They separated us into two tables which was a little disappointing at first but we got a little corner to ourselves which actually ended up being very nice. So definitely recommend for the vibes. Don't let the fact that's it's very likely not walkable deter you. The Hutton is just a short drive or quick Uber away, and has fantastic food in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. I was sold when their beer list had only 3 mainstream beers, with the rest being local selections, including one from Departed Soles. Not in the mood for beer? No problem. There are a number of specialty craft cocktails to choose from. I'm a big fan of the Maple Bourbon Sour - so good it's almost too easy to drink. So, you're here. Where to sit? The inside isn't gigantic, but the real party is out on the larger outdoor space. Yes, I know it's winter, but in the times of COVID...you make the best of it. Each time we've been there we were able to secure two heaters for our table, so despite the season we were actually quite comfortable. I can't wait to sit out here when spring finally comes back. Dinner and brunch have both been excellent. Dinner favs include the meatball and buffalo cauliflower apps, and the skirt steak and fish and chips. If I had to pick a favorite...fish and chips, hands down. Insane. Oh - and the lemon fries. I don't care what you get for dinner, and even if it comes with fries...get the lemon fries. You will not regret this. Brunch? Well, my recommendation of the Maple Bourbon Sour stands, and I would highly, highly recommend the Bourbon Caramel French Toast. How does it get so fluffy? The Hutton was a clutch find during COVID wintertime - they did a superb job with the back patio which was always warm and cozy. Pretty impressive they built it around a massive beautiful tree too which adds to the ambiance. Cocktails are awesome (my go-to is Rosemary's Baby) and they have a decent selection canned/bottled brews and I feel like the beers on tap are always a different mix. Went here tonight for some apps and drinks with a group of 5. The place was nice and the outdoorish seating had plenty of heaters going that I didn't need to wear my coat. We got the pork buns, oysters, onion rings and the guac. The oysters were weird and overall just not my jam (oysters should be served raw imho) everything else though was pretty tasty. The drinks were a mixed bag. I got the Rosemary's baby which was completely unbalance and too boozy. I asked for some simple syrup to be added and it made it so much better hit I didn't get any rosemary notes. I had a sip of the maple bourbon, which also lacked sweetness and was too booze forward. The peter piper was a well balanced drink but I think this drink could have benefited from a different agave based liqour (Derrumbes San Luis Mezcal) which would add depth to the cocktail (cocktail snobbery yeah I know). The Hutton's big feature is its outdoor heated patio: It's covered with heaters strewn throughout the rafters, allowing you a peaceful ambiance to enjoy your meal with as the rain pitter patters above you. I'll take one star away from them on this review, so let's get it out the way: There are too many TVs on the patio. I was continually distracted by the Devils game on TV, with the brightness of the LEDs cranked all the way up. The Hutton does not strike me as a sports bar, and the TVs take away from the finer dining experience offered. Lose the TV's... Install a large screen + projector instead and lower it for specialty events if you have to. Onto the review... The food is excellent: My eyes IMMEDIATELY drifted onto the slow roasted chicken and the fish and chips entrees. My wife instantly honed in on the plantain chips and apple guacamole: A delightfully refreshing twist on chips + guac for fall. It's salty and sweet, creamy and tart in the just right way apples can be. Plantain chips are soooo good too. As it turns out, she ordered the slow roasted chicken - after MUCH hesitation over the menu. As I said earlier... can't wait to go back. The dish was well prepared and presented. I put in for the fish and chips and yes I can confirm their excellence. Diners coming in from The Highlands will beg to differ, but this is a good approximation of the real thing. Long story short, my boyfriend and I were very delighted with our dinners, drinks, and service from the staff. It was pretty quiet on the Monday night that we went. I expected it to be much louder since we were seated near the bar and kitchen but it was very pleasant. My partner and I both had a rough month leading up to this so our night at The Hutton was so relaxing. It wasn't too loud where I couldn't hear my boyfriend across the table from me so that was a major plus. I don't remember too much (it was 2 months ago) but I had the honey ginger Cauliflower Wings as an appetizer and the Pan Roasted Salmon for my main course. Although I do not eat poultry, I was very impressed with the few options they had for pescatarian, vegetarian or vegan diets. I think my boyfriend had the onion rings and Skirt Steak. The Chicken Nan sandwich is unique and soo delicious, the chicken is cooked perfectly with a crispy outside and juicy inside. The Filet Mignon is unreal, best steak ever in my opinion, the outside is beautifully seared and then the whole piece just melts in your mouth, topped off with some delicious butter/sauce on the side (I'm actually not sure what it is, but it's really good). I got the wings the other night which were also amazing, with really great sauces, I picked 2 and had them on the side. We came to The Hutton for dinner on a Friday night shortly after moving to Jersey City. We requested a seat in the back patio. The wait staff was attentive and accommodating! We started out ordering the Apple Guacamole, mainly because I had never heard of that combination before and thought it might be fun to try! The apple did give a slight sweetness to the guacamole and it was enjoyable. For entrees, my husband and I went in very different directions from one another, I got the Fried Chicken Naan Sandwich and he got the Ricotta Gnocchi. The chicken sandwich came with a very hearty portion of chicken and was delicious and interesting. Such a nice spot! Found it on yelp the other night while waiting for our reservation somewhere else and decided to go here instead. So glad we changed plans because this was exactly what we were looking for! The place is super cozy and has a very chill atmosphere. They had the best live music performer and the staff was also great! We started out with Pork Buns, the Apple Guac with plantain chips, and the Lemon fries (which were a little salty but tasted amazing regardless...everything was soooo good! My experience at the Hutton was truly disappointing. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant but my expectations fell flat. A group of 9 of us came for a birthday celebration on a Saturday night. We were originally sat at a lovely table, plenty of room next to several heaters. After getting settled we were promptly moved because they needed the table for another group...sure no problem. We were then moved into a small booth, not enough room for 9 adults. We moved again to a table they set up in the corner of the restaurant. It was ABSOLUTELY FREEZING - zero heat and next to a door that kept letting freezing air in blowing on us. I couldn't even move my fingers and toes by the end of the meal. And spoiler alert, NOBODY was ever seated at our original comfortable table the entire night. Were they just trying to get rid of us?? While the flavor was there they were fatty and a bit soggy. Tried the onion rings as well. Although I love a beer batter onion ring, I thought the aioli and cheese on top were a bit over bearing. My soror and I met up for brunch at this spot. I made reservations for 1pm and when I arrived the parking was a little tough. I eventually found one and headed in. There was patio and indoor seating. We've been meaning to try this place for so long, and now we know we'll be coming back regularly! The outdoor (covered) dining patio was spacious and unique, and though there were several TVs around the area it didn't feel like we were in a sports bar and they mostly faded into the background. From their selection of beers and specialty cocktails, to the fried jerk calamari and strawberry arugula salad appetizers, to the fried chicken naan sandwich, impossible burger and donut and cake gelato pairings, everything was delicious. When we got in, Lex the assistant manager greeted us and she provided the most outstanding service I've had in a long time. She even introduced us to a new shot of liquor. Always a good time coming here. We always get their mussels but we decided to have fried food! I didn't enjoy their drinks though but for what it's worth I did pay for the alcohol. Their iced tea was a bit overly sweet for me. The fried chicken was meaty! I requested syrup on the side for the fried chicken and attacked that meal! The fish and chips was good too but didn't finish it. I was freaking stuffed. I insisted on dessert coz why not? I posted a picture of how small the cup of soda was for $4 and the manager calls me saying the cup fires 8oz which is a standard soda can. She kept asking if she wanted them to send me a new soda or if there was anything else she could do, and at the point, there really wasn't. I explained understanding that business need to make a profit, however the profit margin was too high, charging $4 for something that costs them less than $1. She said she would forward my suggestion to the owner. From the outside, The Hutton looks like your regular neighborhood pub. When you walk inside, you get a similar impression, with the bar up front and the exposed brick wall. The patio's ceiling is essentially a giant skylight, and is ideal for allowing natural light into the restaurant, as well as providing shelter from the rain. The interior, plus the diverse menu, makes The Hutton a great choice for brunch. I ordered the Grain Bowl, which is vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free. It was a nice balance of healthy and flavorful, with a quinoa base, crisp tofu, chickpeas, and a blend of vegetables, including sweet potato, eggplant, grape tomatoes, red onion, and cucumber. The (vegan) green goddess dressing was tangy and paired well with the vegetables. I am kicking myself for not trying The Hutton sooner. We went for brunch on a rainy Sunday and the entire experience was amazing. We sat indoors. There were plexiglass dividers between tables, and the servers used hand sanitizer between each interaction. We felt completely safe sitting indoors. For cocktails we went with the northern heights and the stormy mojito. Both were light and refreshing. The northern heights is everything I love in a cocktail. Vodka, st germain and berries. It's refreshing and not to sweet. I love a berry cocktail that is fresh and doesn't have that fake medicinal taste. The stormy mojito was also delightful. For entrees we went with the grilled cheese of the day (with onions and tomato), the bourbon caramel French toast and a side of the smoked bacon. I don't have enough words to explain how delicious everything was. The French toast came with a coffee ice cream and is arguably one the best French toast dishes we've ever tried. The smoked bacon was perfectly smoked and had the perfect amount of crisp. The grilled cheese and fries also had amazing flavor. The portions were a great size and a decent price. Everything about the Hutton is excellent. They have an extensive cocktail list and their bartenders really know how to pair flavor combinations. Their food is delicious - my favorite item on their menu is the Hutton burger. The meat is a little lighter, not packed as densely as burgers usually are and it's topped with delightful bacon jam. The wings are very good too- a bit unusual for buffalo wings, less saucy with more of a spice rub. They had almost a South Asian flavor-- again not traditional buffalo wings but great and the quality of the chicken was excellent. Their staff members are really terrific too, this is a great place overall. They have also adapted cleverly for outdoor seating. They always had a patio but added a roof that allows outside air to circulate, heaters and barriers for each table. Wonderful place!! read more

Looking for a last minute brunch resy on Easter on the early side, and most of the highly recommended places were booked. I try to avoid these bot generated Yelp best of lists, but I was desperate. Yelp's #1 brunch place in Jersey City was The Hutton. 4.5 stars is pretty good, and the pics looked passable so gave it a go. Lo and behold, at 9am Easter morning they had every single time slot still available. Hmmm. Something is off here. But like I said, I was desperate. It's basically just a bar. Dining tables are hi-tops. Service wasn't horrible, but it definitely wasn't good. We were the only table there but our waiter could not deliver on what we asked for, even when it was his suggestion. Apple guacamole. Not as horrid as it sounds, it was actually pretty good. The problem was the accompanying plantain chips, which were burnt to a crisp and just tasted like ash. They were borderline black, any fool could see they were burnt so it was really embarrassing (and telling) that someone would serve these. Hangover sandwich - A bit awkward looking, as the sausage are whole round sausage in a sandwich laid side by side. Flavors were good, but if you get this order an extra egg inside. Tastes were a little unbalanced and the egg definitely gets lost. Fried Chicken sandwich on Naan. This is their big seller. Meh. The naan was pretty good, but the sandwich seemed pretty bare flavor wise, and this only put more of a spotlight on the dry-as-a-bone chicken. Fries were a mixed bag, literally. About 25% of them were reasonably crispy, the rest were brown and soggy with no crisp. Oh, and there is absolutely no parking anywhere near there. It's street parking on one of those packed residential streets where if you're lucky enough to get a spot it warrants a happy dance. They have an outside which I didn't see, but guessing if you're looking for a place for a boozy brunch in the nice weather and don't care too much about the food this Irish bar would be a solid choice. read more
