Nina Simone custom tattoo by David Dettloff 2018
    Lisa A.

I did lots of research before choosing a place and an artist because I wanted a portrait and someone that seemed great with that. I chose David Dettloff - he owns the place, is a true artist, and has a wait list to match it. He also chooses the projects he will work on, so after emailing back and forth we found out we both have a love for Nina Simone which was the portrait I wanted. Not only is he worth the wait (he did most of the portrait freehand and it's gorgeous) he has now wrecked me in that no one else may tattoo me in the future except him. I'd post a picture of it, but you can find a link to his work on his FB fan page https://www.facebook.com/david.dettloff

Five stars for Kryss Cho. I had been going to her for years. This time, I wanted to cover up my sister's name; Kryss was booked a ways out so I decided to give RT a shot considering he's a 16 year veteran & all. I skimmed his portfolio & figured I'd give him a shot. I put down a $100 deposit & waited two weeks to go in. Not a multitasker, RT spent most the time chatting with my boyfriend & stopping work every few minutes. He had asked if I liked hues of blue & I said yes, thinking he'd add depth & shading to the piece & it'd look better. Remedy Rook came knocking saying his 2:30 was there. I felt RT hurriedly finished & sure it looked good fresh & dark, but after some healing time, well, you see the photos. I wanted a gladiolus, $160 & two hours later, I got: a floating cactus that's supposed to be the stamen of the flower, mediocre shading & her name still showing. After writing a reply to how my experience was, shop owners DL offered for me to come back in & have RT or himself fix the piece, I declined that offer quick. The photo collage with my sister's name & RT's cactus on the top right shows comparison. Later on after healing I went elsewhere & had my piece fixed. Stamen looks like a stamen, & flower (though still not a gladiolus), looks like a flower with life. So tell me how RT's recent piece on someone else (last photo) of flowers looks more full of life & he charged me $160 for a floating cactus?

Wow! What can I say!? I went I for a consultation, but no one was available at the time. (Totally understand...I just walked in.) The lady at the counter set me up for a consultation in two days...with Rodney. When I arrived for my consultation, Rodney was attentive, understanding and willing to assist as best he could after I told him my story along with what I wanted to have done. He was so thoughtful and caring when we spoke (I was distraught when I arrived). We scheduled my appointment for a week later (when we were both available). When he started to work on my arm, he began drawing the image with a marker free hand (IMPRESSIVE) along with shadowing and depth. He asked me to confirm if I like it or not (UM...YEAH) and then he went to work. The result: absolute beauty! Rodney is an asset there! Professional, courteous, insightful...hell, just damn good!! Thank you so much Rodney, and The Ink Lab staff! You helped to make a great ending out of a pretty bad situation. Excellent job! I will be back!!

The apprentice is supervised by a senior piercer, in my case the shop owner, and it was a great experience. We went slow and had an easy paced consultation making sure the placement was just right and would also meet the kind of jewelry I wanted. They were happy to change and mark placement multiple times until I was satisfied and the owner was happy. All in, I paid $90 for both piercings including jewelry plus a tip. Fraidy Cats came HIGHLY recommended by a friend who has been going to the owner Jamie for a decade now. I have 15+ piercings so this is not new territory for me. The same friend called the studio in the morning to check in with Jamie. Two of us wanted two new piercings, not one, and she said one appointment slot per person would be ok. We also let her know we had our own jewelry and she said it would have to be processed. She instructed us to book three back to back appointments with the same piercer online so we did just that and reserved an hour and a half time between the three of us (4pm-5:30pm). We arrived on time (3:58pm to be exact) and Jamie told us that she "messed up" the schedule and needed to help someone else first, but the staff came over to take care of us so it was fine. Our group of three proceeded to complete paperwork and a very lengthy after-care presentation. We were just following the staff's instructions so we figured we were still on schedule. Jamie joined us and called us by they/them pronouns by default which seemed thoughtful. She asked where we bought our jewelry from since it needs to be high quality. She went back and forth between the lobby where we were and her office on the other side of the wall to google the names of the studios where we said we bought the jewelry. Not sure if that's the best way to verify jewelry quality but ok. This was when things went south. Jamie said there was now only enough time for one of us to get pierced with jewelry that we brought and that there was no longer time for two of us to get two piercings each and that we would have to come back a different day. So we let my other friend who was visiting from out of state have that slot. I asked Jamie to process my jewelry alongside my friend's jewelry because I had a feeling there would be enough time for me. She reluctantly agreed and guess what? There was enough time -- my piercing was completed at 5:22pm. The piercer who did my tragus was kind, professional and personable. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned. Immediately after putting in the jewelry, she told me that it was slightly off and asked me to check the mirror. I calmly said that I didn't like it and asked that we remove it. She said ok but had to notify Jamie first. Jamie stormed in and was completely on the defense, saying things like, "This is a great piercing" and "It looks great to ME." I stayed quiet nearly the entire time. I struggle with social anxiety and standing up for myself, so the last thing I wanted to do was defend myself and start crying. All I was able to say was, "This isn't the placement I agreed to and I want it removed." Jamie removed the jewelry from my ear and explained to the piercer how it was at the wrong angle, while still not validating my decision to have it removed or apologizing for her piercer's lack of proper training. She also didn't do anything to stop the blood from pooling inside my ear and then raised her voice at me when I tried sitting up to prevent blood from going down my ear canal. The piercer tried helping me and Jamie started barking at her asking if there was blood on her floors (there wasn't). Thankfully Jamie left the room shortly after. When we left, Jamie didn't come out to ask how I was doing or say goodbye to my friend who, again, has been going to her for years and consistently refers people to her studio. I went back shortly after we left to ask for my deposit to be refunded since no one had mentioned it at any point. A staff member went to Jamie's office to ask and said that Jamie would take care of it within a few days. At this point it was clear that Jamie had no intention of seeing us out or following up on my experience. Again, this review has absolutely nothing to do with my botched piercing. These things happen. The problem is the way I was treated by Jamie. She had more respect for my pronouns than my well-being. Also I received my refund AFTER this review was posted on Google.

It's been a rough year with losing his mother to cancer, buying a house in a rough market, and the ups and downs of normal life. We chose Tiger Rose Tattoo for their reviews and their ability to do walk-ins was a huge factor. The gentleman who took our initial information was super sweet and kind, it was a $150 minimum but I figured it would be worth it to have quality work done. After putting our names down we came back 30 min or so later & I can't remember our artist but he was in the back corner. We were told before getting our tattoos that the fingers are a different type of skin so rather than doing a line all the way around, it was only on the top. Sounded reasonable enough so we went with his advice. This was my third tattoo so I opted to go first, he did a pretty decent job shaving my finger, cleaning me off, and getting me situated. Took all of 5 minutes and then it was my husbands turn. He got two lines vs I only got one. He didn't have his finger shaved, he also took about 5 minutes and then we got wrapped up, paid $300 for three simple lines total... which is a bit nuts, but we paid and were off on our way. This was on Dec 31st, it's been 2 weeks now and we're not thrilled with the results. It literally looks like someone took a fine tip sharpie and drew two lines on my husbands finger. On the left side of my ringer finger, there's a chunk missing where black ink should be. It's truly absurd how much we paid and we'll have to find a better artist to help either make the lines thicker or just forget the whole idea and have it removed. This was my husbands first tattoo experience and I'm livid with his results. Do not do walkins here... I wouldn't trust them to do any of my other tattoos.

Find the business on instagram, check out the artists work, and DM the person you want to schedule with.
