I visited the Human Bean in Deer Valley after finding the nearest Starbucks was down for mobile orders. I chose this location due to its convenient location and drive-thru. I wasn't sure what to order, so I went with the safest seasonal option (Pumpkin Latte). Right now they have a cool Breast Cancer Awareness Month energy drink refresher you could try! The drive thru line was very quick! You order at the speaker and someone comes out to take your payment. Once you get to the window, you get your coffee and your bean. The "bean" is a chocolate covered coffee bean! The flavor and texture was definitely something new to me, but worth the try! The staff were quick, efficient, and kind. I'm not usually near a Human Bean, so when driving by this location I decided to stop here and try it out. The building looks pretty new and the exterior was nice. They have a drive thru and it looked like a walk up window as well. I went through the drive thru and ordered a 16 oz hot mocha. Paying was a breeze and the staff working were very nice. They also give you a chocolate covered espresso bean on top of your drink which is always a nice treat. Overall a great transactional experience. The downside for me was the drink itself - I couldn't taste the coffee or any chocolate even. I don't like drinks overly sweet so a more subtle mocha flavor is fine with me but it really just tasted like steamed milk. I'm not sure if the default for a mocha here is whole milk or even 2%, but I probably should have asked, so that's my bad. I like stronger drinks too, so it could just be my personal taste. The menu looks promising so I would likely give them another chance if back in the area and make sure I ordered my next drink with an extra shot and/or nonfat milk to get a better feel for what they have to offer. read more

My friend Natalie P. had been checking in to this place and I'm always on the search for a great iced latte. This is a Dutch Bros concept of drive through and walk up for ordering. I didn't want to hold up a line so I opted to walk up and order at the counter. I ordered the iced snowy mocha. Each drink is topped with a chocolate covered coffee bean which is a cute touch! The drink was good however, I think there is room for improvement on it. It tasted extremely watered down the second I sipped it. I expect ice to melt as it sits however it tasted watery as soon as it was served. Second, the beans tasted like they were over roasted almost a slight burnt flavor. Been on a coffee search lately and finally tried out the Human Bean. They seem to follow Dutch Bros service style in the drive thru, which during Covid might not be the greatest. The guy seemed to climb through our window and kept playing with his mask as he took our order. Very pleasant though! My husband ordered the Mexi Mocha which was rich and delicious. I ordered the salted caramel latte which was a great disappointment. Potentially I got someone else's order of just and iced coffee? Mine had no flavor whatsoever - really just tasted like a watery iced coffee. Unfortunately I didn't try it until we were on the freeway and wasn't going to turn around. When she handed it to me, she said it was a salted caramel latte, so who knows?? I certainly won't order that again. The place was clean, the service was quick and polite. The chocolate covered espresso bean a nice touch. Will potentially give them another shot if around the neighborhood. Not bad coffee. My first time here and I told her what flavors I liked. Which are caramel , vanilla, & mocha and she added all 3 of them. All the drinks are customizable and their sweet drinks aren't overly sweet and sugary so you can still taste the coffee, which is so refreshing! I love the quick drive-through, and the baristas are so incredibly kind, friendly, and attentive, and give recommendations if you just can't decide on what you want to get for the day. They have anything from lattes to frozen blended coffee drinks or smoothies, to energy drinks -- anything your heart and taste buds desire. There was no menu to look at, was told there is a secret menu, but they did not offer to show it to me instead suggested that I could go to the drive-through and look at that menu. We ordered a latte and a cold brew which was mostly ice along with 2 muffin tops that were crème brûlée. Since we moved, I have been trying new places in search of the best iced mocha ever. I also say those exact words when I order so they know what I'm looking for. Today I tried The Human Bean. I pulled up and looked at the menu board and felt like I may be on to greatness here. They had a staff taking orders outside who was super pleasant and actually typed in the best iced mocha ever on her handheld. When I payed, she asked me if I had ever been there before and I said no. She said, so this order is the deciding factor if you return or not? I said yes, and I told her I would also Yelp about everything. I pulled forward and the staff making my drink sadly had her mask hanging down past her nose. She said I am just finishing your best iced mocha ever!!! She handed it to me and we drove home. When I got home I took the usual photos for you guys and braced myself for the first sip. I didn't think their usage of 2% milk instead of whole milk would make that big of a difference, but it totally did. (They did not offer whole milk as an option.) I'm not an avid coffee drinker. I get a hankering for an iced mocha once a week. Apparently my quest for the BIME has left me with a standard that I did not realize existed until today. (I feel like the Law & Order GUNG GUNG! should be inserted here) My first sip left me scratching my head if I liked it or not. I wasn't instantly overwhelmed with goodness at all. It was shrug your shoulder just ok. I like a thick, sweet, but not too sweet extra ice mocha. I like to taste the sugar on the ice cubes as I take a drink. I like the chocolate smeared lightly on the inside of the cup, and I love when the mix of the milk and coffee form a picture perfect meld of goodness. Who doesnt?!! (Also this is an "In real time Yelp" of my experience) I have now taken several drinks of this 20oz mocha and I am probably not going to drink anymore. (I should have ordered the small, that's a note to self.) I don't know if the mask hanging past the nose had any play in this; I'm such a germaphobe, but that's a sexy thing always. However this thin watery coffee drink was not the best ever. It's not that it wasn't made with love, because I believe it was, minus the health risks. It just wasn't my cup of tea. The staff were super nice, but would have been nicer if the staff making the drinks wore her mask correctly... did I mention that already?!? Hello, is this thing on? Tap, tap, tap. Overall the Human Bean is not for me. I need whole milk, I have standards dang it! I need everyone to respect there is a virus regardless. I need to find the perfect coffee! Been driving by this place for a while so finally sun morning I thought I would give them a try. First for the good the staff were very friendly and they give you a chocolate covered coffee bean with your drink it is delicious. Those two things got them 2 stars. Now for the bad I drink my coffee black so I ordered a large hot black coffee it was mediocre at best first off it was not hot it was Warm and it tasted like Denny's coffee I understand I didn't get anything fancy it was just a black coffee but that is the base of your drinks.
