got the lunch special and it was pretty good! the serving size is really nice and i was able to have half for lunch and the rest later for dinner. I got the tikka masala and the eggplant dish. just a personal preference, but i think I prefer their butter chicken more which I had about a year ago but their tikka masala was still very good. it was my first time trying the eggplant dish it really grew on me, definitely a new taste profile and had a strong "spicy" taste. I was pleasantly surprised by how much naan was included, and their garlic naan is delicious. I love Indian white rice personally, so if you are getting the lunch special and feel the same i'd definitely recommend getting an additional side of it. the quantity they give is a good amount but i feel like since the other servings are pretty big you might just want more. read more

Tried India cafe for carry out as we were visiting the Huntington Beach area and craving some good old Indian food. The guy who took the order was polite and food was ready for pick up when I got there. We ordered chicken tikka Masala, Malai kofta, dal Makhni, garlic and plain naan, samosa and For dessert gulab jamun. The quantity was decent, taste of food was good but not great. Chicken was very tender and so were the koftas. However the sauce was exactly the same for tikka Masala and malai kofta. It would satisfy your craving for Indian food but it's not like I would drive from Vegas to eat here. (There are some places in Artesia that I actually would drive from Vegas just to eat there) We ordered everything medium spicy but the food was very spicy, and this comes from an Indian who eats really spicy food! I was going to leave a 5 star review for this restaurant because the food was excellent. I even left the waiter 20 percent tip which despite the little attention we got from him, we still gave it. We got the charge on our credit card and found out he added an additional $6 to his 20 percent tip. That is highly unprofessional and theft. I think anyone who plans on eating here should know this is unacceptable behavior and could run into this issue if you eat here. The flavor of food is the first thing you taste Indian food is like a palette of flavors. We had never been here before and was apprehensive when pulling up in the parking lot, it's small, looks like a Mom and Pop shop. I asked a guy coming out how's the food he just said quality very good. We were seated immediately very happy and friendly staff. Nothing fancy no expensive furniture. I remember the last time we came here we thought it was really good. We ordered food last night and it was not the same. The Tikka Masala and the Butter Chicken tasted like tomato soup. Not thick and spicy like it should be. Everything was very tasteless. Indian food should be flavorful and spicy! Even the mint chutney had no spice. This was my first visit too this ristorante and it is my last. I did a take out order over the phone. I went to pick up and gave him a nice tip but when I got home and opened the Naan bread it was cheese and I ordered chicken. I called and had to drive back to get what I ordered. BTW no one was in the cafe. I went back home and began to eat my food and the naan bread was not that great. It had tiny specks of chicken when menu said it is STUFFED with chicken. Very miss leading. I opened the Butter Chicken and there was little chicken and mostly sauce. The chicken was flat and dry if not old pieces of chicken and I am hoping it is chicken. Kind of bummed. I've eaten at this restaurant before and remember the food being delicious. Ordered delivery today and the flavors are all sweet and lacking spice (flavor) and heat. Pakoras were good. Chutneys were both very mild. Chicken Tikka Masada was more of a sweet tomato puree instead of a creamy, spicy gravy. The chicken was definitely more on the tough side. Instead of tender like Chicken Tikka usually is prior to being added to the cream sauce. Malai Lofta was a little better, but again...lacking spice (flavor). read more

The tandoori chicken was just right and juicy, the coconut fish curry beyond words and this is one happy Indian. Was craving Indian food this evening and found this spot on DoorDash. Ratings were solid and gave it a chance. Food showed up in 30min and I was very impressed. Went to Yelp to check out the location and ratings and it held up really well. The location looks a little mom and pop and we usually go to Mayur in CDM which has a really nice and clean restaurant with good food as well but India Cafe was very good and went above and beyond our expectations. Not sure how I missed this place living in Costa Mesa for a year but I went two days ago and was surprised by the amount of options there were for vegans. The menu is huge and has so many delicious traditional Indian options along with substitutions for dairy and meat. The man that helped me was very kind and helped us order everything vegan.
