Our room was huge, outdated, clean. The blue carpet needed replacing. For breakfast I noticed danish/bagels and coffee/juice. The pool area was surprisingly nice and had some privacy. Ok, this should probably be a 3 or below, but I gave it a 4 because it fit the needs of my family. I have 3 young boys and my wife and I wanted an adjoining room. So much of the Gold Country lodging is older B&B's and there is no option for a family to stay together. The Lodge was able to accommodate our needs. The place is a bit rough. Not unclean, but older and pretty worn. One of my sons immediately started saying the room "smelled like salsa" when we walked in. The place is clean, but definitely has been used thoroughly. Staff was friendly, even though they tried to push some of the more marginal restaurants in the area as suggestions. All in all it wasn't bad, but be prepared for an interesting experience and remember that you get what you pay for. read more

The rooms are large and clean, the beds a bit soft for me. The pool was clean and well maintained (one of my pet peeves at hotels) They have these cute little cottages but the main building is really a motel. Still, if you're just passing through it's a good value. read more

The place was semi clean and centered with all the sightseeing we had to do in the area. The premises had a pool and they serve breakfast, which was not very good. The cereal was stale. Bottom line: this place is DISGUSTING. The room we are in is on the bottom floor-I hope, for the hotels sake that is an old un-renovated room. Carpets are blue berber straight out of the late 80s, worn, pilling and stained. Wooden furniture is literally falling apart, chunks missing, splintered pieces falling off, the metal knobs are rusty. I would give zero stars if I could. I suppose the 1 is because as far as I have looked, the sheets I'm sleeping in aren't stained and don't smell like cigarettes. I can't believe i paid $97 for this dirty place. I've paid $49 for cleaner newer rooms with normal hotel amenities. There's an old coffee maker in here-but no cups to put any coffee in. No blow dryer in the bathroom.... Ohh the bathroom, stand up shower, old stained peeling linoleum floors, dirt in the corners. Old oak bathroom vanity that looks like termites took to it. No bag for laundry in the closet. No visible outlets... Had to unplug coffee maker to find a spot for my phone. I'm not picky. I've slept in dirt huts in third world countries....but if I'm gonna shell out a hundred bucks, I expect cleanliness, and rooms that have been updated since 1989. If I had paid $39 to stay here... I would deserve lying here in bed, listening to everything my neighbors say and do (cringe) through the thin walls, Feeling like I need to shower from being in here, but I didn't. So I don't deserve this. I am taking the time to write this because I can't sleep and I want to go home, and that makes me angry because I can't go home.....so here I sit taking out on the yelp page. Pregnant, hormonal, hoping there aren't bed bugs and disgusted with myself for not researching this place better. Don't make the same mistake. Ps. Nice large and clean rooms (we had a king room). Lodge a little older, but in good shape. It's also in a good location, right off Hwy 49 but below the level of the road so not much traffic noise at night. We travel with dogs and they are very pet friendly. We will stay here again. read more

This was the WORST experience! Reservation booked with confirmation in hand. Owner did not understand that I wanted to stay one night, not two after multiple attempts to explain. He authorized my credit card for amount for two nights. I said it was wrong amount and he started yelling at me that it was two nights. He got son on the phone who spoke better English. Son explained to Owner that he needed to just charge me for one night. After check in paperwork complete. I asked how he would adjust overpayment. He yelled at me again and said he wouldn't rent me the room. I explained that I had been driving all day, just wanted to sleep. He processed refund and I explained that I wouldn't get the authorization amt removed for 72hrs and now I didn't have enough money to rent a room elsewhere. He yelled at me and told me to leave. I explained how he authorized $187 and was not only overcharged, but now I was really in a bind. I asked for my credit card back that he was holding and he screamed to get out. I asked again for my card and he said he would call the police. I had to reach over the counter to get my card back and deal with law enforcement. Still no refund three days later, and when I call to ask about it, owner yells and hangs up on me. read more

This COULD be a cute place to stay. We stayed in one of the "cabins" with a view of the open space. We watched a couple of deer in the evening as they foraged. However, there was a layer of dust on the coffee table in the living room, and the dining room table had drink stains dried on it. When we wiped it with a damp paper towel, it came away black. The shower had no shower head. It made me wonder how clean the sofa and carpet were. It is dated, but that did not bother me. The manager was very congenial to my husband. This place, well is very horrible to stay at for starters. I have had a family reunion here for about 5 years now. Every year they give one of our family members rooms away to someone else and we reserves these rooms a year in advance. And well this time it happened to me. And the people there can't even speak English. The room is gross and very outdated. The shower will be hot and cold. The beds are very uncomfortable and stiff. I will never come back here. read more

My daughter stayed here for a soccer tournament (room 214). She woke up to bugs in her bed at 4AM. They stripped the bed and found more under the covers. They were on the nightstand. There were many of these bugs. The owner and his daughter did not seem concerned about the rude awakening that my child endured, nor did they reimburse the girls for the room or offer an apology. They had no response to their questions...what types of bugs are these? have you had this problem before? Luckily, my daughter took pictures of the bugs so an exterminator can determine if they are the worrisome bed bugs or not. I really hate to leave a bad review BUT this is unacceptable and I don't want another family to go through this. read more

I would never stay here again. We tried to stay here and required only 2 major things, WiFi and warmth (there was a 3-day power outage at our house and we were freezing). We tried 3 different rooms (including their "deluxe cabin"), and couldn't get a warm room or a strong WiFi signal. We checked out and the manager made us pay him $40 to put it to rest (though he didn't charge for the rooms). I wouldn't have paid it but my husband did. Outrageous! We stayed here end of April 2013 for my friends wedding which was nearby in Ione along with many others who came from out of town for the wedding. It has a great location but the management gets two thumbs down! Right when I entered to check in the lady (a couple who runs the place) handed me the phone to give another customer directions because they didn't know how to give directions or properly communicate. Ok...they were hard to understand but to top it off they are very understaffed and weren't able to accomodate guests needs at all. We stayed two nights in one of the cabins and our room didn't get cleaned or stock with new supplies. Not to mention that they denied the newlyweds a nights stay (last minute change for the newlyweds) because they supposedly had "no vacancy" when it was obvious that there were plenty of rooms and even some of the cabins available. Turns out they were too lazy to clean the rooms to allow them to stay. We spoke to the "owner" to try and get a room but he was just as rude and said he couldn't help. If I ever go back to Jackson I definitely will not be staying here! Also I believe this place has bed bugs because I heard other people who went with us say they have bites! Disgusting! read more

I should preface by saying I didn't actually stay here.... but that is because they "gave my room away - by accident". I called six months in advance to make a room block for my July wedding. Four rooms reserved for myself and out of town family plus ten rooms for people to pick up as invites went out etc. About three months before the event I started to get calls from some of my guests that Matt (the manager) was pushing them to stay two nights, some even saying he was requiring a two night minimum to make the reservation. I called to see what was going on and he assured me there was no minimum and not to worry. He also assured me the room block was filling up and to tell guests to hurry as another group would be having a reunion there that weekend. A week before the wedding we received a call that they had accidently over booked and given away the four rooms I had held for myself. I was less than pleased. He offered to make me reservations at another hotel across the street (I googled it, it was three miles away) he then asked which people I would like him to call and kick out of their rooms. "The last four to make reservations, I guess" to which he replied he had no way of knowing so I would have to pick and choose. I was comfortable with that, so I asked if he might consider moving some of the other hotel guests to the forementioned hotel, as I made the room block over six months ago and the whole reason we booked together was so the bridal party and groomsmen would actually be together. He got quite rude after that..... The other group's business "means more than yours" as they will come back year after year if all goes well. I was SHOCKED! He admitted his mistake and said by offering to make the reservations he was "doing more than he had to" to help me. Then he adds, "If you don't like it, I can just cancel all the rooms." I bit my lip. Jackson is a small town and finding 14 rooms together with only a week's notice would have been impossible. I ended up making my own reservations for the four rooms lost. Why would I trust him to do it? And even more, why would I pay him for his mistake? Our hotel was lovely, but it was sad not to stay with friends and family as planned. My point I guess, confirm, then re confirm, then rere confirm any reservations at this place. read more

Wow, this site is a bastion of negativity. I was petrified to stay here after I read the reviews. FYI, I just looked and posted on trip advisor, and those reviews are much more in-line. I believe yelp is filled with people who just have nothing better to do than spread negativity in the world. Professional yelpers. Ugh. The front desk is extremely pleasant and helpful, as opposed to the reviews calling out his "attitude' and...BIG SURPRISE...racial background..in the same sentence. A wrong guess on their part, but hey...what can you expect from ugly Americans who don't know that all Latino people are not from Mexico. There is also a nice lounge there with a fireplace that leads out to the pool surrounded by grass. The rooms all look out to oaks and grass, I'm not sure how many versions there are, but we had two, different lay outs, and ours was definitely the better one. It had two windows and oriented so that the widest part of the room looked at the view. Huge difference. Sure, the decor in our room was "dated", but wow...reading these reviews? Our room was clean, the view was very pleasant out to nature. There was free wifi, which had no glitches or slow downs. The TV was a newer flat screen. The shower had fantastic water pressure, no loss of hot water. There were several buses of teenagers there for some event and we did not hear a peep from them. We know they had rooms directly above them because we went to bed fearing the noise, but heard none. I would definitely stay there again. read more

I just stayed last night at the Jackson Lodge. First of all, the man at the front desk could hardly understand English and then quoted me a higher rate than was even on their website. I told him the sign outside said "Specials - Sunday thru Thursday" and he just gave me a blank look and I'm sure he didn't understand barely a word I said. He did agree to the lesser rate when I told him what it was. My biggest complaint was that my daughter called me that night and asked to speak to me and was told by the same front desk person that I was not staying at this hotel. She was in a panic calling all of the hotels in Jackson and had to wait until the next day for me to tell her I was alright because my cell phone does not work in Jackson. I called back today to complain and the same man answered and couldn't understand what I was talking about. I asked to talk to the owner and he managed to tell me he would be back at 3:00 pm. I will be calling back to complain. I strongly recommend that you look for lodging elsewhere. If there was an emergency, you probably wouldn't be contacted due to the communication problem. The beds were very hard, too, and the TV was ancient with no color, black and white with a slight green background. read more
