If I could give this place zero stars I would. I moved here last year it seemed nice. And despite all the bad reviews I still decided to make this place my home. And let me tell you that was the biggest mistake of my life.. let's start off with the staff. On the day of my move in I waited awhile outside trying to contact someone to let me in to move my stuff, I Rang the bell I called I emailed nothing back. FINALLY. The maintenance guy came and gave me my keys. Everything seemed fine the first couple of days. Until I started seeing little German cockroaches. I was mortified. Long story short they sprayed my apartment Atleast 5 times and I would still see them. I'm a very very clean person so I know it was not coming from me. (Had to be from the neighbors or from the previous) they didn't seem to care. They would just send someone to come spray and I would have to move everything in order for them to spray. I thought wow I finally got all my stuff moved in and now I have to pack it back up. So much time wasted. Then the mold started.. it ruined Atleast 10 pairs of my very nice shoes adding up to over 1000s of dollars. ( I had rental insurance) but oh no it doesn't cover that because there was no leak. How does my closet cause all of ky shoes to get wet, at this point I was so frustrated that I wanted to break my lease. Yeah sure you can do that. But you gotta pay 2000 dollars. I'm sorry what? You literally rented me a space with cockroaches and mold and you want me to pay you 2000 to move out? I didn't even wanna go home at times because I hated it so much. But I did not have the money to move and to get a new place as it's just me at the moment. Also you can literally hear a pen drop in these apartments. My neighbor was super weird and sketchy the other neighbor you could literally hear them have loud almost violent sex and people would party all night and you could literally hear someone walk past your door every night. This place is a joke. My lease was finally up I got out of there soooo quick I was done. I left the apartment spotless as I wanted my security deposit and have only been there a year so I figured I would get most of it back. Nope they charged me 130 cleaning fee. Why did I even clean then?? Should have left it a mess would have been the same. They also took over a month to give it back to me and I had to email them 3 times for updates. This apartment is a scam and I am sure that it's illegal for them to do what they do here not only that I would like to add to my apartment has been tested for mold that can cause cancer and also kill people!! But the office staff for one they let a guy with a gun in the building, not even a year ago and direct into my apartment. 6 . Water is always turning off. There is no wanting to give no explanation why the water is off this off one day until it back on same with the power. 7. Also, we have the party is in 119 having coke parties they have over 20 people in their apartment in a dog and they're never quiet and I don't know who's dick they're sucking in the office to get them to stay here like they are, but it seems like they can do no wrong by hanging a close up by smoking inside the building I just terrorizing the neighbors ! 8 OK so no one cleans no one does anything to the apartment everybody just walks around drinks and smokes all day so the apartment is really bad shape spiders, roaches, dog shit everywhere 9 the mode is my biggest pet peeve of this apartment, because they never told me that when I first moved in here and when I started getting really sick, I fell behind on the rent but now it's giving me seizures and other stuff like that that I have made millions of chips in the hospital money I cannot get back because of this apartment. After I move out she said my boss didn't accept it so you owe us money. I told her keep my deposit and half of the month i paid and I didn't stay there I don't want it just live me alone she confirmed . Now after 1 year realize my credit score went down 120 points . Hello everybody- I read the reviews below and I respect everyone's opinion. This is my experience while living at the Island Apartments : I moved into the Island Apartments about four years back. The community manager then was not who it is now. Shortly after I moved in Ms. Karen, took over the position of community manager. Not once did I have a negative interaction with my community manager not once was my request declined or delayed as far as needing something fixed inside the unit I rented. I always received a "heads up" 24 hrs prior to the water being shut down. It also gave me an estimated time it would be turned back on. The building overall is always clean now. Not like when I first moved in. The loud parties, late hanging out/visitors and frequent visits from Sheriffs/Ambulance/ Firefighters diminished. I strongly feel that this is due to Miss Karen's ability to connect with the community. Basically she cares. However she is kind but will be direct. So if you are an individual that does not like being "called out" by your wrongs or live in a quiet , clean well kept, drama free environment then this place is not for you. People- even the dogs get along. Mine was a bit challenging in his defense he is not a very socialized dog (I work long hours). Nevertheless my neighbors were very understanding and never made me feel guilty (even though I did). Dogs are friendly. They mind their business, enjoy the grass. Folks typically pick up after them but you will have a "lazy". EAZY fix. ..email Ms. Karen. The building is monitored 24/7. All she needs is time and date. It's our responsibility as dog owners to pick up after our animals! The main reasons why I relocated was because of traffic. It sucked coming and going to work. This Apartment building has gone down hill fast, there are a lot of improvements needed. The rules here are simply never enforced, people park wherever they see an empty space and even in the Disabled person parking spot. Also there are so many tenants that do not pick up after their pets, the one person that kept this place nice and clean Ben the maintenance man, is no longer working here. This place was a great place to live! To start up this will be your place. It was only me and my husband and we leased here for a year. We rented a 1 bedroom apartment. It was small but we didn't have much. The rent was 1300$ monthly plus they will include the gas and water so roughly about 1350$ for just us two. Which is not bad. We wanted to live in Downey at first but everything is way more expensive. We stumble upon this place and the lady in the office was nice and helpful. We moved in as soon as the apartment became available. We got to see the apartment before it became remodeled. It was a mess before it had rug and an outdated heater. But she mentioned it was going to be remodeled to have wood floors which was modern and easier to clean. In the beginning everything was great , we didn't like that there was a closet in the living room. It looked like it used to be a studio made into a 1 bedroom. But she did say that couldn't be taken out. The kitchen doesn't have a fan for the smoke when you're cooking will disappear there was just this big hole on top of the stove for that purpose. The windows were outdated. They wouldn't close correctly I had asked for a replacement but they only replaced the bedroom ones. The whole house had blinds. It made it look very nice and clean. There was a big air conditioner in the living room and in the room. It had a heater setting as well. We never had to use it because we had our own heater. I forgot to mention the kitchen comes with a small little stove. Not full size. You can't bring your own. Which helped us because we didn't have anything at first. The hallway had a drawer that was built in. I would use to place my essentials and the towels over head. The restroom was my favorite the mirror was nice and clean and the lighting was good in there. It comes with is own shower rod which is a plus.it has ventilation in there. The only thing is that you could tell they painted over the bathtub because after awhile of being used the bathtub started peeling. I could no longer take baths there. The room at first looked very small but once we put our king size bed we had a lot of room left. The floor was nice and easy to clean. Ceiling fans are included in both living room and bedroom. Spacious closet in the room. Overall everything was good. After living there for quite awhile roaches started coming out. It was only me and my husband so we would hardly ever eat at home but they stared aiming out everywhere when you would turn on the hall way lights there they were. We used to have some downstairs neighbors who moved out shortly after we moved in that had a lot of roaches but they refused to exterminate they would just use raid which is not 100% efficient. So we believe they were migrating upstairs since all the apartments are connected somehow. The cleaning or manager of the property was involved in too many arguments that happened with neighbors. So unprofessional , I did speak to actual management about but it was not fixed. The pool on site is a big plus. Living there in the summer made it so much fun . We would have our friends over all the time. Most of the time there was no one there. Always empty. Well kept and clean. The have a little yard for your dog to pee or poop with trash cans on site. I would recommend this place to live. If you want a start up apartment for a couple this is the lake. Sadly we had to leave after our lease was up because we had a baby and she would eventually need a bigger place so she can walk and play. Or else we probably would have stayed lobger read more

I lived here for a little over two years and had the worst experience! Apartment 109 closet has mold under the surface which ruined 8 pairs of shoes (management refused to reimburse me for the loss). They came and "cleaned it", by cleaning they wiped it down! There was constantly plumbing issues where the water was turned off almost once a week! There were leaks from upstairs neighbors, stuff coming up from the tub when I would get home from work. I finally moved out because paying over $1600 a month for a place that you always have issues at and caused me health issues due to the mold situations was not worth the stress. I received a check for partial of the deposit I gave upon the beginning of my lease. When I cashed the check it bounced 4 days later! As soon is my lease is up I will be moving out. The pool has been out of order since last Summer. It took them 9 months to fix the security gates and doors. This is the worst nastiest place to live at! dirty dirty dirty! rats, roaches and bedbugs all over the place. every week they cut off the water for the day to fix old 1950s pipes. It is unclean, there is dog poo all over no tenants pick up after them. The place is just one bedroom and studios yet there is about 5 kids per unit and they run all over outside and inside making horrible noise even til late at night and management does nothing. management looks the other way at everything, they do not care about making anything peaceful or nice they do not fix anything and are sneaky. If you live there now or plan to make this mistake make sure you use your deposit for your last month rent because no matter what they say and how clean you kept that turd, they will not return your deposit. it is a sorry excuse for a building down to every person running it, a real shame. read more

Apartment complex is very modern and well kept which is excellent. My only gripe is the plumbing needs a major overhaul, ASAP!! The pipes get super loud when in used and the noise is quite disturbing. It is apparent they cut some corners when remodeling the complex. If it wasn't for the pipes, I would stay here for many more years. However, with my lease being up in a few months, I'm questioning how much longer I can put up with these noisy pipes? read more

I believe since the last comments they have renovated the apartments. The manager David and the maintenance staff are very prompt in answering any questions and concerns, and acting on it. The apartments are always kept clean. The area is pretty safe to walk around or go for a run. They are pet friendly. Horrible unprofessional employees. The building is old and infested with everything. Ive seen rats, roaches and bedbugs. The neighbors are all noisy and with too many children for studio apartments so the noise overflows to the outside central space and only space for both tenent and pets making a loud living environment 24/7. Ive been woken up at 4am too many times by careless noisy people or kept up all night by music and constant parties. Management does nothing at all. The water gets cut off at least 2 times a week sometimes more. The bathtub and sinks will overflow and fill with nasty water alot too at least once every few months. Now they have construction ongoing and its on repairs that are just a cover up to hide this horrible place. The police are frequent visitors of many neighbors who fight with their family or girlfriends and the building is built like a courtyard so everyone sees and hears everything. They do not clean at all. I have seen the workers once in a great while pick up dog waste but tenents never pick up after their animals. The halls are dingy and smell of old mildew and years of neglect. I would argue that it is not a livable place and should be torn down. read more

I had a family member live there for years cause it was they could afford till the new owners took over and raised the rent by more than $200. She will literaly let you know a couple of minutes before closing off water. Enough about that, the pest problem is a serious issue there are roaches everywhere and the last time i was in the on site laundry room i saw dead bed bugs. I just walked out of there as fast as i could. There's always someone screaming or fighting going on but what can you expect from a studio community. I've lived here for a year and am moving out when my lease is up. The apartment below me the guy plays his music SUPER LOUD. At about 9 am (its sporadic) he plays his music and it is so loud I can hear it clearly in my apartment. At times he goes until 9 or 10 at night and I find it hard to believe that management does not know that its happening considering for about 10 months I've heard his music at times that loud and in the morning/middle of the day. it's gotten very annoying in the last few months. There are roaches here. Not super big ones but they are there, it doesn't really matter how clean you are they'll be there. I have absolutely nothing in my kitchen (it's all packed away in boxes) and I've still seen a few roaches crawling into cabinets and around the kitchen, even in cabinets that have never had food in them in the entire time I've been living here. I've asked a couple of times for the pest control company to come spray my apartment but the management has never made an effort to make sure they take care of it the general excuse I got from someone in the office is that its hot (summer) and that its something that should be expected (Um it's hot at my parents house and they don't have a roach problem). Also I'm pretty sure a few people have had bed bugs in the apartment complex since they scheduled for an inspection of the apartment and the only thing they inspected was my bed and the surrounding area -luckily I haven't had that problem. The management isn't really on top of following through. They say they are going to do things and don't really do it. I was supposed to have my walkthrough first thing in the morning. Thirty minutes after I finally called the office and they said they forgot it was happening today they also lost my rent check and said they would credit me on the next rent and never did. My biggest problem is that I feel like management doesn't really make the effort to follow through they say they will do something but don't do it. It's very frustrating to be a tenant and feel like you have to constantly be on top of the management to get anything you need done. Honestly if something is wrong/broken in your apartment its way easier to just catch one of the maintenance guys and ask them to come help you out with something you're having a problem with (The maintenance guys are so awesome and nice!). I wish this place was better but honestly I didn't have any type of hesitation when it came to deciding if I was going to renew my lease. It has some good qualities - a few of the neighbors are super nice - but overall its just not worth it for me. Such a shame it could be way better. read more
