Decided to try this spot for the first time today since we were on a little adventure to find rare pokemon figures in the area! Small parking lot, cutest little "diner" but a good amount of seating! It's one of those back to back booth types and even some smaller ones for party of 2 or singles. They are FAST here! We ordered and waited maybe 5 minutes tops for our food and it was busy! I looked at the photos on Yelp ahead of time but had no idea how HUGE the chili cheese fries were. Incredibly huge, definitely meant to share in my opinion! Luckily we ate there and everything was fresh and melt in your mouth goodness. Took the rest of my chili cheese fries home to share with my mom which she loved! Fantastic food and excellent service. I'm sorry to say but the pictures you review on line versus what you get in person are not the same AT ALL :( we wanted so much to get our usual onion rings and 2 French dips. We passed on the onion rings because the past 2 times they were absolutely horrible and I knew why immediately, it's the oil that they fried them in needed to be changed desperately. The french dips were on Smaller rolls and we opened them up before eating and the look of the meat and the smell was enough for us never to come back but they were very kind and gave us a refund even though we never tasted it but the presentation was jaw dropping for them as well. Ordered pastrami dip sandwich and smalls fries from drive thru on Sunday approximately 1pm. The wait at drive thru was taking longer than usual (about 30min) I live close (off Tapo Cyn) and when I got home, the fries were cold and stale as though they had sat out for an hour. So impressed with my recent visit to the Simi Hat. Met a friend for a Saturday cheat day, place was busy but clean, comfortable, filled with families. It's efficiently run so not a big wait. At the counter, we ordered a tamale, chili fries, onion rings, chili dog and pastrami sandwich from their somewhat pricey menu. Wow, what a lot of food, very unhealthy but very tasty. I'm a chili dog fan and this one is up there with Larry's, Carney's and Pink's. Chili is very similar to Tommy's. Onion rings were great, sadly so few places do them this well anymore. This was on the "to do" list for quite some time and last night was the time. Three of us drove the distance for a real experience. Unfortunately, the experience was only so-so and left a bit of a sour taste in our mouths. The good: The pastrami dip and small fries were good. For this type of pastrami sandwich I was pleased and the fries were fresh and hot. The pastrami burger was good too. The steak sandwich was a disappointment as it was dry and one of the toppings, the tomato, was missing. If there were sauces availalbe, the clerk didn't mention them. There were two things, though, that had us repeatedly chrtling and trying to convince ourselves that were weren't annoyed. When a medium lemonade was ordered, it was rung up and a cup provided but the clerk didn't bother to mention that the drink dispenser was out of order. It had caution tape so they certainly knew that it was broken. And then there were the wet fries. Really tasty but it would have been nice had the clerk mentioned that one is huge and two would feed the entire United States Congress. Most went to waste. What a shame. I only found this place because a friend of mine lives nearby and wanted to meet at Toppers a few days before I made sure to stop by before I left for the airport and had their famous dip, pastrami sandwich and I must say it was a five star sandwich, hot fresh tasty lots of pastrami can't go wrong for the price I just wish we had this location back in the Texas area, but we don't so I guess I'll be seeing it next time on my visit. Let's first cover service and restaurant appeal. Service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant as a whole has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. But, they need to remember the public can see the work station and it really needed to be a bit cleaner. Now.....I'm very particular about my pastrami sandwich. I've tried so many, from loads of different places. I was told about this place from someone who actually doesn't eat pastrami, but they lived here in town and heard it was pretty good. After all, they are known for their pastrami right? Well my honest opinion is this..... it's average. The portion size definitely is what you'd expect when ordering a pastrami sandwich. And that in itself is part of the appeal of this sandwich. I was not at all disappointed in the looks or portion size for the price ($12.60+tax=$13.51) I got full on half just fine. Now let's get to the taste and texture. I didn't feel like it had a real pastrami taste to it. I know, I know... what does that mean? Well it was bland. I really like that smokey peppercorn flavor and this just wasn't it. The meat was shaved (hence the reason they could pile it high, and so it should be) but I found that the texture was rubbery and maybe almost overcooked. There was a lot chew to it. Which brings me to the roll. The steam of the meat and the added dip in the meat juice to the top part of the roll, then immediately wrapped in paper caused the roll to be almost "steamed" in the paper and made it (the bread) chewy. If you eat it there and don't want this to happen I'd ask it to be served open and not wrapped. If I go back there that's what I'd do for sure. Overall, The Hat gets 3 stars from me on their "world famous pastrami dip". The portion size being the real star here. This place gets plenty of business so they are doing things just fine it seems. But unfortunately for me, this probably is a one and done on pastrami. The chili cheese fries looked really good though (again huge portion size) so maybe I'll be back for those. read more

My friends wanted to stop by here for early dinner. This location is near my work office so I just stayed a little at work and my friends drove from the valley to join me here to eat. I found parking easily when I came because they were not busy at all. I arrived first so I went to put in my order because I didn't know how long it would take. After looking at their menu, I decided to go with their turkey sandwich, added American cheese which is an extra cost, got a small French fries and a small drink. My food actually didn't take long to be ready but it does cost more than other fast food places. They give you a decent amount of fries and the sandwich is a decent size. The inside of this place is spacious and will make you feel like you went back in time because the setup is like albeing in the 80s. My friends joined and put in their order. They mostly got the pastrami sandwiches and the chili cheese fries with pastrami. The portion that they give for the fries with pastrami is huge and it make sense because it cost close to an entree meal. I thought my turkey sandwich was good especially with their buttermilk ranch that you can ask for and the fries I think just needed a little more seasoning. Last week my wife and I went to the Hat in Simi Valley and it was like a trip back in time. Not only was the building designed the same, but both the customer service and the food was fantastic. Long time customer, normally go to the Alhambra location. Just went to the Simi Valley location for the first time tonight and was absolutely disappointed. I received my order just fine, but my buddy I came with didn't. He ordered a double cheese burger with avocado and was order number 8. They called order number 13, so I came to the counter and asked about my friends order. They said that it will be out soon in a rude tone. The gentleman started looking around and asking his coworkers. Then he noticed the burger was just sitting on the counter waiting. He gave us a cold burger and didn't offer to make it right.
