I am extremely disappointed with both the service I received and the way I was treated during the appointment. I originally booked what I understood to be a simple root retouch and expected the service to cost approximately $80-$85. My expectation was straightforward: refresh my roots while preserving the overall length and appearance of my hair. Instead, the appointment turned into something completely different from what I agreed to. During the visit, additional services were added, including a Brazilian treatment, but pricing was not clearly explained or agreed to beforehand. By the end of the appointment, I was charged approximately $440 across both of my two cards. What upset me just as much as the result was the way comments were made about my hair throughout the appointment. Multiple times, comments were made such as asking why parts of my hair were different lengths and saying that I had "six different haircuts." I was repeatedly questioned with comments like, "What is this?" and "Why is this hair shorter than the other?" I understand stylists evaluate hair before working on it. However, these comments felt unnecessary and embarrassing to me. I have personal medical reasons that have affected my hair, and I do not believe I should be expected to explain private medical information in order to receive respectful service. Rather than feeling supported or listened to, I felt judged and uncomfortable. I was also unhappy with the actual result. More hair was cut than I expecte!!, and the final cut feels significantly shorter and more masculine than what I requested. Once hair is cut, that cannot simply be undone. Looking at the result afterward left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I also became concerned about the payment process. I had already left a tip, but afterward I became concerned that an additional tip may have been processed, which added to my discomfort about the overall experience. Another concern I had was the technique used during my appointment and the final result. From my perspective, it felt like much of the work was done using thinning shears rather than a traditional haircut approach, and the result left my hair feeling significantly thinner, shorter, and more uneven than I expected. I did not leave feeling like my concerns about preserving my hair were understood. Afterward, because I was so upset by the outcome, I showed the result to multiple stylists and salon professionals I know. Several of them expressed concern about the overall result and told me they understood why I was unhappy with the cut and appearance. Hearing similar feedback from people with salon experience made me feel even more concerned that what I received did not match my expectations. Combined with the comments made during the appointment about my hair being different lengths, I left feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable. My hair has personal history behind it, and I did not feel respected in the way those comments were communicated. At the end of the day, I did not expect perfection I expected clear communication, professional treatment, and a result that reflected the service I requested. I will proceed with a formal dispute through my bank and file a complaint with the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. read more

I had a horrible, uneven bang trim today and will not be back. The salon was pretty and the receptionist was friendly. She got me a drink and an apron right away. My hair stylist got me right away and immediately started cutting without really getting a sense of what I wanted. She asked me how short, I told her and she made the bangs one inch shorter than requested. She then started thinning out the bangs without my consent and told me after she was already doing it. They were uneven, shorter than I requested and thinned out. Never going back to this place. read more

I refrained from writing a negative review immediately because I wanted to fairly assess the results over a few weeks. Unfortunately, I am left completely dissatisfied and frustrated with the service I received from Mehrnoush at The House Salon. I have had keratin treatments done before, and the results were significantly better, smooth, shiny, frizz-free hair that lasted. What Mehrnoush did was "not even close" to a proper keratin treatment. I found her through an Instagram post by The House Salon showcasing what appeared to be a successful keratin result. Based on that, I booked an appointment. My hair was long, and I specifically asked for it to be cut above my shoulders so the ends wouldn't flip. I also made it clear that I was getting the keratin treatment to eliminate frizz and puffiness. As a new mother to a two-month-old, I emphasized that I needed low-maintenance hair that would air-dry smoothly, without blow-drying or styling. Mehrnoush acknowledged my requests. She cut my hair first, then did the keratin treatment. She initially quoted a price starting at $300 depending on length and density. She ended up charging me more, claiming she used more product because of the volume, despite the fact that I never saw her refill the bowl even once. Now, weeks later, there is no indication whatsoever that a keratin treatment was done. My hair looks and feels exactly the same as it did before. There is still frizz, puffiness, and no added shine or smoothness. I've had to use iron just as often - if not more - than before. No one could tell I had any treatment done. When I contacted her with a photo, her response was defensive and dismissive. She claimed, complete with exclamation marks, that keratin is a smoothing, not straightening treatment. That's a misleading excuse. I never expected straight hair. I expected smooth, frizz-free, manageable hair, what she claimed the treatment would deliver. She also told me "after the fact" that blow-drying was required to activate the product - something she failed to mention before or during the appointment. Even with blow-drying, there was zero difference. The frizz and puffiness remained, and the treatment provided no benefits at all. To make matters worse, she used Brazilian Blowout, a product marketed as formaldehyde-free, yet known to contain high levels of formaldehyde. She claimed it was safe, but as a professional, she should be fully informed - especially when working on a client who is a new mother and potentially breastfeeding. I only learned about the health risks after the appointment and, out of caution, had to discard three days' worth of pumped milk following the treatment, which was extremely upsetting to me as a new mother. I spent $400 on a service that did nothing! After three washes, my hair looks worse than ever. It's still frizzy, still puffy, and still flipping at the ends - so even the haircut was a failure. The entire experience was a complete waste of time and money. What's most disappointing is her unprofessional response. Instead of listening to my concerns and offering a resolution, she became defensive and insisted she had done a great job - placing the blame on my expectations. I went in excited for a manageable, low-maintenance look and left with nothing but disappointment. I will never return to this stylist and cannot recommend her to anyone. My sister's curtain bangs are uneven and look like a step ladder, despite us showing her our dissatisfaction. On top of that we were pressured to purchase salon items and tip well.
