I thought it was alright, but there's nothing here that I would wait in line for to order tbh. Not bad but nothing to write home about taste wise. But I needed some fast food, and Halal Guys fits the bill pretty easily. Ordered through yelp and for pickup and it was ready within 20 minutes during peak dinner hours. Nothing too special, which is fine for a quick meal. Options are limited to only 3 different types of plates. Ordered a combo with white sauce and fries. The fries were the crinkle cut, the salad consisted of iceberg, onions, and tomato. The white sauce is basically watered down mayo and could be improved on. Price wise it was whatever, just average for Irvine prices but nothing to write home about. Overall, it's average for me. read more

I've driven past The Halal Guys @ The District storefront many times. I decided to give it a go last night as I was wanting something other than a burger. Truly I was craving a Carne Asada burrito, but Irvine / Tustin is a wasteland, even more-so after 9pm.... Approaching The District location near closing time I went in with lowered expectations as their 'open' sign was already turned off. The staff was very warm, friendly and welcoming even with being towards the end of their evening. I asked for a beef gyro sandwich, but was served the platter. The switcheroo was fine and likely a safer bet at this hour. As the pita bread accompanied it was cardboard. Even their 'white sauce' is glorified mayonnaise, imo... A runny mess without flavor. Glad I asked for it on the side. The gyro meat itself was chopped into bits, no big chunks or slices of meat. Something a little saddening but still flavorful. Plenty of yellow rice for added color and seemed more of a garnish than anything else. I can now say I've been to The Halal Guys, and very uncertain if I'll be a returning customer. Their motto is 'We Are Different' unfortunately I do not see how. If The Kebab Shop was open at this hour I would have gone there instead. =/ - 2 stars due to the staff. I always have feelings of nostalgia when I visit Halal Guys because it was a place I frequented during college, and it was conveniently located in downtown Berkeley! So I decided I had to come when I saw one in Tustin as well! My go-to order was the regular beef gyro platter, so it was easy to decide when I stepped into the restaurant. The service was speedy as usual, and the workers seemed tired but were courteous. For some reason, the gyro platter didn't have the signature taste I remember. The rice and veggies were fine, but the beef had more of a gamey taste than I remember. Perhaps the taste also differs depending on location? I also came at dinner time, and perhaps the food had been sitting out for a while. I am willing to try again though, for nostalgia's sake, maybe earlier in the day? read more

This place is soooo Fire!!! I love it and reminds me of when I was in NYC visiting the cart on 53rd !!!! This locations is awesome , super friendly guys that always smile. Rice comes out from back piping hot like their gyro meat and chicken! Love it. So simple yet delicious. The white sauce is the key to them too! But that hot sauce, I like my A hole normal, thank you. LOL I tried it once and omg I nearly died. They have a challenge , I don't know how in the world they do it but , no way!!! Place here is always packed but the line moves quickly with hot fresh food. This establishment is mainly a takeout ambiance, however there are some places to stay in and dine but there is not much space. This is a convenient Mediterranean style food joint. Got the chicken sandwich which was wrapped with pita bread, had chicken, tomatoes and lettuce as well as tahini sauce. I wish there was more sauce on the side because it was good. I was a little sad because they said they didn't have fries but I have being to this restaurant in Vegas and they do have fries, I guess each location is different. The meat was cooked really good. Service was quick and efficient as well. And it's nice they are open later than most food spots in the surrounding area :) read more

The only bad feedback I have is the soap dispenser wasn't working in the bathroom. We used the hand sanitizer they had by the soda station. Other than that I give it 5 stars! Nothing beats the nyc's OG halal guys. Our rice was hard, so not cooked thoroughly or old. Everything seems bland. My toddler didn't even like it he just ate the bread. Very confused about the high ratings. Who likes hard rice??? The bathroom was filthy, and the water machine did not work. The guy serving the food seemed very unhappy. I didn't hear him when he asked "how many lines?" Of hot sauce. That's never been a question asked to me anywhere about hot sauce. Very odd. Anyways, not coming back. read more

Have been to a couple different halal guys and have always had a positive experience except with this one. On two separate occasions their employees who have made my sandwich have been obviously high (under the influence). Last time we got sides of hummus w/ pita, rice and two sandwiches, Everything but the hummus was very stale. Today, we had a simpler order just two sandwiches. From the beginning of our interaction I noticed he was under the influence, he started piling all the toppings before forgetting the protein but reminding me it'll take 3 minutes to be done. He asked me if I wanted onions and peppers a few seconds after he already put the toppings ON so I said they're already on the sandwich and he looked down like "oh." Once I got my sandwich, I noticed he forgot the protein and sat down to double check and he definitely forgot it so I told him, he put in the protein and realized he messed up and gave me a free dessert. I used to work fast food when I was a teenager, it's not hard to make a sandwich. And apparently this location allows their employees to be under the influence on the clock affecting their productivity. read more

I will never order here at this location again and especially via the App. Why? My order stated that it was completed, and it also provides me a time when it's ready for pick up. Well... Lone and behold, I'm there waiting. There were 2 other customers who walked in after I had gotten there to place their order and was immediately attended to. Even though I'm by the register waiting for my order, and after letting them know I'm here to pick up my completed pre-order. What's F'ed up is the 2 other customers that got there after, walked out with their order before I did! WTF? That's Issue #1! It took the same amount of time to wait as if I were to walk into the place and personally place my order. It was a late evening, and it was not busy at all, so there should be no excuse. Onto Issue #2, I paid extra for extra Rice like any ordinary Asian would do, yet I get a standard portion. Wtf!? It was only obvious because I ordered it without lettuce and tomato. Thank god for my Dosh App and got some little money back! Then after pre-ordering and having to wait that extra 6-8 minutes, my order was finally ready. Brandon seals my bag with a SPECIAL Round Green Sticker and hands it off to me while speaking in tongue under his own breathe. My reply, "Thank you, and good night!" Before heading out to the exit door, my inner voice/intuition says, "check the bag." As I get even closer to the door, I got louder with myself to check the TF'n bag; again!, I tried to ignore it, then a louder INFj-T shout-out to myself, "check the MF'n bag NOW!" So I open up my bag, and I discover that I was missing an entire order! I would've been pissed TF off if I had gotten home after a 20 plus min. drive only to find a missing order! So guess what? After addressing my issue with someone who asked, wearing a dark blue shirt who felt my radiating energy through my mask, with my passive aggressive self, They apologized and I had to wait an extra 6-8 minutes for the rest of my MF'n order. That's 3 MF'n Strikes! So after dialing my Breathe Exercise App to calm TF down on my Apple Watch, I ask management to please be patient with Brandon after reading this. It's not Brandon's fault for requiring extra supervision over his shoulders and is in dire need of micro-managing. It appears he wasn't in the driver seat that day or possibly under the influence, and maybe lack training, possibly a millennial to the 10th F'power, or maybe it was his last day. Only god knows. Management should've known better after interviewing and onboarding him. Never put someone in charge of a station, especially in the front line when it's evident that Brandon clearly has a handful of disadvantages and was given responsibilities way beyond his caliber. He needs prayer, and to light up 3 incense and ask for forgiveness for the sins he's committed in his past and current life! I'm a fast learner, so shame on me, never TF again... All the food i s already prepared and scooped into tin bowls at the time of ordering. Because of this, the lines move fast, so even if it looks long, it won't be that long of a wait. The location is in the District, which tends to be busy. It is also near Chick-fil-a and In N Out, so parking and leaving can be a challenge at peak times. However, if you are craving their food and your kid wants something different, this works out well. Otherwise, there are a few tables inside and a few outdoors. I'm right on these predictions 90% of the time as someone who eats out for lunch every single day of the year. , They'll only stay open if they're feeding the restaurant with profits from other stores. The protein is barely half what it originally was. So go in and say good bye to the workers and wish them well in their new endeavors. I paid $16 with no drink for a bowl of lettuce and rice. We came here after running errands at Costco off of Park Avenue in Tustin. It's located at the end of a long shopping complex and makes a tasty alternative especially when there are long lines at Chic Filet and In-N-Out (also nearby.) The store was very clean. If you enter from the side there is a chained line where you enter but it's kind of a small space to enter that way. My husband went through the line and I sat down and waited. The staff seemed a little hasty when it came to him ordering the food despite him knowing what he wanted. We ended up ordering one plate to share and it seemed like they put a lot of lettuce to avoid putting in other foods. We ended up ordering the combo plate w gyro and chicken w rice and pita bread. It was really good for what we got, just a lot of shredded lettuce left. We are still on the fence about returning. read more

I feel like the protein looked less than even half of thee bowl itself but the portion size got hidden because of the sauce. We got half chicken and half beef. I've had the chicken and beef here before and would HIGHLY recommend the beef for anyone considering which meat option might be better. I thought a small platter would also come with two white sauce packets, but it only came with one. I had the worst service from the older lady that worked last Saturday morning. I had ordered via their website for lunch to be picked up at opening which was 15 mins after they opened. When I got there at opening, I was the second person in line...the first was already being helped by this younger employee. That left this lady and one other guy working behind the counter. When I explained and showed my order, the lady refused to make my meal until the designated time. It took a while before she acquiesce even though she was doing NOTHING and just walking around. She wouldn't let the other employee help me even though he was free. By the time she agreed, there was now 3 people behind me. I felt bad for the two younger male employees; from what I could tell, they were the ones working and serving customers like they actually wanted to be there. If she wasn't such a jerk, she could have made my 1 plate and not caused the folks behind me to wait. It made me wonder why she's in food service because she was both rude and not interested in serving customers. If you are at the owner of this place, I would re-train her to be a bit more customer-friendly. There's too many good restaurants in this area to deal with this type of nonsense. read more

Has the menu or ordering become more complicated? I don't remember there being so many options when I had it back in NYC. I ordered a small combo platter with white sauce with green peppers and onion as my toppings. They gave me 1 packet of red sauce which was plenty for my small platter. Food was good, but something wasn't quite the same with the taste. Perhaps it's missing that NYC tap water. One thing in common was that the red sauce was pretty dang spicy. This place has two doors with the West door designated as the entrance and the South door as the exit. That helped with the flow of customers. Sounds simple, but people were still coming in the wrong door. I'll be sure to check it out the next time I'm in NYC to make sure my taste buds were correct. Came here because I was meeting friends nearby at the District and we were gonna all grab food and meet up. Not much to say really if you've already had them. The food is solid, the value is good, and the service is as you'd expect (nothing really out of the ordinary from a fast-food type place). They take your order and you get it fairly quickly. I've had everything there from the combo plate to the wraps, and everything is good. If you've never tried them, I do recommend going for yourself. Their white sauce goes well with the meat and rice, beware of the red sauce and use sparingly as it's quite spicy! Wanted olives, but was told it cost extra so, meh. Somehow my friend got his green onions for free though, so I'm not sure what's up with that, as it's also an added topping? Service here was good, staff were friendly. Plenty of parking in the plaza lot (I'd imagine it gets busy at peak times though since there's so many food businesses in that corner), some seating inside though not a lot. Bathroom available. Minus one star for price and portion size. I used to be ok with the price because of the big portions they give, can usually split my food into two meals. Not sure if it's at all stores in general or just this location... but I feel like portion size has significantly shrank since I last went to a Halal Guys last year or so. Granted, the only other location I've been to is in Costa Mesa. The bowl seems much more shallow or less packed in now? Our first time here this evening, the man that served us gave us such small portions of everything! I noticed he was sprinkling the rice, and it was so little and spreading it so thin on the bottom. He also did that with the meats. My son noticed that the next customer had a lady serving and got normal portions that filled the container. What a disappointment we didn't notice until we got home wasn't even enough food. There's better food elsewhere for sure. I wouldn't go here again, so inconsistent, and it's not even as good as the East Coast read more

I prefer to shop local but when that's not possible you cannot go wrong with Halal Guys! Their ingredients are fresh and you can pretty much order whatever you like within those ingredients: Bowls, Gyros etc. I usually feel good about my decisions when I leave. The staff is pretty nice and want you to be satisfied with your order. There is room for dine-in but I typically order to go.
