Th food is pretty solid and the service from Liz who made by bowl was exceptional but there are two major things that need to change. 1) Turn the a/c on. It genuinely was probably 85 degrees inside the restaurant. That is ridiculous, let alone on a hot summer day. It honestly felt cooler outside just because of the breeze. Your workers are already spending all day moving with steaming foods in front of their faces. They are going to pass out on the job. 2) Provide an option for electronic tips. Nobody carries cash nowadays. Your workers deserve the opportunity to get a little extra compensation especially when they are literally sweating on the job. Besides those 2 changes, food is solid so please keep it up and take care of your workers! Went back to The Halal Guys after years, and wow the nostalgia hit instantly. My sister had it recently and it put the craving back in my head, so we grabbed it for lunch. We ordered the classic lamb & beef plate with lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, onions, white sauce, and a line of red sauce. The flavors were exactly how I remembered savory, satisfying, and that white sauce still hits every time. The lamb and beef were especially good, tender and well-seasoned. The only downside was the rice. We went at that awkward in-between time around 3 PM, and it seemed like it had been sitting from the lunch rush. It was a bit dry and slightly crunchy, even sticking to my teeth, which made it pretty unpleasant. Honestly, I think I'd be a lot more excited to come back if the experience had been better. The rice kind of threw everything off for me, so I'm not super inclined to return anytime soon which is a bummer because I used to really love this spot. Halal Guys is in the District between Whole Foods and In N Out. I had the Beef Gyro with a smear of hummus (for $1 more) and spent roughly $15 out the door. The bread is very thick and doughy -- I assumed there'd by some crispness to it, but there's not. You can customize your wrap and once fully assembled, it looked amazing, but ultimately tasted like bread and hot sauce. While there was a large serving of meat, it was very under-seasoned and lacked the meaty flavor I expected. Sadness. There's really not much else to say... Halal Guys is the Middle Eastern equivalent of Subway -- quick, edible, and filling, but not enjoyable and not worth recommending. read more

Wednesday, November 5th, 2025 Approx. 1PM When I lived in NYC and had to work late into the night, I survived on gyro platters from The Halal Guys stand on Avenue of the Americas. Even at 11PM at night, you typically had to stand in line for half an hour to get your food. It was THAT good. Now regarding the location in Tustin: PROS: - Flavor essentially the same as NYC. (But not the pita bread.) - Great location CONS: - Paid almost $18.00 for a "Small" platter. Back when I lived in NYC, a LARGE platter cost $8.00 - They went skimpy on the meat. The Halal Guys in NYC NEVER WENT SKIMPY ON THE MEAT volume. This is part of what made The Halal Guys so great in NYC. - The pita served w/the platters in NYC had that home-baked flavor, like it was made that afternoon somewhere in Brooklyn. The pita here looks and tastes like it came out of some machine. If you're got a craving for Halal food and have $20.00 to blow on a small, but flavorful meal in this era of inflation, come here. I first tried Halal Guys at the original food truck in New York so I was pleasantly surprised to find one here. The food is good, a nice kick of flavors and can't go wrong with the white sauce! I got half gyro and half chicken, and the meat was slightly on the saltier side today. I've been here previously and it was good, so maybe it's just how they made it today. This Halal Guys location is just okay. I got the regular platter with beef gyro $16 for pick up. It comes with rice, salad, tomato, and their white sauce. The beef was a little dry and the pita tasted like it was bought from a grocery store. The portion size is good for the price, but the Costa Mesa location tastes better. I always stop by Halal Guys whenever I'm at the District. It's quick and easy to order since it's assembly line style. I got the large combo bowl and I love how much food they give, I always have leftovers so it's always 2-3 meals for me. There's lots of table seating inside, but I got my food to go. I also got a lychee iced tea, but was a little disappointed because you could hardly taste the lychee flavor. Well I'm not sure how this place received 4 stars. This will be the last time I go to a place based off their star rating and food pics . My family and I walk in into this place where I was starting to have second thoughts based on the environment. I ordered the sandwich. The beef was very greasy and they charge you for any extras like olives or jalapeños. You get just lettuce and tomatoes. Before I could unwrap my sandwich the pita bread already had falling apart, and tasted horrible. I was shocked to see that their ice machine must be broken so they had partially melted ice in a tin pan which didn't look too clean. Not sure what the issue is with this particular location, but every time I've gone here in person or ordered food, I seem to have a problem with my order. After previous issues where an item was missed or there was problems with their payment terminal, today marks the second time in a row I've gotten my food asking for no white sauce on the food but just a packet on the side where I left the restaurant only to realize no sauce packet was included. I can understand it happening one time or if the restaurant was really busy, but I was literally the only person in line both times. There just seems to be a real careless attitude from the employees working, and it's pretty frustrating.. No white sauce with Halal guys totally messes up the experience! read more

I haven't been in a few years but I stopped by for lunch today. It was around 2:30 so it was mostly empty but I noticed that many of the tables hadn't been cleaned and still had trash on them. I ordered a beef gyro and chicken platter with olives and white sauce. Everything tasted great but I had to spit out several bites because I kept biting down on something rock hard. I decided to try this place during my lunch break. I got their small platter with beef. It was delicious! They put the white sauce on the side which I love, I added that on top and it was great! The plate was decently sized, about the size of two cups of rice and half salad and then like 2 1/2 cups of beef. It was very filling and I will definitely be back for more!! read more

Everything here is so good and flavorful. Even the classic hummus is super delicious. You choose from chicken, beef and falafel as your protein, then if you want a bowl, or wrap. The regular size bowl is only a dollar more than the small, so it just makes the most sense to get that one. You definitely get the most bang for your buck that way. Then with the same gloves they were using to clean, they used to touch the utensils to serve the customers. They were out of rice, a halal guys staple, and told customers with a smile on their face. I used to work in a restaurant and this is completely unacceptable to start closing duties so soon. I get wanting to leave earlier but then the store hours should be adjusted. My story goes like this: I have a class in the area that ends at 9:00 p.m. Once a week, I arrive at this establishment and venture inside at 8:55 p.m. to 9:05 p.m. on a regular basis. The place looks closed down. The employees are all cleaning and putting things away. They have their ovens turned off, their pans have been emptied, and the only food they have is being warmed on a grill in the back. Often they are out of items like onions. Well, go cut some in the back? Isn't that your job? You would think the place closes at 9:00 p.m, and I should be relieved to get any food at all before they lock the door? That is false. The Halal Guys in the District is open until 10:00 p.m. This is not fair to those who arrive at or after 9:00 p.m. When I worked at restaurants, we never started to clean up until the restaurant closes. The Halal Guys should not start to close stuff down and clean up until 10:00 p.m. when they close. They have compromised the quality of their food to leave earlier than they should. They should offer hot and fresh food until they close at 10:00 p.m. I feel ripped off when I arrive at 9:00 pm No other place is like this. Please, put your customer experience and quality as a higher priority than leaving early. read more

I had the original halal guys at a cart in NYC, and waited years before trying it here for some reason. This is a great spot for a large meal at a fair price. I got a large bowl with chicken and everything on it. The white sauce is so tasty! you can ask for sauce on the side as well or their red (hot) sauce. While they have different options, I go for the chicken. The rice is so yummy and all the toppings are great. Portions are large. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We eat here from time to time, the food is delicious - the servings are nice sized, prices are fair. I usually get the large bowl, rice, gyro, pita. The better half goes for a mix of chicken and gyro, rice, lettuce, tomato, pita, white sauce oh my. crowds are fairly steady this place is usually busy whenever we stop by. In comparing this to two other Halal Guys locations the chain is pretty consistent in offerings and flavors - this location in particular is quick, friendly, and filling =) read more
