This was an amazing breakfast delivery meal! The Hobnob Hash had really crispy hash browns and the corned beef was fresh, real, shredded corned beef. The peppers were tasty, though I could have used a few more jalapenos! Everything was really fresh and delicious and the poached eggs on this and the Eggs Benedict were PERFECT! Thick, golden flowing yolk. The Hollandaise on the Benedict was fresh and buttery with a hint of lemon. Delicious, and somehow the sauce, like the eggs, made the delivery trip perfect and unbroken. The Waffle was a nice affordable add on, but it's nigh impossible to not have a soggy waffle with delivery. I tried to remedy it by toasting it in the toaster oven, but it went too long and was dry. My fault. Will definitely order from and visit the Hobnob again. Great experience! read more

Food was a 5/5 Ambiance was a 5/5 (Karaoke seemed lit) Service (1/5)!!!! Our server barely stayed long enough to look at us let alone take our order. She also brought our check without asking us if we were ready and we still had food on the table and half our drinks left (didn't bother to ask if we needed a box). Then about 2 minutes later she quickly walks by our table, taps the check without looking at us, and continues walking. Again the interaction was so quick I couldn't ask for a box or ask if we could order more. Then when she came back to pick up the check I asked if we could order another round of drinks. She said "no" and that if we wanted to stay we would have to sit at the bar. Then she ran away with my credit card so fast I couldn't even ask her for a box. Then we paid and left and she completely avoided any eye contact even though we were face to face with her as we walked out the door. It was so strange and so rude. I noticed this was the speed with which she treated all the customers, not just us. It was unfortunate because the food was so good and Karaoke night seemed really fun. We really wanted to stay but were made to feel unwelcome (there was no room at the bar, where our server told us we'd need to move if we wanted to stay longer than the 1hour 15mins we'd been there). I have always loved the HobNob but the last 2 times I was there--once for takeout and last night for dinner and drinks, I had to wait 10-15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge that I was waiting at the front door. I walked over to the server sitting closest to the bar and she apologized and said she hadn't seen me. No worries. I could get past that. But then she said the kitchen was closed even though it was only 8 pm on. Saturday. I asked if she was sure, and she said yes they close at 8. I looked around and saw people eating. She then asked a man sitting at the bar, who may have been the manager. She then corrected herself and said she had forgotten that it was Saturday and the kitchen is open until 9. I was happy because there was a mixed plate dish I'd had there before several times that I loved but the last time I ordered it for takeout and I got food poisoning. I mentioned it to the server and specified not to include anything that has MSG this time since I'm allergic to it or to include the chimichurri sauce since that was the only ingredient listed that wasn't a vegetable that could have been suspect. I mentioned that I'd gotten sick last time but loved the dish so was giving them another try. I got it again and thought it was odd that the manager at the bar and the cook both seemed to be watching me while I ate. Unfortunately, I got food poisoning again and ended up with diarrhea and vomiting overnight. I don't k ow what's going on there but a friend told me others had had similar experiences. On top of that, even once seated the service was really slow and there were only a few tables with patrons and no one at the bar. There was a lovely African American server who was wonderful. She found my wallet in the front and brought it over to me. I really appreciated that! She did a really great job overall. The jazz band was great too. I don't know if I have a food allergy or if the food prep was sus but it was warm in the restaurant. My friend sitting next to me got the wrong check as well. Went in and said we'd like 4 for outside. Waitress said ok then turned around and left. Should have walked out then. Another worker stepped in and grabbed a menu and followed us to the table. 2nd waitress took our order and was also unpleasant. Everyone seemed stressed but we continued on. Food took a while to get to us and it was ok though a little expensive considering the service. Again waited for the waitress to get our bill. She didn't come back for a while so I went to the bar to pay and waited again. She didn't say anything, grabbed my card, ran it and slapped it back on the bar. I wouldn't come back. I have been going to The Hobnob for many years, when there was Karaoke and drag shows, games, a great brunch, and delicious food. I have met new people there that became my friends and have a soft-spot in my heart for Hobnob. Hobnob has great food and their dinners are my favorite part of what they offer. I had the best French toast at the Hobnob Café today. Beautiful presentation and the piped whipped cream was delicious. Another member of our party had the truffle fries with their meal and the fries were perfectly fried, crispy but not dry. The service was attentive and they even brought my dog a dish of water. My group and I originally had a reservation for Spinning Bones. However, it was raining and we didn't want to wait out in the rain (w/o umbrellas) for an extra 20 minutes. Fortunately, there was no wait for the The Hobnob, which was a couple blocks away. Ordered the Nashville spicy fried chicken sandwich. It came with a spinach and arugula side salad. It was dressed in a lemony vinaigrette and wasn't really exciting. The sandwich was not spicy at all. The chicken was moist but was fried kind of dark. The server was nice. read more

What a huge surprise! My handsome linner date, my husband; walked by on Sunday and quickly looked at the menu. The park-let was open and wanted to sit outside; we peeked our heads inside of the restaurant to alert the waitstaff. We were greeted by a very bubbly and sweet lady who brought us water and menus. She was super hospitable and made our experience wonderful. We loved everything! My Hugo spritz and my BFFs beer were great as was the fast refills on the water. Their happy hour menu was incredible! Smaller portions just right for trying more items and perfectly presented. We dined on bbq chicken wings, sliders, chicken kaarage (nuggets), fried Brussels sprouts, buffalo cauliflower w/ranch and blue cheese dressing. The dressings were either house made or from a brand I have never tasted. Both are excellent! I will be back to have a salad and wings/buffalo cauliflower. If only I asked for the recipe! Every person employed by the Hobnob was spectacular. We are so happy we stopped here. We are definitely looking forward to spending more time at the Hobnob! read more

Sever trying her best, place packed but kitchen woefully understaffed and not being managed meant a two and a half wait for inedible food ( some of us had to change our order three times as their choice was " no longer available". The general manager only turned up after repeated requests, having been invisible for over two hours and completely inept at addressing the concerns of almost every party in the place. This place is the absolute best. For the adults: Delicious cocktails, a glass of wine, everything on the menu is good, especially ahi tacos, burgers, salads and veggie entree. Good service. For the kids: Board games, kids menu. That means everyone gets a little bit of what they want - parents get a nice meal that lasts more than 30 min while children are entertained without a tablet. I got food to-go for a friend and I so I can't really say anything about the ambiance of the place. We got the veggie plate, fish and chips, and brussel sprouts, plus the chocolate mousse. The food was ready early and was fine, nothing really special honestly. But then the next day I warmed up some of the leftovers (veggie plate and brussel sprouts) and it seemed like the flavors were a lot better by that time. First time going, I thought the restaurant would be a little snobby. It's a nice cozy interior, a little more modern high end vibe. Ultimately, the bartender was kind enough and very attentive. Met the owner, they were nicely sociable and had pride in their establishment. Cocktail was really delicious, probably one of the better manhattans I've had. Not the biggest wine or beer selection but enough to pass. If you're a fan of crispy chicken sandwiches, I'd highly recommend getting the Nashville Chicken Sando. Juicy chicken and nicely balanced flavors. I'd recommend giving this place a shot. They even have karaoke and have a bunch of board games if that's your style. Checked out my handy dandy yelp and saw the wings were a popular item here, however these weren't on this menu. So We inquired and we were told we had to wait until 2:30 to order wings off the "dinner menu" which they switch at 2:30 pm. Um... It was 2:16 pm. Not a minute earlier nor later was the tone set here. We found it very odd and poor service that we had to "check back with him at 2:30 pm" to place our order of wings. I'm sorry, but whaaat?!? So should I tip myself after this meal since I'm playing waiter?? Anyways. Mediocre eats in my opinion. Ordered sliders and wings. Those were Okay. Friend ordered the chicken sandwich. It was huge. She described it as biting into fat with each bite she took. We took that item back. Another at our table ordered the lunch steak, she didn't finish even half of it but also said nothing. Veggie burger that was also ordered at the table was not good, but didn't complain about that one either. Truffle fries were probably the one item we all could agree that was good. We went on a weekday for dinner. There was no wait and service was nice. We ordered the mushroom burger, prosciutto croquettes, and spinach & arugula salad with fried tofu. Burger -- 2/5. Asked for rare and it was well done. The burger was also drowned in aioli. The lettuce was volumetrically enormous which made the burger fairly hard to eat. The seasoning was good and the ingredients tasted fresh and high quality, though. Prosciutto croquettes-- 5/5. These were essentially upscale bechamel cheesesticks mixed with Spanish ham croquettes. No complaints; very good. Salad -- 2/5. The salad itself was a pretty traditional salad with shaved fennel and canned mandarin slices. The sourdough croutons were nice. However, the fried tofu was fairly disappointing. While the breading was nice, the tofu itself was basically unseasoned and tasteless. Also, if the salad was any more underdressed it would be arrested for public indecency. Cocktail -- 3/5. We got the Burning Bush, which was a gin and soda with a stalk of rosemary. It was on the simpler side. The rosemary was nice and fragrant, but the drink itself seemed pretty watery. Service & ambiance -- 4/5. No complaints here! Very prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The space was comfortable and spacious, but wasn't exceptionally standout. Overall -- based on lines, Hobnob is mainly popular for weekend brunches, and the menu does look pretty appealing. We probably won't come back for dinner, unless it's for a quick appetizer or dessert, or as a hangout spot (they have occasional events and board games). While nothing was awful, it was okay at best, and at the price point we'd rather go elsewhere. Particularly notable is the fact that sandwiches and burgers make up so much of the menu. Scolari's is right down the street and I don't see any reason to not go there instead. It's worth noting that Hobnob is convenient if you want a single spot where you can sit comfortably with a group and get everything (appetizers, main course, drinks, and dessert), but you are definitely paying a premium for the convenience and environs. read more

The best fish and chips I've had in a while. Tasty huge Bloody Mary for only $6. If it was only for those two things would be 5 stars. Minus 1 star: Only downside was the coffee was cold. My friend sent it back and ask for a hot cup and they brought out another cold cup after saying it was a new pot, lies! She was so annoyed she just asked for hot water for tea. You would think the server would have comp'd the tea/coffee for the inconvenience but nope. Minus 2nd star: chicken and waffles chicken way to crispy and over cooked. Two stars for the Saturday host who accommodated us. I used the servers recommendation to order the special, the BLT, ate only half bc it came w a fried egg. I ordered online from their brunch menu for pickup there. They're located in Downtown Alameda so finding parking was a bit tricky, but the pickup process was quick: they hand you your order at the bar near the entrance. The restaurant itself had dark grey walls and gave off some pub vibes. I tried The Works, which was a mix of potatoes with bell peppers, onions, bread, and eggs (the default is poached but I opted for them to be over hard for takeout purposes). For the price, I was definitely expecting a bit more food and the quality was just alright. I did find this dish to be quite greasy and heavy, but the caramelized onions gave a nice sweetness to the dish. The fried chicken sandwich was decent, but again, I'm not sure the price is justified. Overall I didn't find their food to be too memorable since it was a bit heavy, but it's probably expected that you would pair it with some mimosas. Maybe I'll come back for happy hour to try their drinks once the pandemic is over. read more

The damn truffle fries and their dipping sauce..let's just start here because ya girl was loving it! In addition to that we had the ahi tuna tacos and spinach & Aragula salad, both which were okay in my opinion. The truffle fries were obvi my favorite, crispy and crunchy but not overly done. For drinks, had a basic vodka/ soda which was a delight. The bartender was very friendly and cracked a few jokes with us. I appreciated the laid back ambiance for a Wednesday night. The Hobnob is under (somewhat) new management and the owner is very friendly, accommodating and hardworking. They accommodated a 20 person birthday celebration for us which all of our guests highly enjoyed. Full bar and the upscale comfort dishes are all delicious. They serve brunch, lunch and dinner. We all a wonderful time and recommend The Hobnob for dates, girls night outs and even fun with the whole family! I am glad this restaurant has remained around in downtown Alameda! read more

It's been a while since I've been here: the good news is the food was still good. Bad news is that the service was really awful. Came here on a weeknight with my family, we were seated and our order was taken reasonably quickly. We got our water and drinks timely, but the food was a mess. It was well over 30 minutes between the first and last entree that the waiter brought out. Two of us were done with our meal by the time the last entree came. Our appetizer (an order of truffle fries) came as the second to last item. The waiter seemed like perhaps she had too many tables to take care of. We did speak up about the issue with the missing food, and called her over to remind her we were still waiting for the final item--waiter mumbled an apology, but that was it. I feel for waitstaff--but our waiter should have simply have been proactive about seeing us waiting with no food, given us an apology and maybe comped us a drink or whatnot for the mistake. I don't have patience for poor service, so I don't see myself coming back here... read more

Almost a year later, Taylor and I are back for brunch while she's visiting. We both order the same things we ordered a year ago (waffle sandwich for me and he lemon ricotta and two egg special for her) with the bottomless mimosas. The food is still just as good as is the service. The bottomless mimosas have gone up from $10 to $14 but the quality of the champagne remains consistent as does the smooth grab and replace when the glasses are empty. Hobnob is still a place that I will definitely keep in my brunch rotation. It's close by, the service and food are excellent and it's nice a relaxed.
