This is by far the best Handpulled noodles I had in Manhattan. The noodles were good, spicy level was actually spicy, and the side dishes had good flavors. Got delivery from here and we did want to try the handpulled noodles, even against their advice, and the noodled clumped together. But that was our fault for choosing those noodles despite their recommendation against it (they only recommend the regular noodles). Also, I got the beef broth, but it definitely tasted very gamey, as if there was lamb in it. I don't eat lamb so I was very deterred from my broth and I can tell right away when there is lamb in something. So I didn't eat my entire noodles since they were soaked in the gamey broth. They should write something in the description regarding that. Also, for my delivery, my drink burst and a good amount of it leaked onto my dresser and floor and was wasted. PRE-COVID REVIEW: Wow, this was the FIRST place my boyfriend and I dined at during our trip to NYC. I remember searching for a quick bite to eat near our Airbnb and The Handpulled Noodle fit the bill. They were open late enough to us to stop by after taking an Uber/Lyft from the airport to our Airbnb. We walked right on over from our Airbnb to dine in. No regrets picking this place for our first dinner in NYC. The service was good and the staff had great recommendations. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. Not too sure about the inside seating nowadays, but I remember there not being a lot of space inside to eat. Seems more of a to-go spot. However, they did have inside seating when we were there so my boyfriend and I were able to dine in. Food was delicious. Just looking back at my pictures make my mouth water! Please support this business! It has a very special place in my heart. I'm happy to read the more recent reviews of how the restaurant is even better than before! Not sure how that is even possible, but more power to The Handpulled Noodle. This dude is about THN! I totally get people doing the Flushing comparison and being left wanting. I personally wasn't expecting that level in Hamilton Heights. I went in hoping it would have some authenticity and be on par with Manhattan competitors. For me, THN is executing one notch above that. Add not having to schlep to (or get food couriered / frozen dumplings shipped from) Flushing, or haul to South Manhattan for THN's known major commercial competitor? Once mo', wit feeling: about it! Spicy Cumin Lamb Lagman Noodle (Medium Spicy with Fragrant Fried Shallot Sauce on the side): The flavor profile they develop is neck and neck with the best I've had of this dish. The spice level builds as you make your way through the dish, with new parts of your palate picking up new layers of flavor as you go. This stuff is simply bomb! And they are not playin', y'all! There is a reason they say no refunds if you order those higher spice levels. They are not trying to dumb it down for the typical American palate, which this dude loves. I'm also kind of obsessed with the container they use. And that Shallot Sauce is ridiculous. My only qualm is how thick those noodles are. Hand pulled for sure. But if the flavors weren't so good and addictive I can see a person tapping out since they are giving you a generous portion and those noodles take work to chew (cooked perfectly. Just so thick). That said, I'm going to keep ordering until I try this dish with every noodle type, and then make note to order that noodle type for every order after that. Sautéed Bok Choy with Garlic: awesome side. Light, a little crunch, and the cooking liquid + garlic make for a sort of broth which is really pleasant to drink when you're done with the bok choy. Very refreshing, and generously portioned. Sautéed Kale with Garlic: The thickness theme carries over here as I would have liked the leaves to have been cut one more time to be a little more manageable. But that flavor theme also holds true. I honestly can't remember the last time I enjoyed kale this much. This side is going in the cart every time I order. Sautéed Broccoli with Garlic: these were good. Love that they still have bite to them. Chunky pieces. Not a stand out side, but a nice option. Stewed Pork Belly Chinese Slider (w/steamed bun): nice, tender pork belly. Really good steamed bun. And went great with that Shallot Sauce. Cumin Lamb Chinese Slider (w/steamed bun): Good! Didn't need any sauce for these. Would like the option to choose your spice level. Though they give you chili oil so you can adjust a bit to your liking. Chicken Shiitake Dumplings: had higher hopes for these. For one, mine arrived broken. But even if they had been in tact, I didn't get a ton of shiitake flavor. Crystal Shrimp Dumplings: These caught me by surprise in the best way. You can honesty taste the handmade difference with both the wonton and the filling. Ridiculously good. Pork & Chive: good. Glad I tried. Would have liked more chive presence. And the biggest surprise of the bags: a note! I appreciated the surprise note (pictured) they add with your delivery order. A respectful nod to "Please use the apps to find us; they're a good thing. But once you know we're here, do your pocket and ours a solid and order for less on our website." Cool, respectful, and balanced. Mind you, some items are still a bit pricy (considering carb to protein ratio) even when ordered direct. But this is some seriously delicious grub that takes time and talent to make by hand. The traditional with lamb has really great flavor。I opted to get the spiciest option and was not disappointed. Even though it was spicy, it wasn't overpowering and added to an already fantastic dish. The sauce had a tomato base and was mixed with chili powder. The takeout boxes are large so the portions appear small but are plentiful for one person. I also opted for the cucumber and woodear salad which in my opinion had too much raw garlic, but tasted great with the addition of sesame oil. My friend went for the spicy cumin lamb stir fry lagman noodles - which are rustic standard noodle shape - and I found them to be less flavorful. We also got some pork and chive fried dumplings, but they were too greasy, so I wasn't a fan. Maybe next time I'll go for the steamed ones. This is one of those gems that you just love to find. I had no idea this was here and I am glad I found it. It is a small noodle shop that does mostly takeout. They have a simple menu but had different options for styles of noodles. My favorite is the ribbon noodle which is wide one similar to papardelle pasta. I ordered the ribbon noodles with the lamb stir fry. They let you order it with different spice levels so I went with medium spice. It is hard to stop eating this dish. The noodles had some texture to them and the sauce, lamb, and vegetables perfectly complimented the dish. So good! I also tried the steamed pork and chive dumplings. These were good but I have had better dumplings. Be careful because they are kind of like soup dumplings so hot broth will explode out of them when you bite into them. The moderate spice level is truly spicy. For a slight zing, I would go for the low spicy instead. The wonton soup is the best meal. It comes with 10 wontons, lots of bok Choy and decadent broth. It isn't too heavy so you can eat it without feeling like you need a nap after. I like the ding ding noodles with chicken as a treat. It is carb heavy but delicious. I have been dying to try to place for a bit but never have free time to travel to Harlem. I finally made the trip and I'm happy I did. I order the Dapan Niu spicy beef stew with ribbon noodles. I chose the spicy level even though it stated super hot and no refunds if too spicy, I felt challenged. Love this place! Wish it was a bit closer - like walking distance. But 15-20 minutes on the subway + walking isn't too bad for legit hand pulled noodles. My wife and I came for lunch one weekday and had the herbal beef soup with knife cut noodles and the beef stir fry with shanghai noodles. I mostly devoured the stir fry and the shanghai noodles were wonderfully bouncy and chewy. The sauce was also very good - next time I'll take it up a level and try spicy. My wife's herbal soup was great as well but a totally different flavor profile than my stir fry. We shared some fried pork and chive dumplings. They were top notch!
