We came to this spot to listen to a band. The ambiance both inside and out were so cool with great vibes. The place was very busy, so we did have to wait awhile for our food, but it was worth the wait. We got the blackened chicken wrap and it was one of the best wraps I've ever had. We arrived early for a show and learned that there would be three bands for entertainment. We took a booth in the front so we would have a good view. The place had been here for a long time and many folks around CT were familiar with it as a music venue. I ordered a turkey club on rye which was pretty dry. My date had the meatloaf which he liked . They didn't have ingredients for an old fashion so we had beer. Our waiter was Jodie who was attentive even though the room was filled up with music fans. Overall it was a good night. I would say the only reason I have been to this bar is to see the bands, which are decent. However- this bar is extremely small, especially for a place that hosts bands/events. We ordered nachos and it looked like someone just microwaved some Tostitos with cheese on top. They have the audacity to charge cover ($7) when they have shows which seems like a lot given this is definitely a dive bar in a random location. It is more of a local bar, not really in a popular or walking area. It is near Charter Oak park so there is plenty of parking. The Tiger is what it is- a cross between a dive bar and an amazing music hall. If you're expecting more from it, then you'll be disappointed. The bands are varied and I've seen some great acts and some lousy ones. Most of the time the music is cranked too loud, though- so come for the music and crowd, not for a quiet dinner date. The staff has always been very friendly to me and my friends. However, there is a lot of turnover (just like most places in the post-covid era) and that can lead to inexperienced and overwhelmed staff. Don't expect 5 star service! While I haven't had too much, the food is good for where it comes out of (this is NOT a restaurant). I had one of the best burgers ever during one of the block parties. Jambalaya was great. This place definitely deserves to be on "bar rescue". To the person complaining about cover charges- the cover is dictated by the band. They want to be paid for lugging all that equipment out and performing for you. Most places that attract bands like this are asking for much more expensive ticket prices in addition to all the fees they tack on. $7 to see a full band an the Tiger is a GIFT! read more

The bar looks like an old golden wood pub from the 80's. The Tiger is famous for wings and they are very good. Strong drinks and dive bar through and through. Overall I liked the vibe for a chill Friday night. Nothing fancy. Prices aren't too bad either. TIP: Go out back and enjoy the music, dance in the parking lot if you want. I'm a regular here and go at least once a week for the comedy open mic Tuesday nights hosted by Matt Heath. It's a fun time. One of the few open mics where there are people coming in to watch. Don, the owner books a lot of great other weekly events like karaoke on Sunday nights and music open mic on Thursdays. There's also a live music schedule that can be checked out on their website. The place has an old school charm with walls adorned with signed photos of musicians visiting throughout the years. It's a bar you come to hang out with your friends. I will also be putting on a comedy play called Renaissance Men coming this winter! This place really brings people together. Music, comedy, food, beer, friends. What more can you ask for? read more

Hungry Tiger is THE live music staple of Manchester. The summer patio rocks! Great selection of drinks. They sell pitchers which is rare nowadays. Everyone goes for the bar, cool atmosphere, and entertainment (not the food which I suspect is the reason it's only 3 stars). 3 stars is totally unfair to this place. If you like live music, then this is a great place to see it. They have it Wednesday thru Saturday every week, usually 2 bands both nights on the weekends. Great local place to go to meet friends for drinks but as far as the food goes that's a different story. We ordered nachos and basically what we got were chips with cheese melted on top. No thought put into it at all . Another appetizer was a sampler platter of breaded chicken , mushrooms and I forget the other but it was horrible. I ordered the jambalaya tonight for the second time. The first time it was absolutely wonderful but tonight it was completely different. It tasted very bland and there were only two small shrimp included. I was very disappointed and wondered what the heck happened? Also, the french fries were greasy and limp. When I got home, my wife tasted one and immediately spit it out. I don't know whether I will give the hungry tiger another try with the jambalaya or not. read more

I give five stars for the band , they were great (In Deep) I love the big bad ass biker that tried to walk out with a woman's purse, she tackled him and got it back, I love the two women who smashed bottles over each-others heads on the outdoor patio, flipped over all the tables and beat each other up in a pretty long fight that should've been broken up quicker by the bouncers standing within 4 feet. the good old days are back! read more

The waitress refused to honor my yelp check-in offer (free pint of beer with purchase of entree). She said she had never seen or heard of it before. We did not receive napkins until we asked for them. They were out of onion rings, chicken wings and 10 penny ale?? The food was terrible. I could taste the fact that the friolater grease had not been changed in a while and the bread for my monterey chicken sandwich was 3 times bigger than the chicken breast. My friend ordered a burger cooked medium rare and the picture that I posted provides the evidence of how well that went. I was very disappointed with the service and the food........however...... it was nice to see a place has live blues music on a monday night. They need to hire more than one person for the FOTH because the bartender was the only person there and she was responsible for executing the roles of the host, waitress, and bartender....... This local bar is right in our backyard & it took me so many years to visit and I'm glad I finally did. Good food,great music!! ...this is perfect spot to unwind. Nice open area... super busy summer nights which kinda took a toll on the bartender who was single handedly running the show. Plenty parking if not on lot in the park behind. Had to pay a cover charge of $10 each which covered 2 bands that were playing that night. We only stayed for one show, and had a couple of beers. It was hard to get a table so we didn't get any food. I visited The Hungry Tiger years ago to hear a band I liked at the time. I almost went a few months ago when a local band that we enjoy was planning to play there, but canceled. Recently - a friend mentioned that he and his wife enjoy hearing live music there, that they have great wings and suggested we visit. We looked up who was playing Saturday night, it was the Terry Rand Band, we checked out their MySpace page, they sounded "OK". We arrived about 6:45, when we arrived there was no cover charge. The waitress seated us in the Bar area at our request and took our drink orders. We ordered some appetizers. The band was already doing sound checks. I ordered Ribs and the rest of our party ordered drinks and appetizers. The food was very good. The wings were great as promised and the ribs hit the spot. The band we were listening to sounded a little better than their My Space Page demo. The Terry Rand Band. I was pleasantly surprised.. they played primarily original stuff, most of it quite good. They also played some less well know Springsteen songs. Hungry Tiger - a very good experience. The owner Rob, came and spoke with us while we were seated and said goodbye at the door. A very genuinely interesting guy, told us a bit about local artists. You can tell he loves the music scene. We enjoyed ourselves, and even "Bought the T-shirt" with Tiger Paws on the front. :) If you are looking for a bite to eat and live music in a relaxed atmosphere. You really can't miss. These kind of places are only to be frequented when it's dark, late, and theres a loud hard hitting band! Shiny, happy, divey....and 2 stars for a reason. Yet 3 stars (maybe 4) in other ways. I'm torn. First, because I have to get it off my chest, I'll tell you about negative: My gal pals and I stopped into the Hungry Tiger around 7 on Friday night to grab some brews and pub grub before seeing a band perform there later in the night. The Hungry Tiger brings in some pretty rad local bands- AND fantastic shows by NYC and Boston performers. We sat down with some pints ($3.75 Long Trail specials on Friday) and ordered some boneless buffalo wings and mozzarella sticks. They were perfectly mediocre, which was expected, since this divey little bar isn't really known for its menu. Here's the part that really pissed me off. After eating and drinking for two and a half hours (the band my friend wanted to see didn't come on until 10), the bar doorman dude came to our table and asked us each to pay $8 in cover to see the band. Again, AFTER WE WERE IN THE BAR for a substantial amount of time, obviously spending money on drinks and bar bites. We were all floored- and didn't have cash (we had tabs going with the waitress). So the bar added the $8 cover to each of our bills. Such utter bullshit- I've never had that happen before. Either you get in for free before a certain time or you don't. Aside from this, the beer selection is nothing to rave about, and the vibe is kinda dingy. The postive: Like I mentioned before, some wonderful bands play at the Tiger. If you're up for a night of cold brews and live music, by all means, stop by. Just know that paying cover is non-negotiable-- even if you've been ordering food and drinks in the bar for 2 and a half hours already. Oh, on another positive note, we had an absolutely fantastic waitress. Even when the bar was packed, she was consistently checking in to refill drinks (and addressed each of us by name after learning them at the beginning of the night). Seriously 5 star service last night. Wish I could say the same for the rest of my experience. read more

I'd like to file a complaint against the Hungry Tiger in Manchester, CT. I was there today (6/7/14) for a Pub Run. The post run BBQ was held at the Hungry Tiger. The three food service staff, which included two cooks and who I believe was the bar owner, were handling food with their bare hands. At one point I saw one of the cooks pick his nose. A short time later I saw him placing hamburger buns in a bowl with both of his bare hands. I'm not sure if he washed his hands after picking his nose. Either way, it is unacceptable and I am disgusted. Never coming back. read more

My friends and I have lived close by for a while, but avoided this place because of all the one star reviews. We're all gonna move out soon, so we thought it would be funny if we all tried it once because surely it couldn't be that bad. It's 4:36 in the morning, and I am glued to the toilet, sick as a dog. The Hungry Tiger is almost a Manchester Institution. The food ranges from appetizers to pub fare to full entrees. They always have a good selection of beer, and fully stocked bar. I've yet to hear a bad band play there. I had a taco salad, and it really hit the spot. Asking for no tomatoes wasn't a problem. The waitress was friendly and kowledgable. We used to refer to it as the "hungry hallway", it is tiny. Food is pretty good. They get great bands in here sometimes so I would like to give a positive review but I just can't. The owner(i believe?or maybe just passes himself off as such) Don is unpleasant (also cheated a waitress out of a most of her tip when we hosted a party). The bartenders are incredibly rude, ignore people and can't mix a drink to save their lives. If there is a good band it will be really packed. If a band you want to see is playing here I would say that you should A. bring a guy to get your drinks (females at bar are slightly nicer to guys) and B. only drink beer. read more

Lots of memories here, especially for the Thanksgiving Day road race, but ultimately this is a biker bar. Food is not good. At all. This is primarily a place to come to drink. They have your average spirits selection, your average beer on tap, though they mostly serve bud and the like. Grungy and somewhat dirty on the inside, can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. Bartenders have always been rude - I've often gotten attitude just for ordering multiple things or a specific type of drink/cocktail. I know, what a chore, making drinks when you're a bartender. Pfft. Nice owner, but overall, this place is meh and I'd rather spend my hard earned money elsewhere for quality food, drink and service. read more

The music was ok. The service here is hands down the worst I have ever experienced in my life. Took 45 min for the table to get cleared from the previous party, about that same time to get drinks and menus. Food was soggy and taste like old oil. Waitress was rude and rolled her eyes at almost every table. The table next to us accidentally spilled a beer and she just left a puddle on the floor. I was really shocked when I first stepped foot into Hungry Tiger. We had parked in the back lot and walked up the walkway, which really fed into this "we just walked into somebody's basement" feeling. Or possibly a VFW hall. Anyway, we were there for karaoke (which currently is hosted on Sunday nights by Karaoke Mafia) but I was really a little apprehensive due to the atmosphere of the place. We sucked it up, got drinks, and went and sat over near the stage...and ended up actually having a really awesome night. In fact, we've been back a bunch of times. There's funny stickers on the wall behind the bar, room to boogie a little near the stage, and no pretension. Drinks are reasonable, and strongly mixed most of the time. There's a lot in the back for parking, outdoor seating on a patio in the front, and it's got a homey vibe to it that makes me feel comfortable. They've got a pub menu - one item that was pretty awesome was homemade kettle chips cheese, bacon and sour cream to dip them in. Good stuff. I've never known the owner or any of the bartenders to be rude or unpleasant to me. Quite the opposite, actually. But, everyone has their off days I guess. Always had a good time. read more

Went here with a friend and was rather unimpressed. Compared to other local dive bars this one is much lower on the totem pole. We went during open mic comedy night which was okay, but the real disappointment was the food. We both got burgers which would've been better up the street. Beers were reasonably priced. Parking around back is hard to find at first but it is there. Just seemed a little sketchy and not much for the value. I have never hated a bar as much as I hate this place. I order a water and it was full of moldy ice. I order a beer and there is rust where the cap was (I didn't dare order a draft) and when I informed the bartender she acted like it was the norm and that I was bothering her. The kitchen, which was slightly visible from the bar, looked like it had never been cleaned. Same goes for the bathroom. The place even smelled mildewy. I eventually ended up meeting the owner who clearly doesn't care about this place one bit. I noticed him because he was attempting to grope at a group of seemingly underage girls... I tried chatting with him to give them the opportunity to get away from him. He ended up shouting at me when I politely told him that the ice machine may need a thorough cleaning. He told me to finish my beer and get out. So I did. There are some great bands who play here but unfortunately I will not be hearing any of them. read more
