I held out hope for this place because I'd heard good things, but the longer we stayed the worse our experience got. Our sodas were flat and tasted like water, and after receiving a second round, they still tasted about the same. Our waitress was nice enough, but she forgot a few things like napkins and my dad's side salad, mainly because she disappeared for half an hour and no one else checked on us. We waited a WHILE, probably about an hour and 15 minutes, before we even got our appetizer. Eventually we got our food and mine was okay, not the best cheesesteak I've had by any means but decent. My dad compared his fried chicken to chicken covered in funnel cake because the batter was so sweet and genuinely tasted exactly like funnel cake. The fries were cold and soggy, the ketchup was gross and so was the coleslaw, both tasting watery and diluted. My mother's long island ice teas were EIGHTEEN DOLLARS a piece which is something we've never seen before, even in New York City. Absolutely no way in hell is a Long Island 18 dollars. The place itself is quaint and cozy but nothing ground-breaking, and a little dirty. Needless to say, we won't be coming back here. So.... A downward spiral continues. A Saturday night dinner presented a 14 ounce strip steak that was at least 5 ounces of fat - the waitress blamed the meat, not the fact that the meat was poorly trimmed. Mashed potatoes that were over worked and pasty, vegetables overcooked to the point of mush, and a prime rib that was adequate at best. Beer selection has improved, but the service remains poor. Table near the door has to suffer a relentless train of opening and closing to serve outside tables - I really felt for that family. Granted the options in the immediate area are not any better, but sometimes going out for dinner just isn't worth it. The Hotel is becoming that kind of place. The Hotel - Restaurant Newfoundland, PA I had high hopes having read several good reviews and saw many good items on their menu. This rather small Bar/Restaurant on the ground floor of a hotel, well off the beaten path, looked good enough, and perhaps on another night, would have been good but not this night. Remember to bring to bring your own hot-plate or microwave oven because you're likely to get COLD FOOD... I mean, give me a break - the butter didn't melt on my baked potato... I don't expect perfection but this was deplorable - for lack of a better word. My dinner partner had the chicken quesadilla and thought it was pretty good only they forgot it! It came 15 min after my cold plate of beef brisket, broccoli and baked potato... To be fair I did try the cold brisket but by then it had lost all possible appeal. The obviously distracted waitress was apologetic but her words were empty as she didn't bother to make sure the food was hot BEFORE she brought it to the table... And to make matters worse, the chef stopped by our table and apparently overheard my expressions of disappointment and blithely commented the she was "blown away" that this happened but didn't apologize or offer me anything to make it right... In truth we might try this place again only because its conveniently close to our summer house which is in a relatively remote part of the Pocono MTS.. A real shame - could have been a fine meal but they screwed it up. I will reserve this place for hamburgers, maybe ribs (I'm told) but not much else... read more

This little gem offers an incredible menu of nearly everything you can imagine. We enjoyed soup, entrees, and the most incredible desert. You have to try the 27 year old receipt of sweet potato bread pudding, it's like nothing you've ever tried and every bite is perfect. The steaks are cut and made in house and you can taste the freshness. The server was helpful and friendly. She knew details about every dish and explained them so well I wanted to try everything. The atmosphere is great for a casual night out of great food, a friendly drink at the bar, or a romantic night by the fireplace. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions of food. Mixed review: went for lunch after closing on our cabin nearby. The sandwich menu is insane! So many great combinations, it was hard to choose. I've stopped at The Hotel two times and have had an A-OK experience both times. They always have a decent selection of beer, including some awesome craft/import options that I was surprised to see (Stone, Lagunitas, Young's). The food has ranged from 4 stars (the prime rib) to 2 stars (the chicken marsala). Service has always been efficient and friendly. If you're in the area, it's a great option for a beer and a sandwich. read more

Just had dinner at the Hotel for the first time in years. I had the salmon and it was great. I eat salmon often when I go out to eat as I don't cook fish for myself. It was a large portion and cooked perfectly. Often salmon is dry and overcooked at restaurants, not at the Hotel, it ranked as one of the freshest and well cooked pieces of fish that I've had in years. Had corn on the cob and steak fries as sides. The food arrived very hot and my drink was refilled without my having to ask. I will definitely return. read more

Oh Wallenpaupack area locals, you are a treat, as usual. Gotta love Pennsyltucky! Definitely provided some entertainment. That was, however, the ONLY downside to our experience. The burger I got was GREAT for what it was. Fries were great too, though an extra cost. Good for an inexpensive night out for a beer and dinner. We went for the wing buffet and is was pretty good. It came with a potato and soup or salad. The lobster bisque was nice. There was a pretty good variety of wings. Some with sauces and others with dry rubs. The only thing was the prices on the menu were not what the prices actually were. It was a $3 difference each when we got the bill. Where I work also had price increases as do most places but the menu should be updated or the waitress should let people know the prices are different. There were six of us and 2 had the prime rib a queen cut and a king cut: both came out fatty but the king cut was almost 75 percent fat and the meat part was bland. When we told the waitress she brought the manager over who told us they don't pick the cow and they don't trim the fat. The meat that wasn't fat was also bland. She asked if he was still hungry and could get him anything else but by then it was too late. My dish of fish was good but came out luke warm and the lobster bisque soup although good was also luke warm. I noticed that there are 3 other reviews just like mine. Not a fancy place but dinners we had were very good. Had a special for that evening, a thick rib eye steak with three shrimp, baked potato, medley of tasty vegetables. It came with choice of soup or salad. My choice was soup which was tomato crab, Tasty. Others went for large juicy burgers with specialized toppings each one differing but enjoyed by the eater. One person had a grilled chicken breast sandwich topped with coleslaw and baby spinach. She said she enjoyed it. I can only comment on the bar, as I have not yet had food here. I think the bartenders and drinks they make are pretty darn good! I like crazy, weird, new, unique drinks and the girls here can make some unique cocktails and martinis. I actually DID have a small snack here (half a sandwhich) once, shortly before a new years' eve, but it was 'gratis', so I don't know if I could comment beyond it was good. While the food is usually good it never ceases to amaze me how bad and inconsistent the service is. The waitstaff needs to be trained in service and common courtesy. Their side salads used to be very good but this time looked like they had been hanging around in the refrigerator for days. When my wife asked our waitress if she good get only a light helping of pasta and a little more vegetables with her chicken parmesan the waitress answered with a very gruff "No". Really? You can't do that? Give me a break! I had to ask for silverware and napkins after our food was served or I never would have gotten them. The waitress reached over to another table, grabbed a setup from there and slammed it down. I don't think she likes customers. I think it's going to be a while before we return. Just OK experience here. This could have been due to my specific menu choices as well as the poor service received. The rest of my crew enjoyed their meals and the majority of the menu sounded great. If you are confronted with a myriad of side options, choose the fries. And if not, order them anyway! Really huge menu with tons of options! They have a bar. I noticed they had a pretty decent beer selection (written on the blackboard). They even had a mystery beer bucket (5 beers for 8 dollars if I remember correctly, it was a good deal). I opted for a cocktail however. My food was good. The crab bisque wasn't amazing, but it was pretty good. It looked like it was made with imitation crab meat. I can probably get a similar tasting soup out of a can. Side salad was fresh. I ordered the scallops in butter - they were good but nothing special. Honestly, what stood out the most was the French fries! BAD - My Bloody Mary was very watered down - the whole glass was full of ice. It tasted like spicy water with a hint of tomato juice. We had some service issues. Our waitress wasn't attentive at all. She only came by to place the order, not once asking if we needed anything. We kept having to flag down someone else to request ketchup, etc. Maybe they were understaffed, I understand that. However, she then forgot a plate. She brought out everyone's food, omitting someone's steak. We assumed it would be out shortly and was taking a bit longer to cook. She never came by to ask how we were doing and we had a hard time flagging her down. Had to ask someone else again. He found our steak laying in the kitchen - she had forgotten it. After the other waiter brought the steak, our waitress finally came by, asking how the food was and saying sorry about the steak. The person who ordered the steak (who is generally a sarcastic person) told her it was terrible and cold. I then watched her scoff and walk away, shaking her head. I thought this was inappropriate. She messed up, she needs to apologize and suggest some sort of compensation. Eventually, I guess she realized she needs to work for her tip and came by offering 20% off on the steak price and a comp drink. read more

Dined there this holiday weekend and I really liked their 5 bottled beers (bartenders choice) for $15. It is a really awesome idea to sample new beers at a great price and not spending a fortune if you end up not enjoying the beer. Now to the food: We ordered the nachos for food which were just broken tortilla chips and cheese with a side of salsa nothing to brag about at all especially the broken chips part. I also got their award winning chili with brisket that didn't have much flavor and tasted so smokey you couldn't really gather any other flavors in it sadly I was hoping for some damn cool chili .. Oh well moving on They did a Great job with the pork osso bucco OMGGGG it was to die for really tasty with the pan drippings I throughly enjoying soaking my baked potato in (this was on the specials menu) My boyfriend ordered the all you can eat wings which were large in size and he said the different sauces had a nice verity and lots of celery and carrots to choose from too as well as a baked potato for a starch - can't beat that deal for $13.99 plus you get a nice side salad as well Overall I'd go back just don't get the nachos people!!! read more

I'm not quite sure how to rate this place... my husband and I are new to the area and stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. We stood in the doorway for at least 10 minutes before being acknowledged by anyone. Once we were though, the staff was amazingly sweet and friendly. We were sat quickly, and the waitress was friendly and attentive, but the food took forever to come out. And when we finally did get our entrees, they were both pretty awful. My husband got a steak, and I got penne vodka with chicken, and both were very bad. However, the atmosphere was so great, staff was great, drinks were good, we both agreed we had a good time anyway, and want to go back and try just getting a sandwich or something simple. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I was expecting a dive with poor quality food and a ho-hum menu. Instead, it was a lively restaurant full of families with a few young people at the beautiful, historic bar, warm and festively decorated for Christmas. The menu is divided into "Rooms" featuring different meats and every permutation of sandwich you can imagine, including rubens and French dips. The specializations are unique and refreshing. I had a not-so-small "small" Timay sandwich for $6, which had some of the best corned beef I've ever had. Fries were flavorful and crispy. I can't really speak on the quality of any healthier items, which in my experience is usually lacking in this area, but I would probably give it a try given how impressed I was with the sandwich. read more

I'm originally from NYC...so it was a very pleasant surprise to find this gem nestled in the mountains of NE PA. Been coming here for 20 years...so you can always find something negative to say if you try hard enough...the live rat doing backstrokes in my French Onion soup or the time Glenda put me in a sleeper hold for under-tipping her. But almost always, the food has been excellent, the service superb and the atmosphere pleasant...like Cheers, but in the middle of nowhere. Went tonight for dinner and drinks. We didn't bring cash only a credit card. While having our first round of drinks we decided to have dinner somewhere else. There was a 10.00 minimum on credit cards... that was fine. As soon as we handed the menus back and told them that we wouldn't be eating. The owners daughter asked my wife if she wanted a half a beer to come to that 10.00 minimum on our check... like we were to poor to afford the two rounds of drinks... that was a huge insult.. we use to send 60.00 a week there for dinner. We will never darken the door again. So keep your insults , we will keep our money.... read more

Been going there on and off for a couple years now. While the food isn't always great. It does have its moments to be pleasant and unexpected. Unfortunately, This last visit was quite an infuriating one!!! There were some good points but mostly bad. Good: 1)The veggie soup I had was delicious. 2)At least the girl tried to apologize continuously about the new way they doing things. 3)There was at least a familiar waitress walking about to cheer you up from time to time when able. Bad: 1) They insulted someone that was with me by first setting us at a booth when personally they wouldn't fit 2) Playing with another flirting wise thinking their sly. (Male) 1)Waiting for drinks, appetizers,and soup/salad. 2)After getting at least soup/salad we're waiting for over an hr for main meal to be brought out and its insulting to most of it. 3) When asked to have one cooked better they bring back the same piece not even cooked more. (Female) Result: I was starting to get sick in the middle of waiting for this food. Ended up giving it to another so they don't. Someone else, besides me didn't eat cause they didn't want to see pink in their prime rib. To top it off Desert came with my food and I couldn't order anything. All because my stomach didn't want to digest anything at that point. I believe the only good points to that night was seeing a waitress I can connect with (wasn't able to serve us tonight) and seeing the B-day person get their Desert. Oh the excuse?
