I try to make it here every time I visit my parents (4X/year). I have gotten to know the bartender Nicole (she hails from Newport Beach) and she is banging. Good tequila selection and ice cold beer. I recommend the sliders, garlic fries and fish and chips. I have always met cool people here. One night I met this wack chick who does body piercings. She told me she pierced herself by her vagina. Bought me a shot of Jameson and I reciprocated. Then she dragged me and my friend (with her wack friends to another bar by Wienerschnitzel). We ended up ditching her after she walked in the other bar and we said we were going to get a smoke - LMAO The place is kinda kooky. You can play board games in the back. Yesterday's venture took me to the hob knob . I was immediately drawn in by the fried chicken sandwich on their window. Bartender was super nice, great customer service. There was outdoor seating with a nice turf set up for a hot afternoon like yesterday. it was nice to be able to sit comfortably and enjoy a meal. they have an small section OFF the main sidewalk which was nice. When the bartender brought the food He was very pleasant. He brought it out in a standard covid to go set up The presentation of the sandwich was Amazing ! It was not spicy, something I was looking forward too. It Looked wonderful, was not too messy but juicy enough to tell it had a lot of flavor ! The chicken was dark meat, cooked well. The breading was not too crunchy or to flaky it was just right. The fries were nice and crispy with garlic salt. Napkins included. Overall bill $25 including tip for 1 sandwich 1 fries 1 beer Overall a 5 star experience The only reason I am personally rating this a 4 out of 5 is because the chicken sandwich was glazed with a sweet tangy sauce. Something I was not use to. In way it was like eating orange chicken sandwich with a bun and coleslaw from an Asian restaurant. The bartender said they change the flavor each week, when he started to list the flavor I was saddened because I would have chosen the buffalo or Nashville instead of the Korean barbecue glaze. People were definitely having fun - At least 3 different parties broke a glass during our meal. One wonders with such generous mimosas, how many glasses they have to replace each weekend??? Food was great overall. Smoked salmon omelette was good, but nothing special. Their fish n chips and truffle fries are amazing, however. Also look for the specials. For us, the special was a fried chicken waffle sandwich with sausage gravy which was YUUUGE. Wow I swear it was bigger than my head. Service was wonderful - attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely amazing. The Fried Calamari was delicious! The Truffle Fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp. The Wings....The Buffalo Reaper sauce not only great spice but so much flavor as well as the BBQ flavor. Main course... Brie Burger so so good! Ordered it Medium and it was perfect. As well as the Max and Cheese had that perfect golden brown top. Kudos to the Chef and owner. Seems like they take great pride in what they do! I will say the ambiance of this restaurant is very cute, however, upon entering you get a warm welcome of a smell similar to the pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney. The service on the other hand is great, it has a nice small hometown feel, and they are very attentive. I used to join a friend here for Thursday night karaoke... and they've made an upgrade! Instead of flipping through books and filling out slips of paper to hand to the DJ, you can now walk up to a screen and search for song, artist, etc. I've never really gone here for the food, but their drinks are cheap. Went on Sunday during Sunday Brunch. You walk and and seat yourself. It was quite busy and we were lucky that a table had just left. For $10 in addition to any entree, you can opt for bottomless mimosas and our party of 4 all decided to do that. The champagne to OJ ratio was on point as we too often go to a bottomless place and it's more OJ than champagne but this was more like all champagne, splash of orange. Kudos for that. I had the biscuit and gravy w/ egg, I tried the lemon ricotta pancakes and chicken and waffles. Everything to me was pretty average. The food was tasty enough after a long wedding weekend in Napa when we just needed some hearty food but but it was still something left to be desired. Our waitress forgot about one of our meals and she was wasn't rude or anything but just very cut and dry and just not very good overall. Overall this place served as a fine place for my friends to spend time together before flying back home over some Sunday mimosas. Went here for Sunday brunch for their bottomless mimosas(with the fam) and was told that they don't serve them and not to look at the hobnob website because it belongs to a (casino????)I was so confused. The service was HORRIBLE our waitress had an attitude and was rolling her eyes and getting smart with us. The food was ok(not seasoned). No one in my group was satisfied with was they got. The only thing that was good was their drinks. After we all paid and my cousin wrote a paragraph on her receipt about how rude our waitress was. She walked up to me and said sorry but it did not feel real. We all agreed not to support that business for such rude behavior and we all should receive refunds. read more

Today we ordered the Brie Burger, Chilaquiles, Truffle Fries and Mimosas(bottle of champagne with a side of freshly squeezed orange juice) to go. Everything was hot and delicious. I've been coming here for years but it's lost its magic. I went to brunch last weekend and ordered the corned beef hash (amazing) but my sweetie's chicken and waffle was absolutely terrible. It was inedible. We didn't want to wait for cafe Jolie and went here against our better judgment (because we've been feeling the decline for awhile now). His awful food did us in though. No more. Check your diets at the door. Hobnob is a cozy little restaurant, in the middle of the cozy little town of Alameda. The restaurant is small, but it comes equipped with a full bar, and size doesn't matter once you have a few good drinks in you. Even though I didn't splurge on alcohol on this particular night, I did splurge on the food; the tasty, tasty food. I ordered the baked Macaroni and Cheese, because anytime you see a childhood classic revamped, it's a must try. And Hobnob did not disappoint with this dish. Like the restaurant, the dish was small, but the flavor was huge. The cheese was al melted together, covering the pasta, as well as providing a bath the pasta was soaking in. Normally I would have issues of my cheese being this much liquefied, but for some reason it works here. If you're wondering what a spoon is doing near a plate of mac and cheese, this is why. The bacon pieces were subtle, which was great. It was there to provide flavor backup, but they didn't out-perform anyone else. I don't remember tasting the broccoli, and I actually forgot it was in the dish until I looked at the menu again. Also on the table for the night was a dish of Brussel Sprouts, and Steph Curry Fries. The brussel sprouts took a turn from the way I'm used to seeing them prepared. They are shredded instead of halved, making it more of a salad (a big plus in my opinion). Again, one of the ingredients seemed to take the backseat on this dish as well (this time it's the blue cheese), but the almonds that were in the salad completely elevated the dish. The Steph Curry fries came out later than expected, on account of the waitress forgetting they were ordered, but once they arrived they were amazing. The curry aioli it comes with, which looks like mustard to me, was great. The service is average. I have no complaints about the waitress, other than the fact that she forgot about the fries until she was reminded. Overall though, this place is pretty spectacular. read more

Gone really downhill. Food, service, quality and the people that are hired. Was harassed by one of the bartenders to the point that I literally felt gross and unsafe. The chef seems to think she's the sh!t and that she doesn't need to change the menu nor accept criticism. She's not a Michelin rated chef nor anything but a short order cook. Give me a break. The fries are the only thing that's still good and the owner is nice. Wish it was still a place that tried, but they've gotten too comfortable. Walked in for a late dinner on a Monday night with my fiancé. We've always wanted to try this place out but every time we wanted to go, it was closed! We've always wanted to go around lunch on a weekday. Well, they don't open until 5 so were always out of luck. hah! There were plenty of tables open on this Monday night. It must be first come first serve because the sign on the front says to seat yourselves so I can see how it can be a problem if it gets busy but we had no problem that night. It was our lucky day! $1.50 sliders! I believe the waitress says it's every Monday. We ordered 6 to share along with the truffle fries & the arugula salad. The salad came out first. Very refreshing as it came with pears and a light vinaigrette. There were also pecans and some goat cheese. The sliders were small but really filling. The buns were fluffy - not sure if they make them in house? They were very simple with ketchup and a pickle. The best part had to be the truffle fries. I mean, I don't discriminate with any fry but these were hot, crispy & had enough truffle & cheese flavor. Drinks: I ordered the mayan mule. I love moscow mules because of the ginger beer but I do prefer tequila over vodka so this was perfect for me! So happy I finally got to try this place out. This is probably my favorite bar in Alameda. Prices are right and service is decent most of the time. I am frequent visitor here back in college but stopped due to many other options available to me with a car. I recently came back for brunch with my mother on Sunday morning, Jan. 1, 2017, New year Brunch? The lady who was supposed to be my server wasn't here so another lady came to take our drinks and orders. As we look through the menu, the blonde/red hair lady finally came by and was happy to take our order. Orders: 1. Truffle fries - my favorite here with their aioli sauce. 2. fresh fruit with yogurt and granola - was okay 3. Egg Benedict - Mom's favorite dish to order 4. Waffle - okay Throughout the meal, different ladies came by to check up on us. As we were finishing up we had a huge amount of left over and we tried to flag down our server but she was really busy with another table.....chatting. So when finally got her attention, I asked for a few boxes and some extra aioli sauce along with what's left she immediately told me that it's an extra charge which is fine but her attitude was a little off so I declined the offer. Another lady then stepped in after and said, she should have pack these up for you and not myself which I appreciate very much. She then continue to ask if there were anything that she could help me with and I said I would like some extra aioli sauce in the half filled container. Without a doubt, she made her way to get the aioli sauce for me. The attitude that the other lady gave me made me feel a little discriminated but the other definitely made it up and I would like to say Thank you very much. Hobknob needs to work on their delivery. I ordered the sliders, 3 beef sliders with cheese. Nothing special, should be fairly easy. They were ok tasting, but the pickles were bland and so were the onions. I requested if I could split my order of fries vs. spend $5.00 for each type and my waiter acted if I was from another planet. What was strange is that an order of fries was $5.00, and to order garlic fries it was $10.00 for both. Who pays that for fries? $10.00 not a good idea. Checklist: Brunch? Yes. Saturday AND Sunday AYCD Mimosas? Yes. Bacon? Yes. I think those are all the best things that a place can offer, all you can drink and bacon. Amazing find here in Alameda at Hobnob. It starts at 10am (Yelp hours are wrong) and you better come early to get yourself a sweet spot because they get busy. The food itself is superb and of the finest quality and pretty extensive for brunch, a little bit of everything. And then to top it ALL off, it's All-You-Can-Drink mimosas with the purchase of an entree per person (8). How amazing is this deal though? Too amazing to pass down because whether you're drinking one or eight- it's still the same price! The best part is that your glass is NEVER empty and the next one is always on the way. I love bringing friends here who have different interests in eating. I'm actually not that into breakfast food, but I love me some bacon. But food selection here is on point Current special is 1/2 order of the biscuits and gravy with two eggs AND fried chicken (13). The gravy is super flavorful and smothers the biscuit. Fried chicken is seasoned and breaded really well, not to mention juicy inside! Great portion to share or for yourself. Waffle (3.5) with powdered sugar is the best. It's not the big criss cross kind, but the small one so all the syrup that you pour in gets into to all the little squares. It's amazing fresh with butter. French toast (3) is the length of your your forearm! Sweet and soft, with a little crisp. One is more than enough to share, but you might not want to after a bite. Each bite is socked in syrup. Mini sliders are cooked medium rare, to a perfect medium rare might I add. Adding (2) worth of bacon is the BEST decision that I've made here. The buns are toasted and cheese is melted and comes with its own pickle. Grilled ham and cheese with black forest ham is the shit. I LOVE grilled cheese, and this one comes with ham and onions. I mean, where do they come up with all these ideas?! Fries are crispy and fried to perfection. UGH, I wish I could have everything on the menu but all the portions are just too well sized and it's hard to eat everything in sight. They also offer a variety of their menu as side options if you're looking for a smaller taster. It's an amazing find here in Alameda and I highly encourage you to stop by one of these weekends to start your day. Staff is amazing here, just as important as their food quality! read more

I've been here once before and it was so good I wanted to come back for Mother's Day. They were slammed and not enough staff to support the flow I totally get that. We waited for over an hour to get our food, as we had the luck of being a 2 top behind a large table. Someone came out and apologized which was nice, but then when we finally did get served my Benedict was cold and the English muffin was so hard it was difficult to cut it. That's ok though until I took a bite and it tasted burnt. I took one more bite and I just didn't want it after that. I asked for the check when we got our food to expedite our time there, but it didn't matter the waitress took my food back and never returned. Someone else asked if I wanted to check out and I said yes since we were sitting there for a while and I paid for a meal I barely tasted. I get it. There were slammed. My favorite brunch place in the Bay Area. If you haven't been to the Hobnob yet, you're missing out. It's such a relaxed and cozy atmosphere with great brunch & dinner options and great drinks. It's become our go-to spot and we don't even live in Alameda. We'll drive 20 minutes to get a good brunch and it's in a great location on Park Street - good for walking around after a meal too. I was so happy to hear that the Hobnob was reopening for pickup. We ordered lobster mac and cheese, kids cheesy pasta, and a couple of spicy strawberry margaritas. After week 9 of sheltering in place, it was just what we needed. The mac was creamy and decadent, the lobster was fresh, and I especially loved the baked cheese on top. The margaritas were consumed quickly and we wished we had ordered another round. We've been several times over the past few years, mostly for brunch. Our son loves the French toast and it's a generous enough portion for my husband to eat the leftovers. (He recommends squeezing the orange on top and says it goes together perfectly) I'm a fan of the four cheese scramble, which is simple and delicious. When we've gone later in the day we've had fried chicken, ravioli, and bruschetta, among other dishes. The menu has nice standards, as well as inventive standouts. It's always excellent! I love the Hobnob, it's a fun place for all ages for food, drinks, and catching up with friends. They have a ton of board games so you could stay there for hours. We got fish and chips and got truffle fries instead of regular fries (chips?) but more cheese to drench the massive amount of fries would have made them even better. Last night was my first visit here and boy was it a memorable one. Someone pepper sprayed some people two doors down at Monkey Pub & Grub and it lingered into The Hobnob. We were all coughing and one of my dinner companions was even tearing from it. Aside from the incident and chaos outside, the food was pretty good. I wish I could've enjoyed it more without the interference of the pepper spray. We shared truffle fries and calamari which were both incredibly good. I ordered the 3 mini burgers and I tried the fish & chips. All very good. I will be back for sure, hopefully no pepper spray next time. Service is great. read more

Hobnob was cool. Ambiance was nice, the lighting added a slight romantic feel, and I'm a total romantic so that was great! There was the perfect amount of noise, not too much or too little (which of course the restaurant has no say over that- for the most part). Upon arrival, my husband and I were warmly greeted by a kind gentlemen with the words, "feel free to sit where you'd like" and that is always great! The menu was a tad smaller than I'd hoped for, but most times artsy places do have smaller menus, but their menu was a bit smaller than I preferred; nevertheless, I ordered the ahi won ton tacos which were good. I would have preferred a little more ahi, they were a tiny skimpy on the fish, AND I was hungry. The garlic fries were good and I'd get those again. My husband had the sliders entree, which he said was cool, nothing to write home about. It was basically a burger. I had their signature Long Island ice tea which was not all that. Very weak. I'm wondering if it was because it was their happy hour price special or something, but on a Friday night, after a long week, I needed a legit adult beverage. Lastly, it was SO hot! Like where is the air conditioning? Geesh! That was rough! I was going to try another drink that wasn't on their happy hour menu but my husband said, "no way. It's way too hot in here! Let's go somewhere else." They turned on a fan but it just wasn't doing the job for an entire restaurant. Other than that, it was okay. Will I crave Hobnob? Probably not. The Hobnob is absolutely awesome. I used to think this place was just a bar- until I actually made my way inside. I was surprised to find out that not only did this place have a restaurant, but that it was super Kid Friendly! I knew this place had a thing about boardgames- but I swear, majority of the patrons in The Hobnob during dinner were under the age of 10. It makes sense though- french fries, mini-burgers, bacon pasta... Tons of great comfort foods that are all delicious. Everything comes out family style, and there is more then enough to share between guests. If you are there to drink, they have a great list of wine and even better cocktails. They have a happy hour earlier in the day before 7(i think) and again after 10(i think) until the bar closes. Plus Mondays they have $1 Mini-Burgers! Great staff and servers, very friendly to me and my girlfriend. Hobnobbing ain't just for politicians, y'all. It's for people who like board games, and strong cocktails, and lively chatter on the weeknights, too. After hearing about their legendary board game selection, I was expecting the Hobnob to be like a pub along the lines of the Albatross, but in comparison, it's much classier. The bar area is nice and dim with some decent mixology going on, as proven by the Cucito cocktail (gin, cucumber, lime & 7-up). Whoa. We sucked these down waaaay too quick. Ladies, use the straw at your own risk. After jeopardizing the bar for a while, they offered our group of 8 a large table (they've got plenty of space) where we dug into some impressive eats, like the massive arugula salad with sliced radishes, feta and an oozy poached egg on top. My buddy has the glorious wedge salad, covered in chunky blue cheese and toasted walnuts. Has iceberg lettuce ever looked so sexy? I think not. All this goodness for a nice price, and no-nonsense service. How nice to have a spot made just for hobnobbing, and all that goes with it! read more

Job Nob is the best place to eat on Alameda island. Their drinks are well mixed, and affordable- especially if you stop in at happy hour. They're food is fresh, flavorful and well executed. My favorites on the menu are the lemon curd pancakes, their eggs Benedict, they have really good biscuits and gravy, and their heavenly truffle fries! They also have daily food specials that are always delicious and unique. The staff is always friendly, the spot has a good vibe. One thing that they do not have is WiFi, and it's a pretty dead cell spot inside the restaurant so make sure if you're meeting friends there that everyone knows that. read more
