Wow!! That had to be my first word on this review!! Jane Doe is an Italian/Asian fusion restaurant The flavors coming out that kitchen are something special! I came here for a co workers farewell dinner. We decided to order a few apps and dishes to share and im so glad we did that because we were able to try a few things! Omg the chicken and salmon skewers were magnificent! We also had the Octopus and lion mane mushrooms to start. All amazing!!!!!! For dinner we ordered the sliced chicken dish, the linguine, the shrimp scampi. For dessert we had the tiramisu and Lemon Olive oil cake. Amazing! I love a restaurant that incorporates all these unique flavors without overdoing it. Its executed so perfectly at Jane Doe. Staff here is very pleasant and attentive! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is beautiful! I love natural wood colors with the pop of green! The tableware is beautiful as well![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is perfect for date night or night out with the girls![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I really enjoyed the vibes and food here! I cant wait to cone back!

This place is amazing!!!! We had a reservation for 4 so we didn't have a problem getting seated right away on a Sunday night. My SIL comes here often so we tried it out. When you first walk in, the ambiance is beautiful! The exterior and interior really stand out and is such a vibe. We ordered 3 apps: the whipped ricotta (you can get extra bread), the octopus carpaccio and crispy mushrooms. Soooo amazing! My husband ordered the tagliatelle and I ordered the mafaldine. OMG, both pasta dishes were so good!!! For dessert, we shared the semifreddo. I ate at so many places that week, but Jane Doe really stood out. I highly recommend!

Jane Doe is a bit hit or miss for me, but there's one dish that truly stands out: the prawns. They're grilled nicely with good texture, but the real reason to order them is the sauce. It's rich and savory, finished with scallion oil and chili oil, which adds fragrance and a subtle heat that keeps it from feeling too heavy. I honestly wanted bread just to mop up the sauce. We also tried the crispy mushrooms, which were pretty average on their own and a little heavy from the cheese, but once dipped into the prawn sauce, they actually became much more enjoyable. The lumache pasta uses large shell-shaped pasta with a strong olive oil flavor and was slightly too salty overall, though the pork itself was cooked at a good temperature. The pork katsu was the biggest letdown. Despite looking impressive in size, the pork is pounded extremely thin, and the breading is thicker than the meat, resulting in a dry texture. I wouldn't recommend it. If I return, it would be purely for the prawns and that sauce.

Very pleasant meal The cocktails are well balanced and very good. The plates are creative and delicious. The portions are generous. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The room is airy and the service is attentive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Very interesting octopus carpaccio: spicy and flavorful, almost like they made a salsa and marinated the octopus in it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was full so it is popular.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Great food all around - especially the pastas. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Really different type of vibe and food than you typically get in this area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also love that it's nearby to some other bars/restaurants.

100% best new bar-restaurant in JC. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Friday night was packed, great rock and roll vintage+modern vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Bartenders know how to make a cocktail here, no question. The Italian Japanese fusion has become a popular food trend, so nice to see it locally. I had their market fish of the night branzino, it was perfectly cooked and served beautifully. Very flavorful but i would not say Japanese flavored or Italian, Just damn good! Im excited to come back and try more from their menu.

Super trendy spot and it seems to always be very busy. I appreciate that it is an adults only (21+) spot and good for a date night or double date as seating could be limited. Understandably it doesn't have a great mocktail selection as it is marketed as a "craft cocktail bar and restaurant". I think when my group went they had 2 choices so we got both and neither were good. We asked if any of the drinks could be made without alcohol and were told that they couldn't. What we ordered: Garlic Bread - confit garlic & herb pinsa bread Meatball Yakitori - jasper hill white cheddar, soy balsamic, onions, chives, ichimi pepper Tomato Milk bread Focaccia - zucchini butter, evoo, basil Tagliatelle - bone marrow cacio & pepe, black pepper, pecorino Wagyu Skirt Steak - laminated potatoes, truffle-parm aioli It is a fun place to visit with friends for drinks and the food is decent. I like their Japanese/Italian fusion inspired menu but there wasn't anything we tried that wowed us this time around.

We were back at Jane Doe recently. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The food, drinks and ambiance are still top notch![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 1. Food was delicious. The pasta with curry vodka sauce was particularly good. The Japanese/Italian fusion works well. 2. Drinks: mixed drinks are interesting and well balanced. 3. Service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. 4. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance: this is a loud trendy place. I like it, but it might not be the best place to take your parents.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 5. The menu is all on your phone via a QR code. There's a pop-up with the specials that appears every time you change section. Made navigating it a bit annoying.

Limoncello olive oil cake with mascarpone cheese frosting. Delicious but served a bit on the cold side. Would prefer room temperature.

Been trying to get here for the last three weeks but got preempted by threat of snow or actual snow the last two weekends. Finally made it Saturday as a party of seven. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated at a table by the front door which was great because it felt like we were tucked away nice and cozy in our own corner of the restaurant where conversation could be heard and no one had to shout.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Sorry for the lack of pics but we ordered four appetizers; whipped ricotta, tuna crudo, steak yakitori, and KFC sliders, none of which I did I take a pic of. All were delicious but if I were to rank them it would be steak yakitori first. KFC slider second by a whisker, tuna crudo third and the whipped ricotta fourth. Entrees ordered were Mafaldine, Branzino. Two of the chicken dish, Lumache and two of the scampi dish with prawns. Everyone was very happy with their entrees and there was not one take out bag to be had! Javon our server was phenomenal and handled our party of seven deftly. Jane Doe was worth the wait and definitely worth a revisit.

The amaro daquiri cocktail. So so tasty and refreshing.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a sexy spot! Our favorite bar in town suggested this location as #1 on their list.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Dimly lit restaurant. Great vibe with vinyls on display as par5 of the decor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You'll hear frank ocean, childish gambling, and Biggie on their playlist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Super friendly staff and the service is great! We ordered the Luciana and Karlita which were both so delicious it made us try other drinks on the menu. We had the shrimp skewer dish (forgot the name) DELICIOUS and the chicken skewer dish. So so good. The main event was the rigatoni. You cannot skip the rigatoni. SO GOOD! I am a fan of an olive oil and garlic type of pasta. This one took it a step further and wow! The grand finale was the limoncello cake. I enjoyed this one way too much. Thank goodness it was a large portion. Moist, sweet, and such a pleasant surprise. I cannot wait to go back and bring some friends.

    Ron M.

We came back (of course) and we still love this place. Friendly staff. Bar tenders (mixologists) Billy and John are amazing at their craft. Food is excellent and the price is reasonable.

    Mafaldine Pasta
    Gillian D.

Upon entry, the space for Jane Doe has a moody but upscale vibe. The high ceilings dim warm lighting are the perfect counter to the dark decor. Every dish and drink ordered was vibrant and flavorful with fresh ingredients. This is a great spot to go as a group of 4 so that you can share a variety of dishes. The ricotta appetizer is a very generous portion. It looks like the menu changes here quite frequently making it somewhere to revisit again and again.

It had a lovely, welcoming and enjoyable sweetness. - Pineapple Grill with Casamigos Meczal. Tasted exactly like a mildly grilled sweet pineapple with suddenly a Kick! Entree Time! I ordered the Wagyu Steak and Scrambled Eggs $38.00. The steak was off the charts delicious. A side of lightly seasoned Foxy Fries accompanied the meal. And the dressing wasn't loaded with cream, for a change. - Strigoli Seafood Pasta: Light, refreshing, seafood pasta tastiness with a small handful of scallops, crab and shrimp in a lemon-thyme reduction--I just could've used about 30% more of it to justify the $39 price point. Skip this. - Mashed Potato Rings: On the flip side, get this for one of the most unique and creative ways you can ever enjoy fried potato. Mmmm....I wasn't sure if I wanted to consume the starch or toss it onto a pole. - Passion Fruit Panna Cotta with Dulce de Leche: A spontaneous splurge, but we were well-rewarded with a tasty combination of bright gelatin, creamy dark sugar, refreshing lychee sorbet, and a smokey black sesame shortbread cookie to boot. Service was friendly and attentive despite the bust weekend dinner crowd and the fact that we were seated on the packed patio overlooking the lovely marina. The game started at 9:00 PM--the exact time the kitchen closed. The bar closed at 10:30 PM, before halftime, and the restaurant closed at 11:00 PM... at halftime. We were politely informed that we'd have to leave before the match was even over. I want to be very clear that this is not a reflection of the staff. Our servers, hosts, and bartenders were wonderful. They rushed our food and drink orders in before the kitchen and bar closed, checked on us throughout the evening, and handled an awkward situation with professionalism and kindness. They did everything they could within the limitations they were given. This falls on management and ownership. If you're going to actively advertise your restaurant as a destination to watch World Cup matches, your hours should actually allow people to... watch the World Cup matches. Otherwise, it feels misleading. Soccer games don't end at halftime, and anyone planning these promotions should know that. I genuinely hope this is something management reconsiders because the staff deserves better, and so do the customers who came expecting the experience that was advertised.

The weather was absolutely ideal -- warm enough to enjoy being outside but still crisp, with very little humidity. Basically, rooftop weather perfection. The biggest draw here is, without question, the view. The space itself is beautiful, with a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating, but seeing the Manhattan skyline illuminated at night is what makes this place special. It's one of those views that reminds you why people romanticize New York and the surrounding area so much. They offer a full food menu, although it appeared to be available primarily for guests seated indoors. The outdoor area seemed to focus more on drinks and lighter bites. Just know before you go: this is definitely a splurge spot. Everything is priced at a premium, so prepare yourself accordingly. Unfortunately, the service experience got off to a rough start. Both the security staff and hostess came across as unwelcoming and not particularly friendly. Whether they were overwhelmed or simply having an off night, it didn't create the best first impression. My biggest disappointment, however, was the restroom situation. By around 9:30 p.m., the bathroom was already in pretty terrible condition. Honestly, it was hard to believe it had deteriorated that much in just a few hours, and it gave the impression that it may not have been properly cleaned earlier in the day. Overall, Rooftop at Exchange Place delivers exactly what most people come for: spectacular views, a beautiful atmosphere, and an unforgettable skyline backdrop. Just be prepared for premium prices, a potentially lukewarm welcome, and hope that someone has checked on the bathrooms before you arrive.

I had an 8:30 reservation and arrived 30 minutes prior (according to their strict directions via text). I waited in line for an hour and 15 minutes and only received a wristband as the fireworks were going off and after arguing with the manager Jude. He consistently let walk ins in before dealing with any reservations. We also paid 35 dollars in advance. Once I got up to the rooftop, I was informed I would have to wait longer as they were kicking people out of our table. I asked to speak with a manager and again was forced to wait 35 minutes and witnessed a hostess quit mid shift. I do want to note, while waiting in line, a kind security guard informed me that the manager was letting people in who were late to their reservation. For example, a couple came at 8:00 for their 7:15 reservation and were let in. This was a horrible experience and will never be back. I understand the craziness of the 4th of July but this could have been avoided. Do not spend your money here, there are plenty of amazing places in Jersey City. Check out District!
