Cute spot in downtown Lafayette surrounded by a bunch of cafes--The Hideout has a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating. More people were choosing to sit outside, and there was a wait, so we ended up indoors. Surprisingly, it was really popular and busy for a Monday lunch! Service was excellent. Our server checked in regularly and kept our water glasses topped off, which I really appreciated. Food did take a bit longer to arrive since they were bustling, but it was worth the wait. Steak Salad was phenomenal--perfectly cooked to medium-rare. I swapped the balsamic vinaigrette for their lemon vinaigrette since I'm not a balsamic fan, and it worked perfectly. Honestly, I wish more places offered a steak salad this good. The Linguini and Clams was solid and came with a generous amount of clams, but it didn't really wow me. The Roasted Chicken Panini with sweet potato fries was delicious! The basil aioli really brought the sandwich together--such a great flavor combo. If you love brisket and BBQ, don't sleep on the Smoked Brisket Panini. It was loaded with multiple cuts of brisket and packed a punch. Overall, their paninis are definitely worth sharing. I love that the portions here are great for family-style dining--you can try a bit of everything without feeling stuffed. Definitely coming back to try more! Excellent service! Daniel was so warm and friendly! Just loved his personality and so helpful. Food - brunch menu is super yummy and so many wonderful choices. I wanted to try to Ube pancakes but I went the more savory route. Breakfast burrito was large sharable. Also the sandwich large portion and sharable. We were celebrating our sister's birthday so they brought her a complimentary dessert. Such a cute and cozy indoor outdoor space. Patio perfect to sit on a sunny day. Love the surrounding area. Came here for brunch on a Saturday around 11:30. We had a reservation for a party of 4 so we were seated right away but it wasn't too crowded at that time; I feel like we could've walked up too. The location of this restaurant is great, walking distance to many nearby shops. There is a parking lot across the street with metered parking. Service was great and we all enjoyed our meals but weren't blown away by anything. The eggs of the bennies were cooked perfectly though. All of the drinks were tasty. I expected more from this place based on all the great things I've heard, but unfortunately it missed the mark for us. My husband and I came in for dinner and started with the honey bourbon wings and the grilled octopus. The wings were just okay, nothing memorable, and the octopus was chewy and clearly overcooked. For our entrées, my husband ordered the blackened salmon and thought it was decent but overly salty. I ordered a salad with apples, cranberries, and walnuts (I can't remember the name) and added chicken. For an extra $7, I was really disappointed with the amount and quality of the chicken. It was very thin, dry, and not worth the upcharge. Service also fell short. No one came by to refill our waters, and when our appetizers were dropped off, we weren't given napkins or silverware. Halfway through dinner, the staff opened the windows and door because the restaurant had gotten so smoky inside, which wasn't exactly pleasant while trying to eat. Came here on a Monday at 11am for brunch for our anniversary. We only got the lunch menu and were told they only have brunch on the weekends. We asked for recommendations and told the host we are celebrating our anniversary . She said "oh, we need to get you some dessert today" Lunch was good. The food was good. We had the honey fried chicken and the pork silog with garlic rice. Right off the bat I could tell that the chefs have high cooking skills and everything was cooked really well. The flavors are well put together and the textures were great and ingredients were great. However, I personally would have loved a little more seasoning on both dishes. Overall really good food. The service could have been better. We came in on monday (memorial day) at 12:30. We got seated right away but got seated at the bar area which is where the problem was. We had no waiter assigned to us and had to ask random staff to call a waiter after 15 min. They kept confusing our order and weren't very attentive throughout. Food took a while to come out also. The ambiance is your typical rustic look with typical pop music playing. We were at the bar so there was a lot of chatter around us and lots of TV playing sports. There was a thin slice of brisket on each biscuit....one was all fat. The eggs were overcooked, essentially hard boiled. If you like eggs Benedict, that takes the fun out of a good brunch. I asked for fries, they brought me sweet potato fries. No biggie, but the replacement French fries NEVER arrived. So, no potatoes. We loved the food. There was a surprise to find a Filipino dish Pulled Lork Silog. It was crispy Shredded pork shoulder, garlic fried rice topped with a sunnyside egg and peppered gravy. The gravy was a different touch, but overall a delicious entree. I would order this again The waffle sandwich had a great presentation, but the person who ordered it said, he would have preferred just a chicken and waffle combination. This was a chicken fried steak, cheddar, easy egg sandwiched between two waffles, sausage gravy , butter and powdered sugar . The side was tattertots, which is always a treat!! The ube hotcake cakes were good especially with lots of syrup. The person who ordered this thought the pancakes were dry, but lots of syrup helped him eat it. Smoked Salmon Benedict was very delicious and the person who ordered this said she loved the flavor and she would definitely recommend this version of Eggs Benedict. The food here is actually pretty good no complaints on that part. Everything we've tried has been flavorful and well prepared. However, the service really needs improvement. From the host staff to the waiters, the experience is consistently slow and disorganized. There's almost always some kind of mistake, and it takes a long time to get attention or follow-up. Also, the person who brings out the food (a food runner) often seems to be in a bad mood. There's a particular staff member (Hispanic guy with glasses) who comes off as very unfriendly and almost throws the plates onto the table, which makes the experience uncomfortable. On top of that, they charge a 3% "hospitality fee," but unfortunately, the hospitality just isn't there. We came here on a weekend day in the early afternoon. The place was packed but luckily there were high tables available for us to sit at so we were seated quickly. We had called ahead about 10 minutes prior and told the same thing, and made our way there. Parking in downtown Lafayette is all metered and it can be tricky to find parking on weekends but possible with some circling. We ordered the curry chicken wrap and the waffle sandwich. We found that the meat in each of these dishes were pretty bland. The fries and breakfast potatoes were also on the soggier end, including the Parmesan on the Parmesan fries, which was very soggy. I wasn't a huge fan of my plate and it also was not filling. I would try other things, but I would not be in a rush to get back. The servers are all very on top of clearing tables -- in fact we had multiple different people clear our plates while we were there. They are a high capacity restaurant with most seats filled. It was pretty busy there and so you're not going to get a cozy diner experience if that's what you're looking for. Lastly, they include a 3% hospitality fee on all bills. read more

My wife and I, as well as several friends, have eaten at the Hideout for years. Initially at the old location, and more recently at the new location at Fiesta Square. In general, the food and ambience have been to our liking and we enjoyed the overall experience. Several weeks ago my wife and I went there for a casual dinner. It was a weekday around 7:30. There were very few people in the restaurant. We each had a hamburger and two drinks. The total bill, including tip, was $126. This felt excessive. And it was exacerbated by the addition of a $4 "Hospitality Fee". The service was very spotty, and our server was not attentive. Given the cost, the lack of even reasonable service and the rather poor ambiance, we both concluded we'd hold off going there for the foreseeable future. Then, six weeks later we made plans to join our daughter's family for Sunday brunch. She suggested we meet at the Hideout. Rather than bring up our negative experience from the prior visit, we simply agreed to join them there. We had a reservation for 12:45 PM. When we arrived, the restaurant was jammed and there was a waiting list for those without reservations. We waited 10 minutes to get our table which was not, in itself, a problem. We were seated in the inside large room. It was extremely noisy, which surprised us for that time of day. It became immediately apparent that the wait staff was stressed. Our waiter was attentive and took our drink orders quickly. Unfortunately, it took 10-15 minutes to get the drinks delivered. Our mistake then was that we didn't order our meals when the drinks came. When we finally ordered the food, I noted that the waiter didn't write anything down (oh oh!) There were 6 of us, each with a different order. 5 minutes after ordering, the waiter came back to get clarification on 2 of the orders...no surprise. Needless to say, the food took forever to arrive. The waiter came by a few times to apologize for the wait as the kitchen was "backed up". At one point we pointed out to the waiter that we'd been waiting an hour for our food. He said he'd check that (??). He left and came back saying he confirmed it had actually only been 50 minutes. Huh? When the food finally arrived, three of the dishes had issues; potatoes instead of salad, no powdered sugar on the pancakes, and cold French fries. We asked for salt and pepper and it never arrived. The waiter was apologetic and offered free desserts, which we declined as we had to get on to other activities. The bill again included the "Hospitality Fee", which seemed annoying, but oh well. Everyone concluded that it was an unpleasant experience and the food was mediocre at best; we likely wouldn't come back anytime soon. But this is not the end of the story. When we were saying goodbye to one another outside the restaurant by the outside seating area, a huge gust of wind came up a blew over a very large umbrella. It nearly brained my son-in law. That wouldn't have been so bad in itself (haha), but when the half dozen or so cockroaches scurried out from under the umbrella and ran under tables and other umbrellas where people were sitting, that pretty much sealed it for us. We will need to get lots of positive reviews from friends and other sources before coming back. We hope that will be the case. read more

I can make two constructive comments on the lunch friend and I had there the other day. The bread that came with the bread and butter was toasted to be harder than the table top. It shattered when broken. And the steak on the steak salad was 4 thick pieces impossible to cut as they lay over the soft gentle pillow-like lettuce salad underneath. While I did enjoy my time here at the Hideout Kitchen, I found the food was just okay. My husband and I were curious to see what it was like here after looking at all the positive reviews. I ordered the classic benedict, and my husband ordered the waffle sandwich. He said it was just okay, and I also agreed on the flavors of my meal as well - that it was just okay. It wasn't something we nodded our heads on and said "Mmmm..." Out of curiosity, we also decided to try out the brioche french toast which was all just... okay. It was a meal that made us full but not something that encouraged us to be like, "We need to come back here for brunch another day!" As for the service, our waiter was very friendly, however I think he forgot about us. Our french toast came out first, and my husband and I shared it while we were waiting for our other two orders (the benedict and sandwich). By the time our other foods got to us, we were a little disappointed because our meal was not hot, I wouldn't even say it was even warm... It was as if the food was cooked fresh and when it arrived to us, it had cooled down. :( The environment of the restaurant is very relaxing. The lights are dimmed and it is quite lively. My cousin was in town and it happened to be her birthday so we had to find a great brunch place. Yelp did not disappoint to lead us to The Hideout Kitchen located in the lovely downtown of Lafayette. Our server was so attentive and kept conversing with our table especially the kiddos with us which was a plus! We ordered a variety of their brunch items. I couldn't decide between the brisket biscuit Benedict sandwich and the pulled pork silog and the server said go with the silog. I was happy I did because it was amazing! Pulled pork was very tender and the sauce they had with paired so well with the dish. Luckily for me one of my cousins ordered the brisket biscuit Benedict and that was good as well. A star of my dish was the roasted vegetable medley (Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms and onions). So I heard this place is under new ownership/management. The host was very amicable and accommodating for outdoor seating on a gorgeous sunny January day. Everything on The menu looked amazing! I decided on the breakfast waffle sandwich with chicken fried steak and the flavors did not disappoint!! The gravy sauce was really tasty and meat wasn't overly breaded - although I was surprised the gravy had a heavy portion of ham bits in it- still good! My friend ordered the tuna melt and she was pleased and also surprised to see grapes in her sandwich but didn't seem to bother her. Also the loud bass of the background music was annoying and made conversation difficult. The hostess said that she was not able to change the bass balance.
