We went to Mac's this evening to celebrate our anniversary. What a disappointment. It started at the entrance with the greeter failing to acknowledge our presence or even say hello. All she did was grab two menus and say in our general direction "follow me." She didn't engage in any small talk, just put the menus on a table right next to the bar (she didn't ask us where we would like to sit, although there were plenty of empty tables) pointed at the table and walked away. Our server was barely more personable, acted like she would rather be anywhere doing anything than at Mac's serving us dinner. The food was also mediocre, certainly didn't taste as if it had been prepared by a real chef. I ordered the shrimp and lobster fettuccine. The sauce was thin and bland. My husband's entre was better, but in his opinion not outstanding. While we were eating dinner the bored wait staff( most of whom seemed to be very young) were plying some kind of game and running around in the restaurant. No adult seemed to be in charge. While we were eating across from a tv tuned to a rodeo , I noticed that the place also wasn't very clean. In sum, given that that the tab with tip was $100 +, not a good value, and certainly not the kind of anniversary dinner we had in mind. We won't be going back any time soon, which is a shame because Mac's used to be a reliably good, and sometimes, even excellent, restaurant. read more

Arrived for lunch to meet my MI friend, I'm from New Orleans, LA. I started lunch with a spicy Bloody Mary, it did not disappoint: sausage and blue cheese stuffed olive was a different but nice addition. I ordered the appetizer crab cake. Good portion with the arugula garnish, perfect bite with crab cake, greens and mustard sauce. My friend had her regular order of fish and chips and was happy. Waitress was attentive and very nice. Came in during Labor Day weekend for a quick bite and ate off their brunch menu. The food was 10/10 and the waitress was very nice! She was very attentive to our table and came back to ask if how everything was and refilled our water without us asking. Our experience here was mediocre. Wanting to try something new for a recent weekend dinner, we found Mac's Acadian Seafood not too far away. We arrived on the earlier side of the dinner rush and were able to be seated immediately. The only weird moment was when we asked about outdoor seating and pointed to a shaded patio (which was empty) and they asked if we wanted to sit instead next to the street in full sun. We declined and decided to sit inside. Menus are electronic, which were a little clunky to navigate. We finally decided on our food and placed our orders. We started with the ahi tuna appetizer, and this was probably the highlight of the meal. Tender slides of ahi tuna with a sesame seed crust and encircled by a savory sauce and a wasabi sauce. Entrees were where things went flat. My husband got the swordfish and said it was overcooked and dry. I got the scallops, and while the flavor of the dish was really good, the serving was disappointing, with only 4 small scallops of about 1.5 in diameter. For the price, there are better options in the area. We will probably try somewhere else for our next treat night out. read more

Excellent service with decent atmosphere. The scallops were cooked well: the cheesy ricotta it came with was fine and gave a nice look to the dish. There was a choice of four non-alcoholic cocktails. I tried the cherry whiskey concoction which seemed to be having a quiet identity crisis. Bread was very hot and fresh from the oven allowing the generous chilled butter slab to quickly melt. Was in the area and stopped by to grab dinner. It took awhile to get menus and once we did, I was surprised to see that they were in tablet form. The cool thing about these tablets is that you can click on the various menu items to see a photo of what they look like, and also view options of alcoholic beverages that would pair well with the meal. Everything I ate was delicious. The bread is absolutely amazing and the coleslaw that came with my meal was creamy. I ordered the shrimp and lobster fettuccine for my entree. There is asparagus in it and it is served with a side of parmesan cheese. I thought there were good portions of seafood in it and I would order this dish again. Nice spot for lunch! Ambiance is nicer, but still an approachable feel. Menus are on tablets with pictures accompanying most items, which is helpful! Yummy fresh bread right out of the oven and butter was served complimentary. I got the Shrimp Po Boy (comes with side of fries and cole slaw) which was tasty. The shrimp was good, but not a lot of it. Fries and cole slaw were just right. Husband got Fish and Chips, also tasty but a smaller portion. Side of Maritime Seafood Chowder was a good cup of soup. It was very easy to make a reservation for Saturday night which was refreshing. We were greeted warmly and sat right away. Our waitress was attentive and took our drink and appetizer order right away. The restaurant was quiet and not very busy for a Saturday night. But it was a nice calming atmosphere with Norah Jones playing They had options for our kids which is essential for us so that we don't hear complaints. I had the oysters and they were so fresh and tasty! We got the gumbo Yaya as an appetizer, and it was magnificent. It was so flavorful and comforting perfect for a cold night. I recommend getting the rolls they're buttery and garlicky and delicious ours didn't last long on the table. I ordered the lobster and shrimp fettuccine. I thought it was OK. It was very creamy, but I found the cream sauce to be a little sweeter than I like. However, the lobster and the shrimp in it were delicious. I just had to add salt and pepper before I could eat it. The shrimp and chicken étouffée was savory and my husband seemed to enjoy it. Made a reservation for a Saturday evening. My friend dropped me off at what I thought was the front door but surprise the entrance is on the side. When you enter the building on the side you'll notice that there are tables outside with heaters. Looks like an awesome place to sit in the summer. We were seated at a booth and our waiter brought water and menus. The menus are an iPad that was easy to navigate. This is a deceptively large restaurant. It was not overly noisy and the booth was comfortable We ordered the white fish appetizer. It was very flavorful and was served with some flat bread type crackers. There are multiple seafood options to choose from I had the scallops, one friend had the jambalaya and another had the walleye. All were very tasty. I would go back there again. read more

We went on a Saturday afternoon. Multiple employees walked by us while we waited at the front desk to be sat without saying anything to us. Tim took a call before seating us, despite us being there prior to the call coming in. Tim then escorted us to our table, but took us up stairs despite there being a ramp further down in the restaurant and us having a stroller. He was two rooms away before we could catch up to him. We had requested a booth, but he tried to seat us at a half booth, then when we pointed out the open booth that would fit us all, he argued about the stroller being in the way- there was no fire hazard or inconvenience as each row of tables/booths have multiple pathways to approach and our stroller folds down. He hovered over us while I folded down our stroller and sat it in the booth- I suppose to confirm we weren't going to leave it out in the aisle? It felt awkward and unwelcome. Our server, Sam, didn't know the menu and when we asked about dishes, told us she didn't know as she had not tried them. The calamari was mostly breading that fell off and the poutine was watery, we ended up leaving the poutine and just ordering a side of fries. We order appetizers first to see if we want to proceed with entrees and ended up so dismayed by the service and apps, we decided to not order additional food. We weren't impressed with the service or food. I'm really disappointed, I would love to have found a good seafood restaurant for weekend afternoons but this will not be the place. read more

This was the second time I have visited this restaurant. They do not disappoint. Krystal was very attentive to our needs. Seeing that we had three children with us, she came to greet us and had waters for all five of us, including three kids cups. The bread here is to die for. The softness and just the right amount of seasoning. I ordered the shrimp/lobster fetachini. It was $36 but with every dollar. It appeared as though they had cut up an entire lobster and I had 5 nice size shrimp. There was so much food, I had lunch for the next day as well. Not really impressed! The brussel sprouts were pretty much the only good thing. I ordered the fall salad and added salmon, they over cooked the salmon, like shelling out the inside. The kale was diced so small that trying to pick it up with the fork was a challenge. My father and grandmother ordered the jambalaya. They stated it was good, not too salty. The service was so so. I was taken to this place for my birthday by my friend. I had seen this s one of the seafood spots in the area and I had never been here. My friend remembered that I was interested. The place sits off of Michigan avenue among a row of other stores and restaurants in the downtown area. There is parking on the streets(If you can find one) and a parking lot in the back. I entered the restaurant for and was quickly seated due to my friend having already arrived. I ordered a dirty martini as the recommended drink and I LOVE a good dirty. We were given bread and butter and the bread was delicious. I had to make sure I did not get to full before the main course. I decided to order a Seafood Gumbo as an appetizer. The soup was ok. It had a tomato base and shrimp in the mix. My entree was trout. They had a broiled trout with lemon sauce but I decided to have mine blackened. I also ordered a side of crab cakes which I had to try. The trout was excellent. It was blackened with a seasoning just right. The crab cakes were also good. One staff member was curious of the fact that I got the blackened. I told him that I was glad I did and that it was really tasty. The staff were attentive and great. Went here for the first time with my friends two days ago. Finding the entrance was so confusing!! You would assume it's on the front of the building facing the street... but it is around the back of the building. Definitely needs to have better signs for that in my opinion. Service was slow. Drinks were empty for the majority of the time we were at the table. Waitresses didn't check on us at all until it was time to bring the food out - the place wasn't busy so I don't see why they weren't attentive. My friend ordered a Manhattan and it came with HALF a cherry! Just that alone just felt so cheap. Food was average. Service below average. Which is too bad!! Portions are hilariously small for many items and food quality is not remotely acceptable for the price. I'm surprised I haven't been here yet. I came with my mother over break, and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was very chill; the inside had a unique layout and gave off a cozy feeling. Service was decent: our waiter was a little slow to help us, but we had also shown up during happy hour, which seemed to be overwhelming him a bit. I ordered fish and chips, which came out a little doughy but still delightful. The fries and the coleslaw tied the meal together nicely. Service has really gone down and the place looks a disaster. Is something going on? Went yesterday and it just did not look as clean as usual. The carpet was super sticky that our shoes were making squeaking sounds on the floor and sticking every step, the food wasn't as good as usual and the portions are just super small for the price. I mean, I know that's typical for that place, but they look to have scaled down a lot. My dad usually gets the oysters and they're usually plump and large and these were scant little things. He also got the lobster roll and fries which she said was pretty good but for the price he said it was pretty small. I had the peel and eat shrimp and they were overcooked, not juicy and very dry. Total fail. The calamari was decent, but it had no flavor in the breading also a fail. The only thing I really liked and it was the first time I ever had. It was the gazpacho. We are frequent flyers, but if something has changed, then I don't know if we will return. read more

After many very good visits here the last one was terrible. Got seated next to a busy service area. That's OK someone has to sit there and it was our turn. No problem, Our dinner which was a salad with grilled chicken and a Shrimp Poboy took over an hour to get no one ever came by and said they were running late because their fryer was broken or I would have changed my order to something grilled. I finally flagged down the manager and asked him when we would get our food and he did offer to give us a free dessert but we Probably won't be back. read more

My Father-in-Law wanted to take me to Mac's for my birthday yesterday. I've had Mac's before, and it was pretty good (~4 years ago) then, so I readily agreed. This two-star rating is given thusly: one star for the service, and one star for the food. Both were sub-par for a Shack that was mostly empty on a Tuesday evening. The hostess greeted our party of 4 at the door 7:15pm, and took us to a nice seat with a window looking out over Michigan Avenue. The menu provided is on a iPad-type device, and was pretty straightforward to navigate. About 5 minutes later, our waitress stopped by our table: "Do you have any questions about the menu? No? Okay, I'll be back in a moment to take your order." ...and nearly sprints away from the table. "Wait! Can I order a drink?" No... She didn't hear me. She was almost 20 feet away by then. Keep in mind that we're one of 2 or 3 tables occupied in the entire restaurant, and she's _not_ the only server in the place. There's a manager wandering around outside talking to the cooks, and there's a hostess and bartender in the place, so the issue isn't 'inadequate staff'. Anyway... 5 minutes later, she comes back to our table. "What can I get you?" We proceed to order cocktails and dinner. I ordered one of the house specials, the Alaskan Halibut. About 20 minutes later, when dinner arrived, I had several fillets of an unseasoned white fish sitting on some rice pilaf and corn relish. I managed to ask our waitress for salt and pepper, just before she left the dining room. "Yes! I'll bring them back right away!" 5 minutes later, I'm standing in front of the server's area looking for salt and pepper. The service area is pretty clean and well organized. There's evidence that they have a system for disinfecting customer service areas, too. I took a salt and pepper shaker, and returned to my table. The fish was overdone and as I said above, lacked any seasoning. The halibut was _not_ good enough for Jehovah. 10 minutes later, she finally stopped back by our table... ...to ask if we wanted our check. I'm kinda starting to feel unwelcome at this point; but my Father-in-Law asks about Mac's birthday discount. Our server says, "Sure! You can have a free desert!" and looks at me with a genuine smile on her face. Nice. I decided to take a long pause here, to break the mood. I'm smiling back, politely nodding for about 10 seconds, when I finally say, "I like desert. What _kind_ of desert do you have?" To her credit, she had this list of available confectionaries memorized pretty well, and rattled it off in about 15 seconds. I heard 'bread pudding' in there somewhere, and asked, "bread pudding?" to confirm that was an actual choice. "Great! I'll get you that right away!" she said. 10 minutes later, she brings the desert and the bill; apparently we're leaving soon. I was served a nasty, congealed cone of warm bread snot with an ample serving of vanilla ice cream on the side. Both were covered in what I'm going to guess is rhubarb sauce, which might explain the thready, celery-like texture that the bread pudding had. My brother-in-law asked how it was; I told him it was worth every cent that his Dad had paid for it. If I were the owner, I'd be livid that a customer was treated this poorly. read more

The blue cheese and cranberries is a delicious combination. Both me and my son chose the lobster and shrimp fetuccini which was absolutely amazing. The portion size is large and I ate it for 2 meals. Be sure to save room for dessert as Zingermans specialities are on the menu. I really wanted the brownie sundae but they were out of brownies that day. After my last couple attempts to go to the Clinton Inn, I figured that my b-day dinner needed a little change of venue. However, I didn't want to drive very far, so Mac's was it. Oh how glad we were about that decision! We got there, and as I was looking over the menu, noticed that your b-day dinner is FREE! I'm talkin' free (w/ the purchase of another equal value meal)! On top of that, I got a nice little scoop of ice cream for free too. It has to be the day of your birthday, but I just can't get over what a good deal that was. I was also very happy that they carry a nice New Zealand Sauv. Blanc. I actually just bought the same bottle for home use, and there it was on the menu. Thanks x3 (free meal, dessert, good wine). We had the following: 1. Lobster ravioli - very lobster-filled. Sauce was cream-based, but actually kinda light, which was nice as it didn't take away from the lobster. 2. Salmon - the fish was cooked TO PERFECTION! 3. Jambalaya - a little too heavy on the chicken (I would have liked to see the "nicer" shrimp, more of said shrimp, and less of the chicken) The house salad, as always, was perfect. I remember when Mac's went in when I was in high school and thinking how fancy it was for downtown Saline. Now, as an adult (prior to the pandemic), I loved hanging at the bar or sitting outside, especially during happy hour. The food is consistently good. The servers are friendly and always remember my parents. Their pre-pandemic happy hour was such a great deal. I loved grabbing a house red and some shrimp cocktail, both discounted and then some mussels, which were complimentary. Only the third door came across showed an arrow and said the entrance was in the promenade behind the building! Little frustrating and the host was a jerk about it but whatever. We choose Mac's for location and seafood fare. Super bonus for stopping in a Tuesday night to find 1/2 bottles of wine! Great drink, wine and beer selection. We ordered a bottle of Oyster Bay NZ Sauv Blanc. Food prices were reasonable. You don't want cheap when considering seafood. We ordered a cheese board to start. It was a nice presentation but fell short with some sort of american cheese food slices, half a strawberry and two slices of green apple - along with Dill Havarti, Gouda and herbed spread. Great crackers though. Waitress was knowledgeable and made a great suggestion with the shrimp and grits appetizer with sausage. It was great! I am not a huge grits fan, but this dish was perfect. Right amount of spice, grits weren't overpowering the shrimp, sausage was flavor full and added a nice touch. Friend had crab cake dinner. She said it was good. Two large cakes with rice. Swapped slaw for veggies. Small arugula salad on the plate too. I have eaten at Macs several times by myself or with out-of-town guests. I dine here with confidence even with clients who are looking for an upscale meal. I know they will always get a good meal here. Mac's is a great upscale alternative to the trendy, over-priced, hipster douchebag-infested downtown Ann Arbor restaurants (yes, there is actually free parking available!). [This is even more important as the Ann Arbor DDA decided to raise the parking rates AGAIN (licensed thievery!) in 2017.] The menu is diverse and Mac's does a nice job with what they do offer. They smartly avoid a menu filled with 20 pages of "nothing-to-eat" that tastes like animal feed. (I had a less-than-optimal experience recently in Fort Lauderdale (Douchebagville, USA, on the coast) I often forget to check-in on Yelp because I am hangry and am eagerly anticipating my food! During summer, the gazpacho cold soup is a must-have. The kitchen will gladly add several cold shrimp for a deluxe starter. I like the scallops and shrimp fettuccine. You get a good helping of seafood and always ask for "light on the cream sauce" unless you like your food napalmed with thick congealed cream sauce. No thanks. Calling all alcoholics or wannabes: Macs features an excellent full bar. If they cannot make your favorite drink, you want something too weird... The broiled or grilled cajun fresh fish is always a smart move and I like the fact that Macs does not overseason their fish. The cajun salmon is particularly recommended. They do not cook it so much that it tastes like moldy drywall from The Great Recession. My salmon has always been consistently juicy and succulent. I also really enjoy Mac's delicious crabcakes. Unlike some poser places, there is far more crab meat than filler. The service has been consistently strong. The servers are well-informed on the menu and are eager to make inspired suggestions. The secret for not having my order messed up is to speak clearly and slightly slowly when ordering. Not so slow that the server does not think that you think they are retarded or from out-of-town and do not understand English. No fried squid, thank you... I always enjoy Macs's warm bread and soft chunk of butter. Fresh! Pro tip: Happy hour starts at 4:30 pm., folks. Be sure to try a plate of raw oysters. Outdoor seating available in the back patio if you enjoy outdoor drinking/dining. OMG! How do you get into this place? If you park on Michigan Avenue or in a city lot across the street, YOU ARE SCREWED if you try to enter through the door facing Michigan Avenue. Go to the BACK (there's another city lot out in back). Walk the Bataan death march down the side and around to the back of the restaurant. All other doors are locked/not used. Infuriating! Your reward for making the trek in is a cold drink from the bar or great seafood! Enjoy downtown Ann Arbor quality upscale seafood at reasonable prices. (Not Manhattan nor San Francisco...) Love that they use sustainable "to go" packaging and usually do not give you a straw unless asked. My type of locally owned establishment
