I cannot believe Scotto Brothers allow their restaurants to fill top shelf bottle with cheap alcohol! I went with 10 friends this past weekend. Half of us had Ketel One vodka & ALL of us were sick. I had one drink. I knew immediately I was not given Ketel One by the taste. The bartender was rude & gave me the nastiest looks when I ordered my martini. I'm sorry I asked for dry vermouth & olive juice in it. I guess that required extra work for him. Needless to say we will not be going back. read more

Came here expecting fine dining, but our waitress (older lady with glasses) and busers seemed more like they used to work at Ruby Tuesdays. I really need an answer here if a customer bought a 34 ounce bottle of wine would you bring it to the table already opened to pour? Then why bring a bottle of water already opened it should be opened at the table . If two people were dining and only one ordered a 34 ounce bottle of wine and the other person ordered a separate cocktail, Would you come and pour half the bottle of wine in one persons glass and the entire second half of wine in the other glass?? And take the bottle away? Then why would you do it with a bottle of water ? No one wants to hold a 17 ounce drink . We were trying to finish our appetizer and they came by trying to pick it off the table like 4 times . Really ?? Not my favorite of the restaurant group. This place changes names so many times I can't keep up but here we are. Food is alright. I think they do well with their DJ nights as per usual and the offices upstairs. Location is not my favorite and the menu isn't big it's definitely just a quick lunch spot I wouldn't expect a dinner here. maybe more than a 3 star rating but not quite a 4. more like 3.7. The theme is excellent service, great environment, good food (not "amazing") and expensive for what you get. The restaurant is beautiful. Some slight renovations since it was Bijou and Jewel. I like that the atmosphere is upscale and there are some nice dinner options, but also has a more "casual "menu. management is excellent, always walking around making sure everybody's happy. Our waitress was a bit rough around the edges, but the more we talked to her, the more we coaxed the personality out of her. We started with short rib nachos, which were excellent and garlic parm wings, which were good as well but heavily battered. my husband had the halston burger and said it was a good burger, but it was small - especially for the price of $24. Chicken Parm and side of fettuccine was good. Very nice blanket of melted cheese on it. Two of us had the skirt steak sandwich which also came with melted mozzarella. Not too much steak on it and a lot of cheese. $28 was a hefty price for a few strips of steak. The steak was delicious though and perfectly cooked. Another friend had the short rib tacos and loved them. Service was very attentive and quick. we downloaded the app that offers a $50 credit, but the waitress was not aware of the program and did not give us the credit. Exclusively located in the lobby of an office building , plenty of parking a beautiful and spacious out door dining area is available (seasonal), as you walk in beautifully decorated in a traditional modern American restaurant, I love how open the space is , high ceilings , spacious open bar area , the whole restaurant is planed perfect for accessibility...I was immediately greeted and seated by the hostess...I was very impressed by the attention to detail of this establishment...can't say enough about the management and wait staff , everyone was so polite, kind and helpful, , Gina my server was fantastic, answered all my questions, everything was cooked exactly the way I ordered it , her recommendations and knowledge of the menu was impressive, she was very friendly, patient and always checked up to see if I needed anything, Leo assisted and he recommended the Brussel sprouts , glad I had it , very unique it was fried with cranberries & almonds , it was excellent, and a thank you to the managers John & Gianni, they reassured if I needed anything and they thank me for coming in, and not to hesitate if I needed anything, menu is a traditional American flare with sushi and some standard Italian dishes . Full service bar , and they have mocktalis ..loved the watermelon margarita, started with a delicious strawberry salad w/shrimp it was sweet, pecan's crunchy with a perfect touch of balsamic, a meal with in itself, on a nice autumn afternoon warm up with a hearty tomato soup & Brie grilled cheese sandwich, I liked the California sushi roll, their baby lamb chops with Moroccan spice was delicious cooked to perfect with a nice tangy brown sauce, , try the short rib pasta with a dash of cold ricotta very good , nice portion..the chicken parmigiana was tender and crispy , perfect for the kids...skirt steak was juicy it cut like butter , smothered in their steak sauce was a delicacy...all sides we fantastic..roasted corn, cream spinach, & sautéed broccoli, all healthy and delicious, also recommend the lobster Mac n cheese with beacon served in a hot skillet, save room for dessert, took their traditional PB & J mousse , creamy , soft and delicious,,,and their refreshing ice cream sundae makes you feel like a kid again ....the Halston had only been opened for about 5 weeks but they deserve 5 stars ..as I stated earlier the Scotto group are professionals they don't do "soft openings" they hit the ground running .. As someone who dines out a lot, this place is a miss. The service is absolutely atrocious and the food is way overpriced for what it is. Some decent dishes, but incredibly inflated prices for the quantity and quality, and our food tasted like it was sitting there bc our waiter was MIA most of the time. A couple people in my group got there early and sat at the bar and the bartender did not so much as glance in our direction. I guess they don't like making money? And no, it wasn't that busy. When we got to the table, we waited nearly 2 hours for our main course, and long periods of time in between drink rounds. We told the manager when he came by and we mentioned the long wait and he did comp 2 desserts (come on that's like nothing) but our bill was still well over $700 with tax and tip. Scotto bros, this place needs some work. I waitressed and hostessed back when I was in school so I know what a good dining experience is like from inside the house and this isn't it. read more

My wife and I were on Long Island for a bridal shower and after a long day we were happy to have reservations at The Halston. We enjoyed our meal and were treated well, but around midnight, my wife awoke with gastrointestinal issues and cold sweats. For the next 3 hours, she purged herself of dinner but felt better when it was over. She was quite exhausted from the ordeal as we made our way back home. I contacted the restaurant and the General Manager Paul D'Amelio responded. We spoke on the phone and he expressed his concerns, said he was going to eat a serving of the sea bass that caused my wife's illness and offered to refund half of our $300 check. I accepted his offer and assumed that the issue was settled. Except the refund never arrived. I contacted him again, but he did nothing. So I am left to assume that this is how he handled the whole situation, by doing nothing. This type of sleazy business practice has no place in the restaurant industry where food-born illness can have dire consequences. I have informed my new extended family in New York to avoid The Halston and all Anthony Scotto Restaurants including Blackstone Steakhouse, Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi, Rare 650, One10 Modern Italian and Opus Steakhouse. read more

I love any Scotto establishment, I haven't been to Halston in a while. The first time I had the short rib gigli, it was amazing! true shredded short rib in its own natural gravy, but this time it looked like they threw a can of dog food on top of the pasta. I've never seen short rib, cut into such perfect pieces in shiny gravy. The Bronzino had roasted peppers marinated in some type of vinegar (did not go with fish) those definitely came out of a jar....mashed potatoes were boxed. This is NOT a typical experience for one of their restaurants... the service is always great, I'd give 5 stars to that and my the whole Bronzino itself was delicious (aside from the peppers and the mashed potatoes, next time I'll substitute) The atmosphere is pretty. The food was amazing and so was the service but we went there to dance too. The DJ refused to play any requests because " it was too early". When I asked management about when will the dance music start they said not for another 30-60 minutes. can you explain why I spent good money on brunch and drinks and the DJ refuses to play any songs requested with an empty dance floor. Yes, you read that correct. There was No One on the dance floor and we had to wait because we were told it's too early. Then why have the DJ there? The manager said " people are still eating" Hello it's a restaurant people will always be eating. We had other obligations later in the day and only had a certain amount of time to enjoy being with our friends. How can you be so accommodating with food and service and fail at the easiest portion; customer relations? The Halston - Lobster dumplings - American Near Me - Melville, New York

A lot of horrible things to say about my experience. Sat at the table around 8:30. Appetizers came out in a reasonable time and were great. Everything was downhill from there. I ordered NY strip and my girlfriend ordered the petite filet mignon (both ordered medium and at the same time as appetizers) along with the mashed potatoes and truffle fries. Waited an hour and 1/2 for our entrees to arrive. The manager dropped off our steak and after asking for utensils, he proceeded to hand me a butter knife... the busboy noticed and came over with a proper steak knife. The worst part: both steaks were unbelievably undercooked and no flavor whatsoever. Tasted like I was just eating a piece of meat dropped on a plate. I could've went to a Texas Roadhouse and spent $200 less for a better steak. There was absolutely no sear on the steak, no juice, no flavor, nothing. The mashed potatoes looked like they were thrown in a bowl with an ice cream scooper. WE WERE ABLE TO JAB A FORK THROUGH IT AND PICK IT UP WHOLE. First time in my life that I had to ask for salt and pepper at a "high end restaurant". For the seating. Absolutely horrible, right next to the server station and ABSOLUTELY FREEZING THE ENTIRE TIME. I understand it was busy but there's no excuse for not properly anticipating the amount of reservations weeks in advance for this outcome to be so horrible. If I could go lower than 1 star I would. Horrible Manager Menaced Me and Refused to Serve Us Dinner I have been dining frequently for many years at Scotto Brother's restaurants and have been a faithful "Good Life" member for years. They all offer great atmosphere, very good food and top notch service. When Scotto recently decided to change the Bijou (which was great) to The Halston, we quickly tried it and came back a second time to celebrate our anniversary and loved it. We came back again yesterday to celebrate our good friend's anniversary with them and had a very different experience. All was fine until my friend, who was uncomfortable with our table being right in front of the kitchen, saw a table right next us was available and out of the sight line of the kitchen. She asked our waiter if we could move, and he very nicely said he didn't see why not, so we got up to move. As I was about to sit down, the manager was standing over me with an angry, menacing look on his face and he scolded me saying, "you can't switch tables without asking me!" I responded that we had asked the waiter and he said it would be ok. He angrily responded that that is NOT the process, he has to say it's ok to move. Never in my life (and I'm 65) did I ever have a manager speak to me like that or do so in such a threatening way. With my voice elevated I said that "I can't believe you are speaking to me like this! Are you the manager?" He responded, "Yes!" I said, "Wow!...wow!" He then said, "How dare you yell at me (I definitely raised my voice but did not yell). You owe me an apology." "I said, "no you owe me an apology" and he responded that if I don't apologize, he refused to serve us dinner and then stormed off to inform his staff. We left, without even finishing the bottle of wine we paid for at the bar and brought to our table. On my way out, he was standing at the reservation desk and I asked for his name. He said, "Paul" and I responded, "Can I have your full name so when I complain to corporate on Monday (which I will), I can inform them. He repeatedly, "Paul, and I've got it all on camera!" I find that particularly crazy since a camera would show him storming up to me and starting the argument. This is inexcusable behavior in the hospitality business. We were treated terribly and effectively kicked out. An establishment is only as good as the customer experience it provides and this was truly terrible. We were so disappointed, embarrassed and heartbroken. We were really looking forward to a wonderful dining experience and instead I got reprimanded publicly for not following his process to change tables. A good manager diffuses problem situations, they don't create them, escalate them and make them a public spectacle. read more
