I wanted to see what all the hype was about so I decided to come here with a friend for a birthday treat. Upon arrival we were bombarded by a crowd of people and was told that we would be seated in about an hour. Luckily, we were seated in about 30 minutes. The first turn off was that our appetizer came out before our drinks. We ordered a 1/2 pound of sausage w/ all three sauces on it and it was nothing special. It tasted like a glob of grease - the sausage wasn't juicy - it was soft, brittle, and sliced way too thin. I ordered the fried catfish with shrimp and regular fries for my entree, and again..nothing special. The shrimp were delicious but the fish could've use a little bit more frying and a lot of more seasoning. It was only $10 though, so you really cannot beat their prices. As far as service, it was HORRIBLE. We had to constantly search for our waiter for refills, napkins, straws...we had to remind him numerous times to check on our food. He seemed out of it though, so maybe that was the reason. However, the worst part was when we asked when they were going to sing me Happy Birthday and his response was "I tried to find people but everyone(other waiters) says they're busy." None of them seem genuine. * The food isn't as good. The juicy special is pretty much Cajun and lemon butter. There's a hint of the other seasonings but in the end it just taste like spicy grease. * They're overpriced. Like extremely overpriced. You're best bet is to go at lunch if your a first timer. I'd heard so much from family about how good this place is long before I got to the door. I'm a Marylander so I'm pretty up on my seafood and figured that this place would be middle of the road at best, especially given that it's located in a shopping center. They were quite busy when we arrived and I believe the wait was quoted at about 30 mins, which I thought was pretty good given we had 13 people in our party. I found the restaurant to be very clean despite how busy it was, which was nice. The staff were exceptionally accommodating, especially given our party was quite large at 13 for our visit. The waiter appeared in a timely fashion and checked on us often through the meal. He also made things quick and effortless when it was time to split the checks. As far as the food goes... I ordered the fried clams basket, calamari, and the full pound of shrimp with the juicy sauce mild. The shrimp were accompanied by a single red skin potato and a heavily seasoned piece of corn. Overall I enjoyed the meal, the shrimp were steamed very well and were easy to peel, seasoning was plentiful and very tasty. The calamari had no seasoning but the sauce made up for it some. I can say that it was cooked pretty well, not tough at all. The clams were about the same... Overall, a pretty good meal given the price. I'd like to venture back and try out some of their crab items. So yeah in the end, a pretty good experience that I'd definitely suggest others to check out if they're looking for a new spot and quick seafood fix. read more

I called in a to-go order for 2 orders of potatoes, which is $5, and a side of cajun garlic butter. A side of cajun garlic butter 12oz used to be $10. Now they say they have a new system. In the new system the potatoes are $5 but the side of sauce is now $20. They claim the sauce on the side is sold separate not together like it is in the bag. So the garlic butter is $10 and the cajun sauce is $10. Remind you it used to be $10. They tried to charge me $26 for 2 orders of potatoes and a side of sauce. No no I won't be back. Juicy Crab has been around for a while and I finally got a chance to try it out the other day. I was on a double date with hubs and another couple and we went in around 7. We were told that the wait for a table of 4 would be around 20 minutes but it was actually just a 5 minute wait. Not bad! The interior seems small and it was packed when we walked in that Thursday evening. It does get loud so when you order, speak loudly and clearly so that the waitress can hear you. My husband didn't speak loudly or clearly so he didn't really get what he ordered (that was his own fault). The menu is simple and self explanatory and it's double sided; one side contains the lunch menu and the other side contains the dinner menu. What I like the most about Juicy Crab is the level of customization. You can get a ton of variety of seafood in one bag! You also get to choose the spice level as well as the sauce flavor. I got the juicy crab special sauce (I think that's what it's was) and a medium level of spiciness. The seafood was good but the sauce was just ok and the bucket for the shells and whatnot was pretty small; it's also lined with a plastic bag. I thought they would've given us 2 buckets but they only gave us 1 and the waitress took it away to empty it before bringing it back with a new plastic bag. Service was good; nothing to complain about but nothing outstanding either. I can see why people like Juicy Crab. The customization is probably my favorite part of the restaurant. The staff is wonderful, the decor is unique, and the food is just out of this world. Juicy crab offers fried foods and Cajun boiled seafood which you choose your own sauces, the most used sauce would be the juicy special and you can choose how spicy. Before the seafood comes out they give u a bucket, a bib, and gloves so you don't get all messy all over yourself. The boiled food comes out in a plastic bag and on a little pan. I usually dump the seafood on the pan for easier access, but usually it stay warm if kept in the bag. I love this place and will keep coming back. read more

I've only been here once but I have to say this place is hopping! Everyone and their mom comes here But in all honestly, their niche is slowly dying down because they have so much more competition within a 5 mile radius. The food is good, timeliness is good, I would just put a little more emphasis on customer service for people waiting. Meaning, a little more attention to patrons that are waiting such as more seating area, perhaps more benches out front, etc. Pricing is a little high for the portions compared to some local competition. It was very packed & the head hostess was picking favorites of who to seat first instead of going with the list. We were waiting for an hour or so with our friends and there were 7 of us including our babies. She sat these 2 people before us in a big booth before us when we had been waiting for almost an hour. Every time I'm in this parking lot this place is jamming so we finally tried it out. We had calamari, Cajun fries and hush puppies. All fried and sent out in baskets. Quality of the food itself was great and plentiful. Prices were nice too. Knocked two stars off for: Hostess was a hair rude (maybe due to her staying busy), decor was typical for a grease trap and looking a bit dirty. I was surprised that their dipping sauce game was so terrible given how delicious the calamari was. If you don't want tarter sauce or a cold (and when asked to heat it they said there isn't a way, lol!) ketchupie marinara then you better bring your own. Simply walk up to the both and get on the list. Get your # and wait- don't wander off too far. Our waitress seated us at a clean booth and was not only helpful but attentive. It was my first time there so she answers all of my questions. Food: I'm from a coastal town, so I know my seafood. Although I've heard great reviews about their fried foods, I prefer boiled. You can make-your-own-bag and choose your sauce. I chose a 1/2lb of snow crab (blue crab is seasonal), 1/2lb of black mussels and 1/2lb of HEAD ON shrimp (head off costs a little more and I didn't mind doing the work). It comes with a red potato and corn, all in the bag. I chose the JUICY SPECIAL sauce...then choose your level of heat- I chose medium and it was a kick indeed. -Gloves, bibs, and crackers (easier to break with you hands) are brought to the table. -They have a decent wine and beer selection. I had a corona with lime and called it a day. -NO kids menu, but you can order chicken wings, and fries here as well, which worked great for my friend's little one. Pricing: VERY reasonable. This seafood is fresh and comes in from Savannah, I believe (just ask and they'll tell you). You're getting your money's worth, and as a person who comes from a beach town, it's the best I've had in Atlanta aside from Lure in Midtown. You can make your self a $20 bag here and keep it moving. Atmosphere: This is a NOT a hole in the wall (which is where I usually find the best food sometimes). The restaurant had a nice ambience, great lighting, great fixtures, roomy seating, etc. You could take your family here for a nice dinner, birthday/anniversary, or out with the girls if you don't mind getting your bibs in formation, but don't feel like you have to dress up or anything (unless you're hosting something special). Just good ole' folk here enjoying the eats. *I did see large groups here so they can accommodate you. Overall- this place is SO good.
