Hubby and I shared The Cowboy plate, which comes with your choice of two meats and two sides. Portions were generous and it did not disappoint. We had to ask for a to-go box. We went with the tri-tip and brisket, paired with potato salad and street corn. Every bite was packed with flavor, and the meats were melt-in-your-mouth tender. My wife and I tried Hansen's Barbecue today and walked away with mixed feelings. The meat itself was exceptionally tender and juicy, especially the brisket and pulled pork -- clearly cooked well. Unfortunately, both were almost completely devoid of smoke or seasoning, which is kind of a big deal at a barbecue joint. No smoke ring flavor, no salt -- you'll want to bring your own. Oddly, the chicken did have a nice smoky profile, which made the beef even more confusing. On the plus side, the barbecue beans were excellent and the potato salad was solid, easily the highlights of the sides. A couple of things really pulled the experience down. First, the live music felt wildly out of place. Instead of something that fit a barbecue crowd, it was a solo acoustic, Lilith Fair-style performance -- not exactly what you expect in a room full of 55+ Harley riders. It didn't add atmosphere; it distracted from it. Second, the service was painfully slow, which is hard to justify when everything is already cooked and just needs to be plated. Lastly, they offer an Outlaw Light Beer, which I can honestly say ranks among the worst beers I've ever tasted -- and I'm not picky. Bottom line: the barbecue is technically well-cooked but severely lacking in flavor. Because tenderness counts for something, I'm landing at 3 out of 5 stars, but there's a lot of missed potential here. read more

Visiting the area, we took advantage of the trip and had lunch at Hansen's. Good decision that was, enjoying some high-quality, non-complicated barbeque items in outdoor patio. Entering the area, we had to navigate a bit through the wild west themed buildings and path reading signs. We found our way to the outdoor bar and asked some recommendations, and ordered a plate of two meats, that is, ribs and brisket to share amongst two of us. What a great recommendation that was. The brisket was juicy, tender, tasty, and just about perfect in every sense - no knife was needed to cut this one. I remember having experimented the same back in Texas. The three ribs were also seriously good, with only essential rub and sauce used during the preparation making them enjoyable without being overly sweet. The two selected sides, potato salad and mac'n cheese, complemented the plate nicely. Excellent experience, including friendly service and fun ambience make this place a very good reasons to come back. read more

While out in cave creek for a family outing we decide to stop at Hansen's and give their delicious BBQ a try and I must say that it did not disappoint. We tried the pulled pork, brisket, and tri tip along with a few of their sides (the beans are amazing)! The atmosphere during lunch time was fun and energetic with live music playing and friendly hospitable service. I'd say this place is a must try if you're in the area. My family is already wanting to go back on their next visit from Florida even if it means missing out on other places and adventures in AZ! read more

Second time here. Excellent Brisket! Had combo with brisket, burnt ends, cheddar jalapeño sausage and potato salad. Everything was quick, hot and delicious. Have tried coming here many times but they were always closed. The hours on the website vs google and yelp are all different. Finally was able to try them. Food was good but they brought it out without any bbq sauce. Had to ask for sauce. Utensils. For the amount of money you pay I feel like they should give you more food. Potato salad was very mushy. Location; located right off Cave creek road within Frontier Town, cute little old cowboy town recreation, a must to go and try. They had a band playing and it was very relaxing and a nice change of pace. Food; We did order a bit of everything very good bbq, it is an order at the window and wait for your name to be called. May need to check often if bands are playing, or events it get a bit hectic. The adult bar area seemed to be packed, with one bartendar, dont expect fine dining and a server. We had three different meals, and two out of the three were very disappointing and not worth the money. It was the worst BBQ in Cave Creek. The music was okay, but the service was extremely slow; we had to ask for lentils, napkins, and other items. Wanted to try this new place. Great set up when you first walk in with the appearance of an old western town. But...do you seat yourself? Is there a hostess station? A sign? Menus? I wandered to the kitchen pass thru where I was told to order at the bar. Thankfully the bartender was there, I borrowed the only 2 menus in sight and brought them to the table to get our order together. Ordered sandwiches, nachos and a burrito all told. Food was just ok. This restaurant is just getting set up. The atmosphere is wonderful and they did a spectacular job refurbishing a burned out place in Frontier Town in Cave Creek. I am not taking any stars away for the bar not being set up yet, because all things in due time. The BBQ meats were perfection. We had the tri-tip and pork. The meats were tender, robust in flavor and NOT SWEET. The sides were also delicious, mostly. The coleslaw had an interesting blend of veggies and the potato salad was one of the best we've had outside our home. And again NOT SWEET. We do need to talk about the baked beans... while the flavour they went for was unique and would have been a great side to the BBQ, it was inedible due to the amount of fire that was in it. All 5 of us love spicy but this just didn't go down. I think this had to have been a mistake, and well, mistakes happen. Lastly, the buns... the fabulous meats they prepared do not need a fancy eggy firm bun! We need white bread here folks.... gimme a regular hamburger bun so we can smash it into that delicious awaiting BBQ!
