We have be very pleased with the food we have ordered for curbside delivery from The Improper Pig. We have done this 4 times. Everything has been tasty and fresh. The only thing we had a problem with was the size of the Appetizer of Ahi Tuna...Very small . The sauces are great! The Salmon was a great choice and my husband loves the 3 meat plate and the Mac and Cheese. The Spicy Green Beans are my favorite, I would like them in a bigger size - that's how good they are . We have never eaten inside because of Covid but it looks very crowded when we drive up. The smell is delicious at Rea Farms ! It will lead you to some great barbeque! read more

I wanted to go to the Improper Pig for my birthday. I heard from some folks that it was pretty good. At least for me it was not. First of all, the service. It was just plain awful. It was very slow and the restaurant was not even 1/3 full. Took forever to clear the used dishes and I had to request it. The food, was jus average at best. We ordered the Hush Puppies and the Pork Rolls. The Hush Puppies were burned, sort of like when you reheat them. The Pork Rolls were OK. Nothing to write home about. For the main course I wanted a platter, Brisket, Ribs and maybe sausage. Well, you could not add ribs and the brisket was $5 additional. So your choices were pulled pork, chicken and sausage. Really!!! I am from Texas and this is not how BBQ should work. We are ended up with the burger. Again, I had better at Chili's and for less money. In conclusion, I would avoid this place. Midwood is much better and it is not on my top bbq places or Jim N' nicks their biscuits are pretty good. read more

Went there for lunch today. Nice place with a friendly staff. We stated with the edamame which was very good and a good deal for the price. They have a very good children's menu. My daughter had the grilled cheese and apple sauce as a side. She ate up the sandwich but didn't care for the apple sauce. The apple sauce we a cinnamon apple sauce which she didn't like it. I tried it and it was good. The server was nice and asked if she wanted to try something else but my daughter declined. My wife had the Biggie Green Chile Stew. She really enjoyed it. It had a nice kick to it. I had a special, prime rib sliders. They were good, the buns made them taste dry. I asked for a side of aujus to dip them and it helped. Over all it was a good place that we will visit again. The service was a little slow but they might have been understaffed. read more

Absolutely delicious! One of the best restaurants in Charlotte. I have been to over 50 DDD restaurants all over the country, and this is one of the best! Everything on the menu is amazing but we always order the hushpuppies to start. Great barbecue including pulled pork, sausage, and ribs. Mac n cheese burger and all their burgers are also great. For sides- we had fries, chips, collard greens, jalapeño cheese, grits, and sweet potatoes. All were to die for. Good service as well, will be returning!!! read more

I had the opportunity to visit The Improper Pig last night for dinner and I must say that I was highly satisfied with the level of customer service, attention to detail, food quality and TASTE! I was blown away. We were seated promptly, greeted by the manager Brittany and assured that we would be taken care of. Everything that we ordered was superb. (Salmon, Hushpuppies, Spicy Green Beans, Collards Greens, Edamame, Smoked Teriyaki Wings, Mac and Cheese). Our host/bartender was amazing as well. I really like this place! There are some great things and some bad things, but overall I will return because I've found things I like and it's easy for my kids to find something they'll eat there as well! The bbq sandwich is excellent and the hush puppies with the honey butter are incredible. The baked beans are not good and the Mac and cheese is just ok. The brisket can be hit or miss... we like really lean brisket and their "lean" is super fatty. The peach cobbler is also terrible. I'm a true southerner through and through and I've never thrown out a peach cobbler, but I threw theirs out. The service has always been great, which is a huge plus, and the restaurant is conveniently located and adorable. read more

Slaw was so so, think it had changed since DDD show, as has the location. New location was very interesting and inviting. Wait staff and manager patrol was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Banana pudding was huge, waitress said people rarely finish, we had three and still took some home. Did recommend more bananas, and the waitress said she would pass that on. Went at the last minute with my family and wanted to recommend. We were seated quickly and had fabulous service. Larry was the bartender and our server and was very attentive, but we were checked in on by several staff throughout the night. Refused to push tables together and unfortunately that means we can no longer bring our family here. TL;DR saw server taste a drink & only change straw when we saw him do it the continued to deliver to customer; overall abhorrent service Ok so I never leave reviews. I hate being this guy. But this is actually a health concern! We get there, ask for the shaded table outside (offered outside seating), they tell us an imaginary party is waiting on the table. Of course they never show up during the entire visit. Food comes and is 5/10. Collards doused in sugar, slaw, bbq mediocre. Only competent person in the entire joint was the kind woman who brought our food--presumably a third party contractor hired to do a job the wait staff couldn't perform. All the while one guy is at the bar, and of the three or four tables there, they have all paid and are chatting. Finally pay for our food and order togo and it takes 10-15 minutes to arrive. Ok, I can buy that at a normal restaurant, but I'm attributing this to incompetence. Then we see the waiter/bartender do his 'straw swap' ruse only when we caught him. Aren't there bartender serving sheets? Measured jiggers? Do you even need a serving cheat sheet when you're making screwdrivers? Holy cow! Where to start?! $5 margaritas on Saturdays - pomegranate, jalapeno, or regular lime - ordered the regular lime, and I was very impressed! We got the Ahi tuna appetizer - only 4 slices, my only complaint! I got the Fern Bowl - wow! I almost got it without the coleslaw (it is on the side), but it was pretty good; it's got a honey mustard base, I think. The pickled onion garnish has mustard seeds in it. My father ordered the one meat plate with pork and sides of coleslaw and baked beans (made with pinto beans). He said the sweet tea was perfect too. My mom got the grilled pimento cheese sandwich with sweet potato fries (waffle style). I stole a few - also very good! We ended our meal with a large bowl of banana pudding. It doesn't have many banana chunks, but that was okay with me! Service was fabulous! Loved the ambience/decor. Haven't had an experience like that in a while - excellent overall, start to finish! Popped in for lunch on a Friday that I was out of the office. First time visit - but we've been driving by the place seeing it jam packed for weeks. We were super excited to see a new BBQ place pop up. The entry (backside by HT) was a bit weird, the hostess table is literally IN the door way - so if there's any back up, folks are standing outside for sure with the doors open (not good in the winter). We were sat kindly and given our first-timer red-napkin. We totally knew what it meant and were waiting on someone to come check on us. Our son ordered the ribs and we ordered the charcuterie.... (Both were super tasty) - have to agree the food was NOT HOT when it came out, but the flavors were good and the sauces were great as there was something for each of us. There was definitely an imbalanced amount of FAT in the brisket/pulled pork. Hands down, the best thing we ate (in fact, we ordered 2 orders) were the chorizo/cheese stuffed jalapenos. You only get 4 per order, but WOWSERS those bad-boys were delicious (and hot). We'll be back for lunch - just not sure we'd venture in a "wait" to go back for dinner. Glad they're here and hope they work out the kinks and figure out how to provide HOT meals before the masses turn on them. We're a finicky bunch in south Charlotte, but consistency and good service goes a long way. I have faith! read more

Earlier last week I was shopping at the fancy Harris Teeter, as I was putting away my groceries I smelled the best smell ever!! Low and behold a new resturaunt (with a funny name) appeared right across the parking lot. I took a picture and looked at the reviews and vowed to go visit. A few days later I saw my opportunity to have my mister, my son and I to go to the Improper Pig for a late lunch. As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by a lovely (I really wish I got names) bald guy. Soooo friendly! The inside was unique, clean and very family friendly (a lot of families were there and came in while we dined). Our waitress was a neat gal from Rhode Island. She was very nice, prompt and helpful. She was also lighthearted and joked with us. We got our meal really quickly. I had the pulled pork sandwich with slaw on the side and salt and vinnie chips. The bald guy took time to explain the different sauces they had on the table. It was sooooo good! My mister had the same, however he included the grits (I don't know anything about grits). My son had a mac&cheese burger which he claimed was very juicy and tasty. The chips did nothing for him. For dessert we did order the berry cobbler and they were kind enough to let us know they were out and went ahead with the strawberry cobbler. The strawberry cobbler comes out in a cast iron pan with a heaping spoonful of ice cream. I have to add the assistant manager stopped by our table and gave us a neat $5.00 off coupon. Our server was nice, but slow AF--and when she bothered to come over seemed super confused as to where she even was. The food, well...yuck. Every meat choice we had was so dry (pulled pork, ribs, sausage, brisket). We choked down what we could. What made it all a bit more ridiculous was the manager came over because a red napkin on our table signaled our first visit--but he never even asked how anything was or talked to us at all. He simply threw down a coupon (after dropping the stack of them he was holding all over the floor; twice) for a free app and walked off. We left the coupon and half our meals on the table.
