Like a dive bar and a steakhouse had a one night stand and this is their child. It's a cook-your-own steak setup where you pick up the meat at the front counter and grill it to your liking. Do not, I repeat DO NOT pay attention to the sign next to the grill with cooking times for the different cuts. The sign suggested 7-8 min PER SIDE for medium rare on a 12 oz cut. I grilled mine 3 min per side and got a perfect med rare temperature. Following the sign would have ruined your cut. The aged NY strip was chewy. My friend who got the Cajun steak described it as marginal and seasoned by "someone who heard Cajun described once". Salad bar was your basic buffet-style salad bar, but was kind of dirty. Butter from the giant crock was flung out all over the counter leaving a giant mess. Our service was nice, which helped give this place three stars. Overall, marginal place. read more

My rating is based on our dinner experience. I am sure that John H. is spot on when he says the best way to enjoy this locals spot is to have an order of sweet potato fries and a cold PBR at the bar, but we opted to have an entire meal of food during my visit. Pretty much what everyone has said before me is correct and accurate about The Mint. While I actually enjoyed cooking my own steak, I found that the waitstaff only marginally helpful and they did not at all add to my enjoyment of our meal / experience. I guess that is what happens though when that 18 year old burnout can't move up from the salad station into the kitchen ... they end up waiting the tables. Anyway, the steaks were of high quality and while perhaps slightly overpriced for a "cook it yourself" joint the all you can eat salad bar, Texas toast and the reasonable prices for drinks and sides more than make up any price disparity for the main course. To be clear, I didn't care for our waitress but my group had a really fun time celebrating a birthday and was even able to retire to the bar for digestifs after our meal. If you are with a large group or it is a special occasion where an activity like gathering around a large communal grill sounds like fun and you don't happen to have a BBQ at your house then I highly recommend The Mint Historic. Otherwise I would opt for the Sweet Potato Fries and PBR at the bar and pick up some nice steaks to BBQ on your way home ... When I walked in, I thought this place wasn't going to be so great, but I like steak. This place is different, you have to cook your own steak or seafood. Once I sat down I got greeted by the waitress and she explained how everything worked. First, we had to go to the "Butcher Shop" which has its own neon light. You choose the steak or seafood you want all of which don't exceed $40. Then you head over to the grill, it has some seasonings and a glaze. I do wish there would be someone there to help give tips and pointers on how to cook a good steak. Once I ate it, I immediately thought 'wait, I cooked this' because it was juicy, tender and flavorful. Overall, if you're near Silverthorne I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

I first found this gen about 10 years ago on one of my annual Colorado ski trips. I pulled into the parking lot and went back 120 years in time! A horse was tied up in front! The atmosphere is great and unique since you grill your own steak. First you go to the front and choose your steak ( or chicken). Nice to have a beer in your hand as you create your dinner the way you like it. The NY strip was very good . Enjoyed the baked potato and broccoli too. A great salad bar is included. Unfortunately there was no room for dessert. Try this place just for the fun and great opportunity to teach your kids how to grill a steak... They'll have fun. read more

A wonderfully hokey bar / restaurant, the Mint features a slightly skewed restaurant model: you pick your meat, you grill it. Simple as that. You're first led past a slightly seedy watering hole, bear traps and other hunting paraphernalia lining the walls to a table, a long booth lining the wall. After you get your drinks and appetizers, a waiter / waitress gives you a ticket to pick your cut of meat at the very butcher's shop-esque display. The selection is good, and the meat itself is fantastic, ranging from simple sirloin to the most expensive Kobe beef (around $60). After receiving your cut, you move to a very large grill, rectangular in shape with ample space surrounding. At busier times, actually claiming a spot on and around the burner can be tough, but people tend to be nice and let you squeeze in. After you've cooked your meat to your heart's content, you sit down and eat it. Nothing fancy there. The Mint is a fun experience for anyone up in Summit County near Silverthorne or Dillon. Word of caution: this place is VERY vegetarian non-friendly. Not that vegetarians are shunned, only that there are next to no non-meat options, and those that do exist are appetizers. read more

Fan-freaking-tastic. Service was stellar, the concept of cooking your own entree is neat, and WOW what an entree! My wife & I stopped in this past weekend after a day skiing at Keystone. I'd read about it beforehand and knew I wanted to visit while we were out that way, and it did not disappoint. We both had the filet mignon (last two they had on hand, one of them had to be brought out from the back, in fact). I'm somewhat experienced on the grill, but would no way consider myself a grill MASTER.. however, the meat has a lot to do with the end product and this meat was GOOOOD. So good in fact, that my wife is claiming it to be the best filet mignon she's ever had. We also got a side order of steamed broccoli, which while not fancy was nicely prepared and had a nice subtle butteriness without being drown in it. The salad bar is also not fancy, but it's what a salad bar should be, a lettuce mix, a variety of toppings and dressing options. No other miscellaneous crap, no pasta salads, jellos, or other weirdness, just salad stuff. Perfect. It's included, and unlimited. Also at the end of the salad bar is very thickly sliced bread and a large crock of butter -- butter up some bread, take it over to the grill and toss some garlic powder on it, bam, instant garlicky 'texas toast' -- delish. Cool laid-back feel, in a historic building. Our server was very attentive, and the experience was great. I'm sure we'll be back at some point. It is different from pictures everything is dirty we called at 6pm and told us to be there at 7:30pm then we got there and had to wait 40 more mins even though we made reservations. Great Bar! If you're looking for a local bar to grab a few drinks before you go shredding the next day, this is the place. I asked a few locals where I could go grab a drink and beat the crowds, each time "the mint" was suggested. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try for Bone in Rib Eye or the local Trout, but I really enjoyed the friendly hospitality from the staff. We had gone there for the salad bar, needed something healthy and it didn't disappoint....one tip, for being a first class place why don't you serve real bacon bits instead of the hard imitation ones? We came here with a party of about 20, and we got sat down with a waiter who apparently was on her last day there and treated us like complete crap. Not only is this place cook and basically serve yourself, which makes the job of serving very easy and simple. The staff treated us very unfairly. The food was horrible, the heat on the cooker was very low heat and took forever to cook the steaks. The salad bar seemed like everything had been sitting there for a while. I would just completely avoid going there. They also would not split the checks how we liked which made it difficult for everyone to pay their bill. read more

The historical mint! Moved and relocated to a different area this dive on the outside is a Jem on the inside. Stop in for a delicious drink with Matt at the bar, or ask Ej for a little historical info and he might show you the bullet holes from a gun fight back in the day. I came here with family after a long day of skiing, I needed mass amount of protein and it was a family member birthday so we decided to give this place a try based on the good reviews it got on yelp. Interesting concept. Basically you pick out a steak and grill it yourself and everything is a la carte. Decor was rustic to say the least and the prices were on par for Mortons, which was quite shocking. $30 or more for most steaks, so be prepared to spend around 50 bucks a person. The steaks are dry aged to perfection, I had a hand cut ribeye 16oz with a baked potato. I will say its pretty fun to grill it yourself. My meal was very tasty, but it should be since I am a grill master. I'm not sure how I feel about this joint..... its OK for the main course... steak that you pick out at the meat counter...you can't complain about how the steak was done because you cook it.... sides are average and salads are from salad bar hell... Service is pleasant, there is a reasonable wine list of OK value so there is really nothing to complain about if you're looking for a C+ steak house. I guess I was just grossed out watching guys grilling slices of Texas toast into oblivion. Gotta keep exploring the wilds of Silverthorne for something better. The idea that you cook your own meat is cool... But I went with a group of 100 people, and waiting for the meat to cook was very uncool. I tried to cook the snapper, and that snapper will not cook if it's at the edge... and the person helping cook didn't tell me that until I asked. (then he helped me finish cooking it, which was great.) The spices on the snapper wasn't that great either. The sweet potato fries were ok... the artichoke dip and calamari were mehhhhhhhh... When we got here, there was a firetruck here. Apparently just moments before, there was a small fire... and I heard white stuff was still dripping down the ceiling and onto some meat during cooking time. Called and made a reservation for 7:30 for a group of 5, traveled an hour. Arrived early got seated, 5 minutes later owner asked us if we could move to a 4 person table due to a bigger party that needs our table, I told him we weren't gonna fit at the 4 person table. We ordered our drinks and appetizers, went and got our food from meat counter and cooked it on their grill (30 mins). Went and sat down to eat noticed we hadn't gotten our drinks or any appetizers, finished our steaks with no drinks and server brought us our appetizers and said they have plenty of to go boxes for our appetizers. There was a confrontation between the bigger group and owner, the owner told them that we wouldn't move and he had our table prepared for them. So we sat the whole dinner in awkward silence due to the other table being next to us. I asked to speak to the owner and he left out the back door, I hung around for a couple minutes for someone to tell me he left right before we paid. While I was waiting the bartender kept yelling we don't care where you came from you need to leave. At no point we're we disrespectful to anyone in their establishment. As an out of towner I would not recommend eating here due to the owner and how he presented himself to us. read more

We called to make a reservation and the man (supposedly the owner) , per shorter bald man, that "helped"us , told us over the phone that we didn't need to make a reservation that if we came in around 5 we would be able to get seated because after that they get crowded. However, We showed up at 5:30 and were greeted by a grumpy little man and a tall bald man telling us there was no room until 845 that there was no way they could sit us but in a rude tone. Again, We tried to explain to them that we called prior and whoever answered the phone this is what he told us & we repeated exactly what we were told over the phone. And again they were rude to us; we even said they could break up our party of 8 to four and four since they said if we were s smaller group maybe.. Really disappointed since this was our first night & we were looking forward to trying this quaint place. So, I can't place review on the food quality but I will place this review on horrible customer service. read more
