I love a good donut shop, and this place was all over social media when I was planning my trip, so of course we had to go! We tried the dark chocolate sea salt, strawberry sprinkle, chocolate toasted coconut, old fashioned, maple, and vanilla. They were all fresh and delicious without being overly sweet. My favorite was the chocolate toasted coconut, but they were honestly all really good. I'd never had a potato donut before, but they reminded me more of a cake donut than a typical donut. The employees were all super friendly, and I was impressed with how clean the store was, especially with how busy they were. We got there at the perfect time because there were only a few people in front of us, but by the time we left, the line was out the door! After walking around for an hour or so, my husband wanted a donut and the line had gone down considerably so we only had about 3-4 people in front of us. We tried a vanilla and a chocolate donut and thought they were OK but, a bit dry and not to our liking. I ordered an iced coffee but was given a to-go cup and you get it from a canister on the side. Line moved quickly on a holiday weekend Sunday morning so it didn't take long to get our donuts. We really liked the seasonal blueberry lemon donut. The Holy Donut is a VERY popular tourist spot! They've got 3 other locations (all in Maine) & I believe this is their first location. What makes their donuts unique is, they're made with POTATOES. That's pretty cool. I'm not sure exactly how they do it, but you can definitely taste the difference from regular donuts. I personally found these donuts to taste just okay. I wasn't a big fan of the texture & the rather dense consistency. We tried Holy Donut in Scarborough but it was the end of the day and they didn't have many choices left. We came to this one to try another flavor, and were sorely disappointed. The donuts were $5 each, flavorless, dry, and inedible. I love donuts so for me to through an uneaten one that I had paid $5 for, tells you how bad it was. Even at 9:30 am on a weekday, there was a line outside, but the 20 minute wait was worth it, because the donuts really were delicious and fluffy, with many vegan flavors as well. Yes, there can be long lines but we walked around then when there's not a line, we went in. There are two lines inside, 1 for ordering, 1 for the bathroom. We tried several different flavors (blueberry glaze, lemon glaze) and loved them all. They are dense, cake-like donuts. I like cake-like donuts, and I like yeast, lite and airy donuts, too. I tried the vanilla with sprinkles while my sister tried the blueberry. I had heard that this is a famous spot and are famous for their denser donuts - it's so famous they even have vending machines in the airport with their donuts which is super cool!
