I stopped by Home Depot for home plant supplies. A friend gave me a plant in a large glass jar with a lot of roots and I need to pot it. I used to have a green thumb, however it's been a while. It was very pleasant and relaxing walking around the plants, reading the little description boxes and how to care for them. Nature is so cool! I helped myself so I didn't need any help or additional service. Everything was well organized and easy to locate what I needed. read more

I've had a consistently good experience at this Home Depot! The customer service is very nice and helpful with finding things. There is a wonderful and very friendly man who works in the returns section in the evenings. The managers have helped with with a weird online order glitch without hesitating. I'm only giving one star because Yelp requires me to give a minimum of 1 star. This has been the biggest Nightmare experience as a home owner I have ever had. We went through Home Depot to replace a slate tile floor and steps with a VPF floor. They assigned ACS. they scheduled us for the day after Thanksgiving 2025 (ie last year) and they said it would take 4 hours. They spent 8 hours, then came back the next day, spent another 8 hours and didn't finish. So they had to reschedule for 3 weeks away to come finish. The installers (the workers, who so far have been the only competent members of this nightmare) finished the floor part, but said they couldn't finish the steps because we were given the wrong stair noses. ACS called home depot and said they would call me right back. They NEVER called me back. this went on for weeks. Just before Christmas, Home depot said they had the right stair noses and I had to pick them up, which I did. So I called ACS to schedule the completion. Have I mentioned that EVERY TIME I call ACS I get a different person, someone who knows nothing about my project and just answers phones and has to look up "notes" to answer my questions. Also EVERY TIME they said they would "call me right back" they never did. not once. And this was 8-9 times over 8 weeks. The flooring finish got rescheduled, the workers came late January (now 7 weeks after it was supposed to be done) and they said they STILL sent the wrong materials. The right ones had to be "special ordered" and ACS couldn't send the workers back for another 3 weeks. Now here we are, February 23, THREE MONTHS after it was supposed to be done, and the workers are here in my house telling me they sent the wrong materials AGAIN. SHEER INCOMPETENCE from all sides. STAY AWAY FROM ACS AND HOME DEPOT FLOOR INSTALLERS!!!!! read more

These plants were in the garbage (as they looked like they were dying, but as a gardener I knew they just needed water and food). I also mentioned I am a Kindergarten teacher, buying supplies for a school garden, so I asked if I could just take them and try to revive them. "No, you can't", then took them back and threw them in the trash. Home Depot prides themselves in not wasting and recycling but then does this. Why throw them out? Not the most helpful Home Depot that's for sure. Usually I'm on a mission & just get what I need & go. This go round I needed paint so I had no choice but to seek help, lol. Had to wait to be waited on in the paint department, even though there were 3 people behind the counter & only 2 of us in line. The 2 gentlemen behind the counter were both helping the guy in front of me & the girl behind the counter was doing her thing, whatever that was. There was also another guy that was stocking the shelves. Point being, not one of them acknowledged me so I waited & waited. When it was my turn 3 out of the 4 employees just walked away & left the one guy solo. Gave my order & he was very pleasant. Since I knew it would take a little bit, I went to look at plants & lights. Got some potting soil and was trying to get some fertilizer but couldn't reach it. I looked around for someone to help me & saw the person at the counter was just sitting there watching me struggle, so I left. I can get fertilizer anywhere & will go to another place that will actually get up and assist customers. Came back to the paint department 20 min later & the guy asked if I needed help & I said I'm just waiting for my paint. He didn't say anything & just kept working. He had a rush of customers & was going as quick as he could solo but he was slammed. Finally, I just happened to see my paint sitting there. It had been ready the whole time I was standing there, even after I told him I was waiting for it - like another good 20 minutes - & he never said anything, lol. I was definitely frustrated but just wanted to get outta dodge so I grabbed my paint without a word, went up front to check out & left. You may want to consider going to Lowes, it seems there customer service is pretty good. Perhaps they spend more time training there staff. read more

Went in looking for help and asked a staff member passing by. Promised would get the "right" person over ( had my 8 month old with me alone ) but stood there for 20 minutes with no help. Walked isle to isle to see if I could look for help, nope. This store was a family favorite for many years. Granted I haven't been by in a while but customer service definitely went downhill. It's better to Google everything online and walk in knowing exactly what you want because gone are the days when staff can help and provide some sort of guidance. read more

When it comes to plumbing and lighting, that is where this location shines. I've received excellent assistance here. Very good employees, whom actually have experience in these fields. It can be extremely crowded here. Go on a weekday to maintain your sanity. The checkout process can be ominous. This isn't the fault of the employees, but rather the Kevin and Karen types that are quite common. So so wish I could award half stars! I think this location deserves 3.5 stars. I like that the store advertises the mask mandate and provides hand sanitizer for customers. However, no one really social distances here. Unfortunately that includes employees who are walking close to you with their mask pulled down. What customer service - this Merrifield store has none! My hubby approached a staff for help with locating an item and staff told him to go see customer service. Hubby then walked back up to customer service, he was told item "should be there"in the aisle even though it was not there. Hubby then asked customer service "show me" where the item was, customer service replied "can't help you" but will call garden center staff who never showed up after 40 minutes. Wow! What is it with home depot? Why is it so poorly run and why is customer not being helped? This was the reason I was compelled to review 4 home depots we visited in two days looking for an item that was supposedly on stock. Ordinarily I reserve my review for restaurants or similar venues but I had to bring attention to this lack of customer service or unfavorable and very inconvenient experience! read more

Poor, unreasonable, borderline insulting customer service. Requested a store credit for a $20 item that though was admittedly past the return date, was brand new in the sealed and undamaged original hard plastic packaging, with the original receipt, in the bag I bought it in. It had obviously never left the bag since the day it was purchased by mistake a few months ago. I've spent thousands of dollars at this place over literally a couple decades and rarely return anything at all, let alone big ticket items that would warrant more scrutiny. The "manager" would not explain why they wouldn't as a courtesy just give me a store credit for the visibly brand new and unopened little $20 item with the original receipt, except to say "the system" refused the return for some unknown and unknowable reason, possibly related to THEFT! Not a word I'm used to hearing when I deal with business that respect their customers, though he added he wasn't saying I myself was a thief. Big thanks for that. Made me feel especially valued as a long time customer. Still not exactly sure what that had to do with it, since it was paid for by credit card in my name AND they had already scanned my license AND, as I said, I had the original receipt AND it was visibly untouched AND I'm definitely not the type to buy things and return them for no good reason. And needless to say, it obviously wasn't stolen. Plus I've only returned a few small items in the couple decades I've been shopping there. Shouldn't have had to justify it anyway. At best a very poor choice of words from the "manager." So while technically their "legal" right to refuse to take the item back, I think they could've and probably should've been more accommodating and reasonable, and certainly less offensive, especially the so-called "manager." The money spent would have been spent there anyway. The store itself is very poorly run and on the decline in any case, as anyone who has shopped there lately will tell you. Anyway, I'm done with Home Depot. This was the last straw. They've permanently lost a customer over something very minor, simple and routine that would have cost them very little if anything to resolve. 7/3/21 My overall experience here was helpful, but I fear Franklin in the painting department gave me unsound advice on glues. I asked for the best Waterproof glue and he leads me to a glue I know doesn't hold water...literally or figuratively. I asked Franklin again about the glue he selected and he said with some arrogance "that this is the best glue for underwater." Franklin, I don't know what your intentions were, but its back to the lab again with you:( I appreciate the advise I received from other staff in the painting department, but the master plumber told me what I figured would have to happen. The hairline cracks in my toilet might have been fixable, but it was the one crack that travels beyond sight that was the nail in the coffin. Looks like I will be back to aquire a new toilet and have it installed after I do a little more research. read more

Do not get your appliances at Home Depot. They send out appliances that have been packed damaged and do not want to exchange them or help you out. I received a dishwasher that had no damage to the outside box or the packaging and the door and inside were bent and they insisted I had to go through GE the manufacturer. GE service inspected it and found it had been damaged inside and the whole unit needs to be replaced. I'll never shop at Home Depot again. Have noticed recently that many things are not in stock, and what is on the shelves can be damaged. Was there a few days ago looking for an elbow duct, for example, and the one on the shelf had holes from sheet metal screws -- it had clearly been installed by a previous customer and then returned. Many of the employees seem to avoid eye or verbal contact... though they are generally helpful once you get their attention. LADIES BE AWARE " Home Depot need to train their employees not to stalk women and girls by acting like they are trying to help but starting to ask personal question such as their birth place ethnicity or their names!! My daughter went to this home depot just to buy some cleaning material when she was abruptly was approached by a African guy who started questioning her about her ethnicity name and how old she was!! At some point he volunteered to say he was Nigerian which my daughter never asked him!! He wanted to small talk and get her information!! Completely unacceptable and rude!! I guess my big mistake was coming to this Home Depot at 7 AM on a Saturday morning. This store has a great selection compared to some of the other ones in the area, but the employees are rude and they don't listen to what you're saying. I had a piece of plywood that I needed to cut. I wanted it cut with the grain. One cut. That should not be too hard. The employee measured where to cut, turned on the saw, and before I could say anything turned the piece of wood around and ran it through. It was done before I could say anything. He offered to get a new piece of plywood, but I had already waited for 45 minutes and I just didn't feel like it. Then I got to the check out. The cashier asked for my phone number. I had never been asked for a phone number at Home Depot before. So I told him I wasn't going to give him my phone number. Then he got upset with me. I ended up going to another cashier, waiting in line, and checking out. No phone number given. My 30 minute Home Depot run turned into an hour and a half. No one simply asked why I was calling - people immediately tossed me around like a "hot potato" and at one point, I even heard the manager on the floor say "take a message" after one decent guy tried to help me because he felt bad for me being on hold for so long. Add the convenience of a one-stop shopping experience with friendly and informed service, a 10% discount for veterans and generous return policies and it equals a great experience from start to finish. Employees are friendly and willing to help you locate, reach, order, or load anything and have gone out of their way to assist us at this location. HD is our "go to" for plants because of their amazing policy; if the plant dies within a year- they replace it free! (Yes, let me repeat that, they replace it for free but f/when it dies!) For a serial plant killer and no green thumb gene, this store policy is worth giving horticulture a try even when the odds are stacked against me. read more

I'm updating my review based on my recent experience with curbside pickup during the pandemic. I ordered online at night and my order (of many things) was ready the next morning. This location is very organized for curbside pickup. There was a masked employee at a station who took our order number and directed us to park in a numbered space. Within 5 minutes someone brought out our order and helped us put it in the trunk. We realized we had forgot some nails so we put on our masks and went inside. There was a sign indicating a maximum of 100 people in the store. It was a ghost town. I felt very safe inside and we were able to find what we needed quickly and pay for it with no human interaction. Major props to Merrifield Home Depot for their management of this crisis and for great customer service in general. read more

Smarmy customer service. When you call, you are asked to take a survey after the call. If the customer rep thinks you are unhappy, he/she will cut off your call at the end of the conversation, so you can't take the survey. They should be recording the calls for quality control instead of relying soley on surveys. read more

While headed over to Merrifield to place an order for a Home Bar - I remembered I needed to buy a measuring tape and a level. I ended up buying two measuring tapes - a 12' and a 25', plus a small magnetic Torpedo Level, and a larger, longer heavy duty Level, plus a bunch of AA and AAA batteries. I got a bit lost trying to find things - but a helpful HD employee pointed me in the right direction. Once I got my stuff - there was quite a line to check out. This is the second time we have used them for an installation. This time the basement floor . Terrible from start to finish. 1. The person who came out to survey the floor area. Measured wrong and did not identify that the floor was not completely level. Therefore , did not identity that we may want to chose different material as the material we chose may not be compatible . 2. Installers came and showed up with out a level. My husband had to provide them tools . 3. The material that were delivered were damaged ( 3 of the 20 boxes). 4. Finally after being at the house for 4 hours they said they can't install the floor and we need to return everything . 5. We can't get a hold of Home Depot .. no one calls us back. Never going back to this store. I bought 5 packs of lawn bags and accidentally left them in the bottom of my cart. As soon as I got home I realized my error and went right back to the store, receipt in hand. The woman at the self checkout wanted me to pay again for the bags, which are $2.67 per pack. As many times as i have shopped there, they can't give me 5 packs of paper bags after I made the trip back immediately upon realizing my mistake?? I will find lawn bags elsewhere from now on. I came to the store to buy several pots for indoor plants, as well as other garden items. As I was entering the pots aisle, an employee looked right at me as she shut a temporary gate. No problem, and understandable, so I resumed shopping on the next aisle. She then came around and told me they'd need to move into the aisle I was currently in, and I would need to get out of her way. I explained that I just wanted to buy some pots, and she told me "they had work to do". Then she sarcastically told me in a very loud voice to "have a nice day". I know others here have had similar experience. The other Home Depot is much farther for me, but it will be worth the drive when the customer service is so much better. read more

This is a review of Home Depot's website ordering and then curbside pickup at this store. There are two stores in Fairfax - I was trying to order two items from the one nearest my house online. There was nothing during my online experience that indicated to me that one item was available at the nearest store but the other was only available at the more distant one - NOTHING. In fact, the website specifically told me that both items were in stock at the nearest store. These stores have almost the same name (but obviously have different addresses). When the text came telling me my order was ready for pickup, there was nothing to distinguish which store it was other than the name (they don't include the address in the text). It did say "partial order is ready," but I figured by the time I got there, both items should be ready. The text had a link to click on when you got to the curbside area. When I got to the store nearest me (NOT the one I'm writing the review for) - "Fairfax Circle" - things were fine. I clicked on the link, the system worked, the staffer came out promptly with ONE item for me. He had no record of the second item, until he looked more carefully on his tablet and told me it was at the other store - "Fairfax" (see what I mean about the name?). I didn't get upset with him - it wasn't his fault the website never told me I would have to go to two stores (remember, it said both items were IN STOCK at the nearest store). So I drove off to the other store (seven miles from the first) - this is the one I'm writing about (Fairfax). I did the exact same thing when I got there - clicked on the link to say I was waiting. Nothing. I waited for about 10 minutes before flagging down a staffer. He asked me if I had texted them - I said, no, I used the link in the text Home Depot sent to ME. He had NO idea what I was talking about, even though the sign above every curbside pickup parking space has a sign telling the customer to use the link received OR text upon arrival. He clearly had never really paid attention - he only knew about the texting option. He went to check what the problem was - that was another 10-15 minutes. Seriously - I was at that store for almost a half hour waiting, in 90 degree heat, with my mask on - it was ridiculous. He finally came out with a manager. He too asked me if I'd texted - I went over to the sign and actually pointed to the words "Click on the link." I told them I didn't want to get angry, because I appreciated what they were all doing during the pandemic, but [expletive deleted]! I showed them the page you get on the website on your phone, saying "you have signed into curbside pickup successfully - your order will be brought out to you shortly!" (HA!). They took my order number at that point and went into the store again - the staffer came out INSTANTLY (I mean, less than a minute later) - my item had been sitting RIGHT THERE, with my last name on it in BIG LETTERS, the whole time. I didn't even get an apology (other than the generic "Sorry about this" from the manager when they took my order number). The staffer literally laughed and said "Here it is!" like it was all very funny. Given the computer system is clearly not working at their location, I would have expected at least a coupon or something. Nada. Don't shop here. I hate Home Deport generally, for a lot of reasons, but the utter incompetence of this experience was the last straw for me. I won't be shopping at any Home Depot again, but I recommend against this store in particular. And avoid the website - it's totally unhelpful. read more

The worst customer service I've ever encountered. Home Depot corporate should absolutely take a look at how this location is run and what kind of people are employed on the floor. I came in prepared to make an appliance purchase. I found the item online, had the exact location coordinates and wanted to see the item in person before buying. When I approached the aisle, three Home Depot staff members were casually having a gathering right in front of the place where my item would be located, blocking the entire space. They had a shopping cart parked there as well and wouldn't move no matter how many times I excused myself to look at the shelf or attempted to walk around them. They weren't discussing work related stuff - and I highly doubt they all happened to be on a lunch break, bullshitting right on the floor in front of customers. When I asked if any of them could help me, one of the ladies waved me off, saying I should go to customer service. Nobody bothered to move an inch or stop their lively chat to actually do what they are paid for. What a shame - and what a stark contrast from another nearby Home Depot location in Fairfax, where staff members actually do their job, help customers, or at the very least don't stand in their way, wasting everyone's time. read more

I had the worst experience that I've ever had at a Home Depot last Saturday. I rented a box truck because I needed to haul some lumber to my house. The lady pointed me to the wrong truck so I ended up loading $400 worth of lumber in the wrong truck. I had to unload it and put it the correct truck. This was really kicking my butt because I had recently recovered from coronavirus and my strength is still not 100%. Then when I returned the truck the guy checked the wrong box and Home Depot charged me over $200 for a hand truck. Plus I had another $150 deposit. When I told the guy that my bill should only be $29 he told me, "don't worry they will return all of this money to your credit card". After almost a week of not getting the money returned to my credit card, I went back and talked to customer service and a very nice helpful gentleman named John C, helped to get it resolved. The bad part is that I had to wait for his manager, Berta to come in the next morning and refund my money. The next day John C, called me and explained that I needed to return to the store in person because the $150 deposit needed to be paid in cash. I was pissed. This is the third time that I had to return to the store for a mistake that their cashier made. I return to the store and I meet with a lady named "Rain" or something like that. She worked in customer service, I told her that I wanted to meet with Berta the manager because I thought it was BS that I had to return three times to resolve something that was not my mistake. She hesitantly refunded me the $29 for the truck rental. I told her that Home Depot should give me a gift card for all of the inconveniences. I went on to explain that in addition to the box truck rental drama that I experienced drama in the lumber department and the main cashier. I had to go through three employees in the lumber department before I could find someone to help me find the specific materials that I needed. When I got to the cash register the cashier didn't know how to ring up the lumber. She couldn't find the bar code on one of the sheets of plywood. I gave the exact measurements and it took her forever to find the material price in her computer. Additionally I bought a new wrench. The lady didn't take the security device off of the wrench. I didn't notice this until I got home. It was the alarm type device, however it did not trigger an alarm at the Home Depot exit. I got home and used hedge clippers to cut the cables. Of course the alarm went off until I was able smash it with a hammer. After all of this drama I felt that the store should reimbursement me for all the inconvenience. Berta the manager said that she could not reimburse me with a gift card or anything. I explained that I have been a loyal customer of that store even though it's usually under stocked, crowded, and lack luster management. I told her that since they are not loyal to me then I will not be loyal to them. I told them I will just go to Lowe's from now on. At this point "Rain" said that's "no sweat off her back". I told "Rain" that it was that type of attitude that causes businesses to fail. I will never go to this Home Depot again. read more

Previous washer was installed by Home Depot and they damaged the drain pan which allows for overflow from washer. Bought new one with install, and they refused to install because of drain pan they damaged. Manager said we would have to pay for additional work to install. The reason I will never buy an appliance from Home Depot. New install issue with friend after Home Depot sent a contractor to her house for lock replacement and took lock apart without having correct replacement. Charged her the estimate and told her she would get another charge if he returned with correct lock. Now Home Depot claims they don't have said contractor, even though we told them the correct name which was on their list. read more
