My friend was in town and wanted to try a new place so searched on Yelp and decided to try The Jin after checking out the reviews and picture. We got there around 7pm on Saturday and was seated promptly by the hostess. There was no line but the place was pretty busy. The place has a warm feel to it, wasn't too bright and wasn't too dim. The place isn't loud. Started off with soy garlic wings ($15 - 7 pieces) which was solid. Got the cheese tteokbokki with katsu chicken ($15) which had a nice balance of crunchy and soft texture. Also got the LA galbi with corn cheese ($24) which was also solid. If you are in the mood for Asian fusion dishes with fair prices (in NY) I would highly recommend this spot. read more

I wanted to love this place. First thing, the decor is nice. This looked like a place where you would go to relax, have some drinks and appetizer kind of foods. We didn't order drinks but we did order shareable dishes, I think one too many for the two of us but as always, we wanted to try them all. My favorite dishes were the Wings and the Cheese Teokbokki with Chicken Katsu. The Shrimp Korean Pancake was bland so I dipped it in the Teokbokki sauce which definitely improved the taste. I did not like the Kimchee Fried Rice at all. It was mushy and did not taste like kimchee. We did end up bringing a lot home for leftovers so we put it in a stone pot and even though we didn't change the flavors, the crispy texture made it a lot better. I'm not sure I would go back because for us, more than ambiance, the flavors have to hit. Two out of four dishes being a miss doesn't make me want to try the other dishes. In an unassuming spot, we weren't sure what we'd get, but this place surpassed expectations. The wings and ttekoboki were incredible! My mouth is watering thinking about those juicy big wings & I can always go HAM on ttekboki. In general our group preferred the corn cheese over the short ribs, but it was a lovely dish none the less. And the shrimp pancake left something to be desired, maybe the kimchi pancake would have been better. Overall a solid spot for Korean if you don't want to trek down to K town. I also felt like even though japchae is inherently sticky, these almost felt more sticky than usual, making it harder for my friend and I to share the dish. At the end of the day, though, not really a huge issue, and the dish tasted good. We also tried the shrimp scallion pancake, which basically tasted like a seafood pancake (but with only shrimp). The food did not taste authentic to Korean culture but it was decent in its own way. The wings are quite large and the chicken itself feels good quality. The bones stay together while the meat is juicy and hot. The batter is crunchy but does not stay on the wing as much as I would like. We tried the soy garlic flavor which was a bit salty for my taste. I did wish they served them with blue cheese and some daikon. I enjoy wings from Koko and Pelicana more overall but these were still very good. The sizzling corn cheese should have more corn, I would skip it unless you really want a lot of mozzarella. The kimchi fried rice was really good - lots of kimchi flavor without being too acidic and with good texture. I have gone a few times to eat Korean fried chicken wings, and, without a doubt, they are some of the best such wings in town. On Friday night I stopped in with two friends. We ordered a pitcher of beer, a large half-and-half wings (spicy, soy garlic), and an order of mozzarella sticks. The beer was cold and refreshing. The sticks, breaded in panko and served with tonkatsu sauce, have no equal. Then the wings arrived, and we plundered greedily. Korean fried chicken wings have a crispy exterior that gives way to tender, juicy meat within. The spicy wings have a little kick to them, but not enough to make things challenging. Both are delicious, and I encourage you to go whatever route you prefer. Service is good, sometimes better, sometimes worse, depending on who your server is. It seems clear which of the staff are here because they want to be versus it's just a job. My boyfriend got the beef burger with fries and pretty much inhaled it. What he really loved, however, was the shrimp and scallion pancake. It was eggy and so flavorful. The best part of my experience here was the nice people working here and the kimchi pancake. Everything else was truly meh compared to Korean I've had elsewhere in the city. The japchae didn't have a lot of flavor, and the tacos seemed a little too big and mushy. The ramen broth was quite good, though I'd like more things in the broth. Generous pork portion, though! Pretty broad menu of Korean favorites in a cozy little Hell's Kitchen atmosphere. The fried chicken is a must while the other items were pretty tasty too. A little goes a long way, so possible to have a reasonably priced meal with friends before a night out. Cheese Tteokbokki with Chicken Katsu: I was shocked that the rice cakes were the star, instead of the chicken katsu. That's because the tteokbokki was perfectly tender and chewy, swimming in a sea of delicious hot sauce. And that hot sauce clung to the rice cakes ever so wonderfully. Plus the melted cheese on top was nice. The chicken katsu was a bit thin and kinda dry, but once dunked in the red sauce it was great. Wings (Soy Garlic, Spicy): They must be using gigantic chickens because the wings were like 2x-3x larger than what you might get at Bonchon. Yes, the batter was thicker too, but the meat underneath was definitely bigger. Perfectly crispy, as Korean Fried Chicken should be. Even after absorbing a lot of the wet sauce, it was crispy. The soy garlic seemed heavier on the soy sauce than I'm used to, but still good. The spicy flavor was a little tangy, but also very sweet and sticky. I can see why this dish so popular here. Thick Cut Pork Belly with Sautéed Kimchi: So this was not like the slow cooked falling apart huge piece of pork belly. It was thinner cut pieces char grilled with a firmer bite. Our first night in midtown ... wanted some KFC.. not from Kentucky... more like Korea,  Found this place about 5 LONG blocks from the hotel.  The store front is really narrow, but it goes back pretty far. So the best word to describe the decor is WOOD.  The walls, tables, chairs/benches and utensils.  The place is really clean.  The staff is quickly turning over tables and cleaning.  At each table is a bottle of hand sanitizer.    OK so we went looking for Korean fried chicken and they had wings on the menu so WIN... but they were out of the chicken wings tonight so we went with the boneless with a soy garlic sauce.  We only got a small, that was supposed to be 8 pieces, but they gave us 9 so THANK YOU!!  What came out was awesome... juicy pieces of tender white meat that is crispy and full of flavor.  It comes with 2 other dipping sauces... one gochujang and the other a sweet soy based.  You cannot go wrong with this as an entrée. Beef Bulgogi tacos - 1 order is 3 tacosThis is far east meets south west. Flour tortillas street taco style.  Really good flavor.  Beef was tender and was loaded with various veggies and a little cheese on top.  The only negative is tortilla could have been a steamed a little to make it a bit softer.  Beef Bulgogi Japchae.  This dish had a very enticing aroma.  You can smell the toasted sesame oil and soy sauce.  However, when you dig into it, the yam noodles were a bit overcooked and the flavor was too light.  I was expecting to be kicked in the face, it was more like a gentle breeze.  All the other components were perfect though.   Single shared restroom.  The paper towel dispenser was broken, however there was a roll of brown paper towels by the door on a shelf.  The floor was clean and dry. Service was fast and the staff was very attentive.  They ensured all the tables were wiped down and clean. Juicy, plump, fantastic chicken wings and drumsticks. We ordered Uber Eats because we were lazy at night (tourists, don't judge) - four large chicken wings so 11 wings each. We initially didn't like the price point so we were hesitant but gave in after a few drinks. While it took close to an hour for delivery because no couriers were interested, the chicken remained crunchy and was not soggy. We had two large originals, one large soy garlic, and one large half and half with original and soy garlic. No spicy chicken but we were provided lots of soy sauce and spicy sauce on the side. The soy sauce was sweeter, almost like teriyaki sauce but not quite. I believe a spicy order would come lightly marinated in sauce much like the soy garlic. This was a ton of food and bloated us, we would be happy with just a small order each. Regardless of sauce, the chicken was so tender that the meat fell off the bone smoothly and the chicken was also juicy. Many pieces were absurdly large, not your typical smaller Korean fried chicken wings. Soy Garlic Wings are marinated lightly so they will get a little soggier and less crunchy, but they maintained form very well. The texture and crunch was still fantastic and the taste on these was the best as it actually had flavor that wasn't too overwhelming. Slightly salty yet sweet. Original Crispy Wings are just like fried chicken and remain crunchy the entire time without worry. The menus are taped on the wall which is interesting but a little inconvenient to the people sitting across the table and cant really see. Service was pretty good. They took our order quickly and food came pretty quickly as well. Server was polite. We ordered the small order of wings, which came with 7 pieces and had them put the garlic sauce and spicy sauce on the side. Wings were huge and very crispy. I wasn't a fan of the soy garlic sauce (more soy and not enough garlic) or the spicy sauce (a little too peppery). I thought the wings were fine without the additional sauces so it all worked out. Wings came with pickled radish that paired with the wings. We also got the thick cut pork belly with sautéed kimchi which was really good as well. I was in the mood for Korean fried chicken so I gave The Jin a try. One of the other Yelp reviews mentioned the chicken is oddly very large, and it's true! The chicken wings are HUGE -- not sure if this is a good thing of bad thing. I didn't care to much for the hot and spicy wings, but the soy garlic was very good -- maybe a bit on the saltier side, but I enjoyed it. The rice bowls are larger than I expected. Definitely enough to take home for left overs. The servers are also really nice. I ended up staying a talking with a friend for almost 4 hours and they never once rushed us to go. Probably a 4.5/5. This place has one of my favorite tteokbokkis ever. The sauce is so irresistible (best tteokbokki sauce I've had), it is a good spicy but not overwhelming, sweet, salty, savoury, and a good thickness (not too watered down). The rice cakes are chewy. The cheese is a buttery accompaniment to the spicyness of the gochujang sauce, each one elevating the flavor of the other. A unique part of this dish is that it comes with chicken katsu. This adds a crunch and different savoury element to the dish. Dip the chicken katsu in the incredible sauce, and it is on another level. There is one part of the dish that I feel could be improved however to make it truly perfect. The cheese is charred and has a burnt taste, which is a bit off-putting to this perfect balance. I feel it would be better if the cheese was baked until crispy, but also ooey and gooey in the center. The Korean fried chicken is great. The breading is very crispy, albeit a bit thick. The soy garlic sauce is full of flavor - salty, garlicky, sweet - and was so delicious. The spicy sauce - spicy and sour - had a slightly unbalanced amount of sour I feel.
