I was told I would be charged $6 for a hummus at the Beaverton Farmers Market (it was the end of the day and he needed to "sell this stuff or I would get fired") WHATEVER. I just checked my email receipt and not only was I charged full price, but I was also charged a small transaction free. No signage anywhere mentions this nor did the gentleman who sold me hummus. read more

The stars are for the product, which I can often find at farmers markets. However, I'm genuinely so confused by this location. It's really close to me, and I've tried to stop several times and have never seen it open (despite the hours posted showing open every time). I'm not sure if they just no longer offer in store business, but I wouldn't recommend going to the store unfortunately. The product is fantastic if you can find it out in the wild though! read more

I've found them again! Remembered having their hummus a long long time ago back in California but never remembered what their name was until I stumblef upon them at the Beaverton Farmers Market. This is easily the best hummus I have ever had! I got the cilantro jalapeño, garlic chive, and original. All three flavors were outstanding. Truly some of the best hummus and pita bread you'll find in the States and I've had my fair share of hummus from different places. My only complaint is that I wish they had a location closer to us on the Oregon coast. Really liked the jalapeño hummus, Olive Salad, Pita and tzatziki sauce. For $25 I had fresh, plant based lunches all week. Just added chicken, beans, or frozen falafel. Even had left overs to dip chips and veggies in. Best part is, I grabbed this spread at the Hollywood farmers market and didn't have to prep all these things for only two people. Taste doesn't compare to store bought. Not by a long shot. This business seems like a casual, family run "stop" that is open when it is. Don't expect a polished business machine. It's more of an artisanal vibe. I purchased from a couple of young people who looked like their parents wandered off and couldn't answer questions. Fine with me. I like supporting small, family run operations. The quality is usually superior, as was the case here. Suggest you check them out at a local market if you love Mediterranean dips. Once upon a time there lived a weird little boy and girl. They decided it would be a fun idea to go on a hummus diet. They were driving home one day and pulled over to heed the stop sign. The stop sign on The Hummus Stop that is. They went through the doors and a man eager to hand out samples greeted them. He was pushy about the samples, but not necessarily about making a sale. He seemed genuinely excited for others try his concoctions. The little boy and girl settled on a $5 bag of freshly made pita chips and a few different flavors of hummus (including a really good kalamata olive & chive one). They snuck these items home and gorged on this hummus diet approved dinner for the next three nights. It was delicious, hearty, and creamy. This is the most delicious hummus I have ever tasted. Sundried Tomato Basil, Lemon Basil, Avocado, & Roasted Red Pepper are delectable, but I cannot stop dreaming about the Artichoke hummus. Everything about and at this place is awesome! I've bought food from this place many times at various farmers markets around Portland and they have always been excellent. The ladies who've manned the booth may be a bit assertive for you to taste test but it just means that you get try everything they have before deciding to buy (which you likely would and should!). They have a collection of hummus's, tapenade, yogurts, and pita chips, and they are all super tasty. My personal favorite is the garlic hummus and pita chips, but their cilantro jalapeno and roasted red pepper are also exceptionally flavorful, rich, and creamy. Everything is homemade, fresh, and great for snacks or as part of a meal. The chips are great by themselves and range from hard and crunchy to fluffy and airy, so you get a nice variety of different textures and starkness. read more

Hummus "Wars" I have written a couple of times about these two guys, Hummus Stop, and Baba Fresh (across Capitol Hwy from each other) slugging it out for hummus dominance in SW Portland. I am declaring a "winner" based on having visited both establishments several times. I am going with Baba Fresh. For one primary reason only. The Baba Fresh proprietor is a genuinely nice guy and always appreciates your business. The guys at Hummus Stop in the same regard? Not so nice. A bit heavy-handed on the sales end, and really pushy. And while hospitality alone is enough to put Baba Fresh on top for me, one can't ignore the primary reason for visiting one of these establishments - quality and taste of the food. I am sure there are many regional variations of preparing hummus and pita, but I prefer the products at Baba. The hummus is smoother and creamier than Hummus Stop, and the pita prepared in the traditional manner that I am personally used to. I was especially unhappy with the Hummus Stop's pita chips, which is one of their signature items. If you have ever been in the Southern US and eaten fresh crackling? Hummus Stop's chips remind me of that. Thick, kinda tough, with an oily taste. Not so hot. When you are traveling out near PCC Sylvania, and are in the mood for a little bite, or a fancy coffee, don't stop at Hummus Stop, but I suggest you check out Baba Fresh. read more

Be warned of the addicting nature of the pita chips. I made the mistake of putting these crispy, light chips with equally grand hummus on the table as an appetizer. Within a few minutes, we were into the second bag and the reserve hummus. Eventually, there was no need to cook--we just ate the salad and basked in all the slightly greasy carbs we had consumed. Sadly, this isn't near my beaten path any more, but it is worth a 10 minute swing to get a treat for my family. The counter intelligence is nothing short of joyful--they really want you to sample and enjoy their products. Hard not to have fun here. read more

When you walk in- it's basically their kitchen- it was kinda weird because I didn't know what to do or I felt like I shouldn't have been there. Someone came out from a corner seat and helped me. He pointed to the hummus filled frig and recommended different flavors which ranges from eggplant, bell pepper, artichoke and some spicy one. I got 3 hummus, a bag of pita and pita chips =$25 One item is $6 but buy 5 for $25 Good smooth hummus! I pref the chips over the reg bread because it's super crispy and sprinkled with flavor (salt pepper and greens) read more

As my fellow yelp followers know, I'm a Baristadors fanatic (thank God for Stumptown!) One night I figured I would drop in, because I knew it would be a while before I find myself at PCC again. When I arrived, I parked right in front of The Hummus Stop, which is next door to Barisadors. As I sipped my delicately made white mocha for a few hours, it was time to leave. Right as I walked out the door, a man out front of Hummus Stop invited me in for free samples. When I heard the word free, my sense of direction toward the car was redirected toward Hummus Stop's door, also it didn't help matters that my stomach was very hungry! Right away the Middle Eastern/Amercian gentleman was squeezing hummus of all flavors onto freshly made pita bread. Keep in mind I'm just a country boy at heart and haven't had much hummus in my life, beside from what I've ate at McMen's. Standing there I'm feeling bad for parking outside their business for hours, and then I'm thinking they must be going through hard times to be welcoming coffee addicts into trying out some hummus so forwardly. After trying all the flavors in front of me, my taste buds begin to take over. My train of thought goes from resisting the man's sales tatics to, this hummus is just too damn delicious! There's a reason this tiny treasure has five stars overall, and just like Baristadors, small and unheard of by most, the customers who know of these places feel a special connection and can enjoy their coffee and hummus for the taste and not for convenience. The price for the hummus is also cheap, two units has lasted me two weeks, and that's $5 a unit. They usually only accept cash, they have a weak internet connection and it's difficult for them to use cards, even though my card was accepted. The owner's name is Muhammad and he is a very courteous and respectful man. He even offered me a part time job. The Hummus Stop is worth stopping by with out a doubt. Just be careful because there is a business across the street that sales hummus, and they have been known to tell customers they are The Hummus Stop. read more

The new hummus mecca of Portland has arrived, and it is on Capitol Hwy. Go figure. I wanted some tabbouleh, and unfortunately they had sold out. Rather than feel disappointed, I took it as a sign that they must be doing something right if their stuff was selling. The owner proclaimed to me that he had 16 flavors of hummus, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't going to let me leave until I tried at least half of them. I don't remember how many flavors I put in my mouth, but it was like a 4th of July, multi-boom theatrical flavor explosion. I left with 3 flavors, and will be back for more. My favs so far: Baba ganoush hummus (lovely roasted eggplant flavor), spicy harissa hummus (never seen such a brilliant idea), and roasted garlic and chive (nom nom nom). The gentleman was running a special, so you should visit them, support a local business, and enter the holy land of hummus. read more

Yes, The Hummus Stop is that good. I have tried several kinds of hummus and they were all terrific. "Kalamata Olives & Chives" is amazing. The falafel was flavorful and a had perfect consistency. They seem to take fresh very seriously here and it is obvious in every bite. Everything is made daily. The prices are reasonable. They offer some quantity deals so its better to stock up. Best of all -- free samples are happily offered. You never need to buy anything here without trying it first. Keep in mind that this is a store/deli, not a restaurant -- no tables, no falafel sandwiches, no meza plates. And, it is cash only. read more

I just stumbled upon this store at the Oregon City Farmer's Market. I sampled EVERY item offered and found nothing that I didn't love. I even fell in love with the roasted red pepper hummus and I don't even like red peppers! I ended up buying a pack of their freshly made pita bread, and three different dips; avocado and cilantro hummus, baba ganoush and tabbouleh. All this for $19. Worth every penny. Capitol Highway is not on any of my typical routes so this is definitely going to have to be a destination store after the Farmer's Market closes in October. I don't know when I started to like mediterranean food. I think it just started to grow on me and I'm starting to get a lot more unwanted facial hair (not that any facial hair is wanted by me) these days. Any connection? read more

I was never much of a hummus fan until I sampled this at the Cannon Beach Farmer's Market. Amazing stuff!!! I ended up buying 9 containers for myself, my daughter, and a neighbor. Took it to a friend's BBQ and everyone raved about it. If you are in Cannon Beach on a Tuesday afternoon, be sure to stop by the Farmer's Market and stock up on this, you will not regret it. This place is delightful. I would stop by here on my way home from PCC every couple weeks and stock up on fresh pita chips, hummus and the occasional Taboule. They are VERY generous with their samples. Definitely the best hummus I have ever had. Unfortunately I have switched campuses and will not be in that area very often, but I will make every excuse to stop by when I can. The only con I can think of is their hours are kind of unpredictable, and not listed. I would stop by at noon on a Tuesday, and they would be closed. read more

If you like hummus and foods of that ilk, definitely try the Hummus Stop. I've been meaning to check them out and finally got an opportunity today. I was immediately greeted and given a few samples of their many hummus varieties, all of which were Count Dankula (which I believe is the highest rating on my Dank Scale...I'll double check and get back to you on that). Basically I ended up wanting one of everything. After some pondering by yours truly, and some explanations by the very friendly and helpful salesperson, I grabbed the black bean chipotle hummus, artichoke salad, stuffed grape leaves and a bag of whole wheat pita. When I got home I opened the artichoke salad and started eating...I could not stop until it was gone. At that point I didn't have much room but I still managed to down a pita with hummus and one of the grape leaves. Excellent on all counts. I'm pretty sure I would have paid at least the same amount at the grocery store for stuff that wouldn't be nearly the same quality. Also it's very handy, healthy and quick. So now the Hummus Stop is going to be a regular stop for me. read more

I ran out of Avocado Cilantro hummus from Saturdays market (it's Sunday, ahem) and realized there's no feasible way I can wait until Saturday for more. ALAS! Like any respectable business, their address is on my licked-clean, plastic hummus container and I have found them on Yelp! Before, they were always known as "the really nice guys that give delicious free hummus samples on their pita chips that might as well be crack". I used to be a big fan of grocery store hummus - you know the kind... near the deli section. No longer! This is THE MOST delicious hummus! First rate! Comparable to your favorite Mediterranean restaurant. Although original is a guaranteed winner, my favorites are the kalamata olive and avocado (sounds weird, but it's fabulous). Tazatiki and babaganoush is nice too. Also, who knew their pita chips would be amazing - I don't think they use their normal pita bread, or else maybe they've got a secret seasoning just for the chips. Anyway, 5/5 stars! Def recommend. I'm not big on hummus. Generally, I've eaten it because it's available and because of the notion that it's fairly good for you. For me, it's often the equivalent of eating plain yogurt or a scoop of sour cream-- it needs a LOT of help. Well, I've never eaten hummus like this. It's delicious. I had 4 different varieties and they were all incredibly flavorful. The one w garlic actually tasted like fresh garlic, unfortunately I ate it at work...lol... I'm sure no one else appreciated that. I took it home and hubby devoured it. The containers are small, but it's so rich and flavorful that a little goes a long way. I'd buy again and again. Way to go Hummus Stop! OMG... I almost forgot about the pita chips! I've never had ANYTHING like them before. Half way through the bag, I started hoarding them. I said something to hubby like I am SO tired of all the crackers we have. So, that night when I got home from work and looked for the pita chips, they were gone. I asked where the bag went and he said " honey, I threw out all the crackers, you said you were tired of them!" Devastated!!! The eggplant hummus and the fire roasted red pepper are so good! Discovered them at the Farmers Market in Happy Valley.

Over the summer we picked up the Hummus Stop pita bread, hummus, and tabouli regularly at the Beaverton Farmers market. The tabouli is some of my favorite - real lemony and lots of parsley in the mix! The hummus is always fresh and not to heavy on the garlic like other places. The pita bread is soft and is great for sandwiches as well as mini pizzas. I'm very happy that they now have a store-front. The only thing that I would suggest is that they offer small bites for sale in the store - maybe lentil soup or pita sandwiches. read more
