and I didn't feel like dealing with the long line. Well the joke was on me I arrived on a Thursday around 6pm ish and it looked like damm Soul Train line inside LOL. I almost detoured and went to good old Chik Fil A but I said I need to scratch this off my to do list and get this off my chest like push up LOL. So I strolled to the back of this long line (Mumbling In My Head This Better Be Good Or Else LOL !!!) Surprisingly even though the line was long it was moving and about 15 to 20 minutes in I was finally ready to place my order. I ordered the regular chicken platter with rice and salad. Finally my verdict below Drum Roll Pleaseeeeeeeee ....................... LOL Rice 3.75 out of 5 Stars: The rice tasted good but it didn't have barely any seasoning. Also it didn't taste fresh even though it tasted well you could tell in the taste that it was not fresh rice which makes sense because the set up is like your old middle school cafeteria assembly line style. I actually thought I was in prison for a second or an episode of OZ trying getting lunch. Compared to Juicy Platter the rice always taste Soooooo Good without any white sauce or meat or anything. I could literally eat that rice by itself because it is fresh and amazingly seasoned. Also the rice at Halal guys felt heavy compared to Juicy Platters. The chicken actually tasted pretty good in the beginning but as I got towards the end of the meal the chicken started to dry out and lose flavor which was not sexy at all. The whole big pile of chicken on a grill needs to change because it dries out the natural juices for the chicken on top of the pile. I understand supply and demand for revenue but it removes the natural juices from the meat and the result is not cool at all. Now compared to Juicy Platters its not even close. Juicy lives up to the Juicy part of the chicken every bite bursting with flavor to the last bite why... maybe because the chicken is fresher than the Halal guys way of serving the chicken. In my reviews I always say I rather wait for my food than have quick service because usually that means the quality will not be good overall. The only edge Halal guys has in this department is that they give you a little more meat than Juicy Platters does but I rather quality over quantity any day of the week. He squeezes a ton of sauce not knowing if you dont like your platter drenched in sauce lol and after drowning your platter in sauce asks you if you want more. Bro Seriously ???? Even though The Halal Guys have these little white sauce packets you can get to apply it yourself. I rather the fresh white sauce out the bottle because I am sure a packet will not taste as good as the bottle fresh version. Juicy Platters has a wayyyyyyyyyyyy better more convenient set up where as you wait for your fresh order to be made you can go to this little refrigerator and prepare you own White Sauce in these little cups to go which I like because everyone's white sauce application volume is not the same. The Halal Guys sauce did taste really good besides the annoying set up. They may taste about the same in quality so no one gets an edge in taste category but the set up and convenience is another story (Insert Side Eye Emoji HERE !!!) I totally hear all the comments about this not "tasting the same" with the one in the city. Well there should be a difference when you're getting food from a truck vs brick and mortar. i.e: none of those dusty NYC air taste with this one lol just kidding. Since I have visited the other location down in E. Brunswick, I kinda came here knowing what to expect. Teterboro Halal Guys is located in that up-and-coming Teterboro strip mall where that Costco and Walmart are at. It's kinda unbelievable how fast that complex is growing - 4 years ago when I moved up to this area it was literally an empty plot of land. Always plenty of parking but on peak hours you kinda have to walk a bit. This location is definitely larger and has more seatings than the one in E. Brunswick. There seems to be always a line but it moves pretty quickly. There's a reward program you can sign up for while waiting on the line - which gave me free soda for just signing up. If you can handle as much spicy-ness as I do, it's worth asking the staff to add more sauce to your platter :] (yup they kept on telling me it's very spicy to which I said I know exactly how spicy it is and how much I could handle - appreciate the thoughtfulness tho lol). I don't typically get the a la carte extras because a platter is always enough for me and I hate taking them home for "later" because it wouldn't taste as good anymore.
