Really enjoyed trying different flavors at the Holy Donut! I liked how the flavors weren't overwhelmingly sweet, and the potato textured donut was pretty on par. I think potato-based donuts are sometimes an acquired taste in terms of texture, which is why I'm giving a 4 star. Flavor was delicious and the shop is so cute! Would recommend if you're visiting :)

I had no idea what a potato donut was. Very dense and super filling.

What the heck is a potato donut? That may be a question you ask, I certainly did. Well it's the opposite of airy and light, with some big heaviness to the donut. Imagine any donut you've had and picture it being twice as dense and still a bit airy, but soft, but not really, but kinda, soft and crunchy, but sort of crispy on the edges. At the same time... It defies the laws of the normal donut world! Nothing makes sense. I'm crashing out. The damn cow just jumped over the moon. Got it?? Good!! I'm not saying that again! I almost lost it there. Staff was super nice and gave me free donuts because I was so baffled by potato donuts when I walked in. That made for a really good experience. I wonder how many calories are in a potato donut? Anyway. They have a little gift area and lots of information and memorabilia inside too. Great find. I hope to have another potato donut again one day soon!!! '26 - 22

I saw that the holy donut on my way home from Portland and Bar Harbor. My friend had been hearing all about it and really wanted to make the trip while she was visiting from New Jersey. I got three donuts and they all were incredible. There was not a long wait at all, even though we went later in the day, so there were not as many donuts left to choose from. Parking was really easy, and the staff was very nice. It was a really cute little house type of establishment that gave you that New England charm. we love the holy donut and will surely be back.

Stopped by this drive thru location of the holy donut on the way to Portland Maine for a day trip. This location was amazing and there was a ton of seating indoors and outdoors and very cozy. The locations offers a drive thru for those in a hurry or dine in for those who want to relax. My friends and I got half a dozen and split it. We ended up getting the blueberry glazed, blueberry lemon, fresh lemon, and chocolate donuts and they were all delicious. The potato base of the donuts definitely is unique but the donuts taste amazing and you wouldn't know if nobody told you! There are other locations in Portland Maine along the strip as well, I'd happily come back.

As far as potato donuts goes, it was good. If you are used to the airiness of traditional donuts then the denseness if this donut may not be your cup of tea. This is the type of food that seems more like a local thing and its popular here because of local tradition and nostalgia, not necessarily because it knocks your socks off.

Holy Donut in Portland, Maine is definitely worth a stop if you're a donut lover! We tried the chocolate sea salt, vanilla, and maple bacon donuts -- and the chocolate sea salt was the clear favorite! Rich, moist, and that touch of sea salt made it absolutely crave-worthy. The donuts are made with Maine potatoes, which gives them a unique texture and flavor. Just a heads up -- these are best enjoyed fresh. We saved a few for the next day and they were noticeably harder and less enjoyable, so definitely plan to eat them the day you buy them! Cool spot, friendly service, and fun flavor options -- just be ready to indulge right away! #HolyDonut #PortlandMaineEats #MaineDonuts #ChocolateSeaSalt #MapleBaconDonut #FoodieStop #EatFresh #SweetTreats #MaineFoodie #PotatoDonuts

Over the past decade, Holy Donut has changed A LOT. Since reaching international fame and being sold by the original owner/creator, I don't think their donuts are as good as they used to be. They're greasier, weaker in flavor, more stodgy, and more streamlined for efficiency. I get it, they have to be to produce the quantity they need to (especially now that they ship coast to coast). That being said, I now think this is THE BEST of the current locations: 1. There's plenty of parking in their dedicated lot! 2. There's a drive-thru! 3. You can order online ahead of time, and your order will be waiting for you in the cubicles to the left of the counter! 4. There's loads of seating options (large officelike chairs, big couches, high tops, low tables)! 5. It's super clean inside! 6. They have bathrooms (that are also super clean)! 7. The staff is THE FRIENDLIEST AND MOST WELCOMING (and most engaging, and most patient) of any other HDs! 8. If you can plan your visit midweek, midday, you'll still have plenty of donut options to choose from with almost zero wait/queue (this is at least true in non-summer months)! Vegan? No problem (although, note, all donuts are fried in the same oil). Try the lemon or maple, I think they're the best ones (although, it *is* just a basic plain donut topped with flavored frosting; gone are the days of flavoring and fillings IN the actual dough). Gluten-Free? No problem. The dark chocolate sea salt is the best donut HD makes. That includes any and everything they make. So, even if you're not GF, get this one. The coffee is from Wicked Joe (love seeing local support local!), and it's a safe bet hot or iced every time. Appreciate that they have oat milk for NO upcharge; but, would love to see a secondary non-dairy option and miss the days they had soy!

Must go here! Michael was the worker that greeted us with excitement and kindness. It was the first time visiting and he gave a detailed rundown of a the menu. Lots of space to sit and enjoy your donut and coffee, and yes, the donuts are outstanding. It's something I've never experienced before, and you'll have to try it to understand.

Heard so many great things and was unfortunately disappointed. The donut was just so dry and though the flavour wasn't bad, they had a stale taste to them despite being there first thing in the morning when they should be fresh.

This place is truly everything you ever wanted in a donut & coffee. Every flavor pops, not drowned out by sugar, they are not too sweet just perfect and fresh. I have already shipped them to my family in different states. Just wow. I came back yesterday for the lemon donut & another oat milk latte. The lemon donut was better than what I thought was my favorite chocolate sea salt. It was still warm and completely fresh. I can't get enough, I don't feel that bloated or heavy feeling that I normally get after eating a donut. Also their egg bites are home made & incredible, their lattes & coffee are just as good. This place is a little piece of heaven on earth. Plenty of indoor seating, great vibe inside, tons of available parking and a convenient drive through. Their online ordering & shipping is fair pricing and got to my family fresh & quick.

Holy Donut is another place that my friend who I visited and I have talked about coming to for years now! I am something of a donut addict and I was super excited to come here and try these, because my friend absolutely raves about them! He was not kidding they are absolutely fabulous! Some the best I've had! Nationwide! Light and fluffy but just sturdy enough to hold up with my coffee! Perfect consistency for me! The flavors are unreal and they have something for everybody. Seasonal ones too! We tried a variety of flavors from something fruity with the Triple Berry, to something sweet and savory with our maple bacon. I also had to try the apple crumb which was absolutely amazing! I recommend trying that while they have it. Chocolate sea salt was incredible too! Like I said everything I tried was delicious! They also have savory offerings if you're not a donut person. You know I had to get coffee too, of course it was equally wonderful! Strong and Sweet! Not that I had any question of how wonderful this place was but a particular piece of their decor, which you'll see in my pictures let me know that I was meant to come here. The staff is super duper friendly and ready to answer any questions you have! The shop itself is super cute and they have a lot of fun merchandise available for sale. I definitely should have grabbed a t-shirt, but I'll be back for that and more! I love the fact that they offer Nationwide shipping for the continental US, but that's also a little bit scary to know. At least for my waistline! They have a few locations so if you're in the area make sure you stop in! Get a couple or get a dozen. You will not be sorry! They stay fresh for days so don't be shy! Treat Yourself!

This is my friend's favorite donut shop so she wanted to make a stop here and pick up a box before we headed back from our day trip. We each got three and I went with a vanilla glazed cannoli, dark chocolate coconut and maple. I was shocked that the cannoli doughnut was not sweet at all, the doughnut itself with the vanilla glaze was good however I found nothing special about the cream. I also wasn't a fan of the dark chocolate coconut which is the one I looked forward to the most and my least favorite pic, the maple turned out to be my favorite. Would not return.

I ordered the Garden Sprout ($9), a breakfast bagel sandwich with veggie sandwich, tomato, avocado, alfalfa sprouts, and vegan chive cream cheese on a choice of bagel. Luckily, it only took 20 minutes for the bagel to come out. The sausage was overcooked, to the point of being almost charred, but still tasty; the cream cheese--if it was that--seemed more like excessive butter (there was a pool of butter-like substance underneath). But other than that, the food was decent. I appreciate the vegan option, notwithstanding the aforementioned aspects that could be improved.

I will say this review is not factoring in food as we did not order any so maybe that's where they shine the brightest. Being located on Route 1 I suspect make them a popular spot for tourists to visit. Plenty of parking available which is a plus and they do have a drive thru too. The overall vibes inside are kinda your typical coffee shop that serves food. Nothing off putting but also nothing that sets them apart or makes it memorable. When we stepped inside the line for ordering was about just as far as it could stretch inside and we had an extremely long wait to place our order. The staff definitely seemed overwhelmed and an extra person or two would have went a long way. Drink wise we liked the sound of their specials but unfortunately they were out of blueberry flavoring so chocolate covered blueberry latte was not available. Very disappointing. My wife ended getting the Lemon Cookie Latte and I got the S'mores Latte. Both drinks were just kind of alright and lacked flavor as much as many other spots we have been to. The drinks were at least made quickly. Disappointing enough experience with so many coffee options in the area that we likely won't return.

My wife ended up picking the Rose Mocha and I got the Hazelnut Mocha. If we were more local we would have made a plan to try them all and actually determine our favorite of the 8. We also grabbed a bag of coffee beans to enjoy at home! They also had a local candle maker selling his candles so a great example of local supporting local.
