I have always heard go to the Reynoldsburg one it's better... so when my friend made reservations at the piano and I was a little concerned. I don't know why it was. We had an excellent meal there. Atmosphere is really cute. What kind of cabinet like a lodge -exposed walls. It's very woodsy feeling. We came here as a party at five to send off our friend to Maryland We started with pretzel bites. The forst batch came out really brown. They looked over cooked. They didnt taste great. We had a new batch put in. That came out just as disappointed. Would not recommend these to anyone. Save your calories. We also learned we came on all you can eat rib night... Which we didn't know was a thing. I'm letting you all know it's a thing and it's a good thing!!! For $25 (which is less than the normal rib meal) You can eat all the ribs you want and get two sides! That's quite a bargain- come hungry. The ribs honestly fall off the bone they're so tender and they're not slathered and sauce. They do have some sauce on them, but the sauce is perfectly seasoned and it doesn't feel like you need any additional sauce also is an excessively sugary which I really like I was quite surprised as I'm not a big huge rib person. I would get the ribs again. Id pay full price for these ribs too. They were legit good. You get two sides with this meal. I chose a salad and a baked potato Well, I chose poorly- both the salad and the potato were actually good. However, the salad was huge and I was full after eating it. I shouldn't of ordered the potato. Its bery basic. I should've ordered the green beans. The green beans are crazy good!they give you a lot. they're also super fresh, delicious and seasoned... Stopped in for Sunday dinner with friends. There were 5 of us in our party. We received very good service. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. The restaurant has a great family vibe and is very comfortable. Lots of seating and a separate room for a large group gathering. Bar area is very nice and a great space to have drinks while enjoying for food and drinks while watching games with friends. Got the all you can eat ribs and they were very good. Came with salad and side. I loved the blue cheese dressing and green beans. Ribs weee tender and sauce was good-not too sweet. Pass on the pretzel bites. They come out over cooked. We used to go to Hickory House in Reynoldsburg during our childhood and it was amazing! So we needed a place to go for our holiday party and I said hey, let's try the Hickory House in Gahanna. The cocktails were amazing and the food was fantastic! If I had anything to say at all, I would say that the old 20 or 22 ounce Porterhouse is so much thinner now. I would rather pay more money and get a thicker steak. But it was cooked to perfection and delicious. We also had onion straws, which were done perfectly and had lots of other appetizers. Lots of people loved the cheese curds. If you haven't been here in a while, you really should try it out. We all left Happy. read more

We stopped by the Hickory House one afternoon after an OSU game. While we did not have a wait time to be seated, our server shortly became occupied with a large party in the banquet room - so the service that we did receive was super slow. Please see my notes on our food below: Complimentary Bread - The bread was good! It was warm, thick, and chewy. Hickory Chips - These were a little too salty for me. With a little less salt - these would have been great! These are house made chips topped with melted cheese, real bacon bits, and house made BBQ sauce. Meatloaf Melt - This would have been perfect without all of the additional toppings - the lettuce, tomato, and onion. Typically, I love additional sandwich toppings; however; this melt would have been perfect with just the toasted sourdough, meatloaf, and provolone cheese. Sweet Potato Waffle Fries - I really enjoyed these! Beef Brisket Sandwich (husband) - There was very little brisket on the hoagie bun. My husband would have like more brisket on the sandwich. I've been here well over 100 times since it opened. The food is always great! On this trip I ordered the NY Strip, baked potato, and salad. The salad was iceberg lettuce with tomatoes, cucumber, and egg noodles. The baked potato was old... you can taste when they've been in the warmer too long.... But was served with a tasty sour cream and chive combo. The steak was delicious! Cooked exactly as I expected, with a char on the outside. The server was AMAZING! He took an order for four people all their changes, and it came out perfectly. Our glasses were full, and additional needs quickly handled. I used the restroom and is getting dated. We were starving after my little one's ballet lessons and I didn't want to cook. I texted my husband to meet us at Hickory House because it was nearby, and I heard great things about it on a FB group. Of course we stopped by the restroom immediately because...Kids. The bathroom was dated, but it was odorless and each surface was clean. There was plenty of soap and paper goods. My husband said the men's bathroom floor was sticky, but I can't vouch for that. We were promptly seated on a Monday night, around 7 PM. There were a total of 8 occupied tables. I only saw one server, Trinity, and she was a doll. The staff was well-groomed with good manners, but the service/ pacing of the meal was off. Our server took our drink order, but not our appetizer order at the same time. Our dinner salads and bread came out after what seemed like forever, but like I said, we were hungry. I would have loved to have the bread while we looked over the menu. I was disappointed the bread and salad came before our appetizer, but I was glad to get SOMETHING. We ordered fried oysters as our appetizer, signature salads with house dressing, filet and rib combo, Porterhouse steak w/ mac & cheese, a kid's menu cheeseburger & fries, and a Hickory's Best cheeseburger with fries. The oysters' crust was delicate without too much batter, but so much sand that my younger daughter lost a loose tooth. I ate two oysters, but after seeing the first sandy oyster wasn't a fluke, I decided to spare myself further discomfort. My kids ate the rest because they clearly weren't offended. The salad was good, as salads go. I wouldn't order house dressing again because it didn't have a lot of flavor. Maybe oil and herbs? There were enough fried noodles and bacon to give the salad some taste. We were done with the appetizer & salads and we felt full. We wanted to pack up and go home, but our entrees arrived just before we lost our patience. The mashed potatoes were lumpy, could use salt, but seemed homemade and not out the box.The portions were heft, and I can't say I feel cheated. I ordered my Porterhouse steak cooked MEDIUM, but it was cooked well done. I struggle with eating steaks cooked that way, so I asked for a box. I don't generally send food back to the kitchen, lest I get the "special sauce". Husband ordered the rib and filet combo with the filet cooked medium well. His steak was cooked well done too. My macaroni and cheese was watery and not fit for a dog, but the presentation was nice enough. The kids liked their burgers and fries. The kids menu burger seemed just as big as the Hickory's Best. Cashing out was efficient; our tab for 2 adults, 1 teen, and one child was $131 +tip. I probably won't try this place again. Food was delicious, service needs work We had a reservation... still took almost an hour to be sat. We were sat at 6:30 and didn't receive entrees until 7:45. For an appetizer we selected the fried mushrooms, they were not only huge, but also delicious. Salads were standard, the dressing was brought out in pre-portioned cups which IMO weren't quite enough to get full coverage for the entire salad. I ordered the Porter House (Med) with a side of macaroni and cheese, the steak that was delivered to me was med-well. After getting it swapped out I very much enjoyed my steak. The max and cheese was better than expected. All in all the food was good enough to give Hickory another shot, but it'll be a while before that happens as I want to ensure they have time to get their logistics and training in order before I give them anymore of my money. read more

It's been well over 20 years since I last remember visiting the Hickory House and I pass it several times a week to my hiphop fitness class. My husband found it and wanted to try it and I knew where it was but again, it had been a very long time since I had visited. Filet medium both with shrimp. Mine had added sautéed onions and mushrooms and his had bleu cheese. SO GOOD! The bread and butter shared in advance was amazing. Salads were plentiful and I had onion rings as my side and he had Mac and Cheese. All of it so filling and so good. Bartender was wonderful. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! would give 0 stars if able My significant other and I made reservations for 7pm. We drove over an hour to arrive, only to be told they didn't have the reservation nor a table available. The restaurant was rude and disrespectfu, not only to us but to other customers (elderly group of ladies and another family). We were told that there was one booth available but the server had 3 large parties. So our wait would be significant. We did our part in making the reservation their lack of follow through is terrible. On a work trip some coworkers and I decided to try it. Heard from locals it was good. Needless to say we left hungry because everyone's food was wayyyyy tooo unbearable to eat. The waiter was rude. We waited 45 minutes for drinks, 2 hours for food, and received over cooked and awful tasting steaks, charred ribs, and a bbq burger with no bbq sauce as was listed on the menu. I ate here last night for a work dinner. The restaurant was not very crowded but service was painfully slow... I figure ok maybe because there are 12 of us or they're understaffed so that is understandable. So, looking past this I have to say I was disappointed with my drinks and the food. The interior is a little bit tired so that doesn't make for a great ambiance. My order was VERY simple. I had a dirty martini and for my meal a Caesar salad. Literally just a Caesar. After work for some quick apps with my man and brother in law, before he flew out for work. Yummy...the blackened grilled shrimp skewers were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Wings plentiful and large with the sauce on the side. Nice and crunchy. Fried oysters lightly breaded that were large as well. But that was a one time purchase...my man didn't care for them. Last were the ribs, PERFECT came right off the bone whole with plenty of sauce that was sweet but not too sweet. The bartender was friendly and attentive without being on top of us. Second time eating here for lunch and no improvement from the first. Waited 20 minutes after being seated before we saw our server. Ordered fish and brisket. The fish was edible but the brisket was super fatty and smothered in BBQ sauce. The bathroom was dirty and disgusting. Completely unacceptable at anytime during the day, but even more so since it was just opening up for lunch. Been meaning to check these guys out for a while and decided today was it. Of course you have to try the Onion Straws. They were nicely seasoned and crispy, served with a warm barbecue sauce. Very tasty, probably would have been better off ordering a full order of these and just snacked on them. But ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and comes with fries and a pickle. The pulled pork was very fatty and had very little texture and then soaked in a sauce that had very little flavor to it. To me they would have been better off pouring the sauce for the Onion Strings over the pork. The fries were homemade and lightly fried. Delicious!!!The Ice Tea was nicely made, not the overly harsh flavor that some places have. Fresh lemons come with each glass. We needed a new place to eat to have our belated anniversary dinner. We didn't need any place fancy and I preferred something where we could get a reservation as we were going on a Saturday night. Good thing we had one even though we went quite early. There were people waiting to be called and with our reservation - we walked right past them and were seated. The waitress was good and kept my diet Pepsi filled. $2.50 for sodas - not good but not bad. She was quite attentive, took our drink orders and returned with the sourdough bread. It was nice and crusty and warm. I got the BBQ chicken salad but with grilled chicken and not the tenders on the menu. Oil and vinegar came in cruets. Hubby got the half slab and was hopeful they were good - last time he ate them elsewhere they were disappointing so he was in the mood for some good ribs. The salad as BIG as advertised. Lots of mixed greens, fresh veggies and a fair amount of chicken. The BBQ sauce was fine - not too much and fairly flavorful. I'm guessing they have one sauce they use for ribs and all. Overall, the salad was good. Not great or best ever, but solid. Hubby said the ribs were very good. He also ordered the sides of cole slaw and hash browns. He ate all the slaw and most of the hash browns so I'd say he definitely liked them too. I had the $5 Yelp discount - the bill still came to about $40 total with tip and tax. I don't know that we'll return as we would rather go to other favorites when returning to a place we've been before - but I would not hesitate to come with others if they chose to eat here. The first thing I notice about the restaurant is it's dark and got a semi-old school feel to it. I sat myself in the bar/lounge area. Several other reviewers were correct in the fact that service seems a little slow. No matter, I'm in no hurry and they have some great 60's/70's playing. Ordered a beer that they happened to be out if, again, no big deal, ordered something else. It was cold with is always a plus. The house salad came out, nothing special, some iceberg lettuce, onions, wedge of tomato and rice noodles. I ordered ranch dressing that was supposedly housemate. Tasted fine but really thin. The server asked if I wanted bread to go with the salad, but apparently she forgot as I never got it. Ordered the ribeye and a baked potato. The ribeye was good. Not great, but good. I do like that that they got a nice char on it and the fat was rendered nicely. Again, good, but not great. The potato as well was your average baked potato. Overall, good. While, in Columbus this past week I remembered the Hickory house. I visited the Reynoldsburg location and it was just as I had remembered it, a very rustic looking restaurant well suited to the menu. I ordered the full rack of ribs with a salad and house dressing, and baked potato. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The ribs were literally fall off the bone tender. No sauce was presented with the dinner, but there was no need for it. The perfect amount of barbecue sauce was glazed onto the ribs. Ok we are done with that.. the sandwich is very savory. Fries are good you can't taste the brisket on first bite but the second bite you get hints of it. It's a thinly sliced brisket on like a grilled cheese sandwich . So if you are looking for a Smokey brisket flavor you won't get that. But you will get a savory sandwich. It doesn't have a Smokey tastes like a smokehouse meal. It's a savory grill cheese. The homemade bbq sauce is memphis quality. The sauce is A plus. The homemade salad dressing was also a big star sweet and sour onion dressing is A plus. The star of the night . The garlic mashed potatoes were ok. Needed more butter but it was ok. The ribs and shrimp. Ok did I say the long island was good. Ok on to the next. The grill shrimp is perfectly seasoned. Not over cooked at all. The ribs are very tender and I'm not a rib person. However don't expect a very Smokey taste like at smoke house. You won't get that. However you will get a good tasting rib meal. Again the bbq sauce is special. It's the highlight.
