The soda machine is completely dirty, it hasn't been cleaned in ages. I walked in order food, and did not notice all this!! For the price point, Halal guys is a solid amount of food. Service is fast and great, and its pretty much middle eastern style fast food. Out of the platters, I prefer beef, chicken, then falafel. 2.5 for the AWFUL service we experienced on 09/30/22! But the food is AMAZING! I've been going to this location for 3 years and it's been SOLID! I never had any complaints with the staff, they always followed my customizations and extras to a tee! Especially when it comes to my sauces ^__^. We ordered online but my sister saw and advertisement for their savory beef, she couldn't order for her entree so when we went inside to pick up our food, my sister asked an employee at the counter if she could order a side of it. The employee proceeds to turn around and look at the grill where the meat was, then says to my sister: NO, we can't do that, you can only buy it as an entree. We used to do that but not anymore. Excuse me?! You already have the meat there, you can't just scoop it into a small cup as a side?! My sister is trying to tell the girl we are still here to pick up our food and she walked away from us! WIth 90 minutes left to go before closing, it's obvious homegirl didn't want any parts of helping us. There's always one bad apple and this employee was it! Pre-covid -- lines were always long during lunch time, so we always made sure we came a little bit before they opened so we could snag a seat inside. During covid -- we've done delivery, and it's just as good, but not as warm (we live in North Irvine, so it's a bit of a hike, and that plaza is always super busy anyways with Costco around the corner). We recently called in to make semi-large order this past weekend -- lots of different platters, sandwiches, sides, you name it. Karen helped us throughout the whole process -- she double checked our order, made sure everything was legit, and got us on our way. I was super excited when I realized this place finally came to Tustin! The first time I had it was at Costa Mesa. What makes this place so great is the freshness and quality of their food. My go-to food is always a small/regular beef platter depending how hungry I am. I will always ask to add in some tomato and lettuce for veggies. Then I will ask to put a lot of white sauce (or I'll ask for a white packet if I'm taking it for take out) and two lines of hot sauce; it's super spicy so don't underestimate (or I'll ask for two hot sauce packets for take out)! Then I will ask for some extra jalapeños for more spicy flavor. And I always order a side of fries and a soda (it helps the spicy feeling go away for me). Just know that when ordering fries, it might take about five minutes for it to be ready since they make it nice and fresh than serving right away. But it's worth the wait since it's all nice and crunchy; you will not feel disappointed! The style they serve here is similar to Chipotle so it's a quick place to eat or for take out. I definitely would recommend the place; the service is pretty good here too and the place is clean! They also have a challenge if you can handle the spice so if you're able to handle spicy, take the challenge! read more

One female member helped me and another female team member legit yelled at my partner and asked him if he has been helped. Then the two of them started laughing and conversing in Spanish with a male member about how she yelled so loudly for a good 2 mins. But hey, guess what? Yes I'm Asian but I fucking understand Spanish! It was late in the evening and I was like fuck it, but the more I thought about it the more I felt like that was super unprofessional and rude. I've never had similar experience before at any of the other halal guys locations. They need to train their team members better in professionalism and work ethic. They also don't really need like 10 people just standing there and chitchatting but hey I ain't the manager so who am I to judge. The food was subpar to the other times I've had halal guys. I was the second person in line and no one was helping me when I politely asked where I can start to take my order ( usually I would order delivery) and because I came in through the " wrong " door the guy said I have to go back if the line. I don't care about going to the back of the line but it's the principal that no one was there and as soon as 4 people came after me; he said to go to the back. I order delivery via DoorDash from here and have actually never stepped foot in the restaurant, so I can only speak on the quality of food. They're portions are pretty large and it comes with rice, meat, tomatoes, lettuce. Red and white sauce are separate. Onions and jalapeños can be added for free and olives are $1. At first glance, it looks like there's a lot of meat, but it's just a single layer spread evenly. I usually get the gyro and it's pretty good, but today I tried half chicken. The chicken is gross. It is dry and bland and I totally had food remorse after my first bite. Everything else is pretty good. The veggies are fresh. My pet peeve at restaurants is spoiled or soggy lettuce. Love me some Halal Guys whenever I get that craving for a satisfying lunch! Although the food is generally the same in terms of restaurant chains, not all places operate equally. I usually drop by this place if I'm in the area. I'd recommend getting the beef gyro w/ extra sauce (trust me!) because it's so good. I noticed that people who order the combination (beef and chicken) generally get a bit more meat compared to people who just order the beef. Also, if you need extra sauce, ask for it in a cup since it'll be free compared to getting it in a packet and having to pay an additional fee. Or you can avoid all that and just ask for extra sauce on your food, but once you break through the layer of sauce on the top, you will be left with some dry food on the bottom. Service-wise, this place could be a bit more efficient. I remember ordering my food just the other day and having to stand in line waiting to pay for it. As my food just sat on the counter, the workers were preparing food for what I assume was a large to go order because everyone else behind me was also waiting to pay for their food. First time ordering from this franchise. We placed 3 sandwiches, hummus with extra pita bread and baklava. We placed an online order for pick up. When I got there the order was ready but sealed. I read the receipt and it shows everything I ordered. My error for not double checking what was in the bag. Got home and found only 2 sandwiches, 2 pita bread and the baklava. Called the store only to get a machine that was full and no way to let them know. The store wasn't even busy. So if you order online you may want to rip through the packaging and make sure everything is there. What we did get was ok and hubby says it's a 3 so I'm giving 3 stars for the food only - service no so much - mah Update-Changing my star rating to 5 stars. We were surprised to find this location of The Halal Guys. We were originally planning on heading to another location, but this was a nice surprise. Parking at this location was pretty easy when we went. But, it might get busy or full of traffic as this seems to be a pretty busy plaza with a lot of great storefronts. Went in before noon and did not have to wait in any lines. But, as we were eating, a line did end up being formed due to the lunch time crowd. They have it pretty well organized as they had a rope prepared to form a longer line. We each got a small bowl combo with both chicken and gyro. So good! Each bowl comes with rice, salad and pita bread. You can add other toppings such as jalapenos. If there is one thing we can ask for, it would more pita bread. They give you about four small slices, but we just devoured that so more would be good. Be sure to get extra white sauce because it is THAT good. If you like spicy, get the spicy sauce, but it does have a kick so don't go too crazy. I think 1 to 2 lines is mild. If you like things more spicy, we would say at least 4 lines, but we eat spicy, so be warned. The preparer steered us into 2 lines instead of 4, but 4 would probably have been perfect for us. A few fun facts: The bathroom. No locks to lock from the inside, but rest assured that it's locked. We assume you need a key to get in, but the door was wide open and we didn't have to ask for one. Secondly, if you go outside from the side door, be careful to hold on to your napkins and utencils. The fan that blows when the door is opened is pretty strong and the napkins and utencils flew off our tray! read more

I really wanted to give this place a good review because I love Mediterranean food, but there were multiple issues with my experience. 1. I wanted the beef gyro sandwich, but I asked the lady who was cutting the meat to cut some and put it on the grill to make it well-done. I didn't want the meat that was already cut and sitting in its own fat for so long. She said that that meat was for the next day!!! NEXT DAY?! Really?! I offered to pay extra to have my meat cut and put on the grill, but they couldn't do it. I didn't want to hold the line, so I went ahead with the already cut meat. It was too greasy and undercooked for me. 2. The "white sauce" tastes nothing like the tahini sauce that should come with gyro. I think it was just mayo with some herbs. A sauce with tahini would have been awesome. 3. The falafel plate was good. The falafels were good, but the rice was totally tasteless. When you think Mediterranean food, you think of herbs, flavors, aromas...None of that! We just forced the food down with jalapenos! Otherwise, the food was very tasteless. 4. The inside is small and in the afternoon when the sun is beating on the windows, you want to sit outside to escape the heat, but the outside is not any better! An awning or some tall plants around the patio would be great. I think for $22 (no drinks), I had a lot of better options in the immediate area. She asked for the last 4 of my card I gave it to her she alleges that she can't find it mind you I sat down for 2 min to eat my food before I found the hair. So she "looks"in the computer and says that she can't find my card number and she's returning my money to the lady card that was used which didn't match the lady 4 of my card which means it does not belong to me.
