9. Beef Noodle Soup. Beef was so tough
Jar M.

This was nothing to write home about. I guess the service was ok for what it was. I just wanted some soup but there was very little broth and the meat was really hard to chew, so I never got to finish it.

Roaches inside the food

Extremely disappointed with my experience at Ollie's on W 42nd St in New York City. I ordered food to go and after opening the container, I found what appeared to be roach legs in the food. When I brought it back to the counter, the employee removed the legs and body of the insect and offered to remake the food as if it was normal. I declined and requested a refund for the cash I paid, but they refused to return my money. This was completely unacceptable and honestly disturbing. Food safety and customer service should be taken much more seriously. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Stopped in here on a freezing cold weeknight. The hot tea hit the spot to open up the meal. Got a small wonton soup and the Chong Qing spicy chicken with chilis. It was mediocre at best, as it didn't really taste fresh or flavorful aside from the spice factor. Probably a one and done for me. Meh.

Meh...Not bad, but not memorable. Really 3.5 stars but wouldn't say 3. Nice to be off the beaten path in this area, just west of 9th Ave on 42nd Street. Red pleather booths, very nice servers, not standoffish at all. Good menu. Ice cold ice water, always so delicious while waiting to order. We had a show, so in & out without fanfare. Clean enough. Convenient to the area's attractions (can you call Port Authority an attraction?) Dry chili string beans, chicken with broccoli that was not overly "velveted" I'd return but wouldn't necessarily send anyone here. On the higher side of inexpensive (18.95 or so a dish)

Really awesome spot for anyone looking for authentic Chinese food . We ordered dumplings and ribs as appetizers and curry chicken as well as sesame chicken as a main course. The food was delicious, the service was fast and the place is cutely decorated they also have a bar in the front for anyone who wants to get drinks.

Chinese@ Hell's kitchen, NYC We were able to get a seat without reservation for a late Saturday lunch. We waited a while for our waitress to come and take our order. The noodles for the beef stew noodle soup was chewy and cooked just right and the soup tasted pretty good. The skin of pork soup dumplings were too doughy. I liked dry tofu and garlic stems but preserved pork belly was too salty. The prices of dishes were reasonable and cheaper when paid in cash.

This place was a great surprise! I had intended to stop for Chinatown while in NYC for some Asian food, but did not get the chance to do so, this place was in the theater district/time square area right near our hotel so we gave it a try. I ordered a Beef/Broccoli style dish and my son had an orange chicken style dish. They were both extremely tasty & filling. The portion sizes were sizable and we had a nice place to sit and eat our dinner that was relatively peaceful and quiet. I recommend this place for a great bite!

$13 lunch combo takeout comes with rice & a side of choice so i chose egg drop soup. bruh why was the egg drop soup so mf salty i had to dilute it with water. also the sesame chicken was not good like at all

Never a bad meal at Ollies! Been a family staple for years. Came here after a play tonight and it hit the spot.

Pork Belly with vegetables and Sweet & Sour Chicken

A great little Sichuan Chinese restaurant tucked in the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan. Clean, prices are reasonable, and the food was delicious. Away from the touristy areas, but perfect for the tourist who find it. Service was good and the food was prepared in a timely manner. Great for a change of pace from the typical NY food.

Ollie's lunch specials are very good, and a good deal, too. I did two take out orders...garlic chicken and the mixed vegetables. Each comes with a pint of white rice, and miso soup. I enjoyed each dish. The garlic chicken was an Americanized Cantonese- style with a reddish sweet and sour type sauce...done very well. The chicken is tender, nicely velveted, with tasty tree ear mushrooms. The mixed vegetables had a nice variety including asparagus and baby corn. Both came in a deceptively small container but were filled to the brim, perfectly adequate for one person, especially at lunchtime. The miso soup was excellent! Packing was good. The price was a real bargain. They have more authentic Chinese food available. I just did not order it this time. I hope to return for dinner to try other dishes.

I came here twice. The first time was for lunch and I had their lunch special, which was the fish and rice. Second time, I came was for dinner time. It was also great. Ordered dumplings, eggplants and scallion pancakes. Food was great, servers were friendly and the decor was classy. This will be one of my go to spots in NYC now.

Rating: Stopped by Ollie Sichuan for lunch and tried the fried rice and General Tso's chicken. The lunch menu had a decent variety and the portions were fair for the price, which I appreciated. Food came out quickly and was hot, but overall, the flavors were just okay--nothing that really stood out. The fried rice was a bit plain, and the General Tso's, while crispy, lacked the bold flavor I was expecting. Not a bad spot for a quick lunch, but not particularly memorable either. I'd go again if I was nearby, but wouldn't go out of my way.

Wonderful time at Ollie's

This restaurant is part of the Chase Sapphire reserve dining credits! We had read reviews and had an idea of what we wanted to get, but also spoke with the waitress on her recommendations and ultimately went with: Pork dumplings Salt & Pepper chicken Tiger shrimp with walnuts Oyster mushroom rice noodles Snow pea shoots I think my favorite was the oyster mushroom rice noodles with steak. The rice noodles were so silky and the flavor was good. The salt and pepper chicken was also super crispy and very juicy and tender on the inside and whatever sauce that came on the side of it is so addicting. The tiger shrimp was also good, though the menu said it came with a romanesco cauliflower, but the dish was served with broccoli. The snow pea shoots are one of my favorite vegetable dishes and, in my opinion, was just a little overcooked and doesn't need the garlic oyster sauce that comes on top. It's such a cute restaurant and you can open the vending machine door and grab a surprise treat on your way out!

Our favorites of the night were the salt and pepper chicken with scallion biscuits (jam was amazing, and the chicken was moist and fried perfectly), the walnut shrimp (super juicy and well-cooked, not too over-sauced), the pot stickers, and the cold sesame noodles which had great chew and a lovely, creamy sauce. The crudo was pretty small and nothing to write home about, and the eggplant and tofu curry were a bit under-seasoned for me. The bowls of rice we got to eat with the side dishes were also pretty mushy, as if the rice hadn't been properly rinsed before it was cooked, which was disappointing at $3 a bowl. Room for improvement! Still definitely a spot I'll recommend to friends looking for interesting takes on Chinese food! Service was attentive and smooth throughout the night, and we got some good suggestions on serving sizes for the group. Left stuffed and satisfied!

I started with the peanut chicken lettuce wraps (leaving one on the plate to save room), then moved on to the fried shredded beef and the fried chicken instant noodles (which really caught my eye) I was craving something heavier this time, and those noddles did justice. Overall, everything was satisfying. The lettuce wraps could've used more peanuts (I barely tasted them), and the fried shredded beef was labeled spicy but had zero heat. Still, the food hit the spot and left me full and happy. The service was outstanding. The restaurant dining area was very clean and well-maintained, my drink was always full, and the food came out quick and hot. The portions were very generous. I ended up taking some home, and they packed it up fast. Happy food, happy customer!

My little one had their vegetable steamed dumplings and those were phenomenal! Then for dessert we had their new custard carrots omg it was light crispy and the custard was so light and sweet! We also had their special truffle chocolate animal ice cream. Rich and creamy chocolate ice cream so beautiful we didn't want to dig into it but we tore it up! We started with egg drop soup and calamari. For mains we got sweet and sour pork, stir fried green beans, and crispy noodles with beef. Egg Drop Soup- Deliciously creamy and silky. This hits on a cold day. Calamari- Nice chewy calamari pieces with a crisp breading. You get a strong black pepper flavor that gives it a little zing. Sweet and Sour Pork- Crispy deep-fried pork pieces that were tender and juicy. The sauce is the perfect blend of sweet and tangy. Very tasty. Stir-fried Green Beans- This was wonderfully fresh. You still get a light crunch out of the beans and a garlicky finish. Crispy Noodles with Beef- Noodles were delightfully crisp with a savory sauce. The beef pieces were tender.
