So for me, a five-star review happens when everything about the experience is good. It's a pub, yes...great location away from the downtown scene. The draft selection is outstanding and beers came right away. Outside seating, check. Food: fresh, lovely, well-seasoned, perfect menu choices for what you will look for at a pub. Service also lovely and I think the owner bussed our table so I was able to let him know the food was excellent. We tried the nacho appetizer (fresh chips, real cheese and crisp veggies), salmon salad and a burger. Burger cooked med-rare as requested, yummy fries with skin on, and salad was perfectly salad-y with good combination of ingredients. Decent food and nice cheerful ambience-- a welcome antidote to the "so hip you can't stand it" vibe of many of the Pearl St area joints. That said, I would like it even better if the wait staff were trained to understood that the "wait" part means please try to wait until there's a lull in the conversation between patrons before asking for our attention. My friend, who is an actual legit front-line essential worker and nearly worn down to a nub, was hard-interrupted at least four times when talking to me at the table last night. When you make someone feel less valued by interrupting them when they're trying to say something meaningful, you're not improving their customer experience, you're killing it. I know you're not the only joint in town that has this problem, but I would love to see you be part of the solution instead. read more

Regarding the grub, predictable, perfectly fine food at a predictable price. I ordered the veggie burger, which was a little on the dry side, but the brioche bun I found delightfully sweet. The salad was a couple extra leaves and cut carrots. the Hungry Toad's most redeeming quality is the aesthetic. The British decorations, signs and paintings were perfectly quaint, and most of all, not at all in the vein of what you might see of another restaurant in Boulder. It's a nice, stylish, elegant English pub. Food is excellent. Everything I've had is great--out of maybe 8 dishes over 15+ visits (reordering favorites and sampling the plates of others). If we're doing a night out with no specific plans this is the default and we're always happy to go and pleased to have been. my son and I went there between his flag football games.. just trying to get a lemonade for him and a quick beer for me. we ordered the drinks and then nobody or nothing happened for about ten minutes.. I then got up and looked around the bar to see if anyone was getting them. there was nobody behind the bar at all. the manager or hostess then came up to me and go right in my face and said "Sir, I'm going to need you to calm down, somebody will help you soon" - Probably the rudest interaction I've ever had at a restaurant.. we got up and left immediately and will NEVER be back. just simply awful. read more

Ambiance was great. Service was okay. Food was bad. We ordered fish and chips which they are renown for and it was filled with fish bones! We had to ask waiter twice to clear the disgusting bone debris away from the table and he only cleared part. Caesar salad was fishy tasting and gross. Server didn't even clear table even through my partner puked at the table into his napkin. We paid and serve still hadn't cleared gross food away. I would NOT recommend and actually warn people against it! We came home and made dinner ourselves after we left since the food wasn't edible. Called new manager the next day about the experience and she hung up the phone on me! Good luck with parking but food poisoning is also an issue because we both were puking within hours of eating just a few bites of food there (and a few bones too)! read more

Why did the hungry toad cross the road? To get a frosty pint, of course! While there are thankfully few 'actual' amphibians in this British pub (but I dare say a few barflies), a recent stop into this intriguing pub right on the corner of Broadway + North brings you into the shepherd's pie and fish 'n chips pubbiness that conjures the Beatles, David Beckham's right leg (or his left leg, for that matter...), and the late Mr. Bowie. The menu is bloody huge. The food portions are the size of Sarah Brightman's vocal range. Go-go boots are making a comeback and it's easy to imagine they all beat a path to this spot for their daily drink and food specials. Happy hour features things like $4 nachos (beef chili, cheddar, jack, jalapeno, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, guacamole, sour cream) and $4 baked brie (French bread, fresh fruit, strawberry preserves). I didn't try their french onion soup, but Rumour Has It (a shout out to Adele) that it is worthy of a song. Enough of my tired British quips? Ok, ok...I retreat like the British soldiers at Dunkirk...but it is worth a stop into this cool pub the next time you have a nudging for some classic British pub fare! read more

Who puts HAM on a VEGGIE BURGER!?!?!? Gross! So, my veggie burger comes out, and there is a thick-ass piece of ham on it. Gross, but I would have forgiven them. Except when I said "excuse me, there appears to be ham on my VEGETARIAN burger," she said "Oh, sorry. I can take it off for you." She picks out the ham and throws it out, leaving me with the same pork-flavored veggie burger. Nasty. I also don't like that they use boring, Wonder Bread buns. If you're going to pay $10 for a burger, the bun should at least be bakery quality, if not home made. Add to that bad experience the long wait, and lack of good beer selection, and I just dint think I'll be back to the Toad. Though I do like the warm, pub-like atmosphere and fact that no CU kids go here- hence the 2 stars. There will now be one less person in front of you waiting for a table :-) read more

Also, the walls are covered with murals depicting bikini clad and frat boy frogs. Yes, frogs in bikinis. Hungry Toad obviously caters to CU students. There are numerous tvs featuring games of interest. I got to watch my home team win the NBA championship game while chowing down. They also have a patio outside. For what it is, a British pub with pub food, the hungry Toad is pretty good. It's not going to compete food wise with some of the finer restaurants in Boulder but the atmosphere is fun and the food is good bar food. What a cool little spot with a lot of character and food with flavor. Came here with some friends to get a few beers and burgers. Wasn't too busy, and we were seated quickly. With its corner location, you feel the neighborhood vibes as soon as you sit down, and the atmosphere is cozy with a dash of happiness to it. Our waitress was great and never hovered, and served up our food as soon as it was ready. I can't even remember the name of the burger I ordered because it was so delicious that I blacked out for a moment and lost short-term memory. The fries were awesome as well, and paired with the beer I got, it was one damn good dinner. Everyone was really happy with their choices, and our plates were clean before we even realized it. First off, we really want this restaurant to be successful. That being said, it's time for Ownership & Management to figure out staffing issues. We sat down and didn't get drinks for 15-20 minutes. The food took nearly 30 minutes later to arrive. This isn't a first time experience for our family, it happens more often than not and we try periodically hoping service issues will be fixed. This experience happened after 7:00pm on a Wednesday night. My suggestion would be not to offer the back patio in a parking lot if you can not adequately cover the inside of the restaurant. It's not fair to guests let alone the staff that is suffering. We realize the restaurant industry has gone thru challenging times over the past few years, but it's time to step up to pre-pandemic levels of service. read more

I'll be honest. I love everything about this place (except that it is not quite within walking distance from my home). They have enough beers on tap that you can definitely find one to suit you palate, but not so many that you spend half of your time there reading every palate choice. To me, that is what a pub should be. The food: the food is reminiscent of true pub fare. it is not overpriced and it tastes like it came out of real ingredients, not just frozen patties and deep fryers. I had their rueben on the experience I am currently discussing and it was - by far - the most amazing rueben in town. The corned beef is real corned beef. It was not the style you see in America. It really was reminiscent of the UK. All-in-all, this is as close to a real English pub you will find in the States and it's a place I am going to make a concerted effort to frequent more often. Fantastic place! It's decorated like an Irish pub, and it's very comfortable. The outdoor seating area is wonderful in warm weather. I love the music they play, and the volume doesn't prevent a quiet conversation. The portions are E-normous! I usually order the veggie burrito, and it fills me up easily. Usually the Toad is my favorite burger in town. Good sized patty, great toppings, excellent fries. I learned tonight that if you are getting take out, maybe cut into the burger before you leave to see that it's cooked how you asked. I got home to find my 'medium well' burgre was closer to rare - very pink. They hadn't really put much blue cheese on it either but were good about fixing that when I checked it before I left. Will probably order again but it's a shame they're not more reliable about cooking to the ordered temp. read more
