Everything about the Hutton is excellent. They have an extensive cocktail list and their bartenders really know how to pair flavor combinations. Their food is delicious - my favorite item on their menu is the Hutton burger. The meat is a little lighter, not packed as densely as burgers usually are and it's topped with delightful bacon jam. The wings are very good too- a bit unusual for buffalo wings, less saucy with more of a spice rub. They had almost a South Asian flavor-- again not traditional buffalo wings but great and the quality of the chicken was excellent. Their staff members are really terrific too, this is a great place overall. They have also adapted cleverly for outdoor seating. They always had a patio but added a roof that allows outside air to circulate, heaters and barriers for each table. Wonderful place!! read more

Came here tonight on this freezing Saturday night. Wanted to get out of the house after a day of chores so I figured I'd walk over this way, grab a bite, some drinks and the Knicks on the big screen. While my Knicks are killing it, I've gotta say, I wasn't so impressed with the bites. Got some Honey Ginger Wings and I'm a bit picky when it comes to a good wing. I like them crispy and flavorful. While the flavor was there they were fatty and a bit soggy. Tried the onion rings as well. Although I love a beer batter onion ring, I thought the aioli and cheese on top were a bit over bearing. Drinks were good if you're getting a draft or a well drink. I wasn't a huge fan of the craft cocktail I got which was the Fig on the Hudson. Too sweet for my taste but I'm sure there's a customer for it. Great ambience and service which was awesome. Overall: Try it once but for the price and quality of food, it's a worse version of Kitchen Step, Matthews, Lathem house, and Amelia's Bistro...plus you most likely have to drive here. If you do come, get the cauliflower wings and the apple cider cake. Location: Plenty of tables both outside and inside. We were able to easily get a table on a nice Saturday at 6:30 for 4 without a reservation. It's in a very residential neighborhood, so eating on the sidewalks seems a little weird, but it was fine (there is also a much nicer backyard - so you should ask to be seated there if possible!). Service: The waitress was super attentive and able to help us decide what to order. While the appetizer was quick, it did take a little over 30 min after ordering for mains to come out. Food: We ordered one app to share for the table and a main per person. Cauliflower wings in honey ginger sauce: It comes with 4 large pieces so easy to share with the table. Super flavorful, the ginger wasn't too strong. Honestly, my husband hates cauliflower, and he was going back for seconds. Fried chicken naan sandwich: For $22, it needed to be a great sandwich and it was just fine. Nothing was wrong with the cooking or ingredients but the sauce was a little dull. Also super messy to eat (but not their fault). Ricotta gnocchi: Save $3 and get this from Amelia's Bistro. Gnocchi was cooked well and sauce was good, Amelia's is also better. P.E.I Mussels and Fries: Plenty of muscles and nice tomato sauce, but there probably should be something else on this plate to make it complete other than the side of fries. Warm apple cider cake with graham cracker gelato: This stole the show. Only come for the cauliflower and the dessert. Large chunks of apple, super fluffy, tons of caramel. This little neighborhood pub was a wonderful find during COVID! We wanted to have a nice intimate date night dinner somewhere different from our usual haunts in the Harsimus Cove-Van Vorst neighborhoods. To have the outdoor option with gas heat lamps - 1 per table - was also a plus and added to the coziness. We started off with cocktails - I loved my Snow and Pine with its herbal clove notes and we also enjoyed the Maple Bourbon Sour which was equally smooth and warming. Next we tried the Cauliflower Wings with Ginger Honey glaze - so intensely delicious. The Fried Chicken Naan sandwich was not only huge it was finger licking good! And as if we could fit even more - we ordered the Apple Caramel Cake with Graham Cracker gelato. It was oh so decadent and the gelato was a creamy cinnamon delight. Obviously the food was a winner but the server added to the lovely experience we had. He was pleasant, friendly and helped us with our choices and all our choices were served quickly. Absolutely delicious food. Really well prepared. Brisket and Gnocci was such good comfort food The burger with the bacon jam was sublime!! So flavorful! Brussel sprouts had a kick to it and I like how they sliced the sprouts up thinly, added more crunch! Took the homemade pasta with chicken bouloguese home for lunch the next day. SO GOOD! Looking for a last minute brunch resy on Easter on the early side, and most of the highly recommended places were booked. I try to avoid these bot generated Yelp best of lists, but I was desperate. Yelp's #1 brunch place in Jersey City was The Hutton. 4.5 stars is pretty good, and the pics looked passable so gave it a go. Lo and behold, at 9am Easter morning they had every single time slot still available. Hmmm. Something is off here. But like I said, I was desperate. It's basically just a bar. Dining tables are hi-tops. Service wasn't horrible, but it definitely wasn't good. We were the only table there but our waiter could not deliver on what we asked for, even when it was his suggestion. Apple guacamole. Not as horrid as it sounds, it was actually pretty good. The problem was the accompanying plantain chips, which were burnt to a crisp and just tasted like ash. They were borderline black, any fool could see they were burnt so it was really embarrassing (and telling) that someone would serve these. Hangover sandwich - A bit awkward looking, as the sausage are whole round sausage in a sandwich laid side by side. Flavors were good, but if you get this order an extra egg inside. Tastes were a little unbalanced and the egg definitely gets lost. Fried Chicken sandwich on Naan. This is their big seller. Meh. The naan was pretty good, but the sandwich seemed pretty bare flavor wise, and this only put more of a spotlight on the dry-as-a-bone chicken. Fries were a mixed bag, literally. About 25% of them were reasonably crispy, the rest were brown and soggy with no crisp. Oh, and there is absolutely no parking anywhere near there. It's street parking on one of those packed residential streets where if you're lucky enough to get a spot it warrants a happy dance. They have an outside which I didn't see, but guessing if you're looking for a place for a boozy brunch in the nice weather and don't care too much about the food this Irish bar would be a solid choice. read more

You can tell that The Hutton is the type of place where you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. And judging by their near perfect rating it seems as if most others feel the same way. Best part about this spot is their huge outdoor patio. We made a day of reservation for prime brunch time on a Sunday and had no issues snagging a table for six. The patio has a ton of TVs (great for football Sunday outside) and a stage where they often feature live music. This is easily one of the biggest outdoor restaurant spaces that I've seen in JC and I'm here for it. On to the most important part of my experience - the eats. I kept things classic and simple and ordered eggs and bacon. Lame, I know. But honestly both of these things were really delicious. The bacon was perfectly crispy and had a hickory flavor, and the 'side' of eggs was a large bowl. Even the ketchup was delicious - definitely not Heinz and tasted gourmet. Other eats at the table included the poached eggs (snuck a bite and that green goddess sauce is the truth), avo toast, hangover sandwich, steak and eggs and a cinnamon roll. Everything came with a large portion and was beautifully presented. No one had a negative thing to say about any of the food. The Hutton is an absolute gem of a restaurant. The staff was extremely attentive and so friendly. 1000% recommend the cauliflower wings, skirt steak, bolognese, and salmon. Visited the Hutton this past Friday; I had been following them for a while on IG and wanting to visit. They take reservations on Open Table and we made one for outdoors at 7:30 pm. I was expecting it to be crowded since it was a very nice Friday night but it was pretty quiet. The outdoor patio space is really nice - their covered back patio is built around a gigantic oak tree and it had a very nice ambiance - several long tables, smaller tables and a few large wooden booths which would be good for large parties. There are TVs if you are trying to watch sports. One thing to note - the ground outside is pretty uneven so at some of the tables you are sitting on a slant. We were allowed to pick where we wanted to sit - we first chose a table for 4 but switched to the large booth since the table was uneven and it was empty. Our server was very friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We started with pork buns - they come two to an order and the piece of pork was huge (makes up for the $18 price tag). They were very tasty. For our means, I got the Fried Chicken Naan Sandwich and my boyfriend got their Jerk Mushroom Burger special, each with fries. The chicken sandwich was very tasty - the piece of chicken was very big so it's hard to eat it like a true sandwich without making a mess. I used a fork & knife for it. My boyfriends burger was a good size (he got the mushrooms on the side). The portions were large and we left with a full Tupperware of fries which we reheated in the air fryer the next day and enjoyed. For drinks, we had the jersey city donkey and the Monet. Both drinks were good. We'd both like to come back - the outdoor patio is a good spot for a group to dine. Their costs are on the higher end but what isn't these days. After searching for new restaurant to try, this restaurant popped up. After reading the reviews on Google and Yelp and looking at the pictures I decided to go. This local neighborhood bar and grill is intimate and provides a cozy at home feeling. The customer service from the wait staff was very good. I truly enjoyed my drinks. They were mixed well and had just the right alcohol strength. The food is just ok. We had the honey garlic wings and onion rings. It was just ok. No wow factor. However the burgers are the BOMB!! That charcoal grill flavor cooked to the right temperature was awesome. I thought the price of the final bill wasn't worth the overall experience. It wasn't expensive per say but I left looking for more. Needless to say you should to go support and judge for yourself. My overall rating is 3.5 stars read more

Went to the Hutton on a whim Sat. around 5. We were immediately greeted and seated. The vibe was super inviting, the staff were very friendly! We sat in the back in large, covered patio area. They had great heaters that kept the area warm; and we didnt have to wait long for service. There's a huge live, tree with lights, which is a nice, odd touch. I ordered a burger and lemon fries. Took our girls (8yo and 6yo) here for an early dinner on a Saturday night, and it was so good. I'm always afraid of the "kid friendly" level of places, but this place was so accommodating and kind. It's a bar yes, but the vibe (at least before 8-9pm) was super chill and relaxing. Not at all a rowdy, loud bar for kids. (Can't speak for later at night of course ;) Our waiter especially was super nice, answering all of our questions and talking to the girls. Drinks were STRONG and great, interesting combos. We ordered delivery from the Hutton for the Hutton burger w/fries and the Brussels sprouts. $18 for the burger meal was a bit high and the Brussels sprouts $11 was WAY too high. They were more of a side dish size portion and it was like a slaw. The pomegranate didn't seem to fit the dish. It was just another crunch and the flavors were an odd combo. The bacon was very scarce. Very strange. We didn't like them. I don't recommend them. So disappointed! The Hutton burger was actually delicious and a great size. It was cooked perfect. The flavor reminded us of waffles lol. No maple obviously. But the burger had a delicious char on it and great flavor. The fries we asked for them to be extra crispy crunchy and they were not. The ketchup sent with them may have had sriracha in it? Our food arrived cold to Luke warm and seemed to have sat for a while (water beaded containers). We had to reheat it all. Although the burger was great, it was not worth $18. We won't be reordering from here. Maybe we will go when they reopen for seating, but not delivery. read more

Might be one of my new favorite causal spots. Food and drinks here are so delicious and the laid back vibe is awesome. I went with friends and split some apps and a main. For apps we for the lemon fries, these were delicious but actually tasted more cheesy then lemony. The onion rings which are a MUST order. The pretzel bites which were solid. The GH chicken wings were good but I would probably get the regular flavor next time since they were very sweet. And then for mains we shared the strip steak which was cooked perfectly and super flavorful. For dessert we had donuts which were pretty good as well. read more

I had been wanting to try The Hutton for quite some time, so I was delighted when my boyfriend surprised me with a birthday dinner at the restaurant. We checked in with the host/manager, who walked us over to the worst possible table, which was essentially next to the bar's service area. I was not able to even push my chair back, because there was a staff member kneeling on the ground behind me, racking cups on some low shelves. It was a very awkward spot, so we asked if we could be moved. Thankfully, they were able to transition us to one of the high-top tables near the window, which provided much more space. Once we were settled, we had the pleasure of interacting with our lovely server, Alecea, who was sweet and helpful. We started by ordering some custom cocktails. I opted for the Fresh to Death, which included Prairie Cucumber Vodka, St. Germain, fresh lime, mint, and muddled cucumber; the drink was crisp, refreshing, and packed with cucumber flavor. It was really like a boozy version of a beverage you would get at a spa. My only complaint was that there was too much ice in the small glass. My boyfriend's Stormy Mojito was an interesting blend of the two classic cocktails, which he very much enjoyed. I found the mixture of Bacardi Limon and lime juice sort of reminiscent of household cleaner, though. When it came to the food, all of the options were similarly funky, mixing ingredients that I would not typically believe would pair together. However, that concept matched the vibe of the restaurant, which was like a cozy, relaxed pub that also had a modern, hipster-ish flare. We started by sharing the Hutton Pork Buns, which we had envisioned as including shredded pork, but actually utilized pork belly. While we loved the moist bun, miso marinade, and sweet banana pepper topping, we found the pork belly way too fatty. Do not get me wrong, even the fat was flavorful, but no one wants to eat a block of fat. I proceeded with the Pan-Roasted Salmon as my entrée, and I had requested that it be prepared to a medium temperature. When the salmon arrived, it had a dull color and dry complexion, making it appear extremely overcooked. However, when I cut into the filet, it was almost rare inside. The fish basically seemed seared, rather than roasted. It tasted ok, but it was definitely not prepared to my liking or requested preference. Despite this odd cook, I simply loved the salmons accoutrements! There was curly kale that had been lightly cooked to maintain a crisp texture, a sweet potato puree that was buttery and smooth, as well as roasted grapes for yet a third texture and flavor profile. My boyfriend had selected The Hutton Burger, which was actually cooked to his liking, slathered with a decadent smoked bacon jam, and topped with zesty onions. He adored it and its accompanying French fries, which I actually found mushy and salty. In the end, I enjoyed the service, atmosphere, cocktails, and creative food concepts, but thought there could have been some improvement in the culinary execution. read more

I came here recently for a friend birthday brunch and everyone agreed that the Hutton was a great choice. There are plexiglass dividers between each booth or table. We were able to get the corner booth and they were so nice in letting us decorate the space with streamers and confetti. The servers were beyond nice. I think we all got some variation of the burger or the naan sandwich, all with lemon fries and delicious. I also had a couple of these amazing fig / vodka cocktails, which were so good that I had to pace myself. This was a very special afternoon for my group of friends and we enjoyed every minute. Mozz sticks (v day menu special) were SO good. Not at all what you would expect but I was pleased. No marinara, instead they had a spicy tomato paste. Filet and subbed fried for a bed of brussel sprouts, again, AMAZING. I can't rave about this place enough. Parking is street parking and I wouldn't say there's a plethora of it, but we managed to find a spot nearby without too much trouble. Went for brunch and the mimosas were expensive but quite good. Bartender was helpful and kind and service was at a relatively reasonable speed -- in and out in maybe an hour and 15 mins? I got the soft eggs scramble which was simple but delicious (would've liked a tad more goat cheese) and my partner got the eggs benny and gave them a thumbs up rating as well. Would probably give it a 4.5 because it's not the most amazing food I've ever had but overall felt it deserved to be rounded up instead of down. Good service, cute little place, and good food. Hidden Gem in the heart of Jersey City! Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, (free) parking is pretty easy to find day and night within a block. I've been there for both dinner and brunch and enjoyed both. The staff, atmosphere and food are all great. Definitely reccomend making a reservation as it's a small place inside, but they do seem to have a nice outdoor area which I haven't yet tried. Sad to say all the super creative people have to operate on the edge of town but I hope this place and the chef are very very successful. The parking is simply terrible in JC Heights and last night was no exception. The menu was imaginative but not well executed. The Gnocchi with beef ragu was a bit too fusion for my taste with hints of curry. Likewise the meatballs appetizer was disappointing. Meatballs were very hard and not moist while the sauce was overcooked. The arugola salad, however was excellent, with nice dressing. I also thought that the skirt steak was very good. Finally the meal was simply not worth the price which was very expensive. What a hidden gem! The hardwood floors, tin ceiling, and brick walls harken back to its beginnings in the late 19th century. The atmosphere was relaxing, the food delicious, and the staff attentive and friendly. Check out the indoor/outdoor room in the back with heaters to keep the customers warm and toasty. Oh, there's a tree growing through the ceiling. That's cool, especially for a large urban city like Jersey City. Definitely adds to the ambiance. Still a charming local establishment... Just a quick update from my last review. Came in for dinner this time on a Friday evening. We arrived around 8:00, it was such a nice summer night the outside patio called for us. Always a great place to hang with friends. Noticed this time that they have a small outdoor bar area. Dinner menu is somewhat limited with 7 or 8 different items plus the daily specials. For our appetizer, my dining partner and I shared the grilled shrimp skewers. That had a creamy horseradish sauce. Yummy. Just couldn't resist. My entree after eyeballing the menu was the skirt steak. It came with a mushroom hash that was substituted by brussel sprouts. Wifey in turn had the Fennel Fried Cod. Which she enjoyed. No chance on my end to even get a taste. A dessert this time came off of the specials menu. That being a graham cracker gelato. That I highly recommend if its available.
