I have brought in two German motor vehicles. The South Broadway shop has parking in the rear - nice. The shop is large and well equipped. As car repair stores go, this one has a good vibe. It is adequately lit, spacey and has a creative and fun customer service area. Now to the nuts and bolts. Pardon the pun. They are good at using appropriate lubricants and filters consistent with manufacturer requirements. They are able to comfortably work on late model pricey German automobiles with high tech computer systems. Keeping up on expensive software can be quite difficult for non-dealership shop owners and technicians but they seem to be doing so. Fortunately, I haven't needed transmission or engine repairs so I can't write about it. I can write that as to mechanical issues, electrical issues and general maintenance issues their work has been excellent. They get it done in a timely manner. How about prices? Vehicle repair and maintenance work is never cheap for most motor vehicles (including Japanese brands) but, in general, I would estimate the cost of repairs and service are about 25% less than i would expect to pay at a dealer' service center. These guys were absolutely wonderful, they did an oil change for my 2016 BMW 535i xdrive for about 152 after tax which is the most affordable I've been able to find in Denver. They were more thorough with the inspection than any other mechanic and they showed me pictures and videos of everything they found. They also donate 5 bucks out of every oil change I believe to charity which was a really nice surprise. Their lobby and work areas are super clean and cool, they have some classic European cars on display in the garage. They even texted me a few days later to make sure that the work they did was satisfactory, definitely recommend! read more

This review is well overdue - I inherited a 2004 Audi A4 after losing my car to the hail storm last year. The idea of no car payments was exciting, and I decided to keep the car instead of use it as a trade in. I was not sure where or who I could trust with an estimate on the true condition of my car. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to stop running tomorrow, or the next day. I brought it to Audi Denver. They gave an honest inspection. As expected, the dealership had me priced 3x what this cars KB value was. I kept searching and found the Import Mechanics. John at the Import Mechanics contacted me early the next day. From that first conversation, I knew this was the place. I brought my car in, shared the first estimate, and they inspected my car. They took the most important repairs/concerns and explained exactly what needed to be done and why. A lot of the suggested repairs from Audi weren't imperative. I left with a car that didn't smell like it was going to explode, a car that ran stronger and smoother, a car that was (and still is) happy. The second time I needed assistance, the car was having some fault issues with the rear passenger door - and the battery terminal having issues. They repaired these beautifully and in such a timely manner. I never leave there wondering if I received honest, QUALITY work. I want to thank Brad, John, and all the mechanic brains at this facility for always providing excellent service. You all made a situation easy, and I look forward to my next oil change. LOVE these guys! I came in for a brake light issue and mentioned something else and they fixed a 3 year old sensor problem by actually using the CORRECT PART that was needed (unlike the other shops that replaced it 3x in the past/when I lived out of state) ... and guess what? NO more check engine light or deceleration (and my bulb was changed out). Woohoo! I had a nice loaner for the day, got to pet Harris (the shop dog), and they also did a recalibration on my brakes and determined I didn't need to replace yet. Yay! I will not go anywhere else! These guys are so great - friendly, helpful, personable, know what they are doing, great communicators, and it's a very cool shop! 100% happy. read more

A couple weeks ago, I found out my car was leaking oil for about a whole MONTH! This started happening after I got my oil changed at one of those instant oil change places. I went back to that place to see if they could see what was wrong and was told they would fix the issue, but my car was still leaking oil the following day. I finally decided to go to an actual car mechanic and came across this awesome business near where I live! My car was attended quickly and was told about the possible issue. I was asked to come back today to get my car checked again and was told that my car isn't leaking anymore! EXTREMELY friendly and professional staff!! I cannot recommend this place enough!! It's probably a bit more expensive than most other mechanics in the area but if you have an import or higher end car, it's advisable to bring it to guys who deal with imports specifically. Highly knowledgeable and they get the job done right and with integrity. I've been bringing my car to The Import Mechanics for the past three years, ever since moving downtown. They make accurate, trustworthy, diagnoses and they do repairs the right way. I've always found their pricing to be extremely fair: they aren't a discount place that is going to cut-corners and sell you something you don't need but they don't gouge you on pricing. The actual $ amount you pay will vary for different repairs (obviously) but they are always fair and the price you pay is returned in value. They give back to charity as well. P.S. Had my Audi wagon worked on here, they changed out the fuel pump and fuel filter, so far so good on the fix. However when I went to pick my car up I had noticed all my spare change was missing from the middle console as well as spare keys I had there as well. I asked to see the security tapes of their lot and they replied their lot is not under surveillance as they don't own it and they share it with a brewery next door. They were apologetic and informed me they always lock their customers cars but obviously this time they didn't. The change wasn't a big issue but the missing keys were. At the very least they could have offered to pay for back up keys to be made, but they didn't offer anything but an apology. If you have to have your car worked on here I highly suggest you don't leave it over night or for multiple days. A shop that works on nice imports should at the very least have security cameras in their lot. Other things that didn't sit well is they will charge you a $170 diagnostic fee that won't be applied to any work done and they will charge you a "shop fee" for items they use like shop rags, etc. I will never give them my business again. read more

We take both our cars here and couldn't imagine going elsewhere. The quality and care they put into their work really speaks to their abilities and wide set of knowledge. Even more so, their honesty and communication is second to none. On more occasions than one they have researched a service on our behalf, without us asking, to see if it was under dealership warranty and when it has they have recommended we go there to save money on the repair. He couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. We were experiencing a problem with our Fiat and called to schedule an appointment for repair. Not only did the The IM call to let us know of an earlier appointment that came up due to a cancellation but they did an exceptional job repairing our vehicle at a very fair price (which is difficult to find when dealing with imports). My car is finally fixed! After years of taking it to the VW dealership for service and having ongoing noise issues, these guys diagnosed and fixed the issue super quickly. I turned on my car and it was so quiet I couldn't tell it was on. Also, the shop itself is one of the coolest places in the city, everyone there is incredibly nice (especially the little black dog), and they even donate $5 for every oil change to a charity. As a result of an oil change/inspection special deal at the Audi dealership, it was pointed out that I had a tear in the passenger side CV boot. Dealer's estimate at the time was for approximately $1200. I called Import Mechanics and specifically asked for pricing. I was told, by a Peter (?), $450-650 for just the boot, if CV joint needed replacing the total would be $650-850, consequently I proceeded with the work. They closed at 5:30 and was running 10min late, but I called ahead and they were kind enough to wait. Unfortunately I was surprised with a bill for $1332.92, 50% more than the high end of what I was quoted.! I was in a hurry picking it up, they were closing and the person I needed to talk to had already left. Decided to let it lie until I got back to town, had to leave the next day. Upon my out of town return, unexpected family matters arose and I never got back. My fault, but the pricing and no heads up was not. Will look elsewhere for any future work, despite the convenience of their proximity. read more

Agree with the other reviewers here, these guys are top notch. I brought my Tacoma in for a CV Boot Replacement. Dealership quoted me an absurd price, these guys' pricing was fair and I got a 1 yr warranty on the repair. Repair was done within one day, I was hoping to have my vehicle back by the end of the week on a holiday week. Not only that, I had a janky right front blinker that had become disconnected from 4x4ing. My agent Lucas handling my vehicle let me know that the blinker was "bothering" the mechanic so they fixed and secured the harness free of charge. Lastly they topped off my differential fluid because it was low. I can't say enough about my experience, these guys are excellent and I've definitely found my new mechanic for my truck. read more

As you can tell by my profile photo, I own a German car. For the 1st time since I bought the car in 2007, I've decided to try a non-BMW dealer for a due brake fluid flush. As with most dealers, you expect the worse with the selling (if you don't fix this today, you will be stranded and be attacked by stray dogs as you stand on side of the road BLAH BLAH BLAH). No such tactics at this place. The SA was professional and didn't try any hard up-selling. The only item he raised was about replacing the Air Filter and the Cabin Filter. Since the car was built in '07 and it's never been replaced, I agreed it was due. Otherwise and at 49,000 miles, no additional work is needed until 60k miles. So while I ended up spending a little more than anticipated due to the filters, the work was done right and have no issues 4 days after the job. . read more

I highly recommend The Import Mechanics. I took a used Porsche here for a pre-purchase inspection (something you should do before purchasing ANY used car). Brad, their Porsche expert, spent about three hours poking and prodding the car in places that I didn't even know existed, and ultimately recommended not to buy the vehicle based on his findings - advice which I gladly heeded. Had I not taken the vehicle here, I would be left with an expensive car likely requiring very expensive repairs down the road. In the end, I was only charged about $68 for the inspection, which is remarkably cheap for how thorough it was. I will definitely be taking any European imports I'm interested in purchasing here in the future. Nile also provided great service in the waiting area, including an excellent recommendation to a nearby cafe for lunch. There were free waters and wifi was available, and a very comfortable couch kept me relaxed until the vehicle was done. Don't go here. Worse customer service. Rude. Bought tires from them with 70k miles warranty and they lasted 30k. They said nothing can be done about. At Costco where tires are about $100-200 cheaper they prorate the tires if anything happens. Also they are $50-70 more for synthetic oil changes. If they were nice it would be okay but their customer service the worse. read more

I had a great experience with The Import Mechanics fixing up my VW. Learned about them from, of all things, an ad left on my car windshield while I was parked for work. Though normally such things annoy the heck out of me, this flyer was incredibly savvy--the ad was directed at my car brand, it said that they were within walking distance of my office, and it keyed in on my biases by saying that their mechanic was a graduate of MIT. Being a fan of the Cartalk guys and knowing that they too are MIT educated, this come-on hit the bullseye. (I had to laugh when I looked at the mechanic's degree from MIT up on the wall and it said that he had gotten it in Oceanography.) And they didn't disappoint. Though I had estimates in hand from my dealer that the work required on my car would cost over $4500, the Import Mechanics convinced me that I could sensibly fix the problems for much less--only around 1/4th of the cost. I wouldn't have taken their advice had I not had some confidence that the mechanics were trustworthy and straightforward with me. A day later I had my car back and it was running great. Other plusses are their convenient Golden Triangle location behind the Denver courthouse (making it walkable from most Downtown locations), their comfortable waiting room, and their reasonable prices. After this nice experience, I just might have a new regular mechanic. read more

Might not seem like high praise at first but with the bad experiences I've had in the past, it is nice to find a shop that fixes the problem, explains the work well, and hits their estimates. Back again for some major work - clutch replacement and a breather hose. Feels like brand new! Turn around was quick, even quicker than clutch replacements I've had done on my previous jeeps!! This past summer I drove a 1984 Mercedes 380 SL out from Seattle. I had left it behind when I moved to Colorado a few years back. Upon my return to Denver I ran it out of gas. The following day, after fueling it, it died on me. I found a local shop near my office and and when I told them the make and model they recommended Bill at The Import Mechanics, "Denver's Mercedes guru." The guys at TIM test drove the car for a few weeks but couldn't find anything wrong with it. They easily could have sold me on heaps of parts or services that weren't needed, but they didn't. Additionally, my mechanic in Seattle recommended replacing a bunch of parts when I got back to Colorado as he didn't have time before my road trip. However, TIM disagreed, saving me thousands of dollars. The car has run flawlessly ever since. They are super nice guys- friendly and honest. Now they have a customer for life because when something does go wrong, as it inevitably will on a 32 year old car, I know whom to call. Bonus: the shop is walking distance to the 16th Street Mall Shuttle making it very convenient if you live or work downtown. read more

It's always a gamble taking your car to a new mechanic. I didn't have much of a choice, my car overheated right down the street and The Import Mechanics was the closest mechanic to me. From my initial phone call, they were friendly and helpful. I managed to drive my car there, about 15 minutes after they had closed, and there was someone waiting for me. They worked with my extended warranty company and made the process so simple. They finished the work quickly and my car seems to be driving better than before. I stopped here to beg, plead, and give my best attempt at puppy eyes to whoever I could find; that ended up being Michael! He was gracious enough to let me park here while I ran a quick errand. I've known about IM for probably about 5 years now, as I used to spend a lot of time near their old location. They always seemed to be very busy with a myriad of nice imports, so when I was looking for somewhere to trustworthy to take my '82 Porsche 911SC, I thought of them. I found them at their new location, and stopped by to make an appointment for a few days later. I was primarily having brake issues and thought it might need a good flush/replace, but I also encouraged them to take a close look around the car to see if there were any other red flags, as the maintenance history on it is relatively unknown. Not only were they able to locate the brake problem as originating from a leaky master cylinder, but they also noticed that both lower valve cover gaskets were shot and were leaking onto the exhaust (which I'd never have known, since it leaked directly onto the exhaust which then burned away the leaked oil when driven). Thank goodness they noticed or I would likely have kept driving it and eventually ran it dangerously low on oil. To top off my great experience, they were able to fix an ongoing electrical issue that was driving me nuts without costing me a fortune. While it's obviously in all of our best interests for IM to fix as much as possible with the car, it didn't once feel like I was being deceived when it came to severity of problems or their repair suggestions. The shop seems to be filled with guys who are passionate about cars and want to see them and their owners happy, which is why I will continue to take this car to IM and IM only! read more
