Pastrami fries mmmmmmm We came in, fair warning there is very limited parking here, the parking lot is small but there's a neighborhood street where it's safe to park. We ordered Pastrami sandwich, and Chilli Cheese Pastrami Fries, they are pretty quick at turning orders out, we didn't wait long for our food to come out. The sandwich was very tasty, they are not stingy with the pastrami but had great flavor, and was a good size. The fries were my favorite, they were so good, flavorful and just like the sandwich they don't hold back on the pastrami. Most times I've placed a phone order and my food is ALWAYS ready when I arrive.... The staff is friendly, mostly women every time I go... they are polite.... And it makes the experience nice compared to the climate in most eateries these days... My order was a tad off as they added pickles, which I requested on the side, but that was ok... I didn't know they offered hot mustard! The cherry soda is always on point! I see many reviews about their sandwich being soggy... the key to this is asking for your *dip on the side*! The Hat never fails. If you have never tried a pastrami you must and only try the Hat's pastrami. It is delicious & thin sliced, which is why I like it best. Bread also isn't super thick, it's light and doesn't give you the "stuffed" feeling. It's light. I shared half with the fiancé and we shared chili cheese fries. The MP location has been around for year's. Parking isn't the best. Security guard present. A+ for the location being clean. Food comes out fast and fresh. Expensive, but worth it. My family and I were in the Monterey Park area and decided to stop off and get some pastrami. I decided to get an order of the Pastrami fries and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had Orange Bang which is really hard to find, with the exception of some 7-Eleven locations. My order came to around $18 which is kinda pricey, but considering the portion and quality I'd say it was worth it. The pastrami fries were LOADED with hot fresh pastrami, melted cheese, and gravy, it's definitely enough to feed 2-3 depending on your appetite as my sis and I shared it and had leftovers. I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try as the pastrami is really tasty and the prices are pretty reasonable. read more

Who makes better Pastramis than The Hat? Everytime I crave a pastrami and I'm too tired to drive to The Hat I regret it! The taste of the meat is perfect! Not to salty and shaved at the perfect size, enough to grasp the meat juices and allow the perfect bun to absorb the juice, just enough so that it feels dipped just right and not soggy! The hat was the best choice for a group of people who have never experienced the pastrami chili cheese fries before. The pastrami was perfectly salted. It was thinly sliced. The cheese was melted and the chili was hearty. The wait time was so little and they even allowed us to get refills on drinks. Sitting inside was only a difficult task because there were so many people there at the same time, half of them unsure as to whether or not they were going to eat inside of the restaurant or take it home. There is a security guard on one side of the building who will let you in. He will let you know went to go up and approach the counter to order. He will also let you know if there are no tables available inside and therefore you'll have to wait for a bit before you can be seated. I had been warned that this is a busy lunch spot, so when the parking lot was jam packed before noon, I knew that it must be popular. Let me say that all of the reviews about the large portion sizes and corresponding prices are true. I opted for the Pastrami Dip, fries and a Diet Coke. The sandwich was piled high and over with pastrami. Everything is packed up in "to go" bags which comes in handy considering the portion sizes and lack of dine in seating. My 1 order of fries would have been plenty for the three of us. Way to much food for me, but it justifies my $18 lunch bill for a sandwich and fries. My coworkers echoed that last statement as well. The Hat is located in East LA Across the street from East Los Angeles City College. The inside is a like a blast to the 70s complete with wood panels, green plants hanging and old photographs. The scent of beef and french fries lingers attaching itself to my clothing. The menu is simple of course I had to try the Pastrami dip, I mean its in the name. I told the woman at at the register that this was my first time and was looking for a recommendation. She answered "we dont have combos" and exhaled as though she was preparing herself to dive into the pacific ocean. Roast beef ill take the roast beef. She rung me up still holding her breath only to be interupted by my credit card. The sandwich was served on a deflated french roll with two slices of roast beef wrapped on a paper and placed in a double paper bag. Its a bit wasteful. The sandwich was sad and although It as bathed in a sauce, it was still bland. Looking around many people ordered fries topped with pastrami, perhaps thats a better choice.
