We were a little apprehensive at first at the prospect of cooking our own steaks, but we are really glad that we took a chance! The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and walk you through the process. First you stop by the butcher case and pick your sides (which are prepared and cooked for you and brought out) and your meat- I opted for a filet mignon. Then, you take your meat to the grill. Seasonings and butter are provided, as well as thick slices of white bread to grill your own Texas toast. There are cooking time recommendations listed on the wall for those who are new to grilling. There is also an all-you-can eat salad bar with many delicious toppings. My only disappointment was that the prime rib had been discontinued (this you wouldn't make yourself for obvious reasons), but the cut of meat that I grilled was tender, the experience was fun and one-of-a-kind, and I would highly recommend giving it a shot! read more

This is such a fun experience if you're looking to mix things up a bit. This is a "choose your meat and cook it yourself" kind of deal. The quality of the cuts is fantastic and they have plenty of seasonings to choose from. Don't worry if you're not sure what you're doing, there are directions posted! Every meal here also comes with an all you can't eat salad bar which is fantastic, but you pay extra for any sides (asparagus, potato, fries etc) that you want aside from the salad bar. I would totally suggest grilling up some of the salad bar veggies and making some Texas toast with the bread and butter they have at the salad bar!! We didn't have the chance to do this ourselves but we saw others doing it and thought it was a fantastic idea if you don't feel like paying extra for warm sides!! Over all a great experience...except the bathrooms...unless you like sitting behind a curtain that's resting on tops of your knees and feeling like you've been transported to the 70's, I would suggest going at home before you arrive. We have been coming to the mint for the last 15 years and the food is always great but this time the service by the host was despicable to say the least. Owner I'm assuming since he would have been fired for his rude, short tempered, and disrespectful attitude. I recommend he puts Someone besides himself to be the host. We made reservations and upon getting there he yelled at a group of about 15-20 people waiting and then apologized to us. I was okay with that because I know it's stressful with COVID and what hoops you have to go through these days and our group of 4 were seated and our waiter "T-bone" was very professional and gave us excellent service as well as a grey headed women. We had to wait for about 25 to 30 minutes to cook our steak since there was a party of 12 in front us along with 2 other groups. Everything was fine was grateful that it was opened and did not mind the wait. We were finishing up and eating dessert and this is when it started getting weird. The host came over and said something like "good your finishing up and on dessert" I new they were busy and we are fairly quick eaters and we were trying to wrap up. In fact we were finished way before the 4 groups in front of us. I paid the 200 plus bill and my wife was finishing up when our waiter came over and said I was told to tell you we have other people waiting. We were literally 1 min away from a perfect birthday meal for my wife. I told the waiter "are you kidding, we finished before every group in front of us". I tried to talk to owner going out but he wanted nothing of it- a real jerk. This has been my first bad review ever. Hire a new host. This place has potential, maybe. Food isn't bad, but service really brought down the whole night. It is a different setup-you cook your own steak/seafood and then some veggies. So, if you're a terrible cook, you definitely won't like your food as much. They do give you tips on how long to cook your steak and seasonings/sauce for cooking the food. We all cooked our own and the food was good and most people felt it was worth the price for the cut of meat. The salad bar comes with the meal and is standard. Service started off fine, but became disorganized and slow just bringing sides and drinks. At the end of the night, it took over an hour to get our checks and a lot of people had extra sides charged (we didn't say anything cause it took so long just to get a check). Horrible dining experience! Came here on my birthday. After finding out I had to make my own steak (probably not a good idea to let me cook anything lol), I couldn't get too mad because we were passing through and probably should've known if I were local..??? However, then we met the waiter, who was practically sweeping us out the door the moment we sat down. My boyfriend told him it was my birthday and we were all excited about having some good steak. The waiter didn't seem to care much and he gave us the run down real quickly. Then I found out I had to make my own salad too, which is OK but I kind of wanted to sit and relax. After very vague direction, we wandered up to the meat counter/ cooler case and I was kind of shocked at how much one steak was. We informed him (another person behind the counter who was more concerned about hanging out with his buddies behind the bar) we were going to split one and my boyfriend decided to just get the shrimp skewer(the cheapest thing in the case) and the guy got all mad and kind of made us feel embarrassed because we didn't get 2 steaks! He said he had to charge us for an extra salad bar fee?? It was an awkward moment. Needless to say, my steak turned out terrible because I am not a great cook and by the time I asked for help it was too late. The fries I ordered were hard ( I didn't have to cook them) and they never once acknowledged that is was my birthday. The bathroom didn't even have stall doors it was a curtain that sat in my lap! I didn't like that. We paid way too much for what we got... The waiter hurried us out from start to finish. Just had the worst dining experience of my life. My wife and I went for the prime rib. Happy hour was advertised as 4:30-6:00 so we arrived early and started with drinks. My wife ordered a whiskey sour and I ordered a local micro brew which I expected would be on tap since it was listed as one of three local beers served. My beer arrived in a bottle and they brought her a bourbon and water. When the waiter returned we told him it was not what she ordered. He offered to have the bartender try again but she said to just bring her something that was on the menu---a strawberry dacquiri. Even though the place was almost empty we waited and waited. Finally the bartender returned with a tall glass of pink slush and asked if she wanted whipped cream on top of it. We thought he was joking until she tasted it after he walked away and discovered there was no alcohol in it. They still charged us $5.50 even though it was happy hour. My beer cost $5.00. We killed time at the salad bar waiting for the prime rib to be ready. The salad bar was mediocre and probably violated the health code since a lot of the items were uncovered. The silverware was crummy. The tines of the fork were so dull they would barely punch through my cherry tomatoes. We told the waiter we wanted prime rib and showed him the ad promising a super deal with the ad. He said the prime rib was $2 per ounce and the smallest cut was 10 oz. We asked to share one cut and he convinced us to get a 12 oz. He did warn us there was a $5.00 sharing charge, which was fine with us. We like rare roast beef but when this rib came it was so raw we had to throw half of it back on the grill. Also, he said it was over 12 oz. It came with nothing else on the bare plate. The waiter mentioned that he would be back with some au jus and horseradish but we finally started eating so our meat would not get cold. Eventually, another waiter did bring us those; then our waiter finally returned and asked how we liked the horseradish. I pointed out that it was hard to serve the au jus without a spoon, but he just laughed and went away, never to return. He also said, as we were halfway through our meat, that we had not ordered any sides. He had never mentioned sides until that moment, and I told him a potato would have been nice it was too late now. He disappeared with no apology. Another member of the staff seemed to recognize our displeasure and gave us a local discount on our drinks---$1 off per drink. Overall, the place was a huge ripoff, with quality restaurant prices for mediocre food and terrible service. We will never go back. read more

We were surprised we had to cook our own steaks. Decide to give it a shot, you're thinking if the food is good? Well of course! I cooked it. So if we cook then you'd think the service would be better since no one is cooking your food....we had to wave down our waiter a few times for his attention. The price was sky high when I can go to Costco and do the same thing for $100 cheaper. So because they only had small 10oz steaks we decided to split them for the 2 youngest kids. They charge us a extra $5 because of that. I'm sorry but for a big family and paid $200 for something I had to cook don't charge us for something trivial. Went to The Mint last night because of the ad in the Summit Daily. The place had some pros and cons. All in all , we enjoyed our time there. Our server was very welcoming, and checked on us often to make sure all was good. As one other reviewer said, the place was a bit run down. I understand it is "historic", but it could use a bit of TLC. I didn't know we would be cooking our own meat, so I wanted to make sure that I didn't ruin my steak. Fortunately, my boyfriend, knows how to do steak. Better to take it off earlier and put it back on. The steak was wonderful. Sides were over priced. Six dollars for 5 spears of asparagus is unreasonable. We did get a great price on the rib eye though because it was a "local's" special the night we went. The "free" (nothing is free really) salad bar was pretty good, but real bacon in a meat place would have been nice, instead of fake bacon, and I hate white bread out of a bag, and that is what it was. I do know some people love Texas Toast. Some nice rolls would have been better for me. Everything else on the salad bar was good and fresh. Being semi-locals, we will probably be back, but maybe next year. We did have a pleasant experience, so it is a 3 star, A-OK rating. It's old and and has potential, but when only 3 tables come through during prime dinner time on Sunday evening, it's obvious this concept is not working. The staff were friendly, but I had to go ask for our check because the server didn't come back. The food. Well, the salad bar was nice and very traditional, down to the 1000 Island dressing. The meats offered were nice, quality, but mostly plain. The sides were extra. So, you pay $14.95 for a plain, raw chicken breast, no sides. Just salad. I cooked my plain chicken breast with the option of a few spices. Or Teriyaki glaze. That's it. If you can't tell, we were all disappointed. I prepare meats better at home. Sorry, but I just don't see The Mint staying in business long. The competition in Summit Co is too fierce. read more

Loved this place! Small, but plentiful salad bar. Texas sliced bread that you butter yourself and put on the grill to toast! Pick out your own piece of steak (several cuts), fish (several varieties including trout, tuna, salmon and shrimp), or chicken. Take to the grill, season to your taste, and cook to the temperature you like best! There's even a sign on the wall telling you how long to leave on the grill depending on what you have. And don't skip dessert! I don't recall what the name of it was, but we had an ice cream ball rolled in cocoa, with chocolate and caramel drizzle and whipped cream, topped with almonds. YUMMY! Just got home after experiencing locals night! We own a timeshare in Dillon and saw the ad in the free local paper which was described earlier in a review where price is 2.99 for meat and also 2.99 for all you can eat salad bar. Our 1st mistake was not going early when they open at 5:00. They do not take reservations. We arrrived a little before 7:00 p.m. and it was a madhouse. Turns out there are two doors both on the front of the building. We went in the wrong one apparently because there was no host in sight. And people were coming in after we had been there through the other door,(north one) and getting their names in when we were still trying to figure out what the deal was. Another person waiting for a table explained there was a guy running around with a clipboard and to hunt him down to get on the list. He was very hard to find because he was taking names, seating people which also has an upstairs, AND bussing tables, which made it even more of a madhouse. It was packed with people waiting for tables in the bar area. We ended up sitting right at the south door,(wrong door to enter) with the door wide open and freezing to death. After some people lit up their cigs right outside the door we had had enough and shut the door but kept getting open when people would leave and we would again have to shut it. At one point a waitress came by and said my son looked like their bouncer sitting right at the door with his arms folded. He is a big guy and was dress in black like the staff. That was the only enjoyable part of the wait. After almost an hour, which was shorter than they had said because many people got tired and left, we finally got a table. Bad things: Couldn't get a salad plate unless you stood in an extremely long line at the butcher shop. They didn't bring clean salad plates for all you can eat salad refills so people were having to use their dirty plates to go back which was very disgusting. The salad bar was filthy due to so many customers and lack of enough help The serving spoons were sticky and very unappetising feeling after so many hands on them. . Butcher shop kept running out of steak and there was not a runner staff to refill, butcher guy had to leave a line of at least 30 people to go to the kitchen and get more steak. What a pain! Not much choice of meat. Only new york strip, shrimp kabobs, chicken pieces, and one type of fish. Very noisy, so packed you couldn't get to the bathrooms or around people with your raw meat. Our waitress was nice but had to hunt her down for refills on water. Good things: Only cost us 28.00 for 4 people excluding tip. Guys got 2 meats, sons girlfriend only got salad bar. Drank water. Tipped waitress pretty good even though we had to cook our meat and go to salad bar but she was nice and in a good mood. She told us next time to come early or late, it was clearing out a lot when we were leaving. Meat was good and if you could get over the sick feeling of watching people reusing their salad plates and the mess, the salad was good! Advice for The Mint: Get more help,it is impossible to have good service when one person is taking names, hosting, seating, bussing and running like a mad man up and down. There were empty tables all over but people not being seated because he couldn't keep up. Also, separate the main areas where people have to gather so it isn't so congested in one spot. Very poor planning on layout of place. We ate at the Minturn Country Club which is the same plan and it was so much nicer, quiet, and peaceful. If you enjoy cooking your meal, you will love this place. The all you can eat salad bar was great and had a pretty big selection. Then you pick your own cut of meat or sea food and grill it yourself. I don't' know about you, but I don't like to cook at home and I certainly do not want to cook while I am on vacation. It was also one of the most expensive dinners we had in town. Warning: You cook your Steak! Off the highway on the way to the ski resorts located in Silverthorne, The Historic Mint has a cool concept which is fun and can be great, but can also be depressing. When you walk in and get seated, you can pretty much start where ever you want. Options are either salad bar or meat case. My suggestion is to hit up the salad bar first and get that out of the way. Once you reach the meat case, you'll meet the butcher who will go through all the types of cuts of meat you can choose from and their prices. If you are lucky, you'll have an option to get unlimited prime rib that's already been prepared (I'll get to that in a minute). Once you pick out your cut of meat, you get it handed to you raw on a plate. From here you proceed to an actual grill located in the middle of the restaurant. Typically it can get very crowded here. The grill features some different sauces and seasonings that you may use. You are given some slight instructions about how hot the grill is but there's definitely a learning curve with any grill. The hot hot sections are directly in the middle with the lower heat sections on the outside. There's some suggested times posted on the wall for cooking but rarely are they accurate. At the grill, more than half the time your up there, there will be little kids flying around the grill. The big thing they do is take up space and cook up Texas toast. Everyone thinks it's a genius idea to take bread off the salad bar and toast it up with the steaks BUT it's been done. Although it's tasty, the bread takes up a lot of room on the grill. This is the tough part. Getting your steak to come out exactly how you want it. You either don't cook it enough and have to keep going back up while everyone else eats OR you over cook it and you waste a pretty penny on a bad steak. Both are depressing... Steaks depending on the cut run about $20 to $40 a cut. They also have chicken and fish available. Sides are ordered a la carte from the server which will have them out when you are finished cooking your steak. Beware the All You Can Eat Prime Rib! They only cook sooo much a day. We arrived at 6pm one evening and they told us they had plenty. So we went and ate salad and then when we went to order, even though they had half a roast just sitting there, we weren't allowed to order it in case people that already had some got more. Honestly this ruined the evening for us. The next year, we called ahead at 5:30pm to see how much they had and they were already out of it for the evening. My advice, up on going here, assume you will not be getting the AUCE Prime Rib. Don't get your hopes up. I think with parties of 5 or more, they charge 18% to 20% gratuity which kind of sucks because you do all the cooking and you prep your salad. BAH! Over all, it's a good experience. You can always just have them cook it for a small fee. read more
